Elena woke up the next morning hungry. Actually, she went to bed hungry, but she didn't dare ask Klaus for blood. Most likely, he'd make her go out and kill someone. She knew that was going to happen soon anyway, but she wanted to avoid it as long as possible.

She made her way down the kitchen, which was no easy task. The house was huge and she didn't know her way around yet. When she finally found the kitchen, she made a beeline for the fridge. She looked around and found some blood bags in the drawer. She immediately grabbed one.

Elena was about to tear open the bag when she felt a harsh hand grab her wrist. She didn't even need to look up to see that it was Klaus, but she did look for confirmation. Unfortunately, she wasn't wrong.

"Now, I thought I told you that you would be feeding from the vein from now on," Klaus said before taking the blood from her hand and putting it back in the fridge.

"Well, there aren't any humans here. Do you want me to starve? Is that part of your plan to torture me?" Elena asked irritably. Honestly, a part of her wished that was his plan. What he was going to make her do was much worse.

"On the contrary, love. I brought you breakfast," Klaus said before motioning to the back door.

Elena turned to see a dark-haired woman who looked to be in her twenties or thirties standing there smiling. She'd obviously been compelled. "No."

"Now, Elena, you were just telling me you were hungry. Come on," Klaus said before taking her arm and pulling her towards the woman.

Elena dug her heels in and tried to pull away, but Klaus dragged her along until she was right in front of the woman. "Don't do this."

"Shh. I've made it easy for you. She's not even going to fight you. Go on. Drink," Klaus said before releasing her arm.

Elena shook her head and tried and went to back away.

Klaus put his hands on her shoulders to keep her in place. "Do it or I'll compel you."

Elena knew he couldn't compel her, but he didn't know that. She was almost willing to let him know he couldn't so she wouldn't have to kill this woman, but she knew it wouldn't matter. He'd make her anyway. He'd either bite the woman himself, which would cause Elena to lose what little control she currently had, or he would threaten Stefan again. Either way, he'd get what he wanted.

"What's it going to be, love?" Klaus asked.

"I'm sorry," Elena cried before lunging forward and biting the woman's neck.

"That's it," Klaus said with a smirk as he watched.

Just then, footsteps could be heard. Stefan entered the room moments later and he got a look at Elena feeding on some woman. "Elena, stop."

"No, Elena, keep going," Klaus said, not that he needed to. His hybrid made no indication that she'd even heard Stefan. "Stefan, it's rude to interrupt someone's breakfast, don't you think? Is it that you want her blood for yourself? Not to worry. You can go find your own meal soon enough. Elena is new. She still needs a little encouragement."

"Why are you doing this? It will eat away at her," Stefan said. It was one thing when Klaus made him do it. He could handle it. Eventually, he'd get back on the wagon. The guilt would be debilitating, but he could deal with it. Elena couldn't. She didn't know what this life was like. She was never supposed to find out.

Klaus shrugged. "She'll get over it eventually.

Elena let go after another moment and let the body fall to the floor. She started to cry, but she stopped herself. She wouldn't show weakness like that in front of Klaus.

"Well done, love," Klaus said.

"I hate you," Elena said with as much disdain in her voice as she could muster.

Klaus chuckled in response. "That's all right, love. We have an eternity for you to get over it."

Elena turned and glared at him. "Why are you doing this? What does it matter to you how I feed? Why are you intent in turning me into a monster? Are you just trying to torture me?"

"Oh, I'm not apposed to torture, but, no, that's not it. It's time to face reality, sweetheart. You're not human anymore. You're a hybrid now," Klaus said.

"I know that!" Elena snarled.

"But you're fighting it. You walk around and pretend your human, and that is useless to me. You're a hybrid, part vampire. Vampires feed on humans. They are food and entertainment. That is their purpose," Klaus said.

Elena stepped forward and shoved him. "Screw you! I won't treat people like that. I didn't ask for this."

Klaus growled before grabbing her arm and pulling her towards him. He gripped her chin with his free hand. He had no intention of compelling her, yet, but he was going to make sure she was paying attention. "You will do what I say you will do. You are mine! Get that through you head! It doesn't matter how or why you became what you are. It happened. You're going to learn to accept it and let go of these human morals. I'm really doing you a favor. Immortality will be much easier for you once you accept what you are."

"Let go!" Elena said as she pulled away from him hard.

Klaus let her go. He'd made his point. "If you insist on learning the hard way, so be it, but you will learn, Elena."

Stefan took her arm gently. He'd wanted to intervene before, but he couldn't. He was compelled to do what Klaus said, and Klaus had told him he wasn't allowed to interfere. "Are you okay?"

"Stop asking me that! No, I'm not okay," Elena said. She pulled away and went and sat down at the table.

Stefan sat down next to her. "I'm sorry this happened. I didn't want this for you."

"Well, it doesn't matter, does it? It happened, whether either of us wanted it to," Elena said. Grudgingly, she had to admit that Klaus was right about one thing. It didn't matter how she became what she was or whether she wanted it or not. It happened. There was nothing she could do about it. That didn't mean she'd be forgiving Damon anytime soon though.

Soon, Tyler and Rebekah came into the room. Rebekah glared at Stefan and Elena as she saw them sitting together. "It figures that I would find the two of you here together."

"Elena, are you okay?" Tyler asked as he came over and sat down. She looked really upset. He didn't know why, but that upset him. He wanted to help her if he could.

Elena sighed. She was really sick of people asking that, but she couldn't get mad at Tyler. He was just worried about her. She supposed Stefan was too, but it was different with him. Every time she looked at him, she saw pity in his eyes. She hated that. She didn't see that with Tyler. He was just concerned. "Yeah, I'll be fine, Tyler."

"Don't mind her, Tyler. She was a bit upset with her last meal. Speaking of which, I already told her, so I'll tell you now. You will be drinking from the vein unless I say otherwise. The blood bags are in case of emergencies," Klaus said.

"Okay," Tyler said. He really didn't like the idea of hurting people, but if Klaus thought it was best, he would do it. He knew what he was talking about.

"Stefan will take you to get your next meal. Stefan, you'll take care of the body over there as well," Klaus said as he pointed to the remains of Elena's breakfast.

"Tyler needs a daylight ring," Elena said. There had been no time for Bonnie to make him one before they were forced to leave. Honestly, Elena was a little worried that Bonnie might deactivate hers as well now that she knew she'd killed."

"Actually, he doesn't. You may as well take yours off too, love. It's just a tacky piece of jewelry. Hybrids don't burn in the sun because of their werewolf side," Klaus told her.

Elena hesitated as she looked down at her ring. She didn't exactly trust Klaus, but she also wasn't sure what he'd have to gain by lying.

Klaus chuckled. "It would be of no help to me if you burned to death, love. You're far too valuable to me for that."

Elena removed the ring and put it on the table.

Klaus looked at Stefan. "Well, you two, go on. There's nothing keeping you. We have a long day ahead of us."

Stefan looked at Elena. He didn't want to leave without her. He didn't want her left there with Klaus. Who knew what he'd do to her?

Klaus smirked as he realized what Stefan was thinking. "Elena stays here. After all, she's already eaten. I'm sure she feels no need to watch the two of you feed."

"I'll pass," Elena said through gritted teeth.

Stefan didn't want to go, but he knew he had to. The compulsion was already trying to force him to his feet to do what Klaus told him, so he stood up and went and grabbed the body.

Tyler followed him.

"I'll come as well. I could eat," Rebekah said before walking towards them.

"I think Stefan needs a bit of a wakeup call too," Klaus said once the others were gone. "He seems to think you need his protection. Apparently he didn't get the memo when you broke his neck. You're quite a bit stronger than him."

"Why don't you just let him go? You don't need him anymore," Elena said.

"Of course I do, sweetheart. He's keeping you in line. I know just what to do to make you comply when you resist too much," Klaus said with a smirk.

"If I do what you want, will you let him go?" Elena asked. She hated the very idea of the things she'd have to do for Klaus, but she also couldn't stand the idea of having someone she loved used against her. Of course, that meant she and Stefan were over, but she didn't think their relationship would last much longer anyway. She could see in his eyes that he couldn't accept what she was. Things could never be the same between them. She just wasn't the same girl he fell in love with, and she would stop being that person more and more because of Klaus.

Klaus seemed to ponder her question for a minute. "Perhaps once you've earned my trust, and provided you can do the same for me as he does."

"What do you want me to do?" Elena asked, almost hating herself for even asking.

"I want you to do everything, Elena. I want you to do whatever I say, and I want you to do it without me having to use force. Perhaps then I'll think of releasing Stefan. Your first task should be easy. Come with me to the basement. We're going to do some training. Once the others return, Tyler will join us. Later, you'll be able to do your shopping. Come on," Klaus said before walking away without making sure she was following.

Elena got up and followed him. At the very least, she'd be able to hit Klaus while they trained. That was probably going to be the highlight of her day.
