Toriel has a serious expression on her face as she faces us. I decided to use the ACT feature, and I am presented with two choices. I can either talk to her or I could check her, seeing the way these boxes have worked so far checking her would probably tell me how strong she is. I really see no use in talking to her, seriously who would try to talk to someone who is fighting with you?

I decide to pick the check feature

Toriel - ATK 80 DEF 80

Knows best for you.

Yeah of course, because attacking us to keep us sealed in a cramped sealed off ruins is totally what's best for us. NOT!

Suddenly inside the box a hand appears unleashing fireballs, the same type she used against that weird flower. Me and Frisk have to move quickly to dodge them, one came close to almost hitting me but thankfully it just barely missed me.

"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?!" Toriel's face scrunches up even more at my swearing.

"I can not allow you to leave the RUINS, unless you prove yourself." She looks pained to say this but she continues to keep her composure. Frisk then selects the mercy button, when they do this Toriel just stares at us, but her expression grows more serious.

Why the fuck would Firsk choose Mercy?! Didn't Frisk see when Toriel sent literal fireballs at us! We can't just hope that she is going to change her mind, I can't let her kill us! My thoughts then wander to the Fazer Blaster in my pocket. Yes I can use it to blind her!

I quickly pull out the Fazer Blaser from my pocket, Toriel gasps the second she sees it. Frisk looks at it and back to me in confusion. I quickly take aim at her eyes and I pull the trigger. Toriel gasps as a thin red beam of light tags her. She quickly holds her hands to her eyes. Frisk looks at me disapprovingly then they quickly turn their gaze back to Toriel with concern.

"Toriel, are you ok?" Frisk is talking fast with worry in there voice. It takes a few seconds for Toriel to stop rubbing her eyes, and when she does I can tell that the blast has left her in disarray. She is blinking rapidly as she tries to get them adjusted. She then tries to attack again, this time she is raining down fireballs, but they are coming at us sloppily because Toriel is still disoriented from the blast. I am thankful that I've kept the Fazer Blaser, I knew that it could come in handy for me.

Frisk proceeds to spare Toriel again. What the hell! They're going to get us killed! Toriel attacks again but we aren't so lucky this time. Frisk gets hit twice and I get hit once. I can feel pain go through me as my soul takes the fireball head on. That's it, I can't let us die! But I don't have any weapons!

That's when I remembered, after I escaped the Pizzaplex I started to carry something to defend myself with. Due to the lack of options all I have is a rock, but it is better than nothing. How could I have forgotten to use it, before when Vanny was chasing me! I guess I caught off guard since I was still trying to sleep when she found me.

After Toriel finishes her next attack, I select the attack option and I raise my rock and swing. It barely does any damage, Frisk looks at me with a pleading look.

"Please Gregory, don't attack her! We can do this without harming her!" Frisk sounds very desperate when they say this. How can Frisk not want to defend themselves? I am absolutely terrified right now! If Toriel doesn't kill us, there is still Vanny out there and she will come for me! I remember her crazed eyes, she terrifies me down to my soul!

Toriel summons more fireballs and some hit me and Frisk. I feel pain shoot up through my body. I look over at Frisk and their expression shows that they are in just as much pain as me. Our clothes have tears all over, our skin burned and blood is pouring from our wounds. But Frisk regardless of this still has that determined look on their face, despite all odds they still look determined to end this fight peacefully.

Frisk spares her again, this time however Toriels loses her composure, and she looks down at the ground, with guilt. Toriel's next attack completely avoids us however, as Toriel's expression gets more desperate. Frisk spares her again and the same thing happens. I reluctantly lower the rock, and sigh as I look at Frisk. Since Toriel's attacks are no longer aimed at us I won't need to defend myself. I'm still wary about her, but it wouldn't hurt to wait and see how this turns out. She reminds me of Freddy so I really don't want to have to do this.

It continues on like this for a few minutes, with us sparing Toriel. None of her attacks are hitting us now, and with each turn her will to continue the fight diminishes. Throughout this she demanded to know what we are doing. The attacks stop completely as she staring with a defeated look.

"I know you both want to go home, but…" Toriel's voice sounds drained. At this point me and Frisk both know that this fight is over.

"But please… go upstairs now." We spare her again.

"I promise I will take good care of you here."

"We are not going up stairs, now let us through." It is clear that we are not going to change our minds, all she is doing is drawing this whole thing out!

"I see. Pathetic is it not? I can't save a single child." Toriel lowers her head and grimly laughs then she looks back at us.

"No, I understand. The two of you would just be unhappy down here. The RUINS are very small once you get used to them. It would not be right for you two to grow up in a place like this." Honestly Toriel's house has been the most comfortable place I have stayed in a long time. But Vanny is still out there, and I am sure that if I told Toriel about my living situation that she would change her mind in a heartbeat.

"My expectations… My loneliness… My fear… For you, my children… I will put them aside." With that the fight ended.

Author's Notes:

The fight has ended, and Gregory and Frisk are about to exit the RUINS. But Vanny is growing closer. And as always thanks to my proofreader Kaeli, who also suggested the title for this chapter.
