Chapter Nine: Pieces of Me -Part Two
Friday of the same week...
Alison sat in front of her antique vanity applying her makeup. The blonde was getting ready for the party at Noel Kahn's that evening. Her hair was already in perfect curls, and her nails were painted a perfect red. Alison finished up the final touches of her makeup before she decided what to wear. She walked over to her closet, and casually started flicking through her shirts that were hung up neatly. Her eyes lingered on a blue top. It was the shirt she wore when she went to Emily's swim meet last Friday. Alison tried calling her friend on Wednesday after their heated conversation at work the night before. Emily didn't pick up. The two texted back and forth over the course of the last three days, but it was nothing but "Hey how are you's" and "I'm good how are you's" and "What's up's" and "Nothing much's." Alison wanted to hang out last night, but Emily said she was putting in extra hours at the pool. Due to her injuries from her run in with Bradley, Emily was behind for the swim meet tomorrow. The blonde regretted her choice of words that she spoke to Emily, but she couldn't take them back. Alison wished they could move forward, yet she could tell her friend was being distant. Not that Alison blamed her. In a way, the blonde was thankful to keep some distance for now. Emily still scared her, confused her, and challenged her. Alison was thrown through a loop with the way Emily talked to her that night. She didn't expect her friend to be so...confident, and just like their conversation in the brunette's bedroom, Alison panicked and used her words as a weapon. She used her words as a way to escape the situation. She used them as a way to mask her true feelings. Despite that fact, Alison still felt like the brunette could see through her lies. Emily was more than what just met the eye, and the blonde wasn't used to feeling out of control in conversations with people. Normally, Alison was the one who started conversations, led them, and ended them. That wasn't the case with Emily. The brunette comes off as timid and shy, but she has a whole other layer hidden underneath. Alison wasn't just scared of the unpredictability of Emily, but she was still scared of how the swimmer makes her feel. Over the years, Alison had wielded and mastered her emotions. She has been able to chose when to feel. Which in reality, had numbed her. Controlling her emotions and her words, Alison could get what she wanted when she wanted it. She could cut someone down, get her daddy's approval, collect friends, and scare even her own teachers into submission. Alison could feel herself beginning to morph and change whenever she was in the brunette's presence. The blonde kept up her persona as well as she could, but Emily softened her. Whenever Alison would feel vulnerability with anyone else, she could naturally switch off her true feelings. She could mask the real parts of herself. Being around Emily, Alison lost all control of herself. The scariest part was, Alison liked it. She liked the way Emily could pull a laugh out of her and make her feel comfortable. Time and worries disappeared whenever Emily was around. She felt alive. It was unnatural to the blonde, and it terrified and excited her all at the same time. A glass breaking from downstairs snapped her out of her thoughts. Mom's probably on her fifth round by now. Alison chose a tight-fitting red dress with black heels. It highlighted her body in all of the best ways from her boobs to her ass. She looked good, and she knew it. Oh yeah, she thought while looking at herself in the mirror, Bradley will love this. I bet Emily would too. Alison reached for her phone and went to call Emily. Maybe she'll pick up this time. The phone rang a few times until, to her surprise, Emily picked up. "Hello?" "Hey Em it's me" "Hi Alison, what's up?" Still? No Ali? Just Alison? "Just getting ready for the party tonight, how about you?" Alison could hear girls laughing in the background. Who is that? "I'm just getting done with swim practice" "Oh gotcha. Well I was wondering if you changed your mind about coming to the party tonight?" Alison heard Emily say goodbyes to her teammates. "Sorry, what did you say?" "I asked if you changed your mind about coming to the party tonight" "Oh yeah I forgot about that" Really? You forgot? "Well are you busy? Want to come?" "Probably not, my moms been awful this week and I have the big meet tomorrow" "Oh okay. Well I just thought I would ask...I've missed you" "Sorry Alison I need to go. My mom is calling on the other line. But hey enjoy the party with Bradley. Bye!" What the actual fuck. She didn't even seem interested to talk to me. She didn't even give me a chance to say bye. She didn't even sound upset. Not that I want her to still be upset, but any kind of emotion from her would've been better than that. Alison's phone buzzed. Maybe it's her. A text from Hanna: "Hey bitch you ready to get your party on? Noel said you, me, and Bradley can go over early to pre-game. Want me to come pick you up?" Alison typed back: "Hell yeah I am! Sure! I'm already ready to go." I'm so getting plastered tonight.
Music was blaring and people were dancing. The house party was in full swing. "Aliiiiiii," Hanna yelled at her friend over the music, slurring, "Come take anotherrrr shot with me." Alison was dancing on Bradley in the living room. "Hanna I think you've had enough," she yelled back. Alison herself already had plenty to drink over the course of the night too, but she wasn't as far gone as her friend. "Bitch don't be fucking boring!" Hanna grabbed Alison's hand, pulling her away from Bradley. Alison didn't mind though. He was starting to get a little too handsy on the dance floor. The two stumbled into the kitchen, leaning on each other, and giggling. "So, tell meeeee," Hanna said leaning against the counter for balance, "Are you and Bradley going to do it? I've seen him touching you all night!" Alison rolled her eyes, "Not a chance. He's so drunk. He wouldn't even know what to do with this body if he was sober!" Hanna snatched a bottle of Vodka from the counter and began messily pouring them shots. "Hey if it's bad, this'll help you forget," Hanna joked while handing Alison a shot glass. "Plus Caleb isn't here Hanna, there's no way I'm leaving you alone," Alison replied, still coherent enough to make somewhat good decisions. "Aria Montgomery is here. She's cool! I can just go chill with her while you two get it on," Hanna said suggestively, wiggling her eyebrows. Alison downed the shot of Vodka in one swift motion. She grimaced, partly because of the alcohol and partly because of the thought of having sex with Bradley. Hanna downed hers as well. Hanna grinned, looking behind her friend. Alison turned around to see what she was grinning at. Bradley was walking up to her. "Hey babe," he said, slurring his words as well, "Wanna go up to a room?" Hanna squealed and Alison glared at her. Hanna nodded her head enthusiastically, silently telling her friend to go. I can't seem like I'm nervous. She doesn't know I'm still a virgin. Alison put on her best fake smile, grabbed Bradley's arm, and started walking out of the kitchen. She turned back to Hanna. "Stay with Aria!" Hanna nodded before giving her a drunken wink. Alison and Bradley made their way up the stairs. They found an open room and as soon as Alison walked through the doorway, Bradley forcibly grabbed her arms and pinned Alison up against the door. Her back slamming into the door made her groan. It hurt. Bradley took her groan as a sign of pleasure, not pain. Emily didn't push me like that up against the door. He instantly began kissing her. The aggressiveness of his actions threw Alison off guard. God do I really want to do this? Am I ready for this? Do I want to lose my virginity to him? Her thoughts were cut off by Bradley breaking up their lips, and starting to kiss down her neck. The pleasure Alison felt the last time someone's lips were on her neck, was nonexistent with Bradley. Why did it feel so good with Emily? Alison pushed up on his chin and directed him back to her face. He grinned before connecting their lips. This time Alison was the aggressor, slamming her lips into his. I need to get her off of my mind. He moaned in response. Why am I not feeling turned on? When Emily moaned, her sounds went directly down in between my legs. Her breath caught in her throat in surprise from Bradley grabbing her hips and picking her up off of the ground. Alison reached down and tugged off his shirt, and connected their mouths again. Alison ran her hands over his bare shoulders, searching for a feeling...any type of feeling like she felt before with Emily. What's wrong with me? I'm thinking about a girl when a hot guy is wanting me. Why isn't she out of my head? Alison felt his rough hands grip her ass as he swung her around. Alison felt bile in the back of her throat at the realization of what he was doing. Bradley tossed her onto the bed. He smirked at her and began unbuttoning his pants. I can't do this. I can't. Everything about this feels wrong. Alison jumped up from the bed. "I'm sorry Bradley I cant do this. I'm getting really nauseous from the drinks. I think I'm going to throw up," she lied. "Oh shit really? Do you need help throwing up?" He asked with concern. At least he's not a complete douche. At least he won't force me to do something. "No I'm fine. I'm actually going to go okay? I'm sorry," Alison replied and began hurriedly walking out of the room, not giving him a change to respond. The blonde ran down the stairs and began her search for Hanna. She found her friend sloshed on the couch beside Aria, talking about Caleb. "Hanna I'm leaving," Alison interrupted her speech about how perfect Caleb's abs are. "Why? We're just getting starteddd," Hanna drunkingly asked, clearly not seeing the tears in Alison's eyes. "My mom is giving me the third degree. She said if I don't come home I'll be grounded," she lied while blinking the tears away, "So I'm going to go. Will you be fine with Aria?" Hanna burped and giggled. Alison, knowing her friend was trashed, turned to Aria and raised her eyebrows in question. Aria knew what Alison was silently asking. "I'll make sure she gets home safe," Aria said. "Thanks," Alison replied and hurriedly exited the house. As soon as her heels hit the pavement, she took off running. She didn't stop the tears now. She had one destination in mind: Emily.
Alison reached the sidewalk in front the Fields' residence. The drunken blonde instantly realized that she didn't think her actions through. It was already eleven o'clock, and there was no way she was going to ring on their doorbell. Aside from the time, Alison figured she reeked of booze. So facing Mr. or Mrs. Fields right now was not an option. Alison grabbed her phone and called Emily. Please pick up. Please. I need to see you. Her phone rang almost five times, but to her relief, Emily answered. "Hello?" "Hey it's me" "Alison? I thought you were going to that party tonight" "I left" "Oh okay. Well what's up?" "I'm actually outside of your house" "Right now? Why?" "I just got bored. I was supposed to stay the night at Hanna's, but she was still partying. Can I stay here tonight? Please?" Please say yes. "Ummm sure. Go around to the back door. My parents are asleep but they might here us if you come through the front" "Okay I'll be there" "Give me a second and I'll meet you there." Alison crept around the outside of the Fields' house until she reached the back door. Emily was already there and holding the door open for her. The brunette immediately noticed Alison's disheveled look. "Ali, are you okay?" She asked in a hushed, concerned voice. Hearing Emily say 'Ali' for the first time in awhile made her smile. "I'm okay," Alison said, but her tone of voice said otherwise. The brunette didn't question Alison, instead she pulled her gently into a hug. She feels like home. "Thank you for letting me stay with you," Alison whispered into her ear. Emily pulled away from their embrace, "Of course," she replied while eyeing the blonde. Can she tell I've been crying? When she looks at me I swear she can read my mind. "Come on, let's go up to my room," Emily said quietly. The two girls tiptoed through the house until they reached Emily's bedroom. As Alison walked inside her friend's room, she was hit with a wave of remembrance. Emily shut her bedroom door behind them. "So," Emily spoke first, "Do you need anything? Water? Snacks? Shower?" Alison turned to her friend, and saw her fiddling with her fingers. She's nervous. She's also so sweet. "I might take you up on that shower," Alison replied, "Pretty sure I smell like Absolut vodka." Emily nodded her head slightly. "Sure, let me grab you a towel," Emily said while walking over to her closet. The swimmer retrieved a towel and handed it over to her guest. Their fingers brushed when Alison grabbed it from her. Both girls made eye contact with each other, remembering the last time they exchanged a towel. Are we both thinking about the same thing? Emily stepped back, "You know where everything is?" She asked. Alison nodded. Yeah. I know. Alison turned to walk out of the room, but looked back towards Emily who was leaning against her bed frame. Say something. "Oh! Sorry I totally forgot," Emily spoke before the blonde could, "Let me get you some clothes." The brunette went over to her dresser and started picking sleepwear out for her guest. "Do you want pajama pants or shorts?" Emily offered Alison the choice by holding up the two items of clothing. "Shorts," Alison replied, choosing the latter. Alison watched Emily dig through another drawer. "Here," the brunette handed Alison an old blue Rosewood Sharks t shirt. "There's also new toothbrushes in the second to bottom drawer under the sink if you need it," Emily offered kindly. "Thanks Em. I know that you weren't planning on having me stay," Alison said from the doorway. "It's no problem," Emily responded. "I know that...I know that our last conversation wasn't-" Emily cut off Alison, "Don't worry about it. Like I said it's already forgotten," Emily repeated the words she said that night, but this time the words came out kinder, more sincere. Emily wasn't looking at the blonde when she responded. The brunette was looking through her drawers. Alison assumed she was picking out her own sleepwear, but she knew Emily was doing it to avoid eye contact. "I-I realized I didn't say sorry," Alison reached out and put her hand over Emily's that we're reaching for a t shirt in a drawer, getting the brunette to look at her. Please know I'm sorry. I know I hurt you. Please look at me. Emily looked at the pale, dainty fingers on her hand. The swimmer pulled her hand away and finally made eye contact with Alison. "There's nothing you need to be sorry for Alison," Emily answered. I can hear the hurt and sadness in your voice. "Emily-" "I'm going to go get some water," Emily said suddenly and walked past Alison out of the room. Great. The one time I've tried to apologize in my life and I failed miserably. Alison sighed and made her way across the hall into the familiar bathroom. Once she closed the door, she inhaled a deep breath. She moved her hand from the doorknob and ran her fingers across the door, reminiscing on what happened between her and Emily. The blonde closed her eyes and thought about their intimate moment they shared. Being in that bathroom again, catapulted her right back to that afternoon. Alison could almost feel Emily's lips on hers, the feeling of the brunette's bare skin on her hands, and the way her own body felt from the touches and noises Emily made. Snap out of it. The blonde took another deep breath and went to turn on the water. She showered with a purpose. I want him off of me. I want his smell off of me. I want it all gone. Alison stepped out of the tub, dried off, and went to put on her borrowed clothes. As she tugged on Emily's t shirt, the smell of her friend engulfed her. Alison grabbed the shirt and placed it onto her nose, inhaling the scent of Emily. Even her smell is perfect. Alison finished dressing, brushed her teeth, and quietly walked back into Emily's bedroom. Emily had changed into a loose fitting old tank top with athletic shorts. Wow. "Oh hey," Emily greeted, "I didn't hear you come in. How was your shower?" Alison smiled, "It was nice, thank you." Emily nodded and gave the blonde a tight-lipped smile. Why is this so awkward? She says there's nothing I need to be sorry for, but she's acting so different. I know I hurt her. Emily walked over to her closet and brought down blankets. "I'll make a pallet on the floor and you can have the bed," She said while laying the blankets on the ground. "Can I...can we just sleep in your bed?" Alison asked. This doesn't need to be awkward. I don't want you to avoid me. Emily's eyes opened a little wider from the suggestion of Alison. "Oh. Y-yeah that's fine," Emily replied while biting her lip. Alison glanced over to Emily's nightstand. The brunette had water, ibuprofen, and crackers laid out for her guest. She's so sweet. Emily hadn't moved from her position in the room after Alison asked if they could sleep together. "So, what side?" Alison inquired. Emily looked confused. "What?" Alison giggled at her and sat down on the bed. "What side do you sleep on?" Emily blushed, clearly nervous. "I kinda just sleep in the middle," she replied quietly, walking over to the opposite side of the bed that Alison was sitting on. Alison pulled back the duvet cover and glided into the brunette's sheets. She patted the empty spot beside her, instructing Emily to get in. Emily slowly slid inside the bedsheets beside her. Their bare legs brushed against each others when Emily got in. The brunette inched over to the edge of the bed, putting space between them. "Do you need anything else?" Emily asked softly. "No I'm good Em, thanks," Alison replied before leaning over and taking a swig of the water her friend got for her. Emily leaned over to her other nightstand and turned off the lamp that was casting a soft light on the bedroom. Alison watched Emily flip onto on her side, with her back facing the blonde. Alison settled more into the sheets, facing the brunette. She debated on cuddling up to her. Should I? Maybe I shouldn't...she's obviously putting as much space in between us that she possibly can. I want to touch her though. I know I shouldn't. I'm still drunk and my head is still spinning. Will it confuse her even more? Will it confuse me even more? If I do, will she say something? Will she push me away? I want to feel her body. I miss her warm skin. Maybe if I do, she'll know that I'm not mad about our kiss. Maybe it'll make things go back to normal. Maybe it'll show her I don't mind if we touch. Friends cuddle all the time. There's nothing weird about it...right? Alison slowly scooted her body across the bed, closing the space between their bodies. Alison pressed her front up into Emily's backside. She could hear the brunette inhale from the touch. I love hearing that sound. I love hearing her react to me. Maybe I should make sure this is okay. "Is this okay?" Alison asked quietly, almost inaudible. She heard the brunette release and take in another deep breath. "Yeah," Emily replied just as quietly. Good. Alison moved her arm under the sheets and slid it across the brunette's midsection, her hand resting on Emily's stomach. She could feel the brunette's muscles twitch from the light touch. Am I tickling her? Alison pressed her hand more firmly onto Emily's stomach so her fingers wouldn't tickle her stomach. She couldn't be sure, but Alison thought she heard a moan breathed out from Emily's lips. The sound from her went straight down between Alison's legs. The blonde felt the familiar tightness in her stomach. Suddenly, Alison was hyper aware of her torso that was pressed closely up against Emily's ass. How can this turn me on and I felt nothing with Bradley? Maybe I shouldn't be doing this. Maybe this was a mistake. I couldn't even kiss the guy without thinking about her. Alison slide her backside back a few inches so that the bottom halves of their bodies weren't touching anymore. She still kept her hand over Emily's stomach though. Alison's eyes were looking over Emily's shoulders and forearms. The glow from the moon casted enough light for her to see Emily's skin. She's so beautiful. It feels nice being close to her like this. It feels comfortable. Her brunette hair was splayed out onto the pillow, exposing part of her face and the back of her neck. I want to run my hands through her hair. I want to run my fingers over her cheeks...but I can't. I can't ever touch her like that again. I shouldn't want to touch her again. This right here is the most I will ever get. Thanks to me, I ruined it. Whatever it was. I knew I shouldn't have said those things to her. I regret them. Funny thing is, I didn't regret our hookup. I haven't regretted it once. My head was telling me it was wrong, but every fiber of my being was telling me it was right. My body, my heart, my soul. It all felt so right. I felt dirty after I said those things to her, but I didn't feel dirty when I was kissing her. I didn't even feel dirty when I was thinking about her when I was kissing Bradley. I felt guilty, but not dirty. It's all so confusing. At least that's what I'm telling myself...that I'm confused. When I'm with her, I'm not confused. Touching her right now isn't confusing. It feels right. It feels normal. It feels intimate and comfortable. Like coming home. I've never felt that feeling in my own home. It's really just a house, not a home. I feel safe when I'm with her. It feels like I found the place I was always meant to be. I've heard people say you can find soulmates in your friends. That a soulmate doesn't have to be your romantic partner. Maybe that's what she is. My platonic soulmate. They say your soulmate is supposed to be your best friend. Maybe that hookup with her was just a fluke. Maybe she's just someone I always have meant to know. I found my platonic soulmate and I just confused it. That's why I've been so drawn to her. That would make so much sense as to why I've felt these feelings for her. I'm not gay. I've never once thought about another girl in the ways I've thought about her. This is a revelation. This fixes everything I've been struggling with. It's been a battle between my head and my heart. Now I don't need to overthink this anymore. Maybe I need to give it another try with Bradley. I'm not broken or weird. It only makes sense that I thought of Emily while kissing him. I've only ever kissed her aside from Bradley. I was just comparing them. I totally freaked out at the party, but maybe I was too drunk. Alison heard Emily's breathing deepen. She must have fallen asleep. Alison moved her hand from Emily's stomach up over her breasts and laid her hand directly onto her heart. She felt the slow, rhythmic beating of the heart of the girl she loved. I love her. I think I've known that for awhile, but it's okay to admit that to myself now. It's not weird or gay of me to feel love for her. She knew Emily was asleep, but she whispered "I love you" to the brunette before drifting off into a dream state.
Alison woke up with a searing headache. Oh god. I should've take that Ibuprofen Emily gave me before bed. Wait. Emily. Alison's eyes flipped open at the realization of where she slept last night. Her arm was flung over the empty side of the bed. Wait? Where is she? Alison sat up slowly and squinted as the light from Emily's bedroom window hit her in the face. "Oh god," she said out loud, grimacing. Just as she spoke, Emily walked into the room after her morning run. The brunette had on an athletic tank top, shorts, and running shoes. Emily laughed, clearly hearing the blonde's grumbling. "Feeling the hangover, huh?" She said smirking at the blonde in her bed. Alison's eyes raked over Emily's tone body that was covered in sweat. Damn. I do have a headache, but I don't mind waking up to that. She's gorgeous...in a friendly way of course. I've always told Hanna she's hot. It's not weird. Emily didn't see Alison checking her out because she was chugging water. "Ha ha ha. Is my pain amusing to you?" Alison asked the brunette, holding up her hand to shield her eyes from the sunlight. Emily giggled again, "Sorry," she apologized while still smirking. Brat. Alison grabbed a pillow from the bed and tossed it at Emily, intending for it to smack her in the face. Instead, Emily caught it gracefully thanks to her fast reflexes. "You can't be feeling that sick if you can throw a pillow at me," Emily said laughing at Alison's tactics. The effort from throwing the pillow caused nausea to hit her stomach. The blonde groaned and flopped back onto the bed. "I haven't had a hangover in forever. This sucks," she complained. "Well you didn't take the ibuprofen I had set out for you," Emily countered. "Sorry mom," Alison sassed back. Emily laughed in response, "At least the alcohol didn't ruin your sense of humor." Alison sat up slightly to look at Emily. She raised her eyebrow and rolled her eyes dramatically for the brunette to see. The two giggled from Alison's sassiness. They held a stare and smiled at each other. The awkwardness is gone. This is the Emily I missed. "Let me shower and change, and we can go for some coffee and breakfast," Emily offered. "That sounds heavenly right now," Alison said while grimacing, "If you can carry me there that would be even better." Emily laughed, "I'm strong but not that strong, sorry princess." Alison felt her cheeks heat up from Emily calling her princess. That was cute. "I prefer queen, but princess will do," Alison joked back. This is nice. This back and forth. It's finally normal now. "Oh my apologies your highness," Emily bent down, pretending to bow to Alison. Alison cackled watching Emily joke around with her, but her headache came back full force from laughing that hard. She reached over for the forgotten pills Emily left her last night and popped them into her mouth, swigging water. As she looked back toward Emily, the brunette was pulling her tank top off, leaving her in a sports bra. Alison's eyes travelled down Emily's abs, glistening with sweat. Damn she looks good. Emily bent down to untie her running shoes, and Alison quickly looked away before she stood back up. Emily walked over to her dresser and began shuffling through clothes, her back turned to Alison. Alison's eyes ran along Emily's back, and stopped at her ass. She's so hot. Hot in a friendly way of course. "Alright," Emily spoke and turned to the disheveled blonde in her bed, "Give me fifteen minutes tops and I'll be ready. Feel free to change into my clothes." Alison nodded, smiling at her friend. The blonde rolled over and reached for her phone, noticing she had received several messages. A text from Hanna: "Please tell me I'm not the only one who feels like complete ass. Also, did you get home okay?" Alison typed back: "Lol I don't feel great but I can only imagine how you feel, and yeah I did. You?" Alison then saw a text from Bradley: "Hey babe. How are you feeling? The rest of the party wasn't as fun without you." Ugh. I can't even think of dealing with that right now. Alison chose not to respond to him. She got up from the bed and walked over to Emily's closet. She found a yellow graphic tee that had a v-cut. She pulled it off of the hanger and sauntered over to the dresser. The blonde carefully looked through Emily's pants, trying not to ruffle the perfectly folded clothes. She found a simple pair of black leggings to pair with the yellow top. Alison began taking off the t shirt that she slept in. She was about to fold it and put it back in Emily's drawer, but she hesitated. Would she notice if I kept it? Would it be weird if I kept it? Hanna and I share clothes all the time. Against her better judgment, Alison rolled up the t shirt and stuffed it into her purse. Emily's t shirt. Our first sleepover: Emily's and Mine. Alison finished changing and grimaced once she saw her hair in the mirror. Oh god. I look rough. She decided to pull her hair up into a ponytail. At least my hair is still partially curled. Alison looked down at the dresser she was standing in front of. The blonde noticed the familiar item that she gifted to the brunette the night of her last swim meet: Pillow Thoughts Two. Alison sat onto the bed, clutching the book. I wonder if she has marked any pages like she did with her other one. Alison found the page that she herself marked before she gave the poetry book to Emily. She re-read it: "Being with her is like listening to a song I will always remember. It doesn't matter how times I listen to the song. I'll always remember the first time hearing it. It felt like the song knew me, and not who I pretended to be when the headphones weren't in. It felt like driving around late at night, and the song plays on the radio, and you just know it's a song that will change your life." Emily is like that for me. When she looks at me, she sees me. She sees me for who I really am. I don't have to pretend to be anybody else when I'm around her. I relate to this even more so than when I first read it. Alison noticed there was only one other page that wasn't marked by her. Her fingers flipped over to the page marked by Emily. Her eyes filled with tears while reading it: "I am a solar system with crashing comets and star clusters And in all my pieces she exists I can feel her so strongly it's like I'm not even me anymore Like all my pieces belong to her." Alison didn't even realize she was crying until a tear landed onto the page. All my pieces. Does Emily feel the same way that I do? I feel like I'm gathering pieces of her. Does she feel like I'm giving her pieces of me too? I've only known her for such a short time, but I feel like I've known her for forever. Maybe she's not giving me pieces of her, but maybe she's returning them to me. Maybe I had them once in another life. Maybe she had mine too. Maybe she really is my soulmate from another life. Maybe that's why I feel so at home with her. It's like we've met before. We've done this dance before. It's a remembrance. It's a reunion. Maybe she was my lover in a past life. Maybe that's why I've felt so...attracted to her. Maybe we were meant to be friends in this life. All of the pieces are finally coming together...Alison was so lost in thought that she didn't hear the shower water turn off a few minutes ago, but she heard Emily close the bathroom door across the hallway. She jumped up and put the book back to its original place. Like deja vu once again, she flopped onto the bed and tried to appear like she was casually looking through her phone. Emily walked in seconds later. Her friend was wearing a black crop top t shirt, jean shorts, and a flannel tied around her waist. "Hey," Emily greeted while running her eyes across Alison's borrowed outfit, "I'm glad you found something to wear. I know we don't really have the same style." Emily walked over to her closet to grab a pair of black converse. "Yeah I did. Thanks for letting me borrow your clothes," Alison replied. Emily finished lacing up her shoes. "No problem. So, you ready for your hangover cure," she teased her hungover friend. Alison got up from the bed and went over to Emily's closet, finding a pair of black flip flops. "Yes please. I feel like I'm dying," she responded dramatically. Alison met Emily's eyes that were watching her. Oh shit. I totally just took these sandals without asking. As if Emily could read her thoughts, "They look cute on you," she complimented kindly, letting the blonde know she didn't mind the intrusion of her space. "Now come on, let's go get the Queen some coffee and food," Emily teased. Alison's heart fluttered in her chest. God she needs to stop doing that. I feel like I'm falling...falling...no. I can't be. It's not that. It's definitely not that. You don't even know what falling in love is like. She's just your friend who you love. "You coming," Emily asked from the door. "Yeah, sorry," Alison responded and followed her friend out of the room.
Alison and Emily finished their coffee date at The Brew. The two girls chatted back and forth over the course of breakfast, but they mainly sat in comfortable silence while Alison shoved down her hangover food. To much protest, Emily paid for their coffee and breakfast. Alison was still arguing with Emily when they got back into the brunette's vehicle. "If you won't let me pay you back I'm going to take a vow of silence in protest," Alison challenged while buckling her seat belt. Emily snorted, "You? A vow of silence? There's a better chance of pigs flying than that happening," Emily bantered. Laughing, Alison lightly smacked Emily's arm in retaliation. "Wanna bet?" Alison asked playfully while raising her eyebrows. "I never take bets without knowing what I'm betting on," Emily replied. "Hmmmm," Alison pretended to be in deep contemplation putting her hand on chin. Emily started giggling, "What? Are you scared?" She asked, challenging the blonde. Alison whipped her eyes to Emily, "Okay. Winner gets to decide what we're doing for the rest of the day until your swim meet tonight." Emily stuck out her hand in agreement. The two shook hands. Emily realized she was the only one laughing during the exchange. Alison already went silent, smirking at her. Emily raised her eyebrows, "Oh wow. You're serious about this. Okay." Emily then began to make the silliest faces she knew trying desperately to get the blonde to the laugh. Alison had a smile graced on her face, but made no sounds. Emily sat back, and decided on another tactic. "Remember my first day of work? I forgot to turn off the ice cream machine and it went all over my hands," the brunette said, fully laughing, "Pretty sure my cheeks were beet red!" I remember. It was the cutest thing. Alison couldn't help herself and starting laughing. "Hah! You lost ma'am," Emily said triumphantly at Alison who was still laughing. "Alright alright miss competitive you won. So what are we doing for the rest of the day?" Emily looked out the window, thinking. Alison grinned like a little kid watching her. She makes me feel so giddy. I wouldn't even care what we did as long as I get to spend the day with her. "Okay, got it," Emily eventually spoke up and started to put her car in drive. "So where are you taking me?" Alison asked, intrigued. Emily glanced over to her passenger, "Just wait for it," Emily repeated the same words Alison told her when she took her out to the kissing rock. The brunette winked at her. Did she just wink at me? She's never done that before. Alison pestered Emily the whole drive as to where exactly the brunette was taking her, but Emily just laughed and kept her lips closed. After 20 minutes, the brunette pulled off down a dirt road in a wooded area. "Okay now I'm the one who might be getting murdered in the woods," Alison teased from the passenger seat, "Are you still not going to tell me?" She asked in a whiny voice, making a pouty face at Emily. "We're here your highness," Emily teased back and put the car in park. Alison looked around outside, only seeing trees and more trees. "Is this the part where I need to run?" Alison inquired playfully. Emily gave the blonde a look, "Come on," she simply said in response while getting out of the car. Alison followed suit and watched the brunette open her trunk, pulling out a picnic blanket. "I'm not sitting in dirt in the woods Em, sorry," the blonde sassed while putting her hands on her hips. Emily laughed while shaking her head at the blonde's comment. "Follow me," she directed while walking away from Alison. Where is she taking me? Alison reluctantly followed the brunette a few yards down the dirt road. "Emily I'm wearing flip flops. You better not be taking me for a hike," the blonde complained once again. Emily surprisingly veered off into the woods through some branches. Alison followed, "Emily twigs are getting in my hair. I don't wa-" the blonde's voice trailed off when she realized the small opening in the tress led to a path leading down to a lake. Emily turned around and took a few steps back until she was a foot away from Alison. What is she doing? "Here," Emily reached up and gently pulled a twig out of Alison's ponytail. She reached out her hand for the blonde to take, "Come on," she said softly. Alison interlaced their fingers, feeling her heart skip a beat. The two walked down the path until they reached the shoreline of the lake. Alison audibly gasped once she could fully see the view. She let go of Emily's hand and walked around, taking in the scenery. "It's beautiful Em," she muttered in awe. Emily walked out onto the dock with Alison in tow. The swimmer laid the blanket down for them to sit on. "See, no sitting on dirt in the woods," she joked. Emily sat down and dangled her feet off of the dock. Alison mirrored the brunette, looking out to the glistening water. It looks like diamonds are floating on the waves. "You're full of surprises, you know?" Alison said softly, turning her head to Emily. "Am I?" The brunette asked, looking at the blonde beside her. "Yeah, you keep surprising me," Alison replied softly, not explaining her comment any further. Emily turned her eyes back out to the water, "Well good. Some of the best things in life come as surprises." Yeah they do. You're one of them. Emily continued, "My dad brought me out here for the first time my Freshman year before he left for a year long deployment. I would come out here every Saturday and sit here on this dock while he was gone," Emily shared while Alison kept her eyes on her, "Being here felt like I was with him in a way." Tell me more. I want to know everything there is to know about you. "Have you brought anyone else out here?" Alison questioned curiously. Emily kept her eyes on the view, "Nope. Just you," she admitted quietly. "Well I'm honored," Alison said sincerely. Emily finally made eye contact with her, "You're special Ali. I know I've only known you for like two weeks, but you're my best friend." You're mine too Em. You're more than my best friend. You encompass more than a best friend. Alison smiled, "You're mine too Em," she admitted, "I feel like I've known you my whole life and then some." The two held a gaze that only lasted seconds. Emily focused her eyes back on the view. Shit did I say too much? Emily bumped her elbow into Alison's side, lightly pushing her. Alison whipped her eyes to the swimmer in surprise. Emily was smiling while still looking out at the water. She pushed me on purpose. Alison grinned and shoved her elbow gently into Emily's side, repeating the same gesture. Emily side-eyed her, grinning, until they both started laughing. When their laughter was dying down, Alison naturally laid her head on the taller girls' shoulder. The two sat in comfortable silence on the dock. After a minute or two passed, Emily laid her head on top of Alison's. I love you. Alison's thoughts came out in a physical form. "I love you," she whispered softly enough for only Emily and her to hear. She bit her lip in nervousness, keeping her head laid across Emily's shoulder, unable to look her in the eye. I want you to know that I love you. "I love you too Ali," Emily responded just as quietly. They both sat in silence for a few more minutes. "How have things been with your mom and dad?" Alison asked out of the blue, keeping her head rested on her friend. "It's been weird honestly. My mom still hasn't talked to me about it since I came out. It's almost like she's avoiding talking about it. She's trying to act like everything is normal, but she looks at me differently," Emily answered, still keeping her head rested on her friend's head too. "Different how?" Alison asked curiously. "She looks at me like I'm a whole new person. Like I'm not her daughter that I have always been," Emily replied with sadness in her voice, "It almost seems like she's grieving me. As if the daughter she had died and a new one woke up in her house the next day. I've caught her crying in the kitchen pantry a few times this week." Alison reached out her hand that was closest to Emily and grabbed the brunette's hand, gripping it tightly. "You're still the same Emily. I know she doesn't understand, but don't let her actions manipulate you into thinking otherwise. It'll get easier with time. I'm so proud of you, Emily," Alison consoled her friend. "Thanks Ali," the brunette replied and then lifted her head to ask, "Ali, what happened last night? I didn't want to ask after you came over, but are you okay? Did something bad happen?" Alison tensed up, and moved her head off of Emily's shoulder. I can't tell her why. "Nothing bad happened. I was just drunk and wanted to get out of there," the blonde lied. Emily stared at her for a moment and then started smirking at her knowingly. Alison lifted an eyebrow at her, "What?" Emily cleared her throat and turned her head back to the water, still smirking. Alison lightly shoved the swimmer again. "Why are you smiling?" Alison questioned. "Nothing," Emily answered with a shit-eating grin on her face. Emily looked back at Alison. The blonde had her eyes squinting at her and was faking a mean look, annoyed that Emily wouldn't explain. Emily giggled, "I can tell when you're lying is all," she explained. Alison feigned a look of shock. "Shut up! No you can't!" Alison glared at her friend. Emily started laughing uncontrollably from the face Alison made. Emily's laughing was cut off in surprise from water getting splashed onto her. This time Emily was the one who was shocked. Alison grinned devilishly at her. "Oh no you didn't!" Emily shouted while leaning down to scoop up lake water to splash the blonde back. Alison swooped down and grabbed the brunette's wrist, squealing and laughing, "Emily no! Please no!" Emily relented and let Alison get her way, giving up on getting her back. The two girls were laughing at their antics until another comfortable silence settled over them. The blonde stole a look at her friend after Emily turned her vision back to the scenery. The lake: Emily's and Mine.
We love a little Emison fluff, even if it's friendly fluff ;) Looks like their friendship is back on track. How long do you think it'll last? If you're enjoying it (or hating it lol) leave some reviews! It's nice to hear feedback. See you next time. ~3mison
