Chapter 27
Vox watched as Magic and Angel danced in the newest music video that was being livestreamed in the studio. Angel lifted Magic over his head like a ballerina and she kept her form perfectly, trusting her brother to not let her fall. Angel then kneeled and moved his arms as if guiding Magic downwards, to which she placed her hands on his right outward bent knee and did a front walk over, going into a split before reaching her hands up and back as if to grab something.
Angel grasped her hands and leaned forward, kicking a back leg up and once he was perfectly balanced over his sister's head, he did a split too. After a few seconds, Angel leaned forward as if to get up, but as he did, he pulled Magic up with him too and they repeated what they had just done, only this time with Magic being held up by her brother.
After a few seconds, he lowered her and she curled her legs in, tucking herself into a ball as all four of her brother's arms came around her and he swung his legs smoothly towards himself so that he was sitting down cross-legged and holding Magic as he rested his head on her own head as if protecting her from something. As the light faded, the music ended softly until all was quiet.
Vox smiled and stopped the livestream, posting it and seeing the reviews come in that the viewers thought the duo were wonderful and how well they were in sync. He turned on the main lights and went up to them as Magic and Angel got up, their eyes squinting as they got used to the bright lights again. "How did we do?" Angel asked.
"The reviews are positive once again," Vox said, smiling.
Ozzy and Fizz came up to them. "That was very good," the rooster-like being said.
"Hey, there's a spot open for an act for Friday night. I haven't found someone to fill it yet," Fizz said. "Think you guys would be up to doing that routine?"
"Yes," Magic signed, smiling.
"Sure," Angel said, smiling too. "As long as it's in a cage and no one but you guys can get in."
Ozzy nodded. There had been an incident at the club a while back when Magic and Angel had been performing and one patron tried grabbing Magic while she was dancing with Angel. The patron had managed to grab Magic's ankle and trip her, making her stumble and nearly fall off the stage. Angel had quickly caught his sister, but then saw the crowd of hands reaching up to them to try and grab them.
Ozzy had appeared on the stage in flames, angry. The patrons trying to grab the brother and sister scattered, but security found them and kicked them out, Ozzy giving the guards instructions to never let that group in again.
The ordeal had shaken Magic and Angel, both debating on telling Ozzy to remove them as acts for the club when Fizz suggested that they could do some acts in one of the cages or even on the highwire where no one could try to grab them. Magic had agreed to it as long as Fizz, Ozzy, and Vox were the only ones that could open the cage from the outside.
Angel backed her up on that and Ozzy at once agreed, but told them that if they didn't want to be put on the roster of acts for the night when Fizz was making the schedule, then just to let him know. The siblings nodded gratefully and Magic hugged Ozzy, who picked her up and comforted her.
Vox had been furious when he found out what had happened at the club and he asked Ozzy about having a camera at the door to scan the patrons coming in and perhaps enforcing the rules a bit more strongly. The rooster-like being had suggested instead that security warn patrons of the rules before they entered. Vox eventually agreed to that as long as when Magic was on stage, he could watch her from the balcony.
Fizz had teased the television being about being protective about Magic, but the dancer had asked Ozzy if Vox could indeed be there when she and Angel were on the list of acts and he agreed, though jokingly told her to make sure Vox couldn't keep his eyes off her.
Magic blushed at that while Vox sputtered in embarrassment. Angel and Fizz howled with laughter at Ozzy's joke. Thankfully, with the patrons being warned of the rules, a large cage put in place to keep the siblings safe while doing their act, and Vox watching from the balcony with Ozzy and Fizz, there had been no other mishaps.
Magic now hugged Vox and took his hands, pulling him onto the dance floor in the room. "Dance with me?" She signed to him, smiling.
Vox bit his lip, looking regretful. "I'm sorry, Magic, but I've got two left feet," he said gently. "I wouldn't be a good dance partner."
"That's okay. I don't mind," she signed, hugging him.
He gently shook his head before giving her a kiss. "Sorry, my sweet dancer," he said, gently pulling away and going back to his computer, no one seeing the sad face he made at the fact that he couldn't dance with Magic, though he wanted to.
However, Ozzy could feel the sadness radiating off of Vox and he turned to Magic, who looked sad, but nodded her head, indicating she accepted Vox's answer. He kneeled down and placed a hand on her shoulder. "Hey," he said, making her look at him. "You okay?"
"Yes. I guess I just got really happy at the thought of dancing with Vox, but if he doesn't want to or can't, I'm not going to push him to do so," she said, her hands moving with the words.
He smiled at her and then looked at Vox thoughtfully. Fizz saw the look on the larger being's face and smiled, knowing exactly what he was thinking.
The next day, Vox was in the kitchen drinking coffee at the table and holding his head. He was upset at himself for making Magic sad by refusing to dance with her. While he had been truthful about not being a good dancer, there was another reason, one he didn't like to think about, but it now replayed in his mind.
Another woman he had liked and dated had roped him into dancing with her and because he hadn't had any practice dancing with a partner, he kept making mistakes and she had yelled at him. One day, she broke up with him, saying no woman cares for a man who couldn't dance.
He now felt afraid. What if Magic decided to break up with him? Tears filled his eyes because he was scared that the past would repeat itself. He was so distraught and lost in his head that he didn't hear Ozzy come into the kitchen, but felt a large, warm hand wrap gently around his shoulders. "Vox, are you alright?" Ozzy asked him.
The television being looked up at the larger being, tears still running down his face. Ozzy grew concerned. "What happened? Did you and Magic have a disagreement?" He asked gently, noticing Magic wasn't there at the moment.
"No," Vox said, biting his lip.
Magic came in right then and when she saw Vox looking upset, she grew concerned and went up to Ozzy, who turned as she approached. "What happened?" She signed.
"I found him like this," the rooster-like being said.
Magic came closer and Ozzy moved back as the dancer hugged Vox tightly and he hugged her back, his arms holding her tightly as if afraid to let go. "Magic, please don't break up with me," he pleaded. "I'm sorry. I just...I'm not good at dancing and...,"
Magic gently placed a finger over his mouth in the gesture of 'shhh'. She then used her pajama sleeve to gently wipe away his tears before her hands moved in sign language.
"Vox, I'm not upset and why would I break up with you over something so silly? I didn't know you couldn't dance, but I'm not going to push you to learn it if you don't want to and you have nothing to apologize for." She looked at him and she took an educated guess. "Did...something like this happen before?"
He nodded, tears coming to his eyes. "Yes, long ago," he said. "She told me that no one would care for a man who couldn't dance."
Magic felt anger towards the thoughtless person who had said that and she hugged Vox before she stood up and took his hands, encouraging him to get up and she grabbed his coffee, gesturing with her head for him to follow her. He did in confusion as she led him to the practice studio room, guiding him to sit down and she handed him his coffee before going to the computer and typing in Vox's favorite song to play. Smiling as it began, she began dancing, but it was a new routine she had worked on, something Vox noticed right away as he watched, smiling as not only his favorite song was cheering him up but also Magic was dancing for him.
Ozzy smiled as he saw this before he discreetly left, giving the two privacy before he went and found Oliver, Angel, and Fizz in the kitchen, the spider being cooking breakfast with Oliver helping and Fizz setting the table for breakfast and serving coffee. "Hey, big guy," the jester said. "Vox and Magic sleeping in?"
"Actually, Magic is dancing for Vox right now in the practice room," Ozzy said. "She's trying to cheer him up. He was upset this morning about last night."
"I figured that when Magic asked if she could stay with me last night. She felt she had upset Vox and didn't want to make him feel worse," Angel said. "She was sad that she had caused him to be upset."
"But she didn't mean to," Fizz said knowingly.
"Vox was in here crying when I found him this morning," Ozzy said. "From what I gathered, something happened in his past that involved dancing and he was afraid Magic would break up with him. She of course reassured him that wouldn't happen and I think she's showing him a new routine she's been working on."
Angel smiled. "Good," he said in relief. "I'm glad they made up."
Oliver started signing. "Maybe Auntie Magic can teach Uncle Vox how to dance," he said. "She's good at dancing, just like you, Uncle Angel."
"He's right," Fizz smiled. "Although, maybe Ozzy can teach Vox to dance."
The rooster-like being smiled. "Yes," he said. "I think I can convince him to let me teach him."
"Hey, if you could teach me and I have metal limbs, then I have no doubt you can teach Vox," the jester said.
Ozzy smiled and scooped Fizz up in a hug, tickling his sides and making him laugh. "I seem to recall that you were unsure of dancing too when I began teaching you," he said teasingly.
"AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! OZZY!" Fizz laughed out, much to the larger being's amusement.
Later that day, Vox took a deep breath and knocked on the door to Ozzy's home office. Though the door was open, he didn't want to be rude. The larger being looked up and smiled. "Ah, Vox, come in," he said. "How are you feeling?"
"Much better now, thanks to you and Magic," the television being said. "But...I was hoping to ask you something."
"Yes?" Ozzy prompted gently.
Vox took a deep breath. "Would you be willing to teach me how to dance? And...can we keep it on the down low?"
The rooster-like being smiled. "Of course," he said. "In fact, I was going to offer to teach you how to dance too."
The television being sighed in relief and smiled. "Thank you," he said. "When do lessons begin?"
Ozzy stood up and gestured for Vox to follow him, leading him to the practice dance room. "Magic and Angel are out with Fizz and Oliver for a few hours," he said.
Vox took a deep breath, ready to move past an old fear and learn how to dance.
A few months later, Magic and Angel finished a new music video, posing with both siblings facing the camera while kneeling with one knee out and arms up in a finishing pose. Vox turned off the camera and smiled. "Excellent," he said. "I'll upload this a bit later."
Angel noticed the time. "Well, I promised Ozzy and Fizz I'd watch Oliver tonight while they are in that meeting," he said.
Vox nodded. "Go ahead, Angel," he said. "Magic and I have to get ready for our date."
She smiled at him as he had asked her to go with him to a restaurant that had a huge dance floor, but she didn't know about the dance floor. She headed out to quickly get ready, putting on a sparkly blue dress that was off the shoulder and floor length. She did her makeup and put on the necklace Vox had given her a long time ago. Once ready, she went to find him and his eyes widened at seeing her in the dress. "Wow," he said in awe, making her smile before they headed out for their date.
After they were shown to their table, Vox tipped the waiter, asking him to ask the band to play a certain song. The waiter delivered the message and the band leader agreed, to which the waiter nodded to Vox, who nodded back in gratitude. Magic hadn't noticed as she was looking at the menu.
A moment later, the lights dimmed and the band began to play. Magic's head shot up as she immediately recognized the song as her favorite song, looking at Vox who smiled and stood up, going up to her and holding out a hand. She took his hand curiously and he smiled as he led her to the dance floor, surprising her as he wrapped an arm around her waist and held her other hand in his own. She instinctively placed her free arm on his free shoulder and Vox began leading her into a dance, surprising her. He smiled.
"Ozzy has been teaching me how to dance," he admitted. "After you comforted me that day, I decided I wanted to learn how to dance."
She smiled at him and as they continued dancing, Vox began singing the song lyrics to her, their feet moving in sync and in time to the beat. When the song ended, Magic wrapped her arms around Vox's neck and kissed him full on the mouth, not caring who was watching.
He kissed her back, holding her close. As the next song played, they took their seats to order their food. "We'll do another dance later," Vox promised.
"You're a wonderful dancer, Vox," she signed to him, making him smile again.
This idea came to me one day and I was like, 'Sure.'. :)
By the way, Magic's favorite song is "Crazy For You" by Madonna.
