"So first, what you need to know is-", he said, before I interrupted him.
"Wait before you continue on, what do I call you"?
"?", he seemed surprised by my question." Hm, in all honesty, just call me Rogue, it's easier for both of us if we don't use our real names".
'So the 'Rogue' doesn't want to use his real name then.' I thought. 'I don't' really have a problem with that, but what should I call myself then'?
"Ok then, you can just call me the Warrior". I felt like that was a good name for myself.
"Warrior, huh, why not the Hero or something like that, your whole quest seems like a typical hero's journey?". He said.
"I don't think I have earned that title yet, maybe after I end the corruption I can call myself the Hero". I said. " Anyway, what were you saying beforehand"?
"Alright then, first things first, some enemies you need to watch out for in the sewer levels are the gnolls, which are those dog creatures you faced early, and the sewer crabs, they're the crabs that live in sewers pretty self-explanatory, as well as the horde of flies that have a nasty bite, they're not poisonous however".
" Some equipment you can find down here are some leather and even some chainmail armour. As well as some weapons like dirks and hand axes".
"Wait, a hand axe?, like this one". I pulled the hand axe out of my bag and showed it to him.
He examined the axe in his hand, swinging it a couple times. "Hm, it seems to be in good condition, you sure got yourself quite the catch". He said before handing it back to me.
"Then why does it seem heavier then most axes I've used".
"Well there is an easy explanation for that". He said with a smirk."You're just too weak to wield it properly".
I was taken aback. 'Weak? What is he talking about, I mean not to brag but I look stronger than the Rogue, physically at least'. But before I could say that to him he responded.
"By that offended look on your face, you're confused on why I said that huh"? Still with that smirk on his face. "The reason I said that is because, like with most weapons, you can't pick it up and instantly know how to use and hold it up properly". He went into his bag and pulled out an orange potion, tossing it to me.
Grabbing it and examining it I saw the label on it.'Potion of Strength'? I gasped as this new information was processed. " Is this what I think it is?!"
"It is. A potion that artificially enhances the strength of one's body. In most black markets it would cost millions of gold coins, and that's for the low quality ones. It seems the dungeon has a couple lying around and they're not the terrible ones either".
I couldn't believe what I was holding in my hands. Something that could completely turn the tides of my quest in my favor.
"I see that look on your face, you want to use it?" He said.
"What- are you serious"? I was shocked.'He would let me use something so valuable'?
"Yes, so go ahead and use it"
"Ok then". I said, while putting the orange potion to my lips.'Bottoms up'. I started drinking the strength potion.
Gulping it down completely I went to see if there were any physical effects.
"So how was it"? The Rogue said.
"Huh, it tasted a bit fruity, but I don't feel any- Gah?!" I doubled over, feeling the liquid strength seeping into my veins, pulsing in my heart, enhancing my muscles.
"Whoa there Warrior, just calm yourself, if you fight against it, it will only hurt more".
'Ok, that makes sense'. I breathed in and out, calming the storm of power coursing through my heart and veins. Slowly, but surely, the pain stopped and a sense of content filled my body.
"Di- huh, did it work"?
"Well, let's test it then". He handed me the hand axe. Picking it up it felt just right in my grip, test swinging and tossing it up into the air and catching it. "Wow, thank you Rogue". I said.
"Don't mention it, besides we're teammates now, we look after each other". He said with a grin on his face."Now let's get off this floor and head down, I will explain more on the way". He said while opening the door for me.
"Alright then let's go", I said with a smile.
Walking through the doorway, we came across a long hallway with a left corner hall. Wadding our way through the sewer water, I asked the Rogue something. "Rogue, can I ask you something?"
"Depends, what do you want to know"?
"It's just about that cloak you have on, how strong is the invisible effect that it gives you"? The Rogue looks apprehensive at the question posed. "Hm, it gives me about 5 seconds of invisibility that grows as long as I keep on using it." He declared matter-of-factly." Why do you want it too? I'm not a charity you know." I shook my head at him,"No, I don't want to have it, I prefer a more direct form of combat rather than just sneaking up on my enemy". He smirked at me,"I hope that's not a dig at my style of combat".
Before I could answer, I heard the rabid squeaking of rats coming our way, but not just that there was also the howling of those dog creatures again, 'the Rogue called them Gnolls', I readied my axe while Rogue brandished his dirk.
"Are you ready"?
"Absolutely"
With that motivation, we charged to meet our enemies in battle.
