"Rainbow! There's a call coming through from the galactic capital. It's the great Mage himself!" Canary said.

"Really? I haven't heard from him in almost a century!" Rainbow quickly sat down at the console and greeted the revered elder. "Mage! What is it?"

"I understand you know the young orphan of Spectra — the lone boy who has been guarding the diamond planet since his people fled."

"Do you mean Krys? Of course I know him! He's just arrived in Rainbow Land for his summer holiday! Do you want to speak with him?"

"In time I may meet him. For now, I ask only for your intelligence, Rainbow Brite."

"On what?"

"The boy. Your thoughts, observations and insights.

"Why?"

"The galactic council is keen to appoint an official overseer of Spectra. They don't want to risk the diamond planet being hijacked again! There is talk of sending a military commander to take the role."

"Oh no, Mage! That would be a disaster! Don't they realise how much that would upset the sprites? Surely Krys can learn to manage them and send reports to the capital if that's so necessary."

"There are many who don't believe that one so young should be entrusted with the level of responsibility that Spectra holds in the universe."

"Orin believed in him."

"And where is Orin now? No one knows. Which is why I need your help. I trust your judgement of character, Rainbow Brite. This is important. The fate of the universe could well be at stake. I wish I could advise you to think long and carefully, but the galactic council may not be willing to wait for long. Expect to hear from me again soon."
