Klaus wasn't one to be easily surprised, but he had to admit that the doppelganger had pulled it off. He was only mildly surprised that she was a vampire. He had begun to wonder about that. The way she carried herself was different than the last time they'd met, and it was different than the way humans carried themselves. He didn't check to be sure because it didn't matter. Even if she was a vampire, he would've killed her if it got him to his hybrids. Still, he was curious. Sending Stefan into ripper mode was, in part, a test for the doppelganger.

It became clear to Klaus very quickly that Elena wasn't a typical vampire. The way she seemed to dominate Stefan made that clear. She was stronger than him, which was unusual for a new vampire. Vampires grew stronger with age, and Elena was almost infantile. The fact that she could beat Stefan in a fight was strange until he'd seen her eyes turn yellow, which could only mean one thing. She wasn't just a vampire. She was a hybrid. He didn't know how, but she was.

Things began to make sense to Klaus now, such as why the girl didn't seem afraid that he'd hurt her. She knew he wouldn't. All she had to do was tell him that she was a hybrid, and it would guarantee her safety. Even if he believed that killing her was the only way to make more hybrids, he wouldn't risk it by killing the only one he had.

This also explained why Elena did still appear nervous about what Klaus might do and why she'd kept silent thus far about what she was. She was probably hoping she could get through this night without him finding out. Because she knew he would never let her go once he knew. That was good. He would hate to have a stupid hybrid.

Klaus stepped towards the girl and began circling around her. "Interesting development indeed. I thought I couldn't make hybrids because you were still alive, but it turns out I've already made one."

Elena watched as he prowled around her like a predator trapping his prey. She refused to flinch away or show fear. She wouldn't give him that satisfaction. Life was about to get bad for her, but she was going to handle it with dignity. "The irony wasn't lost on me."

Klaus laughed. "No, I imagine it wasn't. So, how is this possible? I wasn't aware your bloodline carried the gene."

"It doesn't. My best guess is that it's a consequence of your dark ritual," Elena said.

Klaus smiled. "A consequence? No, my dear. I'd call it a happy accident."

Elena soon heard a sob from a few feet away. She looked over at her terrified classmates. "Leave, now."

Klaus flashed in front of the two humans before they could even move. "Now, don't be hasty. I apologize. Elena is being rude. Please, stay."

"Klaus, let them go. It's me you want," Elena said.

"True enough, love, but I ordered these two dead, and when I say someone is to die, I expect them to die. You'll be my only exception," Klaus said before looking to where Stefan still laid with his neck broken. "Obviously, Stefan will be unable to fulfill his orders, but that's alright. I have a better idea."

Elena looked on in trepidation as Klaus grabbed Chad by the back of the neck, making him wince. "Don't."

Klaus ignored her before dragging the boy over to her. "You see, my little hybrid, you seem a bit peckish."

Elena took a step back. She knew exactly what Klaus was planning for her. It was probably the first of many times he'd make her do it. She wouldn't be able to resist for long, provided he even let her. She was already hungry. She'd started to see her two classmates as food before Klaus had even ordered Stefan to kill them. "Stay away from me."

Klaus grinned like a maniac. "Come now, Elena. This is an occasion to celebrate. You and I are about to begin a relationship that will last eternity. It's only right that we share a drink to honor it. I'll even help you out. I'm sure this is your first."

Elena watched helplessly as Klaus bit Chad on the neck, causing him to scream. The aroma of spilled blood was enough to turn the color of Elena's eyes and cause her fangs to pop out.

Klaus threw the boy at Elena.

Elena lost every bit of control at that moment. She latched onto Chad's neck and proceeded to drain him dry.

"That's my girl," Klaus praised before using vampire speed to catch his own meal, who had just started to run screaming. She didn't get far.

It didn't take long for Elena to finish Chad off. Once every last drop of blood was gone, she let him fall to the ground. The guilt hit her almost immediately. So did rage. She hadn't killed a single human since the man she'd drained the night she transitioned. She'd worked hard not to. Klaus had destroyed that in moments.

Elena turned to Klaus, who had just finished himself. He was grinning once more, obviously impressed with himself and her. She lunged at Klaus. She shoved him, causing him to go flying across the room. "You son of a bitch!"

Klaus laughed as he pulled himself up. "That's what I like to see. Impressive. Come on then. Show me what you have. Let out that rage. Just know that when you lose, you are mine."

Elena felt nothing but hatred and fury. She wanted to hurt him. She wanted to hurt him a lot, and, yes, she knew she would lose. She was strong, but she highly doubted she was stronger than him. He would win, but that was okay as long as she got to hurt him first. She had nothing to lose at this point anyway.

Elena growled and went after him again. She punched him hard. He fell into the wall and continued to laugh. It was a game to him.

Klaus got up easily and motioned with his hands for her to come at him again. She wasted no time in attacking him again. She raised her leg to kick him in the stomach. He easily grabbed her leg and shoved her away, causing her to fall to the ground.

Elena jumped right up and jumped on him. They both fell to the ground. She punched him twice.

Klaus laughed before kicking her off again. She was knocked into the bleachers, several of which broke. He could've subdued her by now. The point of this wasn't to show her who was more powerful, not yet anyway. He wanted to see what she was capable of. She was strong, much stronger than a typical vampire. He'd been attacked by normal vampires. They didn't have the reflexes Elena did. They would've been subdued by now, even with just the mild show of force he was using.

Elena pulled herself up. She was a little winded, but she was still pissed and ready to go again. She climbed a couple of the bleachers and used them to leap off of them and onto Klaus. She bared her fangs and moved to bite him.

Klaus maneuvered around her before she could bite him. He pinned her down on the ground on her stomach. He used his weight to keep her down and pressed her head into the gym floor. "Now, I think that's enough of that. Excellent effort, love. You're more than even I could've anticipated."

Elena growled and struggled to get up, but she could barely move. About the only thing she was able to move was her legs.

"What the bloody hell is going on?" a new voice asked.

Klaus turned to see that his sister had entered the room, and she looked far from pleased. "Rebekah, I'd like you to meet my first hybrid."

Rebekah looked down at the doppelganger. Her teeth were bared, showing her fangs, and her eyes were yellow. It was extremely disappointing. She'd wanted to kill the little bitch. Nik would never let her now. "You have got to be kidding me."

"Afraid not," Klaus said before carefully getting off of his hybrid and forcing her to her feet with him.

Elena growled and attempted to get free, but the next thing she knew, she was pinned to Klaus's body. He held her head to his chest and used his other arm to restrict her upper body. She still struggled hard to get away. "Let go!"

Klaus began to grow tired of her struggling. "Enough! Relax, or I'll break your neck and take you out of this town unconscious. It would be a much better option for you to behave yourself for the rest of the evening."

Elena reluctantly slowed down her struggling until she stopped altogether. She didn't want it to end that way. She knew she'd be forced to leave, but she wanted to at least have the opportunity to say goodbye to her loved ones and leave fully conscious.

"That's a good girl. Don't you worry. I'm going to help you make good use of that rage," Klaus said.

"She has my necklace!" Rebekah snarled murderously.

"Is that right, love? Do you have the answer to our problems?" Klaus asked Elena.

"No, I don't have the damned necklace! If I did, I would've given it to you to avoid revealing myself! I haven't used that necklace since I transformed. It has vervain in it. It was stolen by Katherine eventually," Elena said.

"Ah, I see. Well, I suppose we'll have to figure out another way. Now, listen carefully, Elena. I'm going to tell you how things are going to go. Hopefully, your witch friend and figure out what the problem is before Tyler dies. Either way, however, you will be coming with me, as I'm sure you've figured out. You belong to me now. Do you understand?"

"Let me go," Elena said after a few moments.

Klaus sighed. "It appears I wasn't clear enough…"

"Let me go, so I can solve your problem," Elena said. She had an idea of how to help Tyler. She'd been thinking about it while Klaus was waiting on the others. She wasn't positive about it, but they didn't seem to be getting answers elsewhere.

"You know what the problem is?" Klaus asked.

"I'm not certain, but I have an idea," Elena said.

Klaus let her go after a moment. Well, he mostly let her go. He kept a good grip on her arm.

"And why would you want to help my brother?" Rebekah asked distrustfully.

Elena glared scathingly at her. "I wouldn't! I want to help Tyler. Tyler was there for me when I transformed into a werewolf. He talked me through it. He helped me feel like less of a freak for what I was. He's my friend! He's who I'm helping, not your psychotic brother."

"Well, then shall we go?" Klaus asked.

Elena looked over at Stefan, who was still unconscious. "What about Stefan?"

"He'll keep for now. Don't worry, my little hybrid. He's coming with us. He's my insurance to make sure you behave yourself. Come on," Klaus said before pulling her towards the door.

Elena glared at him, but said nothing as he dragged her out of the room.
