I don't really have any authors notes. I haven't been writing lately but I had this and a couple of other stories complete that I just wanted to post at the beginning of 2023. I actually have a lot of fic ideas so I get overwhelmed when I see it all lined up to work on. Getting some stories posted helps out.
Enjoy!
Welcome Home, Angus read the sign draped across the front door. Three year old Lynn Benedict was drawing a picture for her new brother. Next to her Claudia Kishi sat with her cousin-slash-goddaughter coloring along with her. John and Rioko Kishi were cleaning up the house which had left a mess since they hurried to the hospital.
Janine Kishi was pacing. The 18 year old felt like she was going to puke. Her aunt was going to give them another cousin. This time she was going to be the godmother like Claudia was to Lynn. Then of course if something happened to either of them her parents, John and Rioko, were going to take them in. That way the whole family had a role in Angus and Lynn growing up. She wanted to help clean but got jumpy knocking over a pot of coffee. She'd draw with Claudia and Lynn but she was terrible at it.
"Come and sit with us Janine," said Claudia waving her over. "They'll be here soon."
"Very well," she said, taking a seat on the floor next to her sister and taking a coloring page.
"It's okay to be nervous," said Claudia, handing her the box of crayons. "At least you're not going to be butting in when you weren't supposed to be like I was when Lynn was born."
She laughed at her own mistakes and Janine could only smile remembering the stories. Janine knew not to make that mistake.
"Do you have any advice?" she asked as Claudia looked a little stunned. "I am aware that I do not ask you for advice or help very much. Which of course I will be correcting now."
"Well it helps to be there when they need help and to teach him things. Not just school stuff but help learn to walk or be a helpful ear. Lynn is only three right now and I think we'll be learning how to be godmothers together."
"To get her," repeated Lynn understanding that final word.
"They're here!" called her mother from up the steps presumably seeing them park in the driveway.
Claudia scooped up Lynn into her arms as her parents bounded down the steps. Russ opened the front door as the cold breeze hit their faces. Janine smoothed her dress and smiled as they saw the blue tartan wrapped around her godson. She could see his tiny arms waving and a soft gurgle.
She nodded as Peaches asked if she wanted to hold him first. With her arms outstretched to hold him Janine could only cry a little as he was no heavier then a book with no hair and he smiled up at her. It may have been gas but now she had that feeling of pure elation as she held him close.
