- chapter 24 - A Mother's hope
It was early to mid morning in the city as Lucy along with her steady companions Jiro her dog and Patamon her Digital Monster partner had just finished up their necessary shopping. Her housemates Mayu & Yuka needed cucumbers, mushrooms, carrots and and broccoli for tonight's kushikatsu (aka pork and vegetables coated with bread crumbs and fried on a skewer). She managed to find some high grade beef steak, chicken and shrimp for her trio of American friends aka Alex, JP, and Jason. They loved their meat in the US she figured. Might as well make a few of their favorites. "Ahh the boys just love my cooking... A blessing and curse I guess.'' She said to no one.
''Don't sell yourself so short Luce. Frankly between you and me I heard Jason telling Kohta you'd make some guy a mighty fine wife someday. Mainly Kohta, hmm eh?'' Her orange partner said coyly wiggling his eyebrows.
Glaring her kindly yet naive partner Lucy thought the idea of Kohta and herself romantically involved was too crazy to believe. ''Yer joking right? Kohta interested in me? Do you honestly listen to words coming out of your mouth? Him and me together? That's crazy.''
After telling his pink haired friend to not sell herself too short she went right back around saying or insinuating she wasn't meant for love. ''Huh but why? I'm sure plenty of guys would love to spend their life with you.''
"Patamon boys only like beautiful girls not ones like me." The tall pinkette said glumly looking at the dusty sidewalk.
Her orange partner took her into a loving embrace. "You are a very beautiful girl Lucy I don't see why a boy or any boy wouldn't want to spend his life with you. Besides didn't Kohta say awhile back he hated seeing pretty girls cry. Please think it over.'' He added gently.
All of a sudden Jiro started sniffing the ground then took a few whiffs from the air. He made a slight whine and then Lucy heard footsteps coming from the nearby street corner just out of sight. Even more bizarrely Jiro started growling, something he never did to anyone. This got Lucy's attention, something wasn't right about that street corner. ''Huh? What is it boy? What's out there?'' She asked timidly.
From around the street corner were a few voices getting closer at every second passing by. ''Yeah that was a fun one.'' The first voice said making her blood run cold.
''Almost as fun as that bag you set on fire and the guy stomped it out!'' The next familiar voice joked.
''And he realized what it was. Poo!'' The third and final voice joked.
''Wait I know those voices... " Lucy said recognizing the voices who made her early childhood a living nightmare back at the orphanage.
Spinning around on her heels the rosette glared at her old childhood enemies Tomoo, Azukio, and Tasuma. Her usually stern face turned into a very foul looking frown. The canine's teeth were bared knowing their distinctive foul scent. The ones who tried to beat him a vase years ago. He growled even more as the three stopped just in front of him. Jiro did not like these punks not one bit and he barked at them telling them ''Go away!''. Frankly Tomoo couldn't figure out why the mutt hated seeing him. ''Wow there Kujo! Easy killer!''
The smart mouthed Azukio had a few words for this angry mutt. "Back off Lassie!''
Even Tasuma thought the mongrel needed obedience lessons for barking so much at strangers. This girl frankly didn't train it very well. ''Hey girlie ya put yer mutt on a leash. Or a muzzle. He might give someone rabies!''
Ever the smug jerk Tomoo now poked fun at her hair. She was lucky her large hat was on or they'd see her horns. Then it'd be like her youth all over again. "What's with the neon pink hair dye? Ya some kind of wannabe punk rocker or something?''
Squinting a little Azukio blinked a few times struggling to pin a name on the brunette's face. Just where had he seen before? ''Azukio don't take this wrong but she kinda looks familiar back in days when we were kids. And kinda nice looking.''
Soon Tomoo however checked out the frankly attractive strange girl. She looked just vaguely familiar enough to jump start his mind. ''Nah Azukio no girl we knew back then was this hot. Impossible.''
''You idiots really don't remember me do you?'' Lucy hissed to them.
It figures they'd forget all about making her life a living nightmare when she was a kid. Bullies like them loved to push a victims buttons but never cared to remember their names. The three just stared at her trying put a name to her face. Who was this girl walking her dog? An angry dog too. The trio of dimwits frankly couldn't remember this girl especially Tomoo of all people. "Sorry toots got nothing.''
Seeing the three were same bunch of jerks they'd always had been Lucy was especially irked by the fact they called her ''Toots'' like she was some generic nobody. In all the years that went by they still had no shred of manners. "Toots? Ya gonna ignore me like I'm not here or ya keep flapping yer gums? Or talk to me like a lady?''
''Well what do ya want us to call you then?'' Tomoo sassed her.
''Yeah what then?'' Azukio asked next.
''Yeah what?'' Tasuma parroted Azukio.
Ripping off the hat she wore the three knew in an instant just who they were badmouthing. The freaky horned girl all those years ago and the angel monster who showed up helping. "Its the freak!'' Tomoo shouted pointing at her now in a mad mood.
When Lucy left the three were sent to a therapist who kept telling they saw an angel monster whisk her away. But no one believed them. For years everyone thought they were crazy but now they had proof they weren't nuts. Seeing how the time was ripe to spook the pants off them Patamon reared his orange head. "Hey boys. Remember me? Ol' Patamon?''
Their blood ran cold as Azukio & Tasuma jumped behind Tomoo and grabbed each other in a scared bear hug. The kind you do when you're about to meet your maker that is. ''AHHH!''
''Its the angel monster!'' Tomoo yelled out now scared out of his wits.
Giving the trio a menacing glare Patamon sized them up. ''Yup me. BOO!'' Patamon half yelled.
''AHHHHHHHHH!'' They screamed and ran as far from Patamon and as fast as their legs could carry them.
''Still got it.'' Patamon said with smirk plastered upon his smug face.
''Patamon that was outright devious. I like it.'' Lucy said giving her monster friend a sly smile of approval. "Anyways lets go home we have food to get on the table.''
With an affirmative grunt Patamon figured that was the next thing on the to-do list. Little did the girl know it but she was being watched a shadowy figure from a nearby alley. Soon she would find out who it was.
-Inn
Once Lucy returned things were business as usual. Or as normal as life could get when it involved Digimon that is. However the residents didn't realize it at the time but the status quo at the Inn were about to be flipped upside down. A woman about in her 30's clad in a simple white blouse and beige khaki's gazed longingly at the front doors. Her deep brown eyes and dark brown hair were placed on a very kindly looking face. A mole was below her left eye. "Finally I've found you my dear sweet Kaede. Its been far too long." She said softly to herself.
Knocking on the door of the Inn Yuka heard a reply from a older teen woman's voice inside. "Door's open come on in. Take a seat I'll be right with you."
Opening the said door the woman stepped inside. She felt a homely like feeling when she sat herself at the kitchen table. She was greeted by a college aged girl with dark brown hair, Yuka frankly. "Uh this is the Maple Inn right?" The strange woman asked first.
"Yes it is, by the way I'm Yuka. But how can we help you Miss uh... ?" Yuka tried to say but the woman cut her off.
Finally though the woman realized just how rude she was being... in that she'd forgotten to even introduce herself. She'd come for an important reason so she might as well get straight to the point. "Miss Horoki. Mimi Horoki is my name. I meant my name is Mimi Horoki.''
Looking over the available rooms Yuka saw none were open. That and the fact the Digimon were staying there too was a fact she didn't want strangers to find out about. No matter how nice. "So it seems we're full up on guests. Can I get you a reservation instead? I think we'll be empty next year."
Shaking her head no a room wasn't on Miss Horoki's things to do. "No my problem isn't that dear... how do I say this err well I'll just have to be blunt I'm here for my daughter Kaede." Miss Horoki explained which only made Yuka further confused.
"Kaede? Kaede. Kaede. Nope no one with that name staying here. One question though, who's Kaede?" The young college girl admitted being hopelessly lost. She'd never heard of anybody going by that name anywhere.
Clearing her throat Miss Horoki explained just who she was referring to. And the truth shocked Yuka to the deepest depths of her heart. "Yuka was it? I believe you know her as Lucy. Please before you judge me for supposedly abandoning her all that time ago let me tell you something very important here. I never wanted to give her up. Back then I was young and foolish, when Kaede was born we were separated and the government threatened on me if I didn't keep her birth information top secret. A long time has gone by and now I don't care anymore about the consequences I just want to see my child. Please I need to see her. By the time I was courageous enough to search her I heard she disappeared after some sort of attack on her orphanage. I tried to find out any other details no matter how small but I still came up with nothing. When I heard about the monster sightings and attacks going on here I believed they might've been connected. I had to try one last time and luck paid off finally. Yuka I need to tell her how sorry I am and why she was put in that horrible place."
After hearing all this Yuka was beyond rattled in fact she was in shock. While she was very suspicious of Mimi but instinct told Mimi Horoki was telling the truth and she never meant to abandon her only flesh and blood. However in a day and age where things like this happened everyday Yuka wanted undisputed proof. "Uh um... I think I could get her. She and the gang are out in the back yard. Look Mimi Lucy err I meant Kaede might not even wanna listen to you. For a kid heck any kid to be thrown away by your parents isn't something you can forgive just by snapping your fingers. Not to be rude or anything but where's her father?"
"Shortly after I was pregnant the younger Kakuzawa made him ''disappear''. I never found any more information about what happened to him. I wanted to keep me quiet but right now I don't care anymore." Mimi confessed as her voice became a bit sad. The Inn caretaker saw she clearly missed her daughter after all this time.

Soon after getting Lucy back inside Yuka had something very important to share with her. It didn't take long for her to take notice of Miss Horoki so Yuka figured she might as well get to explaining just what was going on. Only Lucy cut her off before she could do it. "So who's this Yuka another new client? Look woman we're busy right now. Y'know full up. No vacancies. So head somewhere else."
"Luce I don't have any easy to tell you this. But this woman Mimi Horoki is... well... Well she says she's your mother." Yuka explained clearly dropping a bombshell which cued the pink haired girl's look of utter shock. She narrowed her gaze upon her supposed lost parent and all of her old emotional wounds from her youth suddenly reopened. Lucy wanted this Horoki woman out of her life. She never gave a crap about her much less tried to search and find her so why now all of a sudden?
Seeing just how angry her roommate was getting Yuka tried to calm the tense situation down a peg. "Look Yuka is telling the truth... Kaede I've found you at last. I can't tell you long its been... " Miss Horoki started to say as she attempted to take hold of her long lost daughter's bespectacled face only she swatted the gentle hand away in fury.
Gently and cautiously Miss Horoki again reached out her hand touching her daughter's shoulder. Only she saw her face swollen with tears, the side of her face red from her built up anger. Lucy slash Kaede kept up her glare upon her mother and replied in a cold toned voice. "Don't. You. Touch. Me.''
In a fit of extreme blinded rage, Lucy quickly smacked Mimi's hand off of his shoulder and continued glaring at her absentee parent. Seething in anger the pink haired girl then yelled something she thought that wouldn't ever come out of her mouth if she ever met her parents. "I HATE YOU!"
Silence filled the hallway. The fact Lucy flew off the handle alerted Patamon whose ears were very attuned to her being in distress. He zoomed into the room in panic hoping his friend wasn't hurt. "Lucy! What's the matter! What happened?!'' He spouted off.
Quickly Yuka whispered to him what she'd just been told. ''Say what!?'' Was all he could say in shock.
Lucy aka Kaede just gave her so-called ''mother'' an evil death glare. ''Good now you've found me now get out and leave me alone! I'm not some sad little girl crying for mommy and daddy anymore!''
''Kaede please try to understand... " Mimi tried to say reaching out to her long-lost child only for Kaede/Lucy to swat her hand away again.
"I don't want to understand... " The pinkette hissed back in a cold tone of voice. "Leave me alone I don't want to hear your pathetic excuses for dumping me off like yesterday's garbage!'' The horned lass shouted.
It was clear the teen girl was very angry at her absent parent for ignoring her all these years. The pinkette had good reason to be that way. Her mom literally just appeared from out of the blue wanting to patch things up. To Patamon though peace needed made not a war. Again Mimi tried to reason with her child. ''Kaede please listen. I never ever wanted to give you up! You were all the world to me... '' Miss Horoki tried to say but the pinkette refused to listen to her pleas.
''Get it through your iron plated skull I don't wanna listen!'' Lucy snarled shoving the poor woman up against the wall shocking her monster partner comrades.
"Lucy sit and listen to your mother! I want to hear what she has to say!" Patamon hollered out at his friend in an act completely out of her character.
''No. Get out... Get out of this house! NOW!'' Lucy roared out grabbing her mother by her clothes via vectors and literally threw her out of the building.
As a distressed Mimi Horoki sniffled at how her reunion went so terribly wrong she glumly walked off taking one last glance at her child, who didn't want to see or have anything to do with her. Said child simply glared at her. As she vanished from sight Lucy plopped herself down on a nearby couch lost in thought and in a most foul mood. But the worst thing about the whole matter was Patamon. He was livid with his friend for being so callous and cruel. All her mother ever wanted was to made amends for all the years she wasn't there. Her mother searched the ends of the earth for her but Patamon's partner only to be turned away. ''Lucy please I really think you should listen to her. I think she's telling the truth." Only Lucy gave the orange monster a glare which meant 'quiet'.
Glaring right back at her Patamon decided now she needed some serious talking to. ''I'm serious Lucy. You wanted closure and now ya don't. The woman did what you wanted but you're still pulling a major attitude.''
''I... She... '' Lucy stammered trying to defend her actions but couldn't. In fact she was failing at it.
In truth Lucy did always want to meet her birth parents but as years went by and nothing happened she grew jaded and began to fester a hate for her family. Or lack of them that is. She let out a sigh. "Ahhh you're right Patamon I shouldn't have flew off the handle like that. That's not me... I gotta find her and try to fix this.''
Strapping on her gloves Patamon flew out the door and higher up into the sky. ''I'll go on ahead and get a birds eyes view. You go on foot.''
''Roger.'' Lucy said following right after him. As you'd expect Jiro tagged along too. To help.
As the two searched high and low they found their way nearby to the courtyard only still nothing. Until Patamon took a quick sniff. Mimi had a certain perfume on that whose scent molecules were still floating about. That meant she had been there pretty recently. Otherwise the scent would've dissipated. "Luce I got something! Follow me this way!'' He called from the air and zoomed in the direction the scent drifted from.
As Lucy raced after her partner she suddenly heard a loud blood curdling scream from a nearby darkened alley. She along with Patamon reunited just as they saw Lucy's missing parent cornered by several minions of the Network. By several that meant a Keramon, three Chrysalimon, two Phascomon, five Tsumemon, and four Gazimon. The woman was terrified the creatures had her trapped like a rat in a trap.
"You monsters stay away from me! What did I ever do to you huh!?'' She cried out in terror as a Chrysalimon ensnared her in its tentacles.
One of the Keramon though looked her right square in the eyes with a grin that would make any slasher villain proud. "Simple we've come for your daughter Mimi. Tsumemon activate a port and get us out of here."
The claw-like beast created the needed escape portal as the group made their escape with Mimi dragged along. Before Keramon and the Tsumemon departed they offered their ultimatum to Lucy and Patamon. ''Ok here's the deal kiddies. You meet us at the warehousing district in one hour. Once there you surrender to the Network. Do that you get mommy back.''
''If ya don't well then... We're gonna fry her up and serve her with chips and tartar sauce! Dahahahah!'' The Tsumemon added giggling like a crazed maniac.
And then the portal closed leaving the Diclonius, Digimon, and dog to stew over what had just happened then. Balling up a fist Lucy slugged the alley wall in a fit of rage. A sizable crater left after she took out her fist. Tears dripped down along her cheeks and hit the ground. "I"m an idiot... '' She mumbled under her muffled sniffling.
Her canine companion could hear her sobbing and he whined licking her hand hoping to cheer up. Didn't work as she was still angry at herself. Her own flesh and blood wanted to fix things but in her stubborn rage threw her out the door. Demanding she leave. "I'm no better than Tomoo and his flunkies... No better than them... '' She added still sniffling.
Not happy with his friend badmouthing herself for this blunder Patamon smacked Lucy upside her head with his wing/ear knocking a little sense into her. ''Lucy we have to find that warehouse. Check every one.''
''What makes you think they'll keep their word huh?! They work for the Network! They're bad guys. Lying is their hobby!" Lucy argued knowing just how cruel the network could be. They wouldn't hesitate to get rid of her mother if it was enough to devastate her morale. "She was my mother... All she wanted to do was be with me. All I did was ignore her. I only ended up pushing her away... "
''I can't blame you for how you how you feel. But we have to make this right.'' Patamon instructed.
In short he was like her extra conscience chiming in whenever she needed a push in the proper direction. Now was just such a time. Lucy needed to stop moping and get ready for a throwdown. Or in better terms a fight. ''Lucy you got no choice but to fight them. You have to fix this.''
''No Patamon we're going to fix this this. I've had just about enough of these jokers. Its time we stop playing around and teach them who they're messing with! You with me!?'' Lucy said tightening her gloves and cracking her knuckles.
''Yeah. Let's get 'em!'' Patamon said cracking his knuckles too.
-warehousing district
By the time the three found the right warehouse and quietly opened the gated metallic doors it was getting dark and cloudy. It was dark inside too as the three cautiously listened, sniffed, or looked around for any possible clue the teenage girl's mother was there. Patamon took a sniff. He gave the thumbs up in that she was here. Her dog Jiro suddenly started growling after smelling whatever odor Patamon had. Something was here waiting for them. And it had Viral Kaiser Network written all over it.
-begin Break Out by Kow Otani
Outside a thunderstorm swiftly started up as rain poured in bucket outside while thunder boomed and lightning flashed. An intercom came on after some initial static. To Lucy's horror it was Keramon. ''What's the matter Lucy? No witty one-liners? No threat? Then I'll provide a narration. I'll begin by how looked into the many layers of the woman's mind. Though bravely hesitant at first, but all too soon my 'intense' interrogation methods took their toll, and the dear lady began to share such secrets with me. Secrets that are mine alone to know, Kaede Horoki. Its true kiddo I know everything about you. And just like a little human who peeks at the presents under the Christmas tree I admit I'm pretty disappointed. Its very anticlimactic. Behind all the stern coats, the DigiVice, you're just a little girl in a play suit crying for mommy and daddy. It'd be funny if it wasn't pathetic... Ah what the heck I'll laugh like a maniac anyways. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHH!'' Keramon laughed like a maniac.
Picking up a old worn wrench Lucy chucked it at something vaguely shiny in the corner. The wench smashed into a large glass window. The warehouse's office. Keramon was there laughing like a madman to which she leaped inside. In rage Lucy backhanded the evil maniac by his face followed by a hefty punch to his gut and grabbed by his neck. Naturally the Network minion wasn't scared instead cracking a few cheesy one-liners. "If you don't like the trip down memory lane I'd offer photo souvenirs.''
With even more rage the girl threw Keramon right the office's other window and into a stairwell. Stunned he found his enemy had pounced on him grabbing him by neck again. To say Lucy was angry was big understatement. Cracking her knuckles Lucy growled at the evil monster for threatening her family. "I'll break you in two Keramon.''
Now laughing again like a crazed lunatic Keramon rubbed still more salt in Lucy emotional wounds. ''Dahahahah! Oh Kaede if you and the Trinity had the guts for that kind of fun you would've done it years ago. I on the other hand play for keeps. Ok boys the party's started. Let the fun begin!''
As if on cue ceiling lights flipped on as a tied up and gagged Mimi Horoki was hung over a large assortment of sharpened metal prongs. If the rope was cut she'd meet a very pointed end. Keramon's cronies revealed themselves as it seemed they would fight dirty. "I'm gonna tell you this only once Keramon. Let my mom go. NOW.'' Lucy ordered him glaring into his evil eyes.
One of the Chrysalimon however didn't understand why the DigiDestined wanted her parent back so much. Especially since she literally threw her out of the house. ''Really? You treated her just like most of the meat-germs treated you! What makes you any better?" The evil chrysalis based Digimon growled out in response.
Prepared as always Lucy had this comeback. "Simple I was wrong. Here's the line... " Lucy pointed at her mother.
"And you just crossed it!" Patamon finished.
-begin Stargazer by Blood Stain Child
Not wanting to hear the duo's heroic babbling any long Keramon pointed his troops to go on the attack. ''Execute them!'' The enraged Keramon roared out.
Taking a glance at Patamon Lucy knew it was time to get to work. "Execute! Champion Level Digivolve!''
"Patamon digivolve to... ANGEMON!" Angemon called out twirling his Angel Staff readying for battle.
One of the Chrysalimon zoomed forward at Angemon intending to rip and tear him apart with its tentacles. Only the angel countered by grabbing all six of them in his gloved hand. Yanking on the tendrils Angemon got ready to finish his foe. ''First date! No tentacles! Hand of Fate!''
The powerful fist of energy obliterated Chrysalimon in one foul swoop. Or punch actually. Another of the chrysalis based monsters swooped down to attack the girl's dog swiping a tendril at him.
Managing to jump back Jiro barked and growled at the offending virus monster. Lucy was his master and no one hurt her and got away with it. Seeing this act now made Lucy angry. "Now I'm mad. No one takes a swipe at my dog. Double Star Slice!'' She called out as her gloves generated then throwing two gigantic shuriken at the enemy Chrysalimon.
The first star sliced through his tendrils then sliced through him s the other star cut him through his head. He fell apart as his remains reverted back into data code. Creating a Digiport Keramon flunkies Tsumemon, Phascomon and the Gazimon deserted him. It seemed there was only one choice left for him. "You cowards! Go on run! All the better glory for me! Keramon Digivolve to... CHRYSALIMON!'' Keramon now Digivolved into another Chrysalimon yelled out ready to fight.
''Heheheh! Well now finish this my dear. Any last words? A speech maybe. Heheheheh!'' Chrysalimon snickered in sadistic enjoyment.
Gesturing at him to come get her since words were the last thing on her mind right then. There was only actions now. With high speed Chrysalimon zoomed straight for Lucy with tentacles fully outstretched ready to strike only before he could attack he was hit hard right in his armored head. Something grabbed it and shoved him into the far wall. ''What are you doing!?'' He growled in an angry mood.
No one would deny him revenge! No one! Not even a pathetic little Diclonius girl! "Let me guess yer thinking how'd I'd garb you and throw you into this wall? Right? Vectors.'' Lucy said pointing at her active but invisible limbs sprouting from her cranium.
Vaguely the Network minion could see them but only barely. Still he had other fighting options at his disposal. ''Well done little girl but still not enough to stop me.''
He shot pout his tentacles again only he felt them grabbed and held down. The girl had him tied up! "Huh? No!'' The evil chrysalis gasped at seeing his flailing tentacles grabbed by the girl's powerful hand assisted by her vector use.
"Sorry but you ain't going anywhere!'' Lucy glared at him with her red hued eyes.
Smirking at him with her free hand she slugged him hard upside his armored head. ''That one's for kidnapping my mom!'' Without missing a beat she slugged him again in his gut. ''This is because I don't like you!" She growled giving him an even heavier punch to his head leaving him dazed. ''And this is just because!''
By now she let go of him after the third punch. ''OOHH!" He grunted out in pain as he was sent flying across the warehouse floor and landed with a thud.
He noticed a small rusted gear near his tentacle range. He snagged it and threw it like a makeshift throwing star. It zoomed and sliced right through the rope holding Lucy's mother which sent her plummeting to her impaling end.
Never one to let evil get away with cruelty Angemon unleashed his Hand of Fate on Chrysalimon. ''Hand of Fate!''
The blast engulfed the Network minion defeating once and for all. ''DAHHHH!''
Taking flight Angemon caught the woman before she met her spiky end. Swiftly he landed and tore off her ropes. ''Are you alright Miss Horoki?" Angemon asked gently setting her back on her feet.
In awe of the angel based beast who saved her and teamed up with her daughter Miss Horoki was in a state of wonder. She nodded lightly in agreement. "When I hoped there would be a guardian angel looking out for my daughter I didn't expect... an actual angel.''
The overall appearance to Miss Horoki of Angemon was awe inspiring. His long golden blonde hair fluttered in the wind like a royal lion mane. His six wings with their feathery tips allowed his extreme maneuverability in flight. And his rich blue sash completed his look of grandeur. "I have that effect on people... '' Angemon admitted. Then he resumed his form as Patamon again.
By now the horned lass mother wanted answers about this whole mess. Her soft expression meant she was far from angry at her daughter. She just wanted the whole truth. ''Honey... I... I still don't know just what is this all about? Care to explain? Leave no detail out.''
And so Lucy and Patamon went to explain just what had happened when they first met. How some bullies were going to kill her puppy to make her miserable. How Patamon helped and she traveled to the Digital World with him living there for over ten years honing her was a data based dimension created unknowingly as a by-product of humans electronics, communications, radio, and computer was inhabited by data based life called Digimon or Digital Monsters. Eventually the time had come to return to the human realm to form a team of chosen warriors to fight the Kaiser Viral Network. Called DigiDestined they were the only hope against the Network. If they failed humans, Diclonii, and innocent Digimon would suffer and enslaved by the cruel Network.
After finding out just where her mother had rented a motel room at Lucy followed her wanting to get to know her parent for the first real time in her life. As they walked up the stair to her motel room Mimi was getting anxious for reasons unknown. She nervously gazed at the door. "Uh mom what's the problem? Heh lost yer key?'' She joked.
Nervously glancing at the door she seemed unsure how to answer. She pulled out the room key so just what was going on? Must be something big. ''Before we go inside there's something important you have to know about... '' She started to say but her daughter cut her off right then and there.
''Whatever it is. Save it. I'm tired. Cranky. And I'm dirty. It can wait mom.'' She grumbled unlocking the door and throwing it open.
A short pink haired blur zoomed right at her. What it said was shocking. "Sister!" The figure said excited as could be.
"Huh?! What the... OOOF!" Lucy said barely in the room as a redheaded blur half tackled half hugged onto the floor.
His blue eyes half popping out his sockets Patamon was in just as a big state of shock as his Diclonius friend gave Lucy's mother a suspicious glare. The type that meant ''explain this quick like a bunny''. "Ok explain this one please Miss Horoki? So who the heck is he?''
By this point Patamon noticed the boy had horns on his head, just like Lucy's. That meant one thing and one thing only. He was a Diclonius. But the orange Rookie knew all were locked away except Lucy, Mariko, and Nana. So just who was this kid? "Well who is this kid?'' Lucy questioned her parent.
Blushing in the fact she made a silly mistake at not explaining who the young boy was earlier. "Oh this is... Well he's your... He's your brother Kaede."
''My brother? I have a brother?'' She said hopelessly lost looking intently at her previously unknown baby brother.
In bewilderment Lucy gazed into his cheery scarlet eyes. There was a light of dare she call it, innocence in them. Like he'd never dealt with any hardship whatsoever in his life. He seemed genuinely happy to finally meet her, but where did he come from? This was a very refreshing turn of events in Patamon's mind. It would be something he'd have to royally milk for all it was worth for awhile. ''Guess ya get to be a big sister and a nanny, eh Luce?'' Patamon said giving his partner a sly looking glance.
The two youngster's mother wondered just what the nanny comment meant but figured she'd leave it alone for now. The guff Lucy was getting from Patamon had her glare at him in return. She instead ignored him and asked the obvious question as her brother continued his bear hug on her. ''So what's his name?''
Now being put on the spot right then Miss Horoki was dumbfounded. ''Eh well honey, he kinda of a... he doesn't actually have one. A name I mean.'' Her mother quietly confessed.
''What? Did you have him in the Twilight Zone or something? He has to have a name. Everyone does." Lucy sputtered hardly even believing her ears.
Her newly discovered sibling had no name at all? Impossible. And frankly completely unbelievable. Putting on his figurative thinking cap Patamon had an idea. ''I got a name Lucy. What about Conner? From Superboy's secret identity? Y'know from Alex's Justice League comics.'' Patamon said giving a surprising suggestion for him ''official'' name.
''Well I guess it'll work. I can't think of anything that would suit him.'' Lucy huffed.
''Yay! I got a name!" Conner cheering excitedly.
"That's settled but the Kakuzawa's may be gone but there's plenty of goons they could hire to capture us. We can't stay here too long. Guess this is goodbye again.'' Miss Horoki sadly admitted seeing they'd have to get up and leave soon. So her enemies didn't capture the two.
But Conner wouldn't have any of that. His eyes welled up with tears. He tightly hugged his big sister never wanting her to leave him. Ever. "No! Don't go sister! Mommy don't make us leave!''
Seeing she was right Lucy still was a smart one. There was one place they could go and be safe from the institute. ''I know... If you stay they're gonna dog you two until they see you dead. I won't let my family get hurt. Ever. There's one place you can be safe."
''Where? Timbuktu, frankly young lady I don't speak any other languages except German or Italian." Their mother asked confused not knowing the first place they could run to. A foreign country certainly wasn't her first idea.
Now it was Patamon's turn to explain. ''No. The Digital World where I come from. You can hide out there. In fact I bet Swanmon will let you work at the Asuka Inn.''
Still not quite up to date on the whole Digimon crisis Mimi Horoki has reservations about hiding where the monsters lived. ''Uh but I'm sure a random Buddhist temple could offer sanctuary... " Miss Horoki started to say but was silenced by a wave of her daughter's hand.
Her older child held her by the shoulders looking her straight in the eye. There was a serious look in them. It meant Kaede err Lucy knew exactly what she was doing right then. She needed her mother and baby brother to trust her judgement. ''I almost lost you once. I'm not losing you again.''
She bent down gazing into the red eyes of her brother. "And I'm not leaving you. You're my brother. My only brother. Conner you can always count on me no matter what. DigiPort open.''
Pressing a button combo Lucy opened up the portal so she could hide her kin away from the institute goons. The large swirling vortex intimidated her mother & sibling. Gesturing it was safe Lucy led them both into the rift.
-Primary Village
The portal opened up right next to the entrance of Primary Village where Asuka Inn lay just ahead. While Lucy wasn't impressed by the locale her mother and little brother were in awe of this place. This whole place where everything including water, dirt, plants, buildings, and what not were made from digital computing code. It was remarkable to the older woman to say the least. ''Remarkable... '' She uttered as her son was awestruck by the likes of Centarumon sparring with the fire-based Meramon.
He wanted a closer look but his mother just dragged him along. "Ah mom I wanted a closer look!'' He complained.
"So this whole place is based off computing code?'' She said hardly believing it herself despite seeing it in plain view.
"Its so cool." Conner piped up.
Soon the trio made their way at the Asuka Inn and knocking a few times on the door which opened to reveal a large white bird based Digimon. Naturally Lucy and Patamon were happy to see her. ''Swanmon we're back again! Got more guests.''
The avian based monster wasn't sure what to make of the young girl's traveling companions. ''Oh um welcome dearies... Oh you brought a different kind of guest." She gestured at the adult woman and a young boy.
"Ahh long story I'll try to explain as best I can. I'll help whip up some caramel and molasses pancakes.'' Lucy said making herself useful at getting the needed ingredients.
Taking the pancake mix out from the cupboard, caramel syrup, and molasses, and the needed water in a mixing bowel. After enough stirring enough Conner's sister poured the batter on the hot griddle and eventually started cooking. After getting cooked to a proper gold hued brown on the bottom so with encouragement Patamon helped Conner flip them over to cook to cook the other side. ''There not so hard kiddo.'' Patamon said taking a liking to his partner's brother.
While the pancakes were being cooked Swanmon was asked by Lucy to let her mother & brother stay there in exchange for a few chores. Like maintenance for example.
Doing a few chores in a nearby room was of all Digimon, Terriermon. He was getting an earful from Lucy at the moment. She wanted someone besides her mother to watch out for him and set a good example since she'd be unavailable for some time. ''Now Terriermon to keep him out of trouble I'm trusting you keep an eye on him. Watch out for him. Understand? Or else I'll tie up yer ears into a bow. Got me?'' She said making sure her threat told him she was dead serious.
Though he trusted Lucy she could be pretty scary when she felt like it. This was one of those times. ''Yes ma'am. Crystal clear." He then gulped.
''Conner come here. I want you to meet someone.'' Lucy called out as her brother sped around the corner a stopped just short of running her over. ''Excited much? Look this is Terriermon he'll be your companion here. Its his job to look out for you since I can't. Go on shake his paw.''
The white creature put out his small paw for the boy to shake like civilized folk do. He did so by rapidly shaking his paw. "Yay my own Digimon!'' Conner bear hugged the poor Rookie who glared at Lucy for putting him in this crazy situation.
The two ran back around the corner of the hallway when a loud crash was heard. "CONNER! That was a priceless vase! Now its trash! Come back here!'' Swanmon yelled at him.
"Kaede err Lucy I don't get me wrong I love him dearly. But sometimes I think he's the devil.'' The older woman confessed from the table about Conner's propensity for pranks and mischief.
''Meh takes one to know one.'' Patamon thought smirking knowing Lucy could pull the same kind of childish pranks her brother did. He whispered a tidbit of info to her mother's ear. ''Well she tried the same thing. Just so ya know.''
"Yup she's a chip off the old block alright." Mimi Horoki thought to herself.
With some quick goodbyes Lucy hugged her mother and brother and with her DigVice created another portal and gave the two a wave of goodbye. Though her mother was living in a data based dimension at least she was safe along with her son. And her daughter had turned out just fine as far as she was concerned. A second crash was heard. Sighing then rolling her eyes she yelled out at her son. "Conner get over here right now!''

Well how was this new update? And yes the scene at the warehouse with Keramon was based heavily off the Joker from Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. Keramon's name itself comes from Kerakera, the sound of cackling laughter. Sounds like something very fitting of the Joker to me. But what do you all think?
I needed to update something of mine or I'd go crazy. Not to mention my loyal readers think Power Rangers Dimension Legends is dead. Its not. Writer's block and life issues have hampered my writing. But I figured I'd get off my lazy behind and finish this chapter up. Plus spring is in full swing is winding up so I hope I can post more story updates. To all those who work under Hasbro I make no money off this fanfiction story so its counterproductive to try suing me. I don't have any money to shell out. I write this only because I loved Digimon back in its heyday.
Please read and review this and my other stories which range from: Yokohama Night Monsters, Diclonius Goddess of Steel, Power Rangers Dimension Legends, ELG The Series, EL Digital Saviors, Cybertronian Invasion, and Maverick Hunter KLN to satisfy your craving for bizarre crossovers. This has been TURP "The Crossover Writer" and now slightly less insane phasing out people⦠later.
