Another short chapter, I wrote another story from the perspective of a villain and wanted to try it here! So I have this fic from Cokie's point of view and how her and Grace's friendship ended. I'm going hard on Grace, she doesn't deserve this knowing what I had happen to her next. So this is different and we will be back to our regularly scheduled Stacey chapter next.
Happy reading!
2002
Stoneybrook High School was not the greatest school, thought Cokie Mason, as she yawned while in the middle of her geometry two class. Next to her Grace was paying rapt attention to Mr. Schubert drone on about the quadratic formula. All her past notes gone untouched so far.
She rolled her brown eyes and started to write another note to Grace. Then started to doodle instead, class was ending for lunch in about ten minutes. Then she'd be able to sit down and have a talk with Grace about not writing her back. What was with her? It's like she wanted to do well in the class.
Finally the bell rang for lunch as Grace hurried out of the room.
"Grace," she said snapping at her friend grabbing her wrist. "You've been avoiding me all day. What gives?"
"Cokie, I told you last night on the phone. My dad hasn't been feeling well and…"
"Oh right, I forgot about that. You guys are leaving for that resort place for spring break right?"
"Yea we're leaving tonight. I also have a student government meeting that's being held during last period so I could leave."
She nearly rolled her eyes at the mere mention of her involvement in student government. Grace just so happened to be class vice president alongside Pete Black as president. As much as she loved Grace as a friend, if Pete could chose his VP it wouldn't be her.
Not to mention she was friends with Stacey McGill, who was the class treasurer, of all people. Mariah Shillaber, the class secretary, was a weirdo. Meanwhile she was hanging out with juniors like Liz Lewis and Michelle Patterson who were a lot cooler.
"Ugh, I don't know why you hang out with them," said Cokie rolling her eyes. "After all Pete's just uninteresting, Mariah is just stuck up and Stacey is such a goody two shoes. You could have gotten a job with me at Sylphide Models."
Cokie smiled at her reminding her that she managed to snag a modeling agent. She did have some experience after all with Bellair's back in eighth grade. Now as a sophomore she was doing a pretty good job as a model, if she had to say so herself. Grace instead decided to pay more attention in school.
"They're not that bad," said Grace adjusting her leather mini skirt.
"If you like those kinds of people," she said with a snort. "Come on Grace. When you come back do you want to hang out at the mall? We haven't got a chance to really go shopping. I mean that sweater with that skirt."
She looked down at her mustard yellow sweater with a leather peter pan collar paired off with a leather mini skirt.
"I like this together though. Come on Cokie," she said. "I don't want us to fight before spring break."
"This isn't a fight; this is me trying to help you. It's like you don't want to be friends anymore," she said checking her nails. "I mean come on; we haven't hung out for weeks. If I didn't know any better, I think you're ignoring me. Come on Grace, what's going on?"
"You know what…"
"Yea, no I don't," she said. "I know your dad is feeling sick and you're busy with student government. That's all I know. Oh my gosh is this about Pete, Stacey, and Mariah? You're always off with those goody two shoes."
From the corner of her eye she could see Stacey and Mariah standing in the doorway trying not to listen. She could see them getting mad but not stepping in. Honestly at this point in her life Grace was just holding her back. Maybe now would be the time to cut her losses.
"Cokie, listen I'm just really busy. High school has just been harder on me. I'm really trying to be a friend to everyone. Come on we're not the same people we were in middle school."
"You're right we're not. Grace, I think we're going in different directions in life," said Cokie feeling a smirk grow on her face. "I have my junior friends and you have the pep squad. I think, well, I think we're done here."
Grace's face changed as Cokie just shrugged. It was true, they had grown apart and didn't really spend time together. Maybe their time as friends was just up. Grace's hazel eyes welling up with tears but seemed to swallow them back.
"Are you saying what I think?" she asked her voice choking up.
"Uh, yea," said Cokie feeling a little sympathetic. "We have our lives going in different directions. We had good times; I just think it's time for it to end now. It's natural, think of it as closure, some friends don't always get that. Spring break will be a fresh start."
She tried to be comforting but it didn't seem to work as Grace turned to face the door. Her highlighted blond hair slightly mused and make-up running.
Stacey and Mariah seemed to have caught on what happened and rushed to meet Grace as she ran to the bathroom. Cokie watched the three of them go with others in the hall looking at her curiously. She just smiled at them and turned in the other direction. Stacey and Mariah would be find with Grace. Right now, she had her other friends to find.
