Chapter Eight

Christina shuddered when she spotted the SWAT trucks and other police cars scream into the parking lot of the hotel she and her two brothers had rented out a room at. She adjusted her jacket against the cold as she slowly walked down the two story landing and slowly walking down the stairs only to be pushed to the side by the SWAT team and one of the two police officers there.

"What the hell?" Christina stated surprised by the way she was treated as the police and SWAT team finished going up the stairs leaving her with an uniformed cop at the bottom of the stairs.

"Ma'am what is your business being at this hotel?" The officer asked pulling out a pad of paper and a pen.

"Am I under arrest?" Christina asked glancing up when she heard a loud bang coming from the upper floor.

"No, but we are just wanting to see if you have some information." The officer informed her.

"Well, I have a room here." Christina said looking up and looked surprised to see the other police officer, a woman in a long dark coat, had Sam in handcuffs and leading him down the stairs. "Am I free to go? I have no other information and I have no idea what's going on here."

The officer nodded and Christina slowly walked away trying to keep herself from running after her brother. Once she rounded a corner she pulled out her cellphone and dialed Dean's number to inform him what had happened to their brother.

"Hello?" Came a male voice Christina didn't recognize and felt something knot in her stomach.

"Who's this?" She said trying to keep her voice calm but it came out slightly panicked. She heard a soft snap in the background and she figured they were trying to trace the number to find out where she was.

"This is Sgt. Sheridan of the Baltimore Police department. How do you know this number?"

"Sorry wrong number. Was trying to order a pizza." Christina said quickly before hanging up and rushing over towards

Christina figured someone else got her brother's phone and quickly hung up, guessing Dean was also arrested she rushed over to a small diner and quickly dialed Bobby's number trying to keep herself from looking unsuspicious as she huddled in the corner away from prying eyes and curious ears.

"Hey, Christy. You alright kid? Brother's not teasing ya are they?" Bobby let out a chuckle that Christina couldn't help but smile at how much of a father Bobby really was to all three of them.

"No. They're not teasing me... or at least I hope this isn't an elaborate prank because I'm not laughing and I'm not sure what's going on." Christina said before letting out an uncomfortable laugh as she could almost hear Bobby's thoughts and let out a slow breath. "Dean and Sam have been arrested by the Baltimore police. I'm worried they're being charged with Murder because that's why we were brought here to begin with."

"What was the case?" Bobby asked and Christina sighed rethinking grabbing something to eat as she didn't want to discuss the case in the presence of strangers and walked out of the diner. "Can you talk?"

"I can now. I didn't want to talk in a diner with others." Christina said finding a bench that was pressed against a brick building so that she could still keep an eye on the streets as she talked. "So the case that got us here in the first place was the death of an attorney her in Baltimore by the name of Anthony Giles."

Christina was waiting patiently for Dean to finish reading the paper that he had picked up to do the small crossword puzzle that was on the back when Sam walked up carrying a small drink carrier with three drinks. She let out a small squeal of excitement as he handed her the small cup with a "C" written on the top.

"Here, read this." Dean said, sliding the newspaper in front of Sam before holding up a hand when he spotted his sister's pouting face.

"Anthony Giles?" Sam asked setting down Dean's drink while picking up the newspaper. "Baltimore Attorney... found with slit throat with no DNA or prints found."

"Keep reading." Dean pressed taking a sip of his drink, which turned out to be their coffee orders. "It gets better."

"Security footage didn't record any of the assault." Sam looked surprised at the last statement.

"So either someone scrubbed the footage," Christina said gently taking the newspaper and began to fold it so that the crossword was in a neat square to solve it easier.

"Or we're dealing with an invisible killer." Sam finished seeing his sister patting her jacket for a pen and pulled one out of his own jacket and handed to her. After, she let out a smile she instantly began to work on the puzzle looking rather content.

"My absolute favorite." Dean said. "Come on Scully. Skinner put down that crossword, you'll get hurt."

"Wait," Sam said seeing as Christina stood up sliding the crossword into her jacket pocket. "I'm not Scully."

"In my eyes you are a red haired woman." Dean said with a teasing smile making his two younger siblings give a genuine chuckle before they all climbed back into the Impala and drove off to Baltimore to start their new case.

"So what did you three discover when you first show up?" Bobby asked listening to Christina as she was slowly calming down so that she could think a bit more clearly.

"Well, while Sam and Dean went to talk to the widow, as we concluded seeing three people all crowding after she recently lost her husband. But while I was there waiting for them I did some research on Anthony and the type of work he did but didn't find anything that would warrant anything like that. Even if he did, nobody should go through that. But regardless, when we finally got to go to Anthony's later that night, that's when things got a little confusing."

"So the wife said he saw a woman with red eyes at the edge of their bed?" Christina asked after Sam managed to pick the office lock while Dean and Christina kept a look out. When the two boys walked in Dean grabbed hold of the back of her jacket as she had caught a look of a charming young janitor who was too focused on his job to notice her. "Sorry."

"Head in the game." Dean said scolding her softly but knew she was just like him so didn't hold any hate towards her. "But to answer your question yes." Dean and Christina both stopped when Sam's flashlight and it fell on a large pool of blood stained carpet.

"That's where Anthony was found." Sam said his voice calm as they had seen even worse in their hunting cases. "'Cut so deep that his spleen could be seen.'"

"That's very descriptive." Christina said as she just continued to stand in the middle of the room not sure what she should do. She let out a shudder when she looked back down at the large blood pool.

"Hey, I know you said not to use you like a blood hound...but can you use your nose for this once?" Dean asked making Sam confused and Christina let out a slow breath.

"Just this once." Christina said rolling her eyes before taking a slow breath and softly began to sniff. As she carefully walked around the small room she stopped and made a confused few sniffs and raised an eyebrow in confusion.

"What's wrong?" Dean asked seeing her look confused and really sniff the air more.

"You remember when I said something about everything has the same base...well I'm not smelling that. In fact I smell cheap cologne and tuna. It's almost like the killer was human and not a ghost. But I could be just tired. This week's crossword is proving to be a bit tougher. It's a struggle to swap back into the case."

"It just makes you human." Sam said still confused as to why his sister was asked to sniff around. "But I found something interesting here." He pulled a piece of paper from the garbage and in the flashlight beam all three could see 'Danashulps' written over and over again.

"Work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy." Dean said trying to figure out the words that were on the paper.

"So is this a name of someone? The woman perhaps?" Christina asked making both her brothers shrug as they were unsure as well.

Sam looked around and spotted a computer on the desk and walked over to it. He quietly sat down and started it up while Dean sat down in an open armchair while Christina leaned up against the wall to finish her crossword she had started earlier. While Sam started to do some research both younger siblings looked up at Dean as he started to make weird farting noises with his mouth. "Really?" Sam asked sounding annoyed and Dean stood up before heading to the door. "Where are you going?"

"I'm going to see Karen. Gonna check her house to see if there was something that we missed the last time." Dean said before leaving the office leaving the two youngest alone to finish up.

"I guess we'll head back to the hotel and do some more research on Dana Shulps." Sam said and Christina nodded looking around and helping her brother wipe down the surfaces they touched before closing and locking up the office.

The air was cold as the upcoming rainstorm dropped the temperature by thirty degrees making both siblings to pull their jackets closer. Their hotel was several blocks away so they were both rather miserable their brother didn't offer to drive them.

"Hey, got a question." Sam spoke his mind trying to comprehend everything they came to investigate. "What did Dean mean by using your nose to sniff out things?"

"It's something that I've always had growing up. On our last case, I told him how I was able to find Jo and Holmes after you went to get supplies. I told him everything has a smell humans have different smells while monsters share the same base and has a few different smells added."

"So he wanted to see if you could figure out what we're hunting?" Christina nodded and then let out a sigh. "So with that logic we're dealing with a human then?"

"Or it could be just Anthony's residue smell...it's super confusing on when it works and when it doesn't. But yeah. I remember you asking if this was sudden but no this was all my life kind of ability."

Sam nodded and before they knew it they were back at their hotel room and Sam opened the door to let them in as the cold started to seep through their jackets.

"...And then Sam and I were doing some more research," Christina continued to speak with Bobby as she started walking down random streets not sure where her destination would be. "Then Sam and I were getting a little hungry and Dean wasn't answering our texts. So I left the hotel a few minutes before the SWAT team showed up to arrest Sam."

"So what kind of research were you looking at?" Bobby asked who had listened to her small story without any interruptions.

"Dana Shulps. We did search for a "Dana Shulps" but there wasn't any Dana Shulps in Baltimore living or dying in the last fifty years."

"I can do some more research here if you want. Maybe I'll be able to come up with something."

Christina smiled and glanced around looking up at the street signs that she stood underneath. "Actually Bobby, I'm not sure you'll be able to find any Dana Shulps. Not doubting your ability, but I think I solved the problem myself."

"Oh, okay well, you did good, Kid. I hope that you can solve this and get your brother's out of the slammer." Bobby chuckled making Christina chuckled back. "Alright, call if you need my help."

"Will do. If I can't get my brothers out, then I might need some help." Christina let out a giggle and heard him return the chuckle. "Talk to you later, Bobby." Christina said hanging up and sliding her phone into her jacket pocket and began to walk down a darkened street glancing at the large buildings that were like giant silent monsters. But sensing she needed to come down this street, she figured Dana Shulps wasn't a woman they were looking for but a name of the street. Ashland.
