Prologue:

"Big brother! No! Please don't leave me!" A small child cries as he clutches onto the hug with his older brother.

The older brother sighs seeing the adults fast approaching and there is no way to stop this. "It'll be okay little brother." He soothes gently turning his attention back to the other in his arms. "We can't stop this but that doesn't mean we have to let it be permanent." He hates that the adults won't let them stay together just because they're homeless and are being taken into the orphan programs. "I promised that I'd take care of you when no one else stayed around to take care of us." He hands the other a small object. "Take this and never forget me. I promise I'll find you. No matter what it takes."

The child tearfully nods before the two pull apart and the adults take them by the hand leading them away.

The two glance back to each other and the older crosses his heart in promise.

Light gasps as he awakens and sighs with his eyes falling to be half open when he sees his room. He wished he could have changed that moment if only he had the knowledge he does now.

"Light! Wake up! Breakfast is ready!" His adoptive mother calls and Light sits up in his bed.

The Yagami family have been really nice and treated him like he was born with them... Though Light knew that wasn't true and refused to allow himself to ever forget.

"I haven't forgotten about you little brother." Light mentions in a whisper looking at his hands as he sits there on his bed. "I will find you like I promised." He gets up getting ready for the day and heads down to breakfast. He'll pretend to study but really he'll be trying to search the orphan database for a clue to help him find his brother. He is pretty smart which he hopes will end up helping him in his search. He glances to his adoptive father who he tried to get to help years ago... However the man told him that as much as he would like to he doesn't have access to such things. He was disappointed by this though he was at least promised that with the description Light gave his adopted father would keep an eye out. He turns back to his breakfast not feeling whole as the little brother he's missing leaves an aching hole.

Where could those adults have taken him all those years ago?
