Those Obnoxious Ghosts

Chapter 18: What now?

A few days had passed since that disastrous night and Rei's challenge, as well as Danny finally telling Lum off.

The ghost boy hadn't seen or heard from her, Ten or Rei since then and he hoped that it would stay that way. Since Lum wasn't hovering by his side, Rei seemed to have lost interest in picking a fight with him, much to his relief.

He had enough of that creep and his ex-girlfriend to last both a lifetime and his after-lifetime as well.

He did recall the tears in her eyes. Sure, maybe some would say that he might have been a little too harsh with what he said to her but he felt that he was justified in his words and actions, which his sister, Tucker and Sam agreed with him.

"I just hope she's back on her home world already..."He thought, not wanting to run into her again.

However, he knew better than to tempt fate. It, or Clockwork, has a habit of ruining his plans.

Suddenly, the ghost boy's moments of peace was interrupted when his ghost sense went off. He could hear the sounds of crashing and the people screaming in terror.

"Looks like things are back to...my version of normal..."He thought as he ran into an alley and quickly morphed.

He soon took off to fight the source of that disturbance, ready to kick it's butt and take frustrations out on it, frustrations that weren't completely gone yet.

He saw it was a large ghostly bull with its head on fire. He smirked as he focused his efforts on the latest ghostly problem.

"Finally, something to take my issues out on!..."The ghost boy thought as he flew in, just trying to go back to his pre-Lum life.

And he did it all with a smile, believing that things were back on track.

He did not realize yet how was wrong he was, especially now as a certain alien girl was still a lot closer than he thought.

Meanwhile

With Lum

The alien princess was a depressed mess in her UFO, but she hasn't left Earth's atmosphere yet.

No, in fact... she hasn't left her room in days since...her spat with Danny.

It was so frustrating, but she wouldn't leave.

She had no intentions of going back home, but she was unable to return to Earth. She was hesitant due to what happened between her and Danny and the alien princess did what she usually did when she was upset.

She moped and acted like everyone else was in the wrong...as she cried her eyes out.

"How could Darling say all those cruel things to me?! Does he actually hate me? Why? I just told a little fib and I just wanted us to have a baby! How is that so wrong?!..."Lum bawled into her pillow, acting more childish than Ten.

Her cousin, Ten, tried to calm her down and pat her back as he tried to make things better with his words.

"Lum...look...Danny is a good guy, but you need to know that...maybe he has a point. I mean...maybe you did come off a little strong..."Ten said, wanting to cheer her up but also wanting to defend Danny a bit.

His cousin went from bawling to glaring at him, making him pull back in shock. She didn't like what he was insinuating about really happened and started to turn on him for it.

"How could you say that?! He had the nerve to strike me and say such rude, hurtful things to me... and then order me off the planet!..."Lum yelled.

"But you kept hitting him when he didn't do what you wanted, even when he it was clear he didn't like it..."Ten pointed out, while his cousin huffed.

"He made me mad, but then he adapted and blocked my shots..."Lum said, still not seeing herself in the wrong.

She then turned her head away and pouted.

"I didn't even know he was that upset or that such a thing was possible. He should've shown restraint..."She said, still a little shaken up from remembering how Danny yelled and glared at her when they last spoke.

Her little cousin, however, reminded her another reason she can't go back.

"Well... even if you went back, he's too use to how you fight... as in, not at all. Without being able to shock him, he won't bow to your whims anymore. I think you're outmatched here..." Ten pointed out.

"Regardless, I won't give up until he sees reason. I gotta find a way to make him love me and reconsider breaking off our engagement..."Lum said, trying to be clever as she tried to find a way to "patch things up" with her beloved.

"But Danny says he never proposed to you to start with..."Ten pointed out.

"Accident or not, it still happened and I know for certain that Danny is the one and only match for me..."Lum barked, being stubborn as she wanted no one else but him.

"B-But he doesn't want to be married to you..." Ten stated.

"Ten, you're young and you don't understand but marriage is sacred to our people. I cannot return home without a husband to call my own!..."Lum said, sounding desperate and worried how thing will affect her reputation.

"That failed engagement with Rei is bad enough, but if I return home with two failed relationships, I'll be a laughing stock and end up disgracing our family's proud name across the galaxy!..."Lum said, looking bitter and terrified of that fate befalling her.

She also had another reason why she didn't want to go through that, a stronger reason that she misinterprets as something good. She mistook a childish crush with love, and that always leads to more trouble.

"Not only that, but I love Darling and I wanna be with him forever!..."She said, bawling once more.

"But Danny says that he doesn't feel that way about you. He said that he never wants to see you again..."Ten said, only for her to through a pillow at him.

"What does he know? Men usually never get it and speak without thinking and whenever they do think, it's with there stomachs!..."Lum said, arms crossed.

Ten sweat-dropped upon hearing this.

"I'm a man too, ya know..."He said, but his cousin wasn't listening, still trying to state her case.

"Mother said that Father was really thick-headed when they first met and she managed to win his heart and marry him. She said that all she had to be is flutter her eyes, stay persistent, keep him away from any rivals and then giving him a feast and she had him on his knees begging her to marry him. I can repeat that..."She said, sounding determined.

"I'm pretty sure it was more than what you're thinking..." Ten reasoned but was ignored.

His cousin still felt that she could win his heart and the title of Danny's wife, she just needed to keep trying. Her people never give up and as princess of the Onis, she was the most beautiful and determined of them all.

This was both a blessing and a curse, but she didn't see that. She's like her father in the aspect of following through with her ideas until she's victorious… or in this case gets the guy...however, the methods she uses are more or less the same.

"Besides, we are Onis. We are warriors and conquerors...we have conquered half the galaxy and people's hearts...and I know that I can conquer Darling's heart too. I just need a different tactic..."Lum said, pondering to herself and convinced that it wasn't impossible.

Her little cousin, however, groaned at this.

"But nothing you did works and from what I saw on Earth TV and films, I don't think the usual Oni courting methods are working..."Ten said.

"So, what? Just like we do in the battlefield I'll have to adapt to new methods of attack..."Lum said, brainstorming for new strategies.

"How? None of the previous methods worked..."Ten pointed out, while his cousin smirked.

"Then I'll try Earth methods..."Lum said, sounding over-confident.

"That won't work either. Maybe if you be the bigger person and apologize to Danny face to face. He might be at least willing to consider forgiving you..."Ten said.

"I've done nothing wrong and HE should be the one begging for MY forgiveness!..."Lum snapped, but regained her composure.

"Anyway, you're his biggest fan, go convince him to take me back..."She said, but her cousin shook his head.

"I can't! The only reason I'm not forbidden to return either is because I won't betray his trust. Besides, I think he's right to do it, since he's mad because that lie you created about being pregnant!..."Ten argued.

"Oh what do you know? You're 2 for crying out loud!..."Lum said in a dismissive manner, offending her little cousin.

"I'm right and you know it!..."Ten yelled, insulted that she doubted his intelligence.

He and Lum were very close and she was like a big sister to him, but right now, they have been kinda been at odds with each other since Lum's fall out with Danny and Ten siding with him.

"I'm a genius for my age and you know it!..."Ten argued.

"In terms of brains, yes. But in terms of maturity, I don't think so!..."Lum said as some electricity was sparking from her.

"Don't talk down to me like his sister and other female friend did! I HATE IT!..."Ten yelled, some flames escaping his mouth, but holding back since he doesn't attack family.

"You're supposed to want to see us together..."Lum yelled at him, looking at him like he's a traitor.

"I do... but you're going at it all wrong! I owe my life to Danny and he made it clear that he doesn't want to see you..." Ten argued back.

"Don't talk to me like that! YOU BRAT!..."The alien princess yelled, her voice loud enough to almost be heard in space.

As Ten and Lum both argued, someone appeared in her UFO and left something by the door.

A knock was heard.

"Huh?..."They both said as they stopped arguing.

They went and checked. There was no one there but they saw a package left on the doorstep of the ship, one that was addressed to Lum.

The two aliens were confused.

"Huh? Where did that package come from?..."Ten asked, confused as Lum brought it in.

"I didn't notice that before...did you order something?..."Lum asked, just as confused.

"No, you?..."Ten asked.

His cousin shook her head and then examined the box. She noticed a note on it and read out loud.

"Heard about your recent relationship problems...I hope that this helps...Vlad?..."Lum read, with her head tilted and a look on her face that showed confusion.

"Who's that?..."Ten asked.

'No idea..."Lum said as she opened it and was surprised to see what was inside the package.

Once she did, she smiled as she examined the items and read the note that explained what it's form. Lum looked pleased while Ten seemed wary.

"What kind of person would send that?" Ten asked, suspicious.

"I do not know whom this Vlad person is, but if he can help fix things with Darling, I'll gladly send him an invitation to our wedding..."Lum said happily as she flew and twirled in excitement over her gift, believing that it's the key to win her Darling's heart for sure.

Ten cringed and sent the gift a suspicious look. He didn't know who this Vlad guy is, but he didn't like some stranger butting their nose into their business. However, he also saw how excited his cousin got and had a bad feeling about this.

"Why do I get a feeling that something bad is gonna happen?..."Ten thought, worried as Lum decided to admire her gift.

All the while, the alien princess formed plans.

"With this, I stand a chance at making him mine. After all, how hard can that possibly be?..."Lum thought, not realizing the hurdle she just gave herself to tackle.

Meanwhile

On Earth

Danny was currently fighting off a giant, ghostly praying mantis and a giant ghostly beetle as well. Both of them apparently aren't sentient and had been fighting each other for territory or something before Danny appeared to break it up.

"So long, creepy crawlies. Try to avoid that giant frog I stuffed in there a while back!..."Danny quipped after sucking it into the thermos.

He grinned, very pleased by how that went.

He's felt more into the groove of ghost fighting and he's managed to unleash a lot of his pent up aggression from these last few weeks, making his ghost fights more cathartic in a strange way.

"You've been a lot more upbeat during your fights lately..."Tucker commented.

"No duh, I'm just glad that I don't have to worry about getting shocked or force fed gross alien food. Plus, I'm super glad that I can stop sleeping with one eye open from now on..."Danny said, stretching a bit.

"So am I. You've been getting better sleep lately... only 5 out of the 8 you need." Sam joked.

"Hardy har har..." Danny responded sarcastically.

However the happy moment was interrupted.

"Aren't you worried that Lum might try and come back with a whole fleet of invaders that might be worse than the last time?..."Tucker asked, worried.

"Lum's dad said that her people are honor bound to spare the Earth after I won and if she comes back, I'll make her leave..."Danny said in a serious tone, fist charging.

"Just don't make her leave so hard that her dad would change his mind..."Sam said, not wanting an invasion on their consciences.

However, they were about to leave when someone spotted them.

"Danny?..."Was heard.

Danny and the others looked up and saw a little oni child flying towards them.

"Ten, what are you doing here? I thought you were on your way back to your own planet..."Danny said, surprised to see the little Oni again and that once again, he was unsupervised.

"Uh...about that..."Ten said, looking nervous.

The ghost boy, however, had a hunch of what this is about and frowned.

"Don't tell me that Lum is still around?..."Danny asked, scanning the area with an angry look on his face.

"I tried to get her to go home but she wouldn't listen. Even more...I...I'm worried that she's going to take drastic measures to win you over..."Ten said.

"What do you mean by that?..."Danny asked.

"Well...she...she got a package with some strange stuff in it and I think that she's gonna try and see you again soon. So I came here ahead of her to warn you about it..."Ten said.

"She never gives up, does she?..."Danny said, looking ticked.

"Of course she would, her type don't give up ..."Sam said, looking sour upon hearing the news from the alien toddler.

Ten gulped and continued.

"Someone I never heard of left her something. Some kind of weapon she thinks would give her an edge. I think she's decided, since you're a superhero, she might play the role of a villain to get close..."Ten said.

"Did you get a name?..."Danny asked, taking this seriously.

"Yeah. Someone named... Vlad..."Ten answered, looking at Danny.

Danny sighed, he should've known his arch-nemesis was getting involved with this.

"Why am I not surprised? Two people who want to ruin my life teaming up..." He grumbled.

"Danny...I know that you are mad at Lum...but please...try to go easy on her. She's still my cousin and she's not a bad person..."Ten pleaded.

"That's a matter of opinion..."Danny said, in no mood to deal with her again. "She caused me enough trouble and I've finally had some peace. I'm not gonna let her think that she can just show up, do whatever the heck she wants and pester me again. The next time I see her, I'll personally send her off world..."The ghost boy said, eyes flashing green to prove how serious he was being.

The alien toddler gulped and dreaded or her.

"Just...don't...hurt her too much..."Ten said, hoping that his idol listened.

While Danny had no patience for Lum and her antics, he knew that Ten is innocent and came to warn him.

"Fine...I'll just kick her butt enough to make her go back to her own planet but I won't destroy her...that's all I can promise..."Danny said, not budging further.

Ten sighed, knowing that's probably the most he can ask for.

"Best you can do, I suppose..."He muttered.

"Thanks again for the warning, Ten..."He said.

"Of course, regardless of the circumstances, I still owe you my life and I still believe that there's a chance that everything will work out in the end for all of us..."Ten said, nodding before leaving.

"Poor kid, so naive. So gullible. Still, it's not really his fault that his cousin is a maniac..."Danny thought, knowing he still wanted the two to be together deep down despite the obvious reasons it wasn't likely.

Once Ten was gone, Team Phantom tried to come up with strategies on how to deal with the stubborn alien princess and also kept their eyes peeled in case she is lurking nearby

"So, what's are we gonna do when we see that bratty princess again?..."Sam asked, wanting her away from their planet.

"Maybe I can get my parents to make some anti-alien weapons and thermos..."Danny pondered.

"You think they can do that?..."Tucker asked, curious.

"They managed to make the ghost portal, most of their weapons and the thermos long before they even SAW a real ghost and most of them worked. So, it can't be that far-fetch for them to make gadgets to capture aliens..."Danny pointed out.

"True..."Tucker admitted.

"But those things aren't ghosts. There's a good chance you might do worse to Lum than you think..." Sam argued.

"I thought you hate her?..." Tucker asked.

"I don't hate anyone enough to want them dead..."Sam said, with a scowl. "I also don't wanna give her dad a reason to go back on his word and conquer the planet..."She added.

"Point taken..."Tucker said, before they turned to the ghost boy.

"We'll cross that bridge, when it's time. For now, let's get ready..."Danny said, getting prepared before having to see Lum again.

Unknown to him, someone was spying on him...or rather...several people were without his knowledge.

The first was Lum from her UFO. She had just snuck back to Earth and could spy while her ship was hidden away from the view of Amity Park.

She had logged in just now and didn't see Ten when he arrived, nor did she notice where he went. Her focus was just on the object of her desire and believing that soon he will be all hers.

"Do not worry, Darling. I'll help you realize that you love me. I just know that everything will work out for everyone, especially you and I..."She thought, looking ecstatic about her chances with her beloved now.

Meanwhile

Vlad was spying on her and his arch enemy, sending a few extra Vlad bug-cams to make sure things went as expected.

"This is almost too easy, I might as well just sit back and watch the show while this little princess ruin his life for me. I do so love my new little hobby..."Vlad thought in amusement as his latest pawn was unknowingly doing her part.

However, unknown to either Vlad or Lum, someone else was spying on Danny, with their own motives in this..such as getting revenge on someone.

Elsewhere

In space

"So this is the one who dared to mar my beautiful Rei's face...I swear on my love for him, that I will avenge him,- in addition to my revenge against Lum! I SHALL MAKE MY MOVE ON THAT PHANTOM CREATURE!..."The figure said from a spaceship several hundred light-years from Earth, their voice going from gentle to furious in a second.

It seemed things were looking to get a lot more crowded on Earth as of late.
