"So? How did she take the news?" Haibara asked. Her and Conan met up at the professor's house the next day.

"Well…" The shrunken detective rubbed his head.

"The truth is… the truth is that I am Kudo Shinichi! I wanted to wait until the men who did this to me were put to justice. I only kept it a secret to protect you! I know this is a lot to take in, Ran…" Conan explained.

Ran let out a big sigh, taking Conan's glasses off of his face. "Baka! You think I didn't know that already?!"

"I-wait what!" Conan was shocked.

"You tried to trick me, but I know my own boyfriend, Shinichi!" Ran blushed as she called him her boyfriend out loud. "So? When are you gonna turn back?"

"Well, Haibara has to complete the antidote… until then, I have to stay in this form."

"But Ai-chan is just a kid... wait, is she actually a teenager like you?!" Ran gasped.

"Sooooo does this mean I can stay?" Conan jokingly asked.

.

.

.

"She was much more shocked that you were shrunken like me!" Conan laughed.

"I'm glad it worked out, Kudo-kun." Haibara smiled.

"So what's up with you? You seem a lot more cheerful today than usual…" Conan raised an eyebrow.

"Oh, am I not allowed to be happy?" Haibara scoffed. "I just have a good feeling about the antidote."

"What?! Is it ready?" Conan jumped.

"Of course not." Haibara rolled her eyes. "But I might have a breakthrough soon." Haibara thought about Rei's promise to help her out. 'I wonder if he'll come by today…'

"I didn't realize you cared so much, Haibara…" Conan smiled.

"Wha- you idiot! I don't care about him one bit!" Haibara glared.

"Him? I meant you're working so hard on the antidote lately, I really appreciate it!" Conan tilted his head. "What did you think I meant?"

"No-nothing! Anyway, now that you mention it, I do have to get back to work…" Haibara got up.

"Hey, take a break! Don't push yourself, ok?" Conan tried to get her to sit down again.

"Would you like to start the school year in 2nd grade or as a high school senior?" Haibara smirked. "Why don't you go plan something for us and the kids to do together? It's not like we'll be able to spend time together so leisurely soon."

"Ok…" Conan looked down. Even if they annoy him a little, he really loves the Detective Boys, and knows that Conan Edogawa and Ai Haibara leaving would hurt them a lot. "I'll plan the best Detective Boys adventure ever!" Conan exclaimed as he headed for the door.

"Oh, and Haibara…" Conan looked back. "Make sure you get some rest."

Haibara nodded as she went back to her room. "I will."

Haibara sighed as she heard the door shut. She was hoping for a breakthrough, but would Rei really be able to help? 'I wonder what Furuya-san is doing right now…' She thought as she turned on her computer.

.

.

.

"Here's all the files, I hope we find what you are looking for!" Kazami-san put down a big stack of folders "Um.. what is exactly that we are looking for?"

"To be honest, I'm not sure myself." Rei sighed. 'We weren't able to retrieve anything on APTX-4869, I'm sure Conan was able to grab any obvious data they may need…' He thought to himself. "Try to find anything on scientists or doctors that were affiliated with the organization."

The two officers began to scour through tons of documents seized from the organizations, but many things looked unhelpful to the naked eye.

Rei's eyes widened as he saw a familiar name pop up on a very old-looking document. "Miyano Elena…."

The file had very standard information: name, birthday, etc. It did include her known associates, but most of them were already deceased.

"Hold on…" Rei tapped on the paper. "What about this person? Arai Shigeo…An associate of Miyano Elena."

"It looks like he took over Miyano Elena's old clinic after she began to work with the Organization." Yuya explained "But according to the database, he passed away a few years ago."

"I know that, but could you find out if he had any kids? Someone must have taken over the clinic, after all."

"Let's see…" Yuya examined his computer screen. "It appears he does have a daughter who still lives in that area, he might be able to help you!"

"Great, let's go see him!" Rei grabbed his jacket.

"Woah there!" Yuya exclaimed. I'm already swamped with cases. "Do you mind if I sit this one out?"

"Oh, I'm sorry…" Rei felt bad. His friend helped him out so much even though he already had so much on his plate. "Thanks for the help, Kazami-san, I'll treat you to drinks next time!" He waved as he left.

"Anytime, Furuya-san!" Yuya chuckled.

BEEP BEEP

"Hm?" Haibara glanced at her phone. She received a text from an unknown number.

Meet me at 123 X street in 20 minutes.

- Zero :)

"Zero?" Haibara tilted her head. 'I have a feeling this is related to Furuya-san…'

"Professor! Could you give me a ride?"

.

.

.

Rei wandered along the road, searching for the clinic. He stopped in his tracks when he saw a young girl standing in front of it. Feeling mischievous, he tried to quietly sneak up on her.

"I know you're there!" Haibara said without even turning her head. "Furuya-san!"

"Aha-you got me." Rei chuckled. "Thanks for coming on short notice!"

"Hmph." Haibara pouted. "As if. You signed it in such a cryptic way, you're lucky I decided to come. How did you get my number, anyway?"

"I have my ways." Rei grinned. "And I wasn't being cryptic, Zero is an old nickname! I thought it would be fun."

"Whatever." Haibara sighed. "What are we doing at this old clinic anyways?"

"This isn't just any old clinic!" Rei smiled. "This was Miyano Elena's old clinic. She used to run it before joining the organization.

"This clinic… was mom's?" Haibara gasped. She had never known much about mother's life before she became Hell's Angel.

"I have a feeling that we'll be able to find something about APTX-4869 in here." Rei confidently stated. "Well, let's go in!"

"Hello! How can I help you?" An older woman greeted the two.

"Are you Arai Terumi? Arai Shigeo's daughter?" Rei questioned.

"I am! Were you a friend of my father's?"

"Not exactly… you see he bought this clinic from a woman named Miyano Elena, and we were wondering if he left anything related to her." Rei explained.

"Oh yes, that name does sound familiar… But it's been so long since we took over the clinic, I'm not sure if there is anything left. May I ask what for?" Terumi questioned.

"She may have left something for us!" Haibara chimed in. "Please let us look, it's really important ma'am!"

Terumi was taken aback by Haibara's desperate look. "All right, you may have a look around."

"Really? It's ok for us to look through your office?" Rei questioned her trusting two complete strangers.

"It's quite alright!" Terumi smiled. "I can tell you are honest and looking for something really precious to you, right little girl?"

Haibara nodded happily. "I am, thank you!"

"Yeah, thank you!" Rei bowed.

"Of course!" Terumi gestured to the back.

"Do you really think we'll find something here?" Haibara questioned.

"We have to try!" Rei began to rummage through some boxes.

"Hm? That first-aid kit…" Haibara pointed at the white metal box sitting on top of a cabinet.

"Is there something strange about it? Rei looked up.

"It looks much older compared to everything else in the office." Haibara got on her tippy toes, trying to grab it.

"Pfft." Rei tried to hold in a laugh. 'She can't reach it, that's so adorable.'

"What's so funny?!" Haibara glared. "Are you gonna help me or what!"

"Oh, this first aid kit…" Terumi grabbed it and handed it to Haibara. "The box itself is old, but the contents are replaced pretty frequently." She explained.

Haibara and Rei carefully took everything out of the first aid kit, examining the box.

"I think… I think this has a false bottom!" Rei exclaimed. He quickly tried to pull the bottom off, revealing a couple of papers underneath.

"Oh my!" Terumi exclaimed. "Would you look at that!"

"There really was something here… ouch!" Rei accidentally cut his finger against the false bottom.

"Be careful!" Haibara scolded as she reached for a bandage. "Look, know you're bleeding."

Rei smiled as Haibara placed a bandage on his finger. 'Like mother like daughter…'

"A photograph…" Terumi picked up a paper off the floor. "Is this what you were looking for?"

Haibara's eyes widened as she saw the picture of a young Akemi, her father, and a very pregnant Elena. 'My family…'

"Here you go!" Terumi happily handed the picture over.

Rei examined the other papers left inside, which were mostly handwritten notes. 'Diary pages? No, wait…' Rei looked over at Haibara, smiling at the young girl. 'I think we found the missing puzzle.' He placed the first aid back, and pat Haibara on the head.

"Let's go home?"

"Mm." Haibara nodded, not looking up from the picture.

He waved goodbye to the doctor, and the two headed back to Rei's car.

.

.

.

"Thanks for everything, Furuya-san…" Haibara quietly said as they drove up to Agasa's house.

Rei was amused by her shy behavior. Even a hardened scientist can have her sweet moments. "Anytime, Miyano-san. Oh, and don't forget these…" He handed her some folded pages as she got out of the car.

"This… this is…" Haibara scanned the pages contents.

"I don't understand much of it science jargon, but it looks like it's your parents notes when they just started working on APTX-4869." Rei explained. "This might be helpful, right?"

"I've never seen my parent's handwriting before…" Haibara said she examined the penmanship.

Rei smiled, reminiscing about his time with the Miyano family. "Your parents were kind and wonderful people, Miyano-san… just like you."

Haibara held up the pages, covering the blush that started to creep on her cheeks. That stupid sweet look on his face managed to make her flustered again. "Thanks…"

"Well, I'll see you later then. Let me know if I can help with anything else!" Rei waved as Haibara went into the house.

'Now then…' Rei thought as he drove around the corner, parking his car once more.

"How long do you plan on hanging around here?" Rei asked as he got out the vehicle, menacingly cracking his knuckles

A man walked out, smirking. "Fired up as usual, Furuya-san."

"Hmph, I could say the same to you…

Akai Shuichi!"

Hey everyone! I hoped you enjoyed this chapter!

I added in a little easter egg character hehe. Arai Terumi is a character from an old one shot Gosho Aoyama wrote called 'Tell me a lie.' I remember reading it a long time ago, has anyone else here read it?

Anyways, as usual, please let me know what you think! Thanks for reading! 3
