So I'm not going to do a fifth part of this and just keep it at four, mainly because I got the backstory necessary already set up in the previous three chapters. After this a request from CNJ and then a Matt Braddock story for the guest who left a review on my other drabble collection. Then an intro to Karen, Hannie, and Nancy. From there its any ones guess!
Enjoy!
Kristy sat there with a contemplative look on her face. With Stacey, well, it was her job to find a replacement, right? Adding any new member, even if it was someone they knew, made her nervous after the incident with the Baby-sitters Agency.
The meeting was about to wind down as they were talking about what to do about the sudden influx of jobs. The baby parade really did give them a lot of business - almost too much of it. That seemed to bite them in the back because they were getting a lot of jobs. The phone didn't seem to stop ringing.
Ever since Stacy's parents divorced, she's been bouncing back-and-forth Like a ping-pong ball between her dad and her mom. It was great when Stacy was here, but harder on the club because she couldn't sit as much. She couldn't blame Stacy for having a hard time choosing between her parents but if it was up to her she would've chosen her mom who loved Stoneybrook.
"Alright so I made a decision about Stacey leaving," said Kristy giving her friend a small sad smile. "I found a replacement, well a temporary one, just for now."
"Wait, you found a replacement?" asked Mary Anne standing up. "I found a member. Logan! Get this if Logan knows the family well enough, he could stay with the kids a whole night if he needs to."
"I thought it would be my job to find a replacement," said Stacey looking at Mary Anne and Kristy confused. "I know we didn't really talk about it, but I asked one of my friends."
"So we have three people coming to my house?" asked Claudia a bit alarmed but had a wicked grin on her face. "I'll need to get more junk food."
"When did we talk about this beforehand?" asked Dawn. "I might have known someone."
"It's not in the minutes but something I thought about," said Kristy, "I wanted to just do a test run, she's coming to today's meeting just to get an idea. No one is joining yet. When you did you guys ask your friend and Logan to come?"
"Today," said Stacey and Mary Anne together.
"Logan has football tryouts and other teams for the rest of the week," said Mary Anne.
"I thought it would be fine since Friday is my last meeting," said Stacey.
"So they're just sitting down there?" asked Kristy.
"Talking to Janine, I got to save them," said Claudia as she raced down the stepped also hoping to talk to Ashley in the meantime.
Slowly they all came into the room and waved awkwardly to the others. Stacey rushed to hug Shannon as she saw her. Together they looked around at the new club members feeling slightly overwhelmed.
"We had a bit of a miscommunication issue," said Kristy sighing. "Why don't you guys introduce yourselves?"
The new people squeezed next to Mallory and Jessi on the floor as Logan hung back at bit.
"My name is Abby Stevenson; I like classic movies and tv shows– mostly comedies, soccer, retro clothing, and I run five miles after school every day," said Abby tossing her curls over her shoulder. Stacey nodded approvingly at her outfit: a bright red turtleneck, black and white checkered mini-skirt, paired with black leggings.
"I'm Shannon Kilbourne, you can call me Shay," she said playing with the hem of her school uniform skirt. "Stacey and I made friends at the pool party a few months ago. I have a dog named Astrid and um, that's about it."
"Err," said Logan. "Mary Anne can we talk?"
"It's okay Logan, I'm going to pitch my idea to the room," she said before shrinking back a little. Coughing, she grinned a little and waved to Abby and Shannon. "Well you see, Logan has sports and I figured since we're so busy he could join as an associate member. He's, he's a backup. He doesn't have to come to the meetings but we call him when we need the help."
"What do you play?" asked Abby interested.
"Track and baseball," he said, "and I'm trying out for football."
"I mean I like that idea," said Shannon. "Stacey and I talked about this being temporary since I have after school clubs during the school year. Being an associate member sounds really ideal."
"I wouldn't mind stepping down to that position if Stacey comes back," agreed Abby.
Kristy looked around the room as this seemed to fall in place for the club. Stacey leaving was such a bummer but they had made plans to visit the city and she'd come back sometimes. She saw everyone nodding a little as Kristy sighed. It had to be done then.
"It's official at the end of Friday's meeting. Dawn will become the new treasurer, Abby the new alternate, then Logan and Shannon will be our new associate members," said Kristy wishing she had a gavel or something.
"And if she Stacey comes back, I'll give her the position back," said Dawn.
"Then I would step down to associate," said Abby.
"You guys," said Stacey her eyes welling up. "It's taking three people to replace me." She giggled wiping her own eyes as the girls went to hug her.
"And don't forget your goodbye party is tomorrow," said Kristy easing the out of the sad direction. "The baby-sitters club has expanded and Stacey, you'll always be a member."
With that the phone started to ring, and ring, and ring. They were off as Stacey was already counting down the days until she could come back.
