Chapter 83

Hanna opened her eyes. Was she moving? Something was obscuring her vision. She wasn't sure what it was, but her head was pounding, and she was definitely moving. She tried to reach up to where it hurt the most, but she couldn't move her arm. She tried with her other arm instead. Why was her head wet? Hanna held her hand out in front of her and all she saw was red.

"It's alright, love."

"Killian?" Hanna realized why she was moving. He was carrying her. "What…what happened?"

"The Queen."

Hanna remembered. The Queen threw her across the beach. She must have hit her head. "Where…where are you taking me?"

"The hospital."

"No!" Hanna tried to sit up, but the pain was too much. "Killian, please. Just…just take me home. I…I'm fine."

"We're already here, and you are not fine."

"Put her here," a nurse said.

Hanna felt herself being lowered. "No!" She tried to cling to Killian's jacket, but cried out when a pain shot through her arm.

"Hanna, you have to let them help you."

"Just take me home."

"I can't do that. I've called your mother. She's on her way. Please, lie down."

Hanna sighed. "Just don't leave me, okay?"

"I'll be right here." Killian held onto her hand.

The nurse wheeled Hanna into a room and moved her onto the bed. She adjusted the bed, so Hanna was sitting up, then cleaned the cut on her forehead.

Hanna could see properly now that the blood was gone. The nurse clean the blood from her hand too, but Hanna's shirt was still covered in it. The cut must have been bad. Hanna hoped it wasn't bad enough for…

"Stitches," the nurse said.

Hanna's eyes went wide. "What?"

"I said the bleeding has stopped, but you're going to need stitches."

"No. I…I don't. I'm fine."

"I'm going to get the supplies. Lay still while I'm gone and watch that arm." The nurse looked to Killian. "I'm pretty sure it's broken."

Hanna looked at her arm and the throbbing became apparent. Hanna tried to lift it, but all that did was send a shooting pain up to her shoulder. Hanna bit her lip to stop herself from crying out. It was definitely broken. Hanna took a deep breath and looked to Killian. "Please take me home." Hanna used her good arm to push herself forward. She swung her legs over the edge of the bed.

"No, love. You need to get back into the bed."

"No. I'm not staying here. Take me home."

"I can't do that."

"Fine I'll do it myself." Hanna lifted her hand. If he wouldn't take her, she would just use her magic to go there herself.

Killian held onto it. "Hanna, no."

Hanna pulled against his hold.

"You're hurt. Your sister and Regina aren't here to heal you, so the doctors are your only option. Let them help you."

Hanna's eyes filled with tears. She knew he was right, but she didn't want him to be. She didn't want the needles that came with getting stitches. She didn't want to get an X-ray and the cast that was sure to follow. She didn't want to be here. She wanted her sister to fix everything and make it all better, but she was stuck in a mirror. She wanted her mom and her dad, but she couldn't have them both here with her. Nothing was okay and Hanna wasn't sure anything ever would be again. She couldn't do anything, so she did what Killian asked. She leaned back against the pillow and the tears began to fall.

"Honey, what happened?"

Hanna lifted her head when she heard the familiar voice. "Mom!"

Snow rushed to the bed. She sat down beside Hanna and pulled her into her arms. "I'm here. It's okay."

"The Evil Queen she…she…Emma and Regina…they…"

"Hanna, slow down. Just relax." Snow looked to Killian for answers.

"The Queen trapped Emma and Regina in the mirror," he told her.

"Do we know how to get them out?"

"I'm afraid not, but I'm going to go find a way."

"Are you sure you don't need to be checked out too?" Snow asked, indicating to the red bump on Killian's forehead.

"I'm alright."

Hanna sat up. "Killian, are your sure?"

"I didn't hit my head nearly as hard as you did. I'll be fine."

Hanna watched Killian leave, then she laid down on her mom. Her head was pounding. She looked towards the door when she heard someone else walk into the room. Her eyes went wide. It was the Evil Queen.

"My my it seems I did make a mess of things, didn't I?"

Snow got to her feet and rushed towards the Queen. "What are you doing here?"

"I came to check on the patient." The Queen peered around Snow. "How are you feeling?"

"Don't talk to her!"

The Queen shifted her eyes to Snow. "Why, not? I can help her."

"You're the one who did this to her!"

"It was just a misunderstanding." The Queen looked back to Hanna. "I could heal you, if you want."

"You're not going anywhere near her."

The Queen's eyes stayed fixed on Hanna. "You wouldn't have to endure any needles. It would take only a second." The Queen lifted her hand and made to walk towards the bed.

Snow stayed in step with her, blocking her path. "Get the hell away from my daughter!"

"Fine." The Queen lowered her hand.

"Go!"

The Queen smirked. "Are you getting enough sleep, dear? You really do look awful."

"Get out of here!" Snow shoved the Queen.

The Queen stumbled back into a cart that held medical supplies. She quickly straightened herself and brushed her hands down her dress. She stepped closer to Snow. Her eyes narrowed and her face held that familiar menacing look. "Tell your prince I said hello."

"You…" Snow lunged towards the Queen, but before she could do anything she disappeared in a cloud of smoke. Snow took a deep breath and turned back to Hanna. "Are you alright?"

Hanna nodded.

Snow walked back over to the bed and sat down beside her.

"Mom, let's just go. I feel fine. I…I promise."

"We're not going anywhere, Hanna. You need stitches and….

"But my heads not even bleeding anymore."

"The wound still needs to be closed to keep out infection and so it can heal properly."

"Just put a band aid on it."

"You know that's not going to work. You need to have your arm examined too."

"My arm is fine."

Snow raised her eyebrows at her. "Then lift it above your head."

Hanna looked at her arm, then back at her mom. She knew she couldn't and felt the tears well up in her eyes again. "We can just wait…Emma and Regina will get out of the mirror and…and one of them can fix me. I…I don't need to be here, Mom, please!"

Snow reached out and wiped the tears that fell down Hanna's cheeks. "I know you're scared, sweetie, but we need to let the doctors help you this time, okay?"

Hanna nodded her head. She knew there was no other choice. She leaned into her mom, who wrapped her arms around her.

"So tell me, where exactly did you run into the Queen again?" Snow asked Hanna once she calmed down.

"Umm…Granny's."

"That's funny because Granny said you were never there. You poofed yourself from the loft, so where did you go?"

"Just outside Granny's. I never actually went in."

"No, I don't think that's what happened either."

"Well it is."

"Hanna, there is sand all over your clothes."

"There is?" Hanna looked down and saw that her clothes were covered in the sand form the beach. "Oh."

Snow gently lifted Hanna's chin and raised her eyebrows at her. "How about the truth this time?"

Hanna sighed. "There was something off about the voicemail Emma left. I knew Killian thought so too. He was going somewhere to find out what really happened. I needed to go with him, but I knew you would never let me, so I lied about the hot chocolate and poofed myself to Killian. He was at the beach. We found Emma's phone and a bunch of broken glass, then the Queen showed up."

"Do you have any idea what she could have done to you?"

"I know, but I didn't mean to run into her. I was just with Killian and she showed up."

Snow sighed "I should have never let you leave."

"I would have left one way or another. If you didn't say yes to Granny's I would have just pretended to go to the bathroom and poofed myself to Killian anyway."

"Why didn't you just tell me?"

"I didn't think you would believe me. You didn't last time and…"

"You're right. We didn't believe you before, but what did your dad and I promise you?"

Hanna thought back to their conversation after they learned about Emma's vision. "That you would listened to me next time I had a feeling about Emma."

"I would have listened this time, Hanna."

"But you were so excited about the dance and you wouldn't want me to miss it, and then there was the voicemail…there wasn't time. I couldn't take the chance that you wouldn't listen to me."

"Sweetie, I'm sorry I made you feel like you couldn't tell me, but I made you a promise and I intend to keep it. I promise you, I would have listened and I will listen to you in the future, okay?"

"Okay."

"You made a promise to your father and me too…no more secrets, remember?"

Hanna felt sick. The fact that she hasn't been doing her homework, and changing her parents' notes instantly came to mind. Maybe that didn't count as a secret though? No one was going to get hurt if she missed a few math assignments. Hanna looked up at her mom. "I remember."

"We have to be able to trust each other, okay?"

Hanna nodded.

"Come here." Snow pulled Hanna close. "Try to get some rest."

A little while later, the door opened again. It was Dr. Whale. Hanna's muscles tensed when she saw him. She knew what was coming.

Snow tightened her grip. "It's okay."

Hanna watched Dr. Whale wheel the stool to the other side of the bed and sit. The nurse brought over the tray, which held the suture kit. Hanna's breathing was becoming more rapid.

"I hear you have yourself a pretty nasty cut," Dr. Whale said. "How about you let me take a look?"

Hanna turned away from him and clung to her mom.

"Hanna…" Snow brushed her hand down Hanna's cheek.

Hanna looked up at her.

"You have to let him fix you, honey."

Hanna took a deep breath. "I know." She turned back towards him and sat still while he examined the wound.

"I'm going to give you a shot first to numb the area."

Hanna watched him reach towards the tray and pick up the syringe. He pulled off the cap, revealing the needle. Hanna's eyes went wide, and she backed away from the needle as Dr. Whale moved it closer and closer to her face. "Momma…"

"It's alright," Snow held her tightly, preventing her from moving any further. "Just close your eyes and sit still. It'll be over before you know it."

Hanna did what her mom said. She flinched when the needle made contact with her skin and a few tears escaped her eyes. Once the area was numbed, Dr. Whale stitched the wound and put on a bandage. Then he looked into Hanna's eyes and asked her a few questions.

"We'll be back in a little while to take you for an X-ray," he said. "You have a mild concussion, so you'll need to stay in bed."

"Thank you." Snow brushed the hair from Hanna's face. "How does your head feel?"

"It hurts."

"Can you get her something for the pain?" Snow asked Dr. Whale.

"Yes, I'll have the nurse bring her something."

"Thank you."

The nurse brought Hanna medicine for her head, then they took her down for an X-ray. Her arm was broken just as they thought and she needed a cast. Hanna didn't care what color she got, so her mom picked purple for her. Dr. Whale said they could go home, but Hanna would need to rest and to bring her back if her headache got any worse or if she became nauseous or dizzy. Snow helped Hanna to the car. They stopped by Granny's to pick up Neal, then went back to the loft.

As soon as Hanna walked inside, she saw something she was not expecting. "Emma!" Hanna ran to her sister.

"Hey, Han." Emma wrapped her arms around her.

"Oh Emma, you're here." Snow put Neal's carseat down and went to her. "Are you okay?"

"How did you get out? Hanna asked. "Is Regina…"

"Regina's fine. Henry got us out, actually. What happened to you?" Emma touched the bandage on Hanna's head and looked towards her cast.

"I'm fine," Hanna told her. "How did Henry get you out?"

"He used some kind of hammer. I'm not exactly sure how it all worked. He can tell you. What happened to you?"

"Well, I…"

"She confronted the Evil Queen," Snow said.

Hanna rolled her eyes. "I didn't confront her. I just happened upon her when Killian and I were looking for you."

"Weren't you suppose to be getting ready for the dance?" Emma asked.

"Well I…"

"She snuck out to find you," Snow said. She went to Neal and pulled him out of his carseat, then walked back over to the girls. "She forgot we're not keeping secrets anymore."

"Yeah we're not doing that anymore, remember?" Emma gave her a nudge.

Hanna sighed. "I know. I know. I already got a lecture about it at the hospital."

"How is your head feeling?" Snow asked. "Is the medicine helping?"

"Yeah it doesn't hurt as much." Hanna looked to Emma. "Can you do something about this." She held up her injured arm.

"Yeah." Emma waved her hand over Hanna's cast, making it disappear.

Hanna twisted her arm around and could tell it was completely healed. "Thank you."

"Stay still, let me get your head too." Emma waved her hand and healed the wound. "The inside might still need some time to heal, so take it easy."

"I will."

"Thank you, Emma," Snow said. "Can you take your brother for me? I was suppose to wake your father hours ago."

"Sure, Mom." Emma reached out for the baby.

Snow turned to Hanna. "You be sure to rest, okay?"

Hanna nodded. "I will. I promise."

Snow wrapped her arms around her. "Are you sure you're feeling better?" Hanna returned the hug. "Yes. I'm fine."

"Good." Snow stepped back and turned to Emma. "Please make sure you fill your father in on everything that happened."

"What? You don't trust me to tell him?" Hanna asked.

Snow gave Hanna a smile. "No, I don't." Snow kissed Hanna's forehead, then did the same to Neal and Emma. "I love you three, and I'll see you in a few hours."

"We love you too," Hanna and Emma said at the same time.

Hanna watched her mom go into the bedroom, then looked up at Emma. "You know we could just not tell Dad what happened?"

"Han, I have to tell him."

"Come on. They'll never know. They still haven't figured out…" Hanna quickly stopped herself.

"What? Are you keeping something else from them?"

"No."

Emma raised her eyebrows at her. "No more…"

"Secrets. I know. I know. We can tell him, whatever, it's fine."

"But what else…"

Hanna saw her dad coming out from the bedroom. "It's nothing. Just stop."

"Han…"

"Hey Dad!" Hanna said.

David smiled when he saw his children. "Hey you three. What happened? Why am I up so late? And aren't you suppose to be at the dance?"

Hanna looked at her sister. "Can you tell him for me? My head still hurts."

David raised his eyebrows. "What happened to your head?"

"Here, Dad, take your baby." Emma lifted Neal towards him. "We'll go sit on the couch and fill you in on what happened."

David took Neal and went to the couch with the girls. Emma told him everything she knew and Hanna filled in the rest.

"Hanna, you're lucky she didn't do something worse. I don't even want to think…"

"Dad, I know…" Hanna groaned. "Mom already gave me a lecture. I was stupid and should have just stayed home." Hanna lifted her hand to her head.

David sighed. "Is your head still bothering you?"

Hanna nodded.

"You need to get some sleep. Let's get you into bed. Emma, can you…"

"No, I'm not tired. I just don't want to talk about it anymore."

"You really should get some sleep," Emma said.

"Hanna, go lay down," David said.

Hanna shook her head. "No, I…"

Neal started to fuss.

David stood and bounced the baby. "Please don't argue with me." He looked around for the baby's pacifier. He found it in Neal's carseat and tried to give it to him, but he wouldn't take it.

"He's hungry, Dad," Hanna said.

"I know." David went to the kitchen to make a bottle.

"Why are you giving Dad such a hard time?" Emma asked. "Just go to bed, it's late."

Hanna shrugged. "I don't know. I just don't want to sleep."

"You either go to bed or I'm telling Dad that you're keeping a secret."

"I'm not."

Emma raised her eyebrows at her.

"Alright fine, but it's not a big deal. It's just about school."

"What is it?"

"Dad's coming back. I'll tell you later."

"Okay, Hanna. Time for bed," David said.

"No, please I…" Before Hanna could protest any further, she felt herself being transported. When she looked down, she was in her pajamas and laying in bed next to her mom. "Emma!"

"Go to sleep, Hanna. I'll talk to you tomorrow."

Hanna glared at her sister.

"Unless you want to talk right now…"

Hanna frantically sat up. "No. Tomorrow is fine." She did not want Emma to bring up her secret in front of their dad.

"I'll see you tomorrow, then. Get some sleep." Emma said her goodbyes to David and Neal before leaving.

David stood beside the bed. "Listen to your sister, and go to sleep."

"But Dad…"

"Hanna…"

"Dad, I…I can't." Hanna could feel the tears start to form in her eyes. She knew as soon as she laid down to sleep everything that happened today would come flooding back, invading her thoughts and haunting her dreams.

David sighed. He looked down at Neal, who was still working on his bottle. "Go to the couch. I'll finish feeding Neal and put him to bed, then I'll sit with you on the couch while you sleep."

Hanna smiled and nodded her head. She got up from the bed, picked up her blanket and a pillow, and went to the couch. Her Dad joined her a few minutes later. She put her pillow on his lap and laid down. She realized how tired she was as soon as her head hit the pillow.

"You don't need to go into work?"

"No, I'm staying right here." David leaned down and kissed the top of her head, then pulled the blanket from the back of the couch and covered her up.

Hanna relaxed, closed her eyes, and drifted off to sleep.
