Hello all! Here is a little Edward x Molly story I came up with. Enjoy! TW for graphic depictions of death
It happened so fast. Her crew didn't even realize her breaks had failed until it was too late. One moment they were coasting down Gordon's hill, the next she was off the rails.
"Shit I have no-" Her driver couldn't even finish speaking before Molly's wheels left the rails. As they did, her driver and her fireman were thrown from her cab. Unbeknownst to her, she would never see either her driver or her fireman again.
The scene was abuzz with paramedics and fire personnel within 15 minutes. Edward, Savannah, and Rebecca showed up with the breakdown train soon after.
"One male DOA. One male critical En route to Wellsworth now." Molly overheard among the hustle and bustle of paramedics and fire personnel. Edward arrived soon after.
Molly was shaken, but relatively unhurt.
"MOLLY!" Edward shouted as he approached the stricken D56 class.
"EDWARD!" Molly cried.
Molly panted as tears filled her eyes. She was scared.
Edward wheeshed steam in attempt to soothe her aching soul, however the burden was about to bear down on her full force with all its nasty strength.
"Edward..." Molly whimpered.
"Yes honey?" Edward responded, reassuring Molly he was there for her.
"What does DOA mean?" Molly asked.
Edwards' face fell. "Oh Molly my love...I'm so sorry..."
Molly sniffled as tears fell. She knew what this meant.
"Dead on Arrival...One of your crew is..." Edward spoke through his own tears.
"Oh...no..." Molly whimpered as she broke. Edward wheeshed steam again in an attempt to soothe his beloved.
They were at Crovan's Gate works within half an hour. The fat controller was there waiting. Workmen looked her over and Victor asked his barrage of questions.
"Are you in any pain Molly? If so, how much?" The Miraz asked. He was concerned. Specifically that Molly may have internal injuries.
"A little." She whimpered. She was more emotional than she was in any physical pain, especially now knowing that her driver was dead.
"Hmmmm... I'm concerned she may have suffered an internal injury. I want to put her under just to give her a good look over." Victor explained to the fat controller.
"A fair observation Victor." The stout gentleman replied.
'I'm scared...' Molly whimpered.
"So am I..." Edward whispered back. He too was feeling emotional. He truly loved molly and wanted her to be okay. It hurt him deeply to see her like this.
Soon, Molly was administered and Edward fell back as she fell into a deep sleep.
"I'm not seeing anything out of the ordinary, maybe a few things that need repairs here and there." The lead workman stated.
Molly's vitals began to speed up rapidly. Something was terribly wrong. Edward's eyes widened with fear. "Anyone please. Anyone but her. Take my driver or fireman, or one of my friends but please, not her. I can't live without her." Edward's thoughts began to race as things spiraled.
"Shit SHE'S IN SHOCK! VICTOR!" One of the workmen shouted.
"GIVE HER THE REVERSE AND WAKE HER UP NOW! HER VITALS ARE CRASHING!" Victoria frantically shouted. She too feared for Molly's life.
The flashbacks hit, and they hit hard. Molly could feel her side in the soft grass. The wood fence leading to a pasture was broken. She could hear the paramedics talking.
"One male DOA..."
The scene slowed down. She saw her driver's mangled body disappear into a black bag. She could hear the zipper as the paramedics closed it.
She panted. Hot tears ran down her face.
Molly woke with a scream. She panted as hot tears ran down her face as she cried, struggling to catch her breath.
"Thank god you're okay!" Edward said before rushing forward and locking lips with Molly. He could taste the bitter saltiness of her tears.
"Edward...I'm a monster...Humans aren't built of iron like we are... They are fragile...Flesh and bone...Mere flesh and bone!" Molly panted and cried.
Edward nuzzled up to his shattered princess and wheeshed steam. Seeing Molly distressed like this made his joints ache physically. He cried with her.
"It's not your fault love..." He whispered softly.
It was quickly determined that Molly had indeed not suffered any internal damage. A few days flew by and Molly was kept in good company. While Edward had to leave to carry on with duties on his branchline, Molly was visited by many engines and people. Henry and Emily visited and brought her some comfort, as did Gordon and Caitlin. The Holden brothers Blight, Dmitri, and Isaac stopped by and somehow even managed to make her smile a little. Of course Rebecca came by with her bright soul, but no one had a more profound impact on her than her drivers' widow and her two young children.
"Hello Molly." The young woman greeted the yellow engine sweetly.
"Oh, hi...I'm sorry..." Molly said, glancing downcast. She wanted to cry.
"Oh honey, please don't cry. What happened to my husband was a real tragedy but you shouldn't blame yourself for your breaks failing. It was merely a twist of fate sweetie." The young woman sympathized with the Great Eastern engine.
Molly sniffled as a tear ran down her face. She was barely holding on.
Two young children stood by the young lady's side, carrying big bouquets of sunflowers. They were gently laid on her front running board.
Molly smiled a sad smile. "Thank you..." She whispered.
Edward arrived from Wellsworth just in time to see the tender moment take place.
The young lady pulled out a very simple looking wooden box. She opened it and took out what appeared to be a crown. A simple one, made of mid sized metal sunflowers.
"My husband made this a while back. I think he meant to give it to me, but I want you to have it." She smiled. A sad smile.
She gently handed it to a workman who climbed onto Mollys' front running board and placed the crown around her funnel.
"Now you look like a proper princess!" A small girl who stood beside the young lady smiled brightly.
"Don't forget Edward!" A young boy on the other side of the young woman jumped up and down whilst clutching a ring of sunflowers. He was excited to give his gift to Edward.
"Yes, we won't forget Edward." The widow smiled softly. He gently handed the small wreath over to the workman nearby who walked over to Edward, climed onto his front running board, and placed the ring of flowers over Edwards' funnel
"Now you look like a prince!" The young boy flapped his hands excitedly.
For the first time in those few days, Molly smiled.
"It's great to see you smile again dear." They young woman smiled back at Molly. Little did they know that it would be the last time in a long time that they would see her smile.
Sir Topham soon arrived, a somber look on his face. Molly knew immediately what this meant.
"Hello sir." Molly smiled softly.
The stout gentleman sighed. "Hello Molly, I have some news for you..."
Molly sniffled. She could already tell her fireman was gone.
Sir Topham paused for a moment and removed his hat before continuing.
"Your fireman was taken off life support and passed about a half an hour ago." Sir Topham bowed his head in silence and sympathy with his no. 16.
Molly broke. She cried and sobbed. "NO!"
Edward wheeshed steam once again. He felt her pain. He too shed a few tears with his beloved. "I'm so sorry my love..." He spoke, his voice wavering with emotion.
He nuzzled up to Molly, feeling her hot tears against his face.
"It's not your fault Molly my dear, we'll mourn together. I promise..." Edward cried softly before pressing his lips to the bridge of her nose.
Molly was in and out of the works within a week. Her damage was mild compared to the fate of her crew. Despite being emotional and heartbroken about it, Molly managed to pull both her driver and fireman's funeral train. Both were then laid to rest at Wellsworth Memorial park. Whilst her drivers' widow grieved and handled her husbands sudden passing alright, the same cannot be said about her firemans. She resented railways with a raging vengeance from that day forward. She was later arrested for nearly causing a nasty accident and later commited indefinitely to a psych ward. She too would later be found dead in her hospital room. Speculations arose but Molly knew that she had died from a broken heart, and this would have a detrimental impact on her.
