Pontypandy was waking up to the sound of the birds singing in the trees and the fire station was not busy in the morning. Sam was in the kitchen and Elvis was polishing Jupiter when Ellie texted him that Penny will be at the station in 1 minute as Arnold is arriving at the station. And Elvis just noticed Penny walk into the station and set her bags in her locker. "Morning, Elvis. How's your morning starting off so far?" Penny asked.
"It's going great, Penny! Jupiter's looking beautiful with the shiniest paint there is."
"Oh, isn't that shiny? I think it's the shiniest than any other fire engine in all of the UK."
"It sure is, Penny. Station Officer Steele is going to love this. He always wants us to keep the vehicles clean."
"Oh, well, I think Venus is clean, pristine, and gleaming."
"I'm sure she is too, Penny."
"Well, I better get going. Sam is wondering where I have been since I first arrived."
"Ok, Penny. See you there."
"See you later, Elvis."
Penny went off to find Sam when a firefighter from another service approached her and introduced himself. "Firefighter Morris?" He asked.
"Yes, sir. That's me. And you are?"
"Firefighter Kyle Higgins. London Fire Brigade. I was assigned here while Firefighter Phillips was at Newtown Hospital."
"I see. Well, it's very nice of you to be here. I hope you make yourself at home. We treat everyone like family here."
"Really?"
"Yeah. Is that always like this in London?"
"Hmm... Not all the time. But, yeah, it is."
"Uh... Ok. I'll be up in the kitchen. Breakfast will be ready soon."
Sam was working on breakfast for everyone in the station while Ellie was on duty at Newtown Hospital. Penny came up to find Sam working on some tea for the others and himself. Station Officer Steele was in his office waiting for breakfast to be ready. "Morning, Sam." She called to him.
"Morning, Penny."
"Wow... This smells really good."
"It sure does."
"What's for breakfast?"
"Well, there's tea, pancakes, biscuits, beans, scrambled eggs, and bacon. All of that is a full breakfast for everyone."
"Yeah, I think I need a warm breakfast. You make the best breakfast here, Sam."
"Does Elvis make the best too?"
"Yeah. He does. He is good at it too."
"I'm sure he is."
"Elvis has been lazy sometimes."
"Yeah. I'm sure he is but Station Officer Steele wouldn't want one of our own to lose his job."
"I wonder how Jason has been doing after he came to Pontypandy while Ellie was on medical leave?"
"I don't know, Penny. But, let's hope he's alright in Cardiff. I heard last night from Arnold that he's the Union Representative from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service."
"Is he really?"
"Yeah."
"Surely, he can do a great job than Jerry Donaldson who is still Union President..."
"He probably wants us firefighters to be held accountable for our own actions out of our own pocket money."
"That's not what I want to do."
"I agree."
"Arnold should turn the tables and do some digging into why he wants us to pay our attorney out of our own pocket."
"He should."
"Firefighters need to be able to seek help without getting frustrated. This can result in Mental Health issues. Right, Sam?"
"Yeah. They should."
"No firefighter should ever be left alone when they need legal assistance."
"That is absolutely true."
"I stand with you on this one."
While Sam and Penny were having a chat, Station officer Steele was reading emails from Chief Fire Officer Boyce who had told him the news from the Union which is bad news. As he was about to reply to it, Arnold showed up. "Sorry I'm late, sir. Did I miss breakfast?" Arnold asked his superior officer.
"Oh. Uh... No, Arnold. You didn't."
"Ah. That's good. But, I hear the Union is asking firefighters to pay their attorneys after a legal case out of their own pocket."
"Yeah. I agree. That's a bad idea. Where I came from, I learn from the best which of course would be the Great Daniel Steele. I'm sure you heard about my father after the show."
"Yes, sir. I did."
"But, I happen to know a chief up in Chicago by the name of Wallace Boden. I'll have him bring some firefighters with him if we need them."
"Sounds good, sir."
"Anyway... I heard from Boyce you are one of my top firefighters who is the best Union representative I have ever seen."
"I'm guessing he speaks highly of me."
"He sure does. You know what? I can have Boden come by in a week and I'll pay for travel expenses and I will send him the information to the CFD."
"That's a great idea, sir. Erm... Where's Ellie?"
"On duty at the hospital. She's a busy firefighter. Always loving the side job. I know firefighters who do side jobs in the UK. Some of my old friends."
"How long ago was that?"
"Almost back to when Sam first joined the Fire Service."
"Ah... I see. Speaking of Sam, I think there's something going on between him and Penny."
"You mean..."
"Yeah..."
"And she's..."
"Oh yeah."
"OH!"
"What did I tell you? I knew there was something between the two. We already knew a year before they did."
"Yeah... Like they ever knew that."
Just as Arnold was about to get comfortable, the map screen turned on and Station Officer Steele raced to it showing the map of Pontypandy. "There is a Fire at Pontypandy Mountain." The map screen read to him.
Station Officer Steele wasted no time activated the station alarm sending all firefighters to the vehicles. "There's a fire at Pontypandy Mountain." He said over the intercom.
Sam and Penny were upstairs when they heard the call and raced down the poles. "Hey. All good shifts start with a call during breakfast. Remember that, Penny." Sam told her.
"No problem. But who's driving Jupiter?"
"You are."
Sam tossed the keys for Jupiter to her and climbed in Venus sitting next to Kyle. Penny, Kyle, and Elvis drove off to Pontypandy Mountain first. "What do you think... about sending another email to someone you know?" Kyle asked.
"I don't know."
"I would send an email if I want to ask travel questions or plan meetings in advance." Elvis replied.
"Here's what I would do." Penny added.
"What's that?" Kyle asked.
"Nothing. I just wait until whenever they are ready unless it's urgent. But travel questions are a different story."
"How so?"
"That's for me to understand and for you to find out, firefighter Higgins."
"Hey. I heard this story about-"
As he was just talking about his story, Penny saw something off the corner of the mirror. "Who's that?"
"No idea." Elvis replied.
"Something wrong?" Kyle asked again worried.
"Yeah... This driver here is following us. For what reason?"
Just as Penny continues driving, Elvis doesn't see anything. He was relieved that they left Jupiter do the job. "Phew... They're gone now, Penny." Elvis told her.
"See. All in a days work when you can say-"
As Penny was finishing her sentence, the same car came back again out of nowhere and crashed into Jupiter. But the blue lights were on with the sirens sounding. Jupiter rolled onto the right side smashing glass everywhere.
