"Jesus, you scared me, Rem. Anyways, what chores do I have?" Subaru brushed this off and redirected the topic.
"Same as usual, Subaru. Once you're finished, you are off for the day." Rem pierced his ears with her cold tone.
'When she wants to, she can really be scary. I better not make her mad'.
Subaru exited the room and got to work, happily sweeping and cleaning.
"Hey Beako, your library needs cleaning." Subaru had accidently walked into her library, and he kept sweeping despite Beatrice's obvious annoyance.
"Betty doesn't like how you always find her door crossing."
Beatrice was not happy, to say the least.
"What's a door crossing beako?" Subaru had never heard the term before. Beatrice scoffed in an 'I shall provide this lower intelligence being with my divine knowledge' tone.
"A door crossing is a spell only Betty can use; it allows Betty to switch out any door in Rosenthals mansion to her library." Beatrice was annoyed at the fact Subaru didn't even stop to listen; he just kept sweeping.
"Very interesting. I guess this spell is meant to seek me out as well." Subaru mocked the fact he could easily find his way into the library. Beatrice pondered the words he just said and replaced her cold, uninterested face with that of an angry child.
"Betty thinks you should leave!" Beatrice motioned with her hand, and Subaru found himself lying in a bush yet again.
'How many times has she done this to me? It's starting to become unfunny; well, it wasn't really funny to begin with.'
Subaru got off of the bush, dusting off his clothes and picking up the broom he dropped when she sent him flying.
"Barusu? Is getting sent flying a daily routine for you?" Subaru had almost completely forgotten about Rem's twin since he barely saw her, and she never talked to him.
"You're talking to me? That's a first; did my appeal finally get to you, and you want a piece of me?" Ram kept her cold tone on and stared deep into Subaru's soul.
"I'm just kidding, after all, I'm dating your—wait, what name did you call me?" Subaru was puzzled.
'Did she say my name wrong, or did I hear her wrong?'.
"What do you mean, Barusu?" Ram had a slight grin on her face. Of all the nicknames she could have given him, she just twisted the letters in his name around.
"You just turned my name into a puzzle; god, I hate puzzles." Subaru cracked a joke that didn't resonate with Ram; in fact, she looked as though she hadn't even heard his joke.
"It makes sense that a person with that much intelligence… hates puzzles," Ram had grabbed a knife with her vocal cords and plunged it deep into Subaru, metaphorically, of course.
'This witty banter is pointless'.
"Oww, your words hurt so much. Did you come here to shame me, or is there another reason?" Subaru slashed through the war zone of uncomfortable air and cut to the heart of the matter.
"Yes, I did in fact come here for another purpose. Emilia asked me to check up on you." Ram pivoted and angled her head, looking Subaru up and down, as if he might have a fatal injury on his body and not
know it.
"Umm, I think she meant to have a nice conversation, or find out my likes and dislikes, or examine my mental state, etc."
Ram shook her head and gently poked Subaru, as if he might fall apart just from a light tap.
'She's really starting to annoy me. I hope she gets enough "evaluation" so she can report back to Emilia'. Ram stopped poking him and turned on her heels, away from Subaru. Ram began walking away with a pep in her step.
"Got enough info to satisfy Emilia?" Ram stopped in her tracks and turned her head back to Subaru.
"Info for Emilia?" Ram acted as if she wasn't told to do it by Emilia and instead did it for herself.
"You were checking up on me as per Emilia's request, right?"
Subaru was starting to wonder if she had forgotten. Ram shook her head and laughed.
"No, I was just wondering what made Rem like you so much; I couldn't come up with anything." Subaru was pierced by yet another hit to his ego.
"Hey, if you wanted to poke me, you could've just asked; also, lying is bad ram." Subaru responded with a higher pitch to his voice, as if he were making fun of her.
Ram looked at him with a cold disinterest in her eyes, as if she were calmly thinking of a way to rip his ego to shreds, well, whatever is left of it.
"Only a pervert would let someone poke them with no reason as to why." Ram snapped back, but Subaru was already one step ahead of her.
"Only a pervert would lie about something to get to put their hands on someone." Subaru snapped her out of her cold machine-like personality. Her face had a blend of shock and confusion plastered over it.
"Y-you-you… fine I shall admit defeat on this matter." Ram looked away from Subaru yet again and walked towards the mansion.
'Damn she sure makes winning against her seem so unfun.'
Subaru went through the motions of radio calisthenics and then went back inside the mansion.
'Well, it's time to start cooking. I hope that I didn't make Rem wait too long to get started on breakfast.' Subaru was intercepted before he could head to the kitchen by none other than Emilia.
"Hey subaru." Emilia's tone was cute to say the least; she seemed really excited about something, something Subaru might find stupid.
"Guess what Subaru." Emilia said as Subaru prepared to put on a fake smile, ready to celebrate with her.
"What Emilia?" Subaru knew Emilia to be an airhead, so he was scared of what she might say.
"I found out where babies come from." Subaru didn't have any way to react to this; his face was complex yet simple; it portrayed so much yet so little.
"Who told you?" Subaru cut the air with his sharp tone, as if he were sharpening his voice to kill.
"Beatrice told me." Emilia acted as if it were the most normal thing in the world.
"BEAKO." Subaru rushed to the nearest door and ripped it open, walking into Beakos Library.
"Betty can hear you just fine; you don't need to scream, I suppose." Beatrice looked at her book with disinterest in Subaru.
"Did you tell Emilia where babies come from?" Subaru thundered.
"Whatever do you mean?" Beatrice tried to hide her sneer behind her book to no avail.
"Beako, why did you do it?" Subaru was perplexed at why Beatrice of all people would tell Emilia about that.
"She asked Betty for useful knowledge, and Betty gave it to her."
"She asked for useful knowledge, beako! Not that knowledge..." Subaru was prepared to fight Beatrice but quickly reevaluated himself and didn't want to get obliterated.
"Betty thinks that knowledge could be useful to her in the future." Beatrice was lying through her teeth. Subaru was pissed off.
"How about I give you some knowledge about Mr. left and Mr. right?" Subaru rolled up his sleeves but was sent flying out of the room and into a wall. She sent him flying, especially hard this time.
"Subaru what's wrong?" Emilia went over to check on Subaru and make sure he wasn't dead, although he might as well be.
"Please don't use that knowledge; it's too dangerous." Subaru passed out.
"Betty warned him not to mess with her." Beatrice scoffed and turned her gaze away from Rem, who was planning on murdering her.
"Betty does not touch my husband with magic nor her body; get it, you wretched creature?" Rem hurled an insult at her, almost as hard as she hurls her mace.
"Betty does not want to dirty her hands with your husband." Beatrice and Rem were having a word battle right next to Subaru's bed; he had already woken up without them realizing.
"Your hands would dirty my Subaru; you have no breasts; even if you could get a man, he wouldn't be able to cry into your chest." Beatrice looked down at her chest and flew into a rage.
"At least Betty isn't a little goody two shoes maid." Rem flew into a rage as well.
"At least I can attract men." Rem laughed at the scowl Beatrice had on her face; she was only used to winning arguments with facts and logic, not insults.
"Betty could have any man if she wanted to. Unlike you who chases after someone who doesn't even love you." Beatrice was adapting to the war zone of words and started gaining the upper hand.
"Would you get any man you want by kidnapping them, you little wench?" Both Rem and Beatrice were at a standstill; if both of them were to insult each other again, they might have started fighting.
"Lady's ladies, stop fighting over me." Subaru cracked a joke, which neither of them laughed at. They both just slowly turned their heads to Subaru like something out of a horror movie.
"Look at the time I should go make breakfast." Subaru tried to get out of bed, but Betty froze him in place with a spell he wasn't familiar with.
"Betty wants to know your opinion, which one of us is more attractive." Beatrice actually thought she was more attractive than Rem.
"Obviously Rem, you look like a small child; no offense though."
Subaru didn't even hesitate with his harsh words. Beatrice motioned with her hand, unfreezing Subaru's body. She stormed out of the room slowly since her legs were too short to make large strides. She was unhappy with both of them.
"Thank you, Subaru." Rem and Subaru stood in awkward silence.
"So how long was I out?" Subaru didn't even get to finish his sentence.
"It's currently lunchtime Subaru." Rem interrupted him, which kind of annoyed him, but not as much as the fact he made Rem cook up breakfast alone.
"Oh No. I'm sorry, Rem. I should've immediately come to the kitchen to help you prepare for breakfast." Subaru was unhappy with himself.
"Don't worry, breakfast was quick and easy thanks to my immense skills." Rem patted her arm and chuckled along with Subaru.
"You really are the perfect girl." Subaru was blunt with his flirting, but that was what made Rem like him so much.
"Thank you, Subaru. You always know how to make a girl feel good about herself."
"I need an extra chore to make up for missing cooking breakfast." Subaru stated, Rem nodded and smiled.
"Well Subaru. We will give you extra work tomorrow. Does that seem okay to you?" Rem questioned Subaru. Subaru affirmed her question with a nod.
"Do I have any more chores for the day?"
"No, not any that I can think of."
The rest of the day went by smoothly, and he decided to procrastinate on the sword he saw in his dreams.
"So this sword seems to be really powerful; well, maybe it is, since it's so cool-looking." Subaru was scribbling onto a piece of paper on a desk next to his bed.
"It looks so cool, I wish I could at least hold it just once." Subaru was absentmindedly talking to himself.
"Man, I bet I'd become the strongest in the world if I got my hands on it." Subaru had drawn the sword perfectly with his pen; it was a near 1 to 1 of the ones he saw in his dreams.
"No use procrastinating what I don't have; I guess I should head to bed." Subaru placed the pen down on top of the paper and stood up, pushing the chair away from the title. Subaru hopped into bed again and went to sleep.
Yet again he had another dream about the sword. He was in a barren wasteland with a red-haired man. He recognized that face and sword immediately; it was Reinhard van Astrea standing in front of him with his sword drawn, a face of unbridled hatred plastered over his face.
"You monster, I'll kill you!" Reinhard yelled at Subaru, and Subaru looked down shocked. At his feet were the bodies of all his closest friends, Emilia, Rem, Ram, and even his own body.
'What is happening? Why is everyone dead?' Subaru looked down and saw that same great sword in his hands; it shined even more brilliantly than before.
"Reinhard, what happened?" Subaru meant to say, yet the only words that came out of his mouth churned his stomach.
"Your next bastard will make sure you die in the most brutal way of them all." Subaru took his left hand off of the sword and covered his mouth.
"You monster, you killed them all; I'll make sure you suffer." Reinhard rushed him at blinding speeds, but before their blades could clash…
Subaru woke up in a panic.
"Oh my god, what was that?" Subaru yelled out as he looked down at his hands and around the room.
Subaru was still in the mansion.
'Shit, what the hell was that? Is that what's going to happen if I don't control myself? I've got to make sure that reality never comes to fruition?'.
Subaru saw Rosswaal standing in the doorway, looking at him with a puzzled look.
"Bad dream, Subaruuu?" Subaru nodded and hopped out of bed.
"I should get to work; I don't want to make Rem angry." Subaru tried to walk past Roswaal, but he was grabbed on the shoulder.
"In 4 days we will head to the capital for the royal selection." Subaru nodded. Roswaal let go of him, and Subaru exited the room.
'I should start by cleaning the mansion' Subaru grabbed a broom and did the usual cleaning procedure. Clean the mansion, get flung into the courtyard by Beatrice, and enter the kitchen.
"Hey Rem, let's get to cooking." Subaru grabbed a knife and sliced some cooked meat, vegetables, and fruits. Rem took these sliced foods and combined them into a tasty salad with meat on it.
"So what's my next task?" Subaru placed the knife back where it belonged and questioned Rem.
"You and I will be heading to the village to stock up on items." Rem smiled as she spoke.
'Hmm, so she just wanted to spend more time with me instead of making me do actual chores. I don't really mind spending time with her, though.
"Alright, let's go." Subaru responded, and they exited the mansion. Rem grabbed an earth dragon and attached it to a wagon. They both hop in and chat the entire way to the village.
"Rem your a beast!" Subaru was struggling to lift one box while Rem was lifting 3 boxes stacked on top of each other without breaking a sweat. They finished loading the wagon, and Subaru decided to stay in the village to stock up on supplies. Rem left with the wagon. Subaru went on a complete shopping spree with all the money he had. He bought tea bags, food and drinks, 6 bottles of alcohol, a lighter, some short knives, and a few rags. He also bought 3 small wooden shields. He bought some thick rope for his last purchase.
"Damn, I spent all the money I had. Well, I guess being prepared is better than being rich." Subaru had placed all the items into his rifts.
Subaru left the shops and headed off to the mansion.
"Home sweet home." Subaru muttered to himself as he opened the gate and walked in. He shut it behind him and walked through the courtyard to the mansion entrance. He entered inside and headed to the kitchen.
'I hope I came back in time to help make lunch.'
Subaru walked into the kitchen, greeted by Rem. They began cooking, and after about 30 minutes, breakfast was ready.
"Thanks for the help, Subaru." Rem thanked him in such a cute voice.
"No problem, I love it when you make those cute faces." Rem blushed at this remark and laughed with Subaru. They were practically a couple.
"Betty wonders when you will get married, I suppose." Beako had been watching the two banter for an undisclosed amount of time.
"Oh, you must be so jealous." Rem took a stab at Beatrice's ego, and it went straight through her heart.
"I am not jealous, I suppose." Beatrice had stopped talking in the third person; she was so jealous of the two lovebirds.
"It seems like you're so jealous you started talking in first person." Rem didn't quite understand what this first person Subaru was talking about was, but she laughed at the pout Beatrice made.
"Betty did not; she doesn't like your attitude." Beatrice raised her hand and was about to blast both of them away, but lowered it when she saw how happy they were together. She left the kitchen and ran to the closest door in the mansion.
"She seems to want someone to give her a hug. Maybe we should hug her together the next time we see her." Rem nodded at Subaru's idea, and they both separated from each other. Rem went to do her chores while Subaru decided to check up on Emilia.
'Knock knock who's in there.' Subaru knocked on the door to Emilia's room gently.
"Hey Subaru, you can come in." Emilia's muffled voice gave him an answer.
"Ok." Subaru walked into the room and looked around.
"What do you need, Subaru?" Emilia sat near a desk, writing something down.
"I was just wondering if you were doing okay? Need anything?" Emilia looked up from her desk and turned her head to Subaru; she looked sleep-deprived.
" Emilia! You need to get some rest!" Subaru grabbed a pillow and blanket off the bed and walked up to Emilia. He placed the blanket on her back and the pillow below her head.
"But I need to-to-" Emilia's head dropped onto the pillow as she cutely snored.
'Jeez, she gave me a heart attack. I hope she doesn't pull stuff like that again.' Subaru was unhappy with Emilia not going to sleep on time. But what weirded him out was that she got eyebags from 1 day of not sleeping.
"Sweet dreams, Emilia." Subaru left the room and gently shut the door. Subaru walked down the hallway and finally found his room, but when he opened it, he was greeted by an annoying sight.
"Oh, come on, stop seeking me out, Beatrice!" Subaru walked inside the library, ready to give Beatrice a piece of his mind.
"Betty wonders what deal you made with the devil to get that power; it's so utterly annoying." Beatrice hated the fact Subaru always found her door crossing; it drove her insane.
"Well, at least I didn't make a spell to seek someone out." Subaru cracked a joke, which only seemed to enrage Beatrice.
"Betty did not make a spell to seek you out, I suppose." Beatrice pouted with an extremely cute face,.
"Well, I guess I'll take my leave; I wouldn't want to bother you any more, my seeker." That last word he snuck in enraged Beatrice; she raised her hand and sent him flying out of the room and into the hallway. Subaru had prepared for this and dove so he would go out the window; instead, he hit the hard wall below the window.
,Damn, that hurts. Well, I guess I shouldn't expect getting sent flying into a wall to not hurt.
Subaru entered his room and hopped into bed; he was greeted by another dream.
"I love you, I love you, I love you." A white-haired elf, just like Emilia said
Subaru instinctively tightened the grip on the great blue sword he realized he was holding.
"Stay away from me, you bastard!" Subaru said as the girl walked closer and closer to him, her face was not one of malice but one of pure love and happiness. Subaru tried to swing his sword down on her, but it was sent flying out of his hands by some unknown force.
"Stay away!" Subaru fell onto his butt in his stumbling panic. The girl sat down on her butt as well once she got within arms length of him.
"I love you!" She happily chirped as she pulled Subaru into a melting hug. It was so warm and comfortable.
