Elena was led into the classroom that Caroline and Tyler were in. Tyler was awake now, but he didn't look good. He was sweating bullets and looked like he could pass out at any minute. His body was clearly rejecting Klaus' blood. "Tyler, are you okay?"

"I don't know. I think I'm dying," Tyler said as he sat hunched over.

"I think that's accurate, mate," Klaus said matter-of-factly.

Caroline was next to Tyler, tending to him. He looked at Elena. She had blood on her face, like she'd fed recently, and she looked a little banged up. "Elena, are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'll be fine. Any word from Bonnie?" Elena asked. She had her idea, but she would rather not risk it if Bonnie could come up with a more definitive answer.

Caroline shook her head. "He's going to die, Elena."

"Not necessarily," Elena said before turning to Tyler. "Tyler, I have an idea, but it's only a theory. If I'm wrong, I could make you worse."

"I don't think it can get any worse, love. Get on with it," Klaus ordered.

"He's right. I'm already dying," Tyler said as he panted heavily.

Just then, Bonnie and Matt entered the room, neither looked very happy.

Klaus was the first to notice them. "Ah, Bonnie, you're just in time. Do you have an answer for me?"

Bonnie looked back and forth between Klaus and her friends in hesitation. One way or another, she would be signing the death warrant of one of her friends. If she told Klaus what Matt found out, he'd kill Elena.

Elena could tell what her friend was thinking. "Tell us, Bonnie. No matter what you say, Klaus isn't going to hurt me."

Bonnie noticed the blood on Elena's face at that moment. "Elena, did you feed?"

"Now isn't the time, Bonnie. Tyler is dying. We have to help him," Elena said.

"Elena, the only way for Tyler to live is for you to die. I'm sorry, Elena," Matt said sadly.

"How do you know that?" Elena asked.

"It's a long story, but I was able to communicate with Vicki. She had a message from the witch that cursed Klaus. In order for him to make hybrids, you have to die," Matt said.

"No," Caroline said sadly. She was going to lose either her boyfriend or her best friend.

"Yeah, I'm not buying that. It doesn't make any sense. I'm technically already dead. I'm not human anymore," Elena said.

Klaus laughed. "Of course it makes sense, love. The Original Witch hates me. The last thing she wants is for me to make hybrids, which is likely why she wants you dead."

Elena nodded. That made sense, especially if her theory was correct. Not only would killing her mean killing Klaus' only hybrid, but it would also mean he couldn't make any more. "Yeah, one last 'screw you,' I'm guessing."

"It wouldn't matter if it were true. I'm not about to kill a guaranteed for hybrids that aren't guaranteed," Klaus said.

"Elena?" Caroline asked in a shaky tone. It seemed that Klaus knew the truth about her, which was something they'd both been trying to avoid for months.

"Yeah, it's over, Caroline," Elena said.

"Wait, what's going on? What's he talking about?" Bonnie asked.

"There's no time," Elena said before turning to Tyler. "Tyler, we're going to have to try my way. If it works, you will be like me, a hybrid."

"What? You're not a hybrid," Bonnie said. She was a vampire, not a hybrid, right? She'd never told them she was a hybrid. Although, as she looked at Caroline and Tyler, she could see that neither of them seemed surprised.

"And if it doesn't work, I'll die," Tyler surmised.

"Yes. I wish I could give you the option to say no to this, but I can't. Klaus isn't going to let me," Elena said.

Klaus smirked in response.

"I don't want to die anyway. I've secretly envied you for being a hybrid. I know you've hated it, but it would mean I wouldn't have to turn anymore," Tyler said.

Elena nodded. It wasn't as big a secret as he thought it was. She'd seen the longing looks he'd give her when they talked. She understood why he felt the way he did, even if she thought he didn't have any idea of what he was in store for. "We're going to need human blood."

"This one will do," Rebekah said as she pointed to Matt.

"I have some bags," Caroline said before going to her bag and grabbing one.

"What are you going to do?" Bonnie asked. Tyler just drinking human blood couldn't be all there was to it. That was just every other vampire needed.

"I'm a hybrid. My blood accepted the transition. I'm hoping that it will also work to create others as well," Elena said before rolling up her right sleeve and biting into her wrist. She then looked at Tyler. "Ready?"

Tyler reluctantly nodded. He knew this had to happen, but he was scared of what would happen if it didn't work. He would die, but he would also die if they did nothing.

Elena brought her arm to Tyler's mouth and watched as he grabbed it and sucked some of it into his mouth.

Tyler let her go after a minute and began to fall to the floor. He clutched his body in pain for a few moments. Then his eyes turned yellow and his fangs emerged.

Caroling brought him some blood. "Drink this."

Tyler grabbed the blood and immediately started drinking. It took him a minute before he was coherent again. "Thank you, Elena."

Klaus walked behind Elena and pulled her against his chest. "Yes, thank you indeed. You are magnificent. You've just made yourself invaluable to me. I'm never letting you go."

Elena squirmed a bit in his arms. "Like you were ever going to anyway."

"No, let her go! You got what you wanted," Matt said as he tried to step forward.

Bonnie held him back.

Klaus laughed. "I'm afraid that won't be happening, mate. She's mine now. They both are," he said as he looked up at his newest Hybrid, who was sucking on another blood bag.

"You don't need Tyler. You have me and I can help you make new hybrids. Just leave him alone," Elena said.

"No can do, sweetheart. I want all of them, and I get what I want. I think it's time we go now," Klaus said.

"No!" Caroline exclaimed.

Elena started to struggle in Klaus' arms.

Klaus held her tighter. "Now, now, none of that. Remember my warning. I have no qualms about snapping your neck and throwing you over my shoulder. Or I could compel you. No matter what, you will be coming with me. I suggest you come to terms with it.

"I have! Just give me a few minutes to say goodbye to my friends. It's the least you can do," Elena said. She wanted to ask to go home and say goodbye to Jeremy, but she knew she wouldn't get that much.

"Actually, the least I can do is give you the option of walking out of here on your own feet, and I think that is very generous of me. However, you did please me tonight, so I suppose I can grant you something. You have until I retrieve Stefan," Klaus said before releasing his hold on her.

Elena stepped away from him and turned around to face him.

"Rebekah will be supervising you. Should either of you try to run, she has the authority to do what it takes to stop you, short of permanently killing you. And should that happen, I will kill everyone else in this room. Understand?" Klaus asked.

Elena nodded.

Klaus smirked and headed out of the room.

"This can't be happening," Caroline said as she hugged Tyler.

"It was always going to happen. The only question was when. I'm just sorry that it's costing you and Tyler too," Elena said.

"It's okay. If Klaus wants me to go with him, I'm okay with that," Tyler said.

Caroline pulled out of his arms. "What?"

"He and Elena just saved me. If I have to leave for a while, I'm okay with it," Tyler said. He was so grateful to both of them. He never had to turn into a werewolf again thanks to them. He owed them both.

Elena frowned a little. It seemed a bit unlike Tyler to be so accepting of the situation. They were being kidnapped. He should be able to see that.

"Elena, how are you a hybrid? And when did you find out?" Bonnie asked.

"My best guess is that the sacrifice changed something inside me. I can't be sure, but I think it transferred the werewolf curse to me. Obviously, I became a vampire because of Damon. And I've known since a couple of days after I transitioned. My eyes changed when I was angry," Elena explained.

"We thought it was best not to tell anyone. The more people who knew, the more likely it would be that be that Klaus would find out," Caroline said.

"But, Elena, even if you received the werewolf curse, you would still have to trigger it," Bonnie said.

Elena said nothing in response.

"You lied to me. You killed someone?" Bonnie asked in horror.

"She couldn't help it. She was in transition and needed blood. She couldn't control herself. And she didn't lie to you, I did. I knew you wouldn't understand, and the last thing she needed was to be judged for her natural instincts," Caroline said.

Bonnie turned back to Elena. "And did you kill someone tonight? You've got blood on you."

"I wasn't given a choice in the matter! Klaus bit Chad and then threw him at me to finish him off. I was already having issues with control," Elena said. She had enough guilt over killing Chad. The last thing she needed was for Bonnie to add to it.

"So, you killed him?" Bonnie asked angrily.

"Oh, get over yourself. She's a bloody hybrid, a vampire. It's in her nature to feed on blood," Rebekah said. She didn't even like the doppelganger. She wanted her dead just for being loved by Stefan. But she hated the judgement that witches cast on her kind.

"Look, we don't have a lot of time. Klaus will be back with Stefan any minute, and then Tyler and I will have to go," Elena said sadly.

Caroline sobbed. She felt so guilty. If she hadn't insisted on senior prank night, this never would've happened. "I'm so sorry, Elena. I shouldn't have made you come here."

Elena shook her head. "In the long run, it wouldn't have mattered. Maybe it's for the best anyway. I can barely be in the same room with Jeremy or Alaric without having to make a conscious effort not to rip their throats out. I need you guys to look after them for me, especially Jeremy."

"We will, I promise. We'll explain everything and we'll make sure they both stay safe," Caroline promised.

"And I need your word that you won't come after us," Elena said.

"Elena…"

"No, Caroline. The only thing that is getting me through this is knowing that Klaus won't be a threat to you guys. If you come after us, he will kill you. I can't handle that. Promise me," Elena said firmly.

Caroline reluctantly nodded. "Okay, I promise. But I doubt Damon will back off, especially when he finds out Klaus has you too."

"If Damon gets himself killed, that's his problem," Elena said. She had not forgiven Damon for what he did. She probably never would. He could never undo the damage he did when he forced her to drink his blood.

Caroline hugged her friend. "I'm so sorry. I love you."

"I love you too, care. I'll look out for Tyler, I promise," Elena promised.

Caroline nodded and pulled away. "Look out for yourself too. Don't let Klaus break you. No matter what he does, no matter what he makes you do, don't turn it off."

"I promise," Elena said. She would never turn her humanity off. She didn't believe in that kind of thing. It was a coward's way out. Damon used to talk about how he'd do it when he didn't want to feel guilt. It was almost like he thought that that somehow made it okay to do terrible things. It didn't. She would not use it as an excuse to hurt people. If she was forced to hurt people, the least she could do was feel the remorse she deserved to feel.

Caroline went over to Tyler and cried in his arms.

"It's going to be okay. I'll be fine," Tyler promised her.

Matt walked over to Elena. He had tears in his eyes. "Will I ever see you again."

"I think you should hope that you don't. If we come back here, it won't mean anything good," Elena said before hugging her friend. "I love you, Matt. I know you're having a hard time right now. I hope it gets better. Things should get better for at least one of us."

"I'm so sorry, Elena," Matt said as he hugged her tightly.

Elena let go of Matt and turned to Bonnie, who made no move to approach and looked at her like she was some sort of monster. Elena couldn't say she was surprised. "I know you don't think much of me right now, but I'd like to know what you would do if you woke up one day with a thirst for blood that you couldn't control."

"I wouldn't kill people," Bonnie said.

"I thought that too once," Elena said.

Just then, Klaus entered the room again with Stefan in tow. "Alright, the time for goodbyes is over. Let's go, you two."

Stefan appeared confused. He'd woken up a few minutes ago in the gym with two dead humans nearby. He hadn't killed either of them. The last thing he remembered was Elena coming at him. She wasn't human anymore. He hadn't had time to digest that because Klaus' compulsion had still been in effect. "What's going on?"

"Oh, it's quite simple. The problem involving my hybrids has been solved thanks to Elena here. Oh, and I have good news for you. She'll be joining us on our little adventure," Klaus said with a smirk before motioning for his two hybrids to join him.

Elena reluctantly started walking towards him.

Stefan got in between Klaus and Elena. "No, Klaus, you don't need her. She doesn't matter. You have me. I'll do whatever you want."

Rebekah sneered in disgust at the lengths Stefan seemed to be willing to go for the stupid doppelganger.

"I know you will, Stefan. You're compelled to do so. But Elena's coming with us," Klaus said firmly.

"He'd sooner let you go than let me go, Stefan," Elena said.

"She's right. She's more valuable than you could ever be. You want to do the honors, sweetheart?" he asked Elena.

"Not particularly. Let's just go," Elena said as she made her way over to him. She didn't have another explanation in her right now. She just wanted to leave if she was going to be forced to.

"Have it your way," Klaus said before closing his hand around her upper arm and leading the way out. Stefan, Rebekah, and Tyler followed them.
