The next day, Elena was sitting with Bonnie and Caroline at Caroline's. They'd told Bonnie what happened, and Bonnie was in the process of making her a daylight ring. The firs thing Bonnie had asked after getting over the shock was if she'd hurt anyone. Caroline had immediately jumped in with her cover story, which Elena was grateful for because she already felt like she was being judged by Bonnie just for being what she was, and it irritated her.

Elena's emotions seemed to be everywhere. Last night, she had felt scared and guilty. She still felt those things, but now she felt more anger than anything else, and she felt a lot of anger. It was almost overwhelming her.

"I still don't understand how this happened," Bonnie said after she finished enchanting Elena's ring.

"Damon shoved his blood down my throat! That's how it happened," Elena said irritably.

"Yeah, but I used the spell to save you," Bonnie said.

"Well, it didn't work," Elena said flatly.

"Why are you snapping at me? This isn't my fault," Bonnie said.

"I didn't say it was your fault! I'm just pissed! I'm pissed that this was forced on me without my consent. I'm pissed that two of my family members are dead. And I'm a little irritated by the fact that you keep staring at me in disappointment as though I had any choice in any of it!" Elena snapped.

"Hey, it's okay," Caroline said before reaching into a cooler she was keeping by her bed for Elena and pulling out a blood bag. "You should feed. The hunger probably isn't helping with your heightened emotions."

Elena took it and started drinking.

Bonnie looked away. "I'm sorry. I just didn't want this for you."

"Join the club," Elena said in between gulps. "I'm sorry. This is just hard."

Caroline rubbed her friend's shouldn't. "We get it. Right, Bonnie?"

Bonnie nodded before handing Elena her ring. "Here. Just promise that you won't hurt anyone."

"I have no plans to," Elena said. It was the best she could do. She couldn't promise anything. The cravings were also. It was an hourly struggle not to want to devour someone.

"Does anyone else know?" Bonnie asked.

"Other than Caroline's mom, no. I have to tell Ric and Jeremy next. Then Stefan," Elena said. She was pretty reluctant to talk to Stefan. He was going to be worse than Bonnie. He was going to pity her and hover over her. She didn't know if she could take that right now.

"There's no rush. Tell people when you're ready," Caroline said patiently.

"There kind of is. Ric and Jeremy have been calling me all day," Elena said. She couldn't really blame them. She ran out last night without a word. They were probably really worried.

"Does anyone else want to kill Damon? I swear, I'll do it if you want me to, Elena," Bonnie said.

"I second that suggestion," Caroline said.

"Thanks, guys, but it's not going to change anything. Besides, if anyone gets to kill Damon, it should be me," Elena said.

"Fair enough. Uh, I hate to do this, but I have to go. My dad wants to have lunch," Bonnie said.

"It's okay. Thanks for this," Elena said as she held up her ring.

Bonnie nodded and stood up. "I'll call you later, okay?"

Elena nodded and watched her leave.

Elena made her way to the Salvatore house with Caroline the next day. She'd stayed with Caroline the night again. She had told Alaric and Jeremy what happened, but she'd had to do it over the phone. She didn't trust herself around them yet. She barely trusted herself to stay with Caroline and be around her mom, and only because Caroline was there to stop her if she couldn't control herself.

Telling Stefan was next. She was actually surprised Stefan hadn't been blowing up her phone. He'd called her once or twice the day before, but that was it. She was grateful for it.

"You don't have to do this today if you don't want to," Caroline said.

"Yes, I do. I can't put it off any longer. Stefan needs to know. Thanks for coming with me though. You've been great these last couple of days. I know it hasn't been easy," Elena said. She'd had quite a few mood swings, and Caroline had to bear the brunt of them.

"Don't even mention it. I know what you're going through," Caroline said.

Elena led the way into the living room, where they found Damon sitting on the couch with a bourbon in his hand. Just the sight of him almost set her off. She was filled with rage as she looked at him. He was the reason this was happening. "Damon."

Damon turned to her. "Hey. How are you doing?"

"Where's Stefan?" Elena asked. She was not making small talk with the guy that helped turn her into a vampire. Maybe she would forgive him one day, but today was not the day.

Damon sighed before standing up. "I don't know."

"Well, I need to talk to him. Do you know when he'll be back?" Elena asked.

Damon laughed bitterly. "Yeah, I don't think you're going to be able to do that for a while."

"What are you talking about?" Caroline asked.

"Stefan went off to get a cure after Lockwood sunk his teeth in my arm," Damon said.

"You were bitten by a werewolf?" Elena asked surprised.

"I'm fine now," he said.

"How are you fine?" Caroline asked. Werewolf Venom was lethal to vampires. They'd seen that for themselves with Rose.

"Like I said, Stefan went to find a cure. I thought he was crazy, but apparently there is one. I was almost as good as dead, but Katherine came back with blood last night that healed the bite," Damon told them.

"Katherine? Katherine was with Klaus," Caroline said as the implication dawned on her.

"Yep. I'm guessing you can figure out what that means. Stefan got the cure from Klaus, and he didn't help for free," Damon said.

"Stefan is with Klaus?" Elena asked as panic began to sink in. She should've spoken to Stefan sooner. Maybe this wouldn't have happened.

Damon nodded. "I already went by Ric's apartment. No one was there. I tried calling Stefan, but he won't pick up. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention, there was a dead body on Ric's floor."

"No. This can't be happening," Elena said. She was both terrified and pissed. How much more was the universe going to put on her? Actually, no, she shouldn't say the universe. She should say Klaus. He'd taken her whole life from her. Jenna, John, Stefan. Hell, he'd taken her life and forced her into another one she didn't want.

Damon stepped forward and put a hand on her arm. "Hey, it's going to be okay."

"Don't touch me!" Elena snapped before pushing him off of her. He went flying several feet back.

Damon landed on the floor and then stared at Elena in shock. "How did you do that?"

"How? You shoved your blood down my throat and Klaus drained me dry. That's how," Elena said irritable.

Damon shook his head. This couldn't be happening. She was fine. Bonnie had done her mojo. John had died in Elena's place. She should've been fine. "No. The spell…"

"Didn't take! John died for nothing! I killed someone, Damon! I took a human life because I couldn't control the blood lust! All you had to do was let me take Elijah's elixir! It was my choice! And now Stefan's gone too!" Elena yelled before turning around towards Caroline. She knew the last part wasn't Damon's fault, but she was just so damned angry. So many horrible things were happening all at once, and her emotions were going haywire. She was so angry she wanted to rip someone's head off.

Caroline frowned as she looked at her friend. Elena's eyes glowed yellow for just a second. She almost wanted to say she was seeing things, but she knew she wasn't. She'd seen those eyes before. She saw them in Tyler when he transformed.

Damon got to his feet. "Elena, I'm sorry. I just wanted to save you."

"Great job with that!" Elena said angrily.

"Elena, I think we should go," Caroline said before pulling her from the room. She rushed her out to her car and drove away.

"I don't know how much more I can take, Care. So much is happening all at once. I'm a vampire! I can't go home because I might slaughter the only family I have left if I do. I killed someone, and I can't guarantee that I won't again. Now Stefan is missing," Elena cried.

Caroline drove a good distance away from the Boarding House before pulling over. "I wish I could tell you it was going to be okay, but I don't know that it is. Worse than that, I'm about to add to it. After you went off on Damon, your eye color changed."

"You mean they turned black? Yeah, I've seen that happen when a vampire is hungry or angry," Elena said.

"No, Elena, they didn't turn black. They turned yellow, like Tyler's do when he transforms," Caroline said as gently as she could.

"You mean like a werewolf. No, I'm not a werewolf," Elena said. That was one thing she knew she couldn't be. She didn't have the gene.

"Elena, you killed someone. That's how the curse is triggered," Caroline said. She didn't want to remind Elena of what she'd done, but it mattered if she truly was becoming a werewolf.

"But I don't have the gene. John would've known if the werewolf gene ran in our family, and Isobel would've turned if it ran in hers. I can't have it," Elena said.

"Then maybe it's an affect of the ritual. According to the ritual, you weren't supposed to survive. Who knows what it means that you did? Elena, your eyes were yellow. I've only seen that on a werewolf," she said.

Elena began to shake as the realization hit her. A werewolf. Because apparently being a vampire wasn't enough. She was becoming a werewolf too. Her eyes widened as she realized what that meant. She wasn't just a vampire or just a werewolf. She was a hybrid. "Oh, God. He turned me into the same thing he is!"

Caroline shook her head. "No. You're not like Klaus. You never could be. You might be a hybrid, but you are a thousand times better than him."

Elena was quiet for a minute. Her head felt like it was swimming. She didn't even know how to begin to process this. She'd just barely come to terms with being a vampire, and only very loosely. How was she supposed to handle having been turned into a hybrid? She was one of two in the entire universe.

Suddenly, Elena remembered something, and it shook her to her core. She remembered a conversation with Elijah, where he told her what his brother's plans were after he broke his curse, and it terrified her now. "He'll never leave me alone now."

"What?" Caroline asked in confusion.

"Do you know why Klaus wanted to be a hybrid?" Elena asked.

Caroline shrugged. "To be unstoppable?"

"Yeah, but his plan was a little more thought out. Elijah told me he wants to create others like him, like me. He wants a hybrid army," Elena said.

Caroline didn't say anything, but the realization was clear on her face. She knew exactly what her friend was telling her.

"He'll never let me go. He won't give me any other choice but to be like him. He'll turn me into a monster," Elena said with a shudder.

"No, he won't. He'll never find out. No one will. This will stay between the two of us, and maybe Tyler, since you'll have to transform and he can help with that. We'll figure out how to keep it quiet. Klaus will never know, okay?" Caroline asked.

Elena could only nod in response. She didn't really believe it though. She wanted to believe that Klaus would never have to find out, but she knew it was a pipe dream. She couldn't keep the truth from Klaus for the rest of eternity. He would find out eventually, and that was the day life as she knew it would end.
