Chapter 29
Disclaimer: I don't own glee or this story
"You're going to love Christmas." Taylor told Skylar, who was sitting on her big sister's bed, watching her closely, a stuffed animal in her hands.
Taylor was busy cleaning up her bedroom, putting away toys and clothes that were all over, wanting to be on her best behavior since Christmas Eve was the next night, even though she was pretty well behaved all year, she didn't want to take any chances. Brittany and Santana were at an office party for Brittany's job, which was doubted as a going away party as well.
Mrs. Lopez was visiting a friend of hers that lived in New York, leaving Mr. Lopez to watch the girls. He was busily cooking dinner for them, wanting to surprise them so had Taylor stay upstairs with Skylar.
Skylar watched Taylor run around her room, quickly putting clothes away in her closet and drawers. "Tay."
"What's up?" Taylor smiled, turning around to face her sister, she saw Skyler reaching for something on the desk next to bed and shook her head. "You can't play with that." She told her sister, picking up an ink stamper that she used to decorate Christmas cards for her moms. She put it in her backpack and set the bag in her closet. Skylar frowning but shrugging slightly and reaching into the bowl on the bed next to her to grab a piece of popcorn.
Taylor walked over and kissed her sister on the cheek, slipping Skylar's sneakers off of her feet, pulling her socks up higher. "Since momma and mami are at a party, I'll give you a bath after dinner, then we can watch a movie with Papi."
Skylar smiled brightly at her grandfather's name, nodding when Taylor did. "Papi."
"Yep." Taylor replied. "He'll watch cartoons with us too, maybe even give us ice cream!" She added excitedly.
Skylar shook her head quickly. "No ice."
Taylor sat on the bed with her sister and frowned, "you don't want ice cream?"
"No." The baby shook her head quickly.
"What treat do you want?"
"Cookie." Skylar mumbled while shaking her head.
Taylor smiled. "We can ask Papi to bake some cookies, I'll ask for you." She assured her little sister, who smiled happily and kicked her legs.
Taylor jumped up and began to finish tidying up her room, Skylar continuing to watch her closely. "Oh, Berkeley emailed me pictures from Florida, it's so pretty there. She went with her family for Christmas, there's no snow!" She laughed as she ran and picked up her ipad, she scrolled to the pictures she saved and held them up for Skylar to see. "Look, she's outside in shorts!"
"Berk." Skylar smiled, pointing at the picture.
"Yep, that's Berkeley, I gotta tell her you remember her name." Taylor laughed, she looked at the time and noticed it was after her allotted internet time so wrote it down on a piece of paper so she would remember to email her in the morning.
"That's how it'll be in Arizona next year for Christmas." She told Skylar. "No snow there either, maybe we'll have a barbecue, that'll be kind of cool." She shrugged.
Skylar set her stuffed animal down and crawled to the headboard to pull herself into the standing position. She reached for one of Taylor's posters on the wall, but when she couldn't reach it she turned to face her sister, and began to jump in the bed, screeching and giggling to herself.
Taylor looked up at her and laughed. "You have to be careful." She told her, she walked over and grabbed Skylar's hand, she led her to the middle of the bed. "Stay right here and jump."
Skylar stared at her and smiled brightly, before getting distracted by the bright colors in her sweatshirt and staring at them instead. "Puppy!"
"Good job, that's a puppy on your shirt." Taylor nodded. "I wonder if we got a puppy for Christmas, mami and momma are spending a lot of time in the basement, and they only go down there to wash clothes."
"Puppy!" Skylar nodded and pointed to her shirt again.
"Yep, just like this one." Taylor nodded.
"Taylor, bring Princess Skylar down for dinner, por favor." Mr. Lopez called up the stairs.
"Okay, Papi." Taylor yelled back. "Come on Sky." She picked her up and carried her out of the room, Skylar, resting her head on Taylor's shoulder and holding her tightly.
"So jealous of you two moving to Arizona." Glenda, one of Brittany's friends at work, smiled. "But I am going to really miss you around the office."
"I'm going to miss you all so much." Brittany nodded. "It's such a bittersweet move."
Santana walked over to Brittany, wearing a fitted dark green velvet dress that stopped just below her knee. Her hair was swept to the side in loose curls, her wedding ring sparkling in the bright lights, as well as the diamond bracelet on her wrist. She handed Brittany one of the glasses of champagne she was holding, she blushed when Brittany kissed her on the cheek and leaned into Brittany's embrace as the blonde wrapped her arm around her waist.
"So Santana, I have some friends down in the Phoenix area, they might be great contacts when you start looking for work again." Glenda stated.
Santana took a sip of her champagne and nodded. "Thanks, Glenda, but I'm going to take a little time off and help the girls get settled with the move. We haven't decided how much time off, but I'm thinking 6 months or so?" She looked up at Brittany, who shrugged slightly.
"That's up to you, Santana." She replied.
"Well, I can't wait to come visit." Glenda smiled, before walking away when she spotted a friend.
Brittany grabbed Santana's hand and led her to the side by the windows. "I'm going to miss this view." She told her wife quietly.
Santana moved to stand in front of Brittany and looked out at the bright lights of the city, Brittany's current office was on the 30th floor of the building and had an amazing view that she loved. She wrapped her arm around Santana's waist, rubbing her stomach slowly and kissed her wife on the temple.
"This is a gorgeous view." Santana agreed, she turned and kissed Brittany quickly.
"Sorry, I know this is a work event for you." She whispered, looking around.
"It's okay." Brittany laughed.
"What's wrong?" Santana asked.
"I'm nervous to leave my team, my department, New York...am I making the right decision?" Brittany asked.
Santana looked around and grabbed Brittany's hand. "Come with me." She led them through the room, hugging and greeting people that came up to congratulate Brittany on the promotion and ask about their girls. Once they finally reached the other side of the room, Santana pulled Brittany out of and led her down the hall to her office, locking the door once they were inside.
She sat on the couch and patted the space next to her for Brittany to join her. "It's okay to be nervous, Brittany, I'm nervous too, but we are in this together. You've worked your ass off for this company and it's paid off. I remember how nervous you were for the interview, how excited you were when you got the job offer, and how proud you were of yourself when you got home after your first day. You deserve this, but no I don't think you made the right decision. I know you did." Santana smiled. "Words can't even describe how proud I am of you."
Brittany nodded as Santana leaned forward and pressed their lips together.
"So, so proud of you." She winked.
"Thank you." Brittany replied. "Sorry, I just had a moment, it could be nostalgia or the holiday or...I don't know."
Santana kissed her again and stood up. "The holidays always make me super nostalgic, especially Christmas day now, because you took a leap of faith and met me in Lima...our lives restarted from that day, when you gave me a second chance with you. So if you can get through that, you can get through a new job."
"I love you." Brittany smiled.
"I love you, too. So much, baby." Santana told her. "Let's go see what other gifts you got." She laughed. "I saw some pretty big boxes, so luckily we took my truck."
"More." Skylar said softly, staring at her grandfather.
Mr. Lopez smiled and kissed her on the cheek, tickling her ear with his mustache. "Papi will get you more." The elder man jumped up and ran to the stove, he cut another piece of meatloaf and set it on Skylar's plate. She watched him break it into smaller pieces for her and handed her fork to her.
Taylor wiped her mouth and watched Skylar fumble with the fork before finally getting a grip on it and smiling happily as she started to eat again. "This is really good, Papi."
"You like my cooking?" He smiled.
Taylor nodded. "I like this." She replied.
"Good to hear, I know Skylar is a little picky so seeing her eat makes me extremely happy." Mr. Lopez noted, glancing at the baby, who was focused on her food.
Taylor watched Skylar and gave her a thumbs up before beginning to eat again.
"Are you going to come visit in Arizona?"
"Si, every chance I get." He assured her. "I know your moms will be busy with work and getting everything settled initially, but Buela and I will come visit as soon as we can."
"Cool." Taylor smiled happily. "Hey Papi, can we make cookies for dessert?"
Skylar heard the world cookie and looked up right away, barbeque sauce all around her mouth and screeched. "Cookie!"
"If you both finish your dinner, and get bathed for the night, then we can make some cookies and watch a Christmas movie, how does that sound?" Mr. Lopez winked.
"Come on, Sky, finish your meatloaf and you'll get your cookies." Taylor told her sister.
20 minutes later Taylor was helping Skylar with her bath, the baby happily playing with her bath toys, driving her train through the suds. Taylor was in the bath with her sister, sitting behind her and washing her back when there was a knock on the door. "Yes, Papi?"
Mr. Lopez opened the door slightly, wanting to give Taylor her privacy since she was a little older now, so he didn't enter the bathroom at all. "I just wanted to check on you two and see if you needed anything, should I turn up the heat?"
"No, we are okay, getting ready to get out in a few minutes." Taylor told him.
"Wait until I warm up some towels and bring them to you, give me five minutes." He told them before going to the linen closet in the hall and grabbing towels for them, he then ran to the basement and tossed them in the dryer. He waited impatiently, tapping his foot, for the towels to get warm enough before running back upstairs, he once again knocked, before shielding his line of vision and stepping in the bathroom, setting the towels down.
"Nice and warm for you two. I'll be downstairs in the family room, Tay."
"Gracias Papi." Taylor replied.
Taylor waited until the door clicked close and drained the water, she then turned Skylar to face her and held her tightly as she stood up. She grabbed a towel and wrapped up Skylar right away and set her on the toilet, she then wrapped the towel around herself. After picking up her sister again she carried her to her bedroom and got her dressed in one of her numerous pairs of Christmas footed pajamas. Taylor put on a matching pair, pulling her hair into a bun on the top of her head. She brushed Skylar's hair and put it in a ponytail on the top of her head before grabbing a pacifier and handing it to her. Skylar held it tightly in one hand, her other hand holding Taylor's hand as they made their way downstairs.
"I know you wanted to make cookies, but it's a little late for Skylar with all that sugar so how about these?" Mr. Lopez smiled, holding up a bag of yogurt covered pretzels.
"Those are good." Taylor smiled.
Skylar shook her head quickly. "Cookie." She demanded.
"You'll get cookies tomorrow." Mr. Lopez told her, he handed Taylor the bag of pretzels. "Can you put these in a bowl?"
"Sure, Papi." Taylor nodded and ran to the kitchen.
Mr. Lopez kneeled down to Skylar and poked her in the stomach, laughing when she was forced to drop her frown and a smile formed on her face as she covered her stomach and shook her head. "Bua?" She asked.
"Buela would love to make cookies with you tomorrow." Mr. Lopez nodded.
Skylar nodded with him and allowed him to pick her up, he settled on the couch and waited for Taylor to join them. The moment Mr. Lopez relaxed deeper into the couch Skylar cuddled close to him and laid on his chest, exhaling deeply. He kissed the top of her and smiled. "I think you're going to fall asleep anyways, so you didn't need that cookie."
"Cookie." Skylar mumbled, nodding slowly.
Taylor came back in the room and set the bowl on the table, Mr. Lopez opened his other hand to his eldest grandaughter and smiled when she laid down next to him, cuddling close as well. Mr. Lopez reached and grabbed the blanket from the back of the couch and covered them up, he then turned on the movie they picked out after dinner.
"Papi?"
"Yes, Tay?"
"I'm glad you're here for Christmas with Buela." Taylor told him, wrapping her arm around his waist and resting it on Skylar's back, the baby, who was sucking slowly on her pacifier, fighting her sleep. Skylar forced her eyes open and stared at Taylor, who kissed her on the forehead and focused on the video.
"I'm glad I'm here too." He nodded with a big smile.
Midnight
"Are you okay?" Santana asked. "Is this okay for your back?"
"Yeah, I think so." Brittany nodded, pulling Santana down and kissing her deeply, rolling the Latina's dress up so she could grip her wife's butt.
The Christmas party/Brittany's going away party winded down around 10:30pm, with everyone leaving the office by 11pm.
Brittany and Santana grabbed a bottle of champagne and headed to Brittany's office to talk, wanting to enjoy having a night to themselves. They opened the blinds wide, letting the view in, Brittany set her phone on the dock she had to the side and turned on Pandora. They sat on the couch and laughed and talked, Brittany recanting numerous work stories, some good, some bad; Santana intently listening to her, just as into the stories as Brittany was.
Their laughing and talking, mixed in with the champagne led them to kissing
passionately and laying on the couch in the office. Santana settled between Brittany's legs and ran her fingers through her wife's hair. She stared at Brittany before connecting their lips and kissing Brittany slowly.
"I need to get this dress off of you." Brittany told her, finding the zipper on her dress and pulling it down. Santana nodded and allowed Brittany to roll the dress down her body before kicking it off her feet. Santana then stood up and walked to the office door, double checking that it was locked.
Brittany sat up and licked her lips at Santana's body. "How did I get so lucky?" She whispered when Santana straddled her and reached around her to unzip her dress and carefully slide it down her body, placing soft kisses on her shoulders.
Santana kissing Brittany deeply, cupping her face, and moaning lowly as Brittany gripped her butt and smacked it loudly. "Fuck." Santana moaned when Brittany began to kiss down her neck.
"Look in the desk drawer, the very bottom on the right, and grab the piece." Brittany told her.
Santana laughed softly and raised an eyebrow at her wife. "Why do you have that here, at work?"
"From last year when you came here on my birthday and did the strip tease." Brittany reminded her.
"Oh shit...forgot about that." Santana laughed. "This office has seen some of our best moves." She winked as she grabbed the piece and put it in the harness, she carried it over to the couch and set it down.
"It will be our very best tonight." Brittany nodded, she stood and took the rest of her clothes off so she was completely naked. She unhooked Santana's bra and pulled down her panties, kneeling down to lick her wife immediately after.
Santana parted her legs as Brittany sat on the couch and lifted one of her wife's legs over her shoulder, she leaned back and guided Santana with her as she began to skillfully lick the Latina, the tan legs around her shaking.
Mrs. Lopez walked quietly in the house, an instant smile on her face at the sight of her husband fast asleep with their granddaughters laying on him. Skylar was lying flush on his chest, a contented smile on her face as she held him tightly, Taylor was cuddled by his side, her face right next to her sisters. Mr. Lopez had his strong arms holding both girls tightly. She kissed her husband on the lips, his eyes slowly opening and focusing on his wife.
"Hola mi amor." He whispered.
"Hola Rafael." She replied. "Should I help you take the girls upstairs?"
"No, I don't want to move them, I'll stay right here with them." He smiled, kissing the both of them on the top of the head softly.
Mrs. Lopez nodded, she adjusted the gate in front of the fire, making sure it was contained, she smiled at the Christmas tree and set down the three big bags of gifts she got from her friends around the tree for the girls. She then grabbed an extra blanket and covered them up, kissing her granddaughters in the process.
"How is Delores?" Mr. Lopez asked when Skylar shifted in his arms.
"She's doing good, Paul asked about you." She replied. "We are going to get coffee with them before we leave."
"Sounds good." He whispered.
"Good night." She winked before heading upstairs. She noticed Brittany and Santana's bedroom door was still open, so she knew they were still out for the night. She set a present on what she knew was Santana's side of the bed, and set a card on her pillow before leaving the room, and taking a long hot shower herself, getting in bed right away after.
Christmas Eve, 6pm
Brittany laughed as Santana and her father danced around the living room, Mrs. Lopez recorded them, a big smile on her face.
Santana and Brittany tiptoed in the house early that morning around 6am, having fallen asleep at Brittany's office after making love for several hours. They smiled at Mr. Lopez, still fast asleep with the girls, taking a number of pictures of the three of them. Mrs. Lopez woke up and made a big breakfast for everyone, Santana getting out of bed, as tired as she was to help her mother cook, both putting aside their differences to have a nice, peaceful holiday.
Brittany and Santana then played outside in the snow with the girls for a few hours, before watching Christmas movies with them after lunch. They talked to Brittany's parents on Skype, Skylar smiling at them and waving as Taylor told as many stories as she could in the short amout of time. While Mrs. Lopez prepared for Christmas dinner, Brittany hung out with her girls and Mr. Lopez, the four of them working on one of Skylar's puzzles. Santana sat in their bedroom and opened the present from her mother and read the card quietly to herself. She tucked them away in her dresser drawer and went downstairs to join the family. She turned on some music and pulled her father up to dance, always loving dancing with him as a little girl.
Skylar clapped excitedly, watching the two of them. She climbed on the couch and smiled, point to Santana and yelling mami occassionally. Taylor ran over to Brittany and began to dance around with her, Mr. Lopez singing along to the music. Santana turned to Skylar and picked her up, dancing around the living room with the baby, as Mr. Lopez danced his way over to his wife and twirled her around.
"Come on, Maria, show these young girls you still have the moves." Mr. Lopez teased.
Mrs. Lopez nodded. "Oh I can still move." She laughed, as she began to dance with her husband. Santana locked eyes with Brittany and smiled.
"That'll be us at that age too." Brittany nodded and assured her, knowing what Santana was silently asking.
"I think it's time to make cookies for Santa." Brittany announced when the song ended and everyone stopped dancing.
"Cookie!" Skylar nodded happily. "Bua and cookies." She added, pointing at her grandmother.
"You want your Buela to make cookies with you?" Santana asked, kissing her on the cheek.
Mrs. Lopez blushed, "she wants homemade cookies and not the dough I saw in your fridge." She teased her daughter, kissing her on the cheek as she grabbed her granddaughter.
"Yep, she's all yours then." Santana laughed.
"I'm going to get more wood for the fire." Mr. Lopez stated, grabbing his coat and heading outside.
Once the women were in the kitchen, Mrs. Lopez passed out Santa Little Helper's aprons to everyone. Taylor excitedly put hers on as Brittany smiled at the mini one for Skylar and velcroed it on her, Skylar looked down at it the entire time before smiling happily and sitting on the counter next to Santana.
"What kind are we making mami?" Santana asked her mother.
"Santa told me he wants chocolate chips, sugar, and peanut butter." Mrs. Lopez laughed.
"You know Santa?" Taylor asked with a smile.
Mrs. Lopez nodded. "We talk quite often."
"Cool." Taylor blushed as Mrs. Lopez assigned tasks to everyone, handed Skylar a small rolling pin to hold, which she did tightly while she looked around at all of the action.
After they made cookies they set them on a tray next to the tree, Mr. Lopez smiling at the display, excited about the cookies he would eat later. They had a light dinner of soup and sandwiches before relaxing around the fireplace and watching A Christmas Story on tv. Taylor came running down the stairs and sat on the floor next to Skylar with their Christmas lists in her hand. "I saved a copy so we could see if Santa brought everything." She told Skylar excitedly.
The baby matched her smile and crawled in her lap as Taylor began to read Skylar's list to her, explaining what each toy on the list did, and how it would look. Skylar would glance up at her sister and smile before staring back at the paper. Santana listened as Taylor went over the list with Skylar, making a mental check in her brain that they got everything, she glanced at Brittany and noticed she was doing the same thing.
"And finally a puppy!" Taylor said loudly.
"Puppy!" Skylar nodded and mimicked.
Satnana raised an eyebrow at her wife before cuddling close and leaning into her embrace and sighing in contentment.
5am
Taylor woke up and glanced at the clock, she smiled and jumped out of bed quickly. She ran to her bathroom, washing her face and brushing her teeth in record time before running down the hall to Skylar's room. The baby was still asleep, so Taylor reached through the bars of her crib and rubbed her hand to wake her up. "Santa came!" She whispered to her.
Skylar stirred and woke up, a frown on her face as she looked around, she was much like Santana and didn't like being woken up at all for any reason. She focused on Taylor and exhaled deeply before smiling at her sister when Taylor kissed her hand. "We have to go see what Santa brought you."
Skylar sat up slowly and began to rub her eyes so Taylor stepped on the step stool and lifted her out of the crib. "Merry Christmas Sky." She hugged her tightly and grabbed a baby wipe to clean her face, she then walked her to her bathroom and brushed her teeth for her, Skylar sleepily sitting still and holding Taylor's shirt tightly. "Let's go get momma and mami." She told her when she was done.
She set Skylar on the floor and held her hand as they made their way to the master bedroom. Taylor knocked softly before pressing her ear to the door, listening for any sounds, when she didn't hear any she opened the door and ran in, Skylar moving slowly behind her and climbing in bed.
Santana was lying on her stomach, fast asleep, Brittany laying close to her, her hand on Santana's lower back, fast asleep as well.
"It's Christmas!" Taylor screamed, startling them awake.
Santana jumped and ended up elbowing Brittany in the stomach. "Shit." Brittany mumbled, grabbing her stomach. "Merry Christmas Taylor."
"Sorry." Taylor smiled.
"It's okay, baby." Brittany nodded as Santana quickly turned around and kissed all over Brittany's face to apologize.
"Merry Christmas Tay." Santana smiled, sitting up and lifting Skylar in the bed, since she was standing on the side of the bed. "Merry Christmas Smiley." She then stated, tickling Skylar.
"Let's go see what Santa brought!" Brittany said happily, jumping out of bed and running out of the room, Taylor right behind her.
Santana laughed at Skylar's face as she watched them run out of the room, and wiggled to get out of Santana's arms.
"Okay, let's go." She yawned and set her daughter down, laughing when Skylar ran out of the room as well. She grabbed her Santa hat from the dresser and set it on, running out of the room to make sure that Skylar didn't go down the stairs by herself, knowing if she was excited and began to rush, she would fall.
When Santana got downstairs with Skylar, she saw Taylor running around the tree, her blue eyes scanning all the boxes, she set Skylar down and watched her jump around in a circle before running to the tree as well. "Merry Christmas." Brittany smiled, handing Santana a mug of coffee.
"Merry Christmas." Santana winked, kissing her deeply as her parents walked in the living room.
"I have the camera ready, let's open some gifts." Mr. Lopez smiled as Santana walked over and hugged her mother.
"Merry Christmas, mami." She smiled, kissing her on the cheek.
