I'm sorry it's been so long since I updated. I know I updated this in the beginning of the year, then the rest of the winter, the spring and the summer passed. And I have updated all of my stories except for this. I've also posted a bunch of Oneshots and a birthday two-shot.
Update as of July 22d: Since yesterday morning, this is now the last story that is updated since I updated after New Year's.
"You're worth more than gold."
We were now, all of the students of the new directions were sitting around the stage in the auditorium. On Saturday, when she came over to my place. Lex had sung a song, whether it was to me or to someone else, it was a perfect ending to those friendship weeks.
Now, here we were at the last of April. And we were due to have the one week that Moa had obviously looked forward to all year.
That would be if we ever let go of what had been the past two weeks.
I was only the one that had thought Lex should sing that one song. Without even standing up, without a microphone and the only instrument used was her boyfriend's guitar.
"Okay, that's it." Mr. Schue said. "Now comes something I have never done before. But I promised Moa…" He patted her shoulder. "…in the beginning of the year. That when it's her birthday week. We will do a Swedish songs…."
"There's just one more song to do for friendship." Johnny said and interrupted our teacher. "Seriously! We just can't do two full weeks of friendship without doing this one."
"Then why haven't you done it yet?" Moa seemed downright hurt. I couldn't blame her. "If you've had two weeks."
"But there's been so many songs we needed to do and we forgot about this one until now."
"Is it in Swedish?"
"No… English."
Moa didn't ask or protest or anything else. While Tyler grabbed his acoustic guitar and the boys started playing and singing before anyone would have had the time to think of anything to say.
Everybody knew this song though, and with Tyler's acoustic guitar as the only instrument. We were soon singing along all of us, despite that I saw Moa sitting quiet through the whole song, then- while it ended she grabbed her bag and walked through the whole group without a word.
"Moa?" Mr. Schue was at last the one who found his words. "Where you're going? We're about to start this week now."
"Look! I can see the look on everybody's faces when the word Swedish is mentioned…." Moa took a few steps closer to the curtains. "I don't even know why I'm trying but… I'm not as homesick now as I was in the beginning of the year when Mr. Schue promised me a Swedish week. So…. I guess there's just no point in trying…"
Moa left the stage looking slumped, and I couldn't think of anything to say. Neither it seemed like anyone else did.
To be honest, I had looked forward to this week. Even though Moa was the only one in the group that understood the songs…
"I actually thought this could be fun after everything that's happened the past few months… And just like that. We've all just screwed it up. If I was Moa then I would leave like that too. Rafaél. Wouldn't you if all songs were in Spanish?"
"Well." Of course, among everyone Teeghan was the one who would protest. "…People all around know Spanish. Only Moa knows Swedish. So wasn't it doomed all the time to end before it had even started…. I have to go to class now."
I left the auditorium, but the whole day and through my classes I couldn't stop thinking of Moa and the look on her face before she left. And I, for the gazillionth time was wondering what to do just as the last class ended. I hadn't had the chance to talk to Moa, but my phone suddenly buzzed with a message and Aiden's name.
Meeting on the stage after last class. Don't tell Moa.
I went to meet them and still it seemed like I was the last one there.
It was quiet though. And I just had to think of anything to say…
"I think that if I was Moa I would actually feel upset by a glee club theme that no one seemed interested in. But now we've screwed up and it's not like we can go back in time and start this week over." I suddenly saw something from the beginning of this year on the insides of my eyelids. "I can remember you guys all singing a song to me that you were sorry… anyway, maybe it's time to do some song like that again."
"Wait…" Aiden suddenly interrupted. "…Durinig this weekend I, Tyler, Connor and Johnny found a song. And we thought it was… fun. Anyway, if someone goes to get Moa- I and you three… well. To start with it's time for us to change clothes. Because doing this song in jeans and letterman jackets just wouldn't be right."
"I can go and get her." I said and got up myself. "And I also can't wait to see what you have planned."
"Well…" Aiden glanced around the group while he smirked. "Be prepared for a surprise… It's even got a few words in Spanish so you can join us Rafaél… When is your birthday by the way? Maybe we can have something special for your birthday."
"My birthday's in October." Rafaél said with an ironic tone. "Wow! I'm so disappointed knew about my birthday then… So disappointed!"
I shook my head at him, but along with the boys who were going to sing were smirking towards one another, I left the room and then tried to figure where Moa was…
I did find her quickly, she was in the choir room sitting on the piano… she didn't hear me coming, and I walked into the choir room. I was completely silent while she sang and her voice sounded so shaky and sad.
"Moa…"
Despite not having understood any little bit of the lyrics, as the song ended I had shivers. Moa still didn't look at me and only looked so slumped and tired.
"What?"
"You'll have to come back to the auditorium. Apparently some of the boys… Tyler, Connor, Aiden and Johnny have planned something. And whatever it is… knowing these four- I think we're in for a big surprise!"
"I don't really feel like a Swedish week anymore."
"I know…" I thought back to how I wouldn't even have joined the new directions if it wasn't for Jonah. "….But well… It seemed like they had thought of something… something nobody else would have thought of…. And they said, that the title is in Spanish so even Rafaél can feel like home and…"
"Will you stop talking if I actually come with you?"
"Sure… But I know that I can't wait to see what they had thought of. If there's anything I know it's that these boys will always do their best to make us laugh."
And make us laugh they did, just as we came into the auditorium we found all the boys dressed up in colorful, glitter- dresses, along with boas and wigs- some of those also colorful. And I really had seen nothing like them before.
Moa seemed to be dragging her feet along the floor. Just as she came in after me, she shook her head slightly and her expression changed.
"Oh my God…" She almost whispered. "You didn't… You absolutely didn't."
They obviously did because they put on the song, started dancing, Moa put a hand over her mouth and clearly recognized it from the start.
And just like we had thought I didn't understand a word. Except for a few words that were in Spanish for some reason.
I kept on glancing towards Moa, and her eyes had grown big as she watched the boys, the same boys that had been singing another song in English only earlier today, dance and sing as if there was no tomorrow.
"That is defifnitely not a new song." Moa said as soon as the song had ended. "I had never thought I'd hear it again ever. Despite listening to it ten thousand times when I was little. But wow… I had forgotten all about it and now… And I can't believe you did this."
"So…" Connor started a bit nervously "is Swedish week on again?"
"Well…" Moa hit her arms out to her sides. "If I'll get more chances to see some numbers like that. How could I say anything against it?"
"Yay-"
I raised my hands in the air as I, and everyone else cheered. And Moa's usual smile and the glitter were back.
"Well…. I do know some songs that will fit for some of you. But I think this one was a confirmation it will be the most interesting if you find and decide on how to do the songs for yourselves… And now I just can't wait to see it. I've been looking forward to this all year… especially since Wednesday is my birthday."
Once again everybody were cheering, and then we started leaving the room. Then, for the first time today I could see Moa smiling and I had to say I agreed- I was looking forward to this.
Now…. I couldn't find a way to find any song to sing. There must be something but how was I supposed to find it?
"Leah wait…" Moa ran up to me in the hallway when I was going through the hallway, and pulled out a couple of paper sheets from her bag and handed them to me. "Something just tells me you should do this one, for Jonah." I glanced over the lyrics- it was all in Swedish. "It's called… I got to lend an angel."
I would have said more, but Moa had found someone else walking through the hallway so she turned and ran up to them. I only kept staring at the papers in my hands…
Now… what did these even mean?
