Chapter 30

Friday 9pm
"Do you miss momma?" Taylor asked, turning to look up at her mother. Santana was sitting on the edge of the couch, leaning back on the arm, Taylor cuddled on her side, while Skylar slept on her chest. The three finished dinner an hour ago, and after Santana cleaned up the kitchen and got Skylar bathed and into pajamas, she told Taylor to pick out a movie for them to relax and watch before bed, letting her stay up an extra hour since it was Friday night and she already finished half of her homework.
"Of course." Santana nodded, hugging her tightly and kissing the top of Skylar's head, the little Latina smiling in her sleep. "But, being with my two little loves makes up for it."
"You're not mad I asked you to stay?" Taylor asked.
Santana paused the movie and lifted Taylor's chin so she could look in her eyes. "No." She said firmly. "I told you Tay, whatever decision you wanted, we were okay with. You wanted me here, honey, and I want to be here. You were our first concern, if you aren't comfortable than we aren't."
Taylor nodded. "I just don't want momma to think I'm hogging you or anything, because she's your best friend, and I know how super important best friends are."
Santana hummed. "Best friends are very important, but your mom knows that she has to share me sometimes, and definitely doesn't mind sharing me with you two, and I'm going to visit her next week for two days, so it's okay. You'll be okay without Sky and me for a few days right?"
"Right." Taylor nodded. "Aunt Quinn said we are going to do some fun stuff after school as long as I finish my homework."
"Homework comes first, and I want you to listen to what Aunt Quinn tells you to do, no back talk." Santana reminded her.
Brittany left last Friday to head to Arizona to start her new role, after a teary goodbye between the two, and a few tears from Taylor, Brittany kissed all over Skylar's face, the baby having fallen asleep waiting for Brittany's plane to take off. That night Santana let both girls sleep with her after FaceTiming with Brittany who gave them all a tour of her condo that the company provided her with, once the girls fell asleep Santana sat on FaceTime and watched Brittany unpack before each of them did some work quietly. Even though they weren't talking, they wanted to feel like they were still right for each other so they kept FaceTime going until Brittany heard Santana start to snore lightly, and kissed the phone before hanging up.
Taylor laid back on Santana when she started the movie again and placed her hand on Skylar's back, smiling at her sister, who was facing her. "Sky must be really tired."
"I think she was, but she also doesn't feel too great too, she has a fever so I think the medicine I gave her is making her sleepy too." Santana smiled. "She's okay, her fever will fade away." She added when she saw the worry on Taylor's face, feeling Skylar's neck and hands.
Taylor kissed her on the forehead softly and nodded. "Well I know momma shares you as her best friend with her, but she's your lover too, right?" She asked, furrowing her eyebrows. "Does she share you as a lover with us?"
"Taylor Quinn Lopez-Pierce, where did you learn that word?" Santana asked harshly.
"You two love each other, cuz you're married, or you're married cuz you love each other. Your lover is someone you love, like I love Berkeley cuz she's my best friend, and we're lovers cuz I know she loves me as her best friend." Taylor tried to explain, wondering why Santana was so upset. "Did I say something wrong?"
Santana sighed and rubbed her eyes harshly. "Britt is never around for these moments." She groaned to herself. "Let me take Sky Sky to bed then we can talk. Stay right here." She stood up with Skylar, rubbing her back and carrying her up to her crib. She kissed her softly on the forehead when Skylar began to whine a little and stir, waking up slightly. Santana rubbed her back, coaxing her back to sleep. She grabbed the thermometer and ran it over Skylar's head, nodding when she saw her fever was coming down, and the baby was only at 99.3 degrees. Grabbing the baby monitor she turned on the new elephant night light and tapped the mobile to play a little music.
When Santana got back downstairs, Taylor was looking at a magazine while waiting patiently on the couch for her. "Okay, Tay." Santana tossed some pillows on the floor in front of the fireplace and sat down. Patting the space next to her for her daughter to join her, Santana took a deep breath as Taylor jogged over and took a seat next to her. "You can't call Berkeley your lover." She told her daughter quickly when she shuffled to sit crossed legged in front of her. "I know you love Berk as a best friend and that's great, but she's not your lover."
Taylor frowned. "But..."
Santana stared at her daughter, picking her words in her head carefully. "Do you know how sometimes momma and I tell you to stay in your room all night until morning, or when we are on vacation and we play with earmuffs?"
"Usually after you have grown up juice." Taylor smiled.
"Yes on vacation, when grown up juice is involved this happens." Santana mumbled to herself, a small chuckle sliding out.
"Lovers are married couples or boyfriends or girlfriends, or when a man and a woman are dating and a couple. They do some grown up things that make them lovers."
"What type of grown up things?" Taylor asked, cocking her head to the side slightly.
"You know that babies come from mommies and daddies doing grown up things right?" Santana asked carefully.
Taylor nodded shly. "Yeah kind of."
"Okay, well those are the things that lovers do together, but two men can do them or two women too, they just can't make babies together..." She began to ramble and stopped herself. "Lovers have sexual intercourse." She stated plainly. "You aren't having that...are you?"
"I don't know what it is?" Taylor frowned. "But I don't think so."
"Oh God." Santana nodded. "Okay, has anyone touched your privates, like have you let anyone, outside of when me or momma would help with a bath?"
"No." Taylor shake her head quickly and confidently.
"You haven't had sex, Tay." Santana replied. "How about when we get to Arizona we can sit down and talk to momma about all of this in more depth, and maybe it'll make a little more sense to you. But do you kind of understand?"
Taylor licked her lips slowly. "Since me and Berkeley don't touch each other's privates and kiss, which is grown up sex."
"Sex in general, no such thing as grown up sex." Santana clarified softly.
"Oh, well which is sex..."
"Stop, baby. How about we just leave it at you and Berkeley are best friends, okay?" Santana asked her softly. "You two aren't lovers, you don't have a lover."
"Okay." Taylor nodded.
"Any more questions?"
"Since it's the weekend, can I sleep with you?" Taylor asked her.
"Sure, how about we head up to bed now, and we can watch a movie in my room." Santana smiled, standing up and putting the fire out. "Can you fold up the blankets, please?" She watched as Taylor began to clean up around the living room and took a deep breath. "That was rough, and I think I failed." She groaned before accepting Taylor's hand and leading her upstairs. She picked her daughter up suddenly and playfully tossed her in bed, jumping on her and tickling her.
"Wait...mami!" Taylor laughed loudly, trying to roll away.
"I love you, Tay." Santana smiled when she stopped tickling her and kissed her on the forehead.
"I love you too, mami." Taylor smiled.
"Okay, you're in charge of picking a movie." Santana tossed her the remote as her phone chimed with a text from Brittany. She read the text and nodded.
FROM BRITTANY: Headed to a dinner meeting, I'll call you after, you don't have to wait up if you're tired. I love and miss you, kiss the girls for me.
TO BRITTANY: I am pretty exhausted, Taylor is sleeping with me tonight, and Sky has a little fever. Call after your meeting and hopefully I'm not too deep asleep and I'll answer, otherwise have a good night. Love and miss you too.
FROM BRITTANY: Is Sky okay?
TO BRITTANY: Yes, I got her fever down to around 99, she's fast asleep. I'm sure she'll be okay and will stay asleep all night, if not, I'll text you.
FROM BRITTANY: Okay. I emailed you some houses I found for us, I scheduled the open houses for us.
TO BRITTANY: Okay, I'll take a look tomorrow. I hate that we missed out on the other house.
FROM BRITTANY: I know you really liked it, I drove by it the other day and it's gorgeous. Did you sell my car yet?
TO BRITTANY: No, Quinn is going with me to the dealer before I come down there so it'll be sold by then, and we can get you a new car when I get there with the money.
FROM BRITTANY: Sounds good, my limo just pulled up, talk to you later hopefully.
TO BRITTANY: Bye baby *kissy face emoji*
FROM BRITTANY: *red heart emoji*
Santana set her phone down and wrapped her around Taylor, who was laying on her chest. "Okay, so what are we watching?" When she didn't get a reply, she shook her daughter slightly and laughed when she realized she was asleep. "Good night, Tay." She ran her fingers through her hair and turned the TV off.
Noon
"You want a banana, Sky?" Santana asked her daughter, who was sitting on the floor watching a cartoon.
"Momma." Skylar shook her head and went back to staring at the car cartoon she watching.
Santana sat down on the floor and set the banana down next to her. She tapped the baby's pink and orange striped socked foot to get her attention and smiled when Skylar looked up at her. "Momma's at work."
Skylar shook her head. "No work."
Skylar knew Brittany was home usually around the same time everyday and since she hadn't seen her in almost a week, she was starting to get upset. She asked for Brittany everyday and didn't believe Santana when she told her that her momma was working every time she asked.
"Si, baby." Santana nodded. "You miss momma, right? I miss her, too, but we'll see momma in a few days when we get on the airplane and go see her on Tuesday." She smiled while reaching in Skylar's toy box and picking up an airplane. "See, we are going to get in the airplane and fly through the sky..."
"I Sky." Skylar quickly shook her head and pointed to herself with a frown.
Santana laughed. "Si, you're my Sky Sky. We are going to fly through the clouds and way up high until we get to momma." She explained floating the toy through the air. Skylar watches her carefully.
"Momma."
"Si, when the plane lands, then we'll see momma." Santana nodded.
Skylar reached for her plane and held it tightly, staring at the Latina. "Nana."
"Okay, let's eat our bananas now." Santana opened it for her and handed it to her, keeping the peel herself. As she was checking Skylar to make sure her fever was still low the doorbell rang.
When Santana got to the door, Syklar watched closely to see who it was, she opened it and smiled at Quinn. "Thanks for coming over to watch the girls, I know it's Saturday and you catch up on work today." She told her as she steps to the side as Quinn walked in the house.
"It's okay, I can work here if I need to." Quinn replied with a shrug. "Hey Smiley."
"She has a little fever, not too bad, she's not coughing or sneezing or anything like that, so it should be okay. I gave her some medicine to contain it already and she has a banana to help push the medicine down too. I know you know what to do if she gets sick so I don't need to go through that. I should only be gone for a few hours, I need to do something at the hospital then run some errands, talk to the realtor and stop by the bank." She continued, putting her coat on. "Taylor is upstairs on the computer talking to Berkeley on FaceTime, she only gets 10 more minutes then she needs to get off the computer."
"Still only 30 minutes at a time?" Quinn asked.
"Yes, unless she's doing homework and she needs the Internet for that, she can play a game on her iPad, but can't browse the web, she knows the rules and is good about following them." Santana smiled.
"Bye, bye Sky." She waved at her daughter and left the house. "Thanks again, Q." She called over her shoulder as she jogged to her SUV.
Quinn closed the door and took her boots off, after she set her briefcase and laptop down on the couch she sat on the floor with Skylar, who was smiling at her and offered her some of her banana. "I think you need to eat that so you feel better." She laughed at Skylar, who shrugged and took another bite.
Saturday 3pm
Brittany yawned as she walked to the dryer and pulled out the towels she washed that morning and carried them to the couch to fold. She glanced at her phone to check the time, planning to call Santana in an hour when she knew Skylar was asleep so she could talk to her about some things with the move. She was stacking the towels on another to carry them to her linen closet when she heard a knock on her door and frowned slightly but set the towels down and went to the door.
"Oh my God, Rachel!" Brittany smiled happily, hugging her friend tightly. "What are you doing here?" She asked as the brunette walked in with flowers and a bright pink bag.
"Well, I knew you were down here alone, and I had a few days off so I got your address from Santana, and decided I would surprise you and hang out with you today and tomorrow." Rachel smiled. "Congrats on the new job and move." She handed her the flowers and the bag.
"Santana set this up?" Brittany blushed.
"Kind of." Rachel nodded.
"Thanks for the flowers and oohhhhh, champagne!" Brittany clapped happily.
"You're welcome." Rachel nodded. "Mind if I stay here?"
"Not at all, I have three bedrooms here anyways." Brittany shrugged. "Are you hungry, we can go to lunch, my treat?"
"Sure." Rachel smiled.
"Let me show you to a room." Brittany told her, walking through her condo to one of the extra bedrooms she had.
After Rachel got settled they headed to a nearby Italian restaurant that Brittany found the other day. "So, how much are you missing your three girls?" Rachel asked after they ordered drinks and appetizers.
Brittany sighed. "So much. I talk to Santana all the time, we FaceTime a lot so I can see the girls, but it's so much harder than I thought it would be. I've been away from them for work before, since I traveled a lot, but I could always count down to when I would be headed home, and this isn't the case this time. It's more of a mental fuck that anything."
Rachel nodded. "I can see that, especially since you and Santana are always holed up in that house together. I love you that you are married again, but you two don't do anything with anyone anymore."
"We're busy, Rach." Brittany shrugged.
"We work endlessly throughout the week, and the girls get our time at night, needing dinners and baths, Tay needing help with homework, and us just finishing up work throughout the day. We promised each other to both be home by 6pm nightly, so we tried to be, and sometimes we would end up working after the girls were asleep. On the weekends we are running around with Taylor to piano lessons, gymnastics, and play dates." Brittany rattled off. "When we finally have a quiet weekend, we would just sleep and relax." She shook her head. "It's nothing personal."
Rachel raised her hands in defense. "Oh I know it's not personal, and even though I don't have kids, I totally get it. I just want you two to branch out and meet new people down here and go out with them, have some joint date nights. I know Santana likes to keep your family in her little love cocoon, scared that you two will divorce again, but part of doing that, is having some alone time or some date nights with people your age to stimulate you mentally as well."
Brittany nodded as their drinks were set on the table. "I hear you and I agree. My new department has an office babysitting board, if your kids are a certain age you can have them apply to be a babysitter through the company. It's really cool, so you know exactly who is watching your kid and everything and you know the parents too. I'm going to talk to Santana about it and maybe we can find a great one that we really trust and we can start doing more things together."
"Sounds good." Rachel nodded. "That's an awesome service, so are the kids getting lightly taxed or how does that work?"
"The parents would still pay the kids like normal, but based on their rating they get paid by the company as well. So they get an incentive kind of. They are basically working on a commission with the company, the kids set up their own websites through the company and list details about themselves, it's so cute, and I think it's a really good idea. When Tay gets old enough I'm going to see if it's something she would be interested in doing."
"That's awesome." Rachel agreed. "So how is the sale of the house going?"
"Okay...Santana has been doing all of that, I know the realtor took pictures a few days ago and the house is on the market, we are hoping to get a good price on it."
"Do you two need to sell the house before you can buy one down here?" Rachel asked. "Wait...no. Don't answer it. That came out wrong, I don't mean to question your finances." She quickly covered her face in embarrassment.
Brittany laughed. "It's fine, no we don't need to wait. I got a nice bonus for moving, and they are giving us bonus down payment on a house as well. We just want to sell it fast so it's one less thing we have to worry about. We are keeping the condo uptown so when we go back to New York to visit or whatever we can just stay there instead of a hotel."
"Cool." Rachel smiled. "You look so happy down here, aside from the hint of sadness I can see from being away from your family, you look extremely happy."
"I am." Brittany nodded. "Ready to embark on this new journey with Santana and the girls."
"Aunt Quinn, can I ask you a question?" Taylor's asked, walking in the living room with Skylar, where Quinn was on her laptop doing some work.
Quinn took her glasses off and looked up, closing her laptop lid. "Sure, what's up?"
Skylar shook Taylor's hand to let it go and ran over to her puzzle, quickly picking up a piece, holding it tightly, while she looked for the spot to place it in, sitting down on the floor.
"Feeling okay, Sky?" Quinn asked, leaning forward and checking the baby's neck, Skylar looking up at her with a slight glare. "What's the question?"
"Does Santa ever forget things you ask for?" Taylor asked, sitting on the couch next to her.
"Well, he's been forgetting to bring me a good husband for years." Quinn laughed as Taylor stared at her, slightly confused. "What did Santa forget to bring you?"
"A puppy." Taylor replied quickly. "I put it twice on my list and three times on Sky's."
"Puppy!" Skylar smiled, turning to face them.
"Do you think my moms told Santa not to bring me a puppy?" Taylor asked her sternly.
Quinn cleared her throat. "I don't know Tay. I'm sure your moms wouldn't do that, sometimes Santa just doesn't bring us everything we want right away."
Taylor ran her fingers through her hair. "But I was good all last year, mostly."
"I'm sure you were." Quinn smiled. "You know, just because Santa doesn't bring you something doesn't mean he forgot or you were naughty, maybe he just think you need to wait a little while longer before you get it." Taylor frowned. "He gets to make that decision?"
"Sometimes." Quinn nodded.
"Oh...okay." Taylor frowned.
"Ready to come stay with me for a few days next week?" Quinn asked, wanting to change the subject since she wasn't sure what Santana and Brittany's reasoning was for not getting Tgaylor a dog, and she didn't want to say the wrong thing. "I got some cool things for your room."
Taylor smiled. "Really? Yeah, I'm excited, it'll be weird with my moms and Sky gone, but I'll be okay."
Quinn rubbed her back. "Well, you know I'll do whatever it takes to make you comfortable."
"I know, it'll be fun, mami said it'll build character." Taylor shrugged. "Whatever that means."
Quinn laughed slightly. "Yeah, I'm sure it will. Why don't you ou help out Sky with her puzzle."
Taylor nodded and sat on the floor with Skylar, who smiled at her and handed her the puzzle piece right away, wanting Taylor to find the correct spot for it. Skylar yawned and leaned into her big sister, sighing.
"Don't worry Sky, you'll see momma soon." She assured her, knowing how much Skylar had been asking for Brittany lately.
Tuesday 4pm
"You did so good on the plane ride." Santana told Skylar, kissing her on the cheek. Skylar stayed awake majority of the plane ride, holding a stuffed animal tightly. Santana read her a series of books, having her point out different shapes and colors, before the baby finally turned in her arms and fell asleep on her chest.
"Cookie." Skylar told her, her big brown eyes staring at her mother.
"Okay, since you were so good, you can have the cookie now." She pulled the complimentary cookie out of her pocket and handed it to Skylar, who smiled brightly and accepted the cookie right away.
"Cookie!" She screeched, holding it in the air as Santana made her way to baggage claim.
Santana maneuvered her way through the busy Phoenix airport and almost broke into a full sprint when she saw Brittany, bouncing on her heels, waiting at the closest possible spot for her. Picking up her speed Santana pointed down the hall to Brittany. "Look who that is." She told Skylar, whose eyes lit up.
"Momma!" Skylar screamed as Santana began to jog with her to Brittany, who opened her arms and hugged them right away.
"Hey baby." Brittany mumbled into Santana's hair, hugging her tightly. "God, I missed you so much." She sighed, inhaling her wife's scent. "And look at my Sky Sky!" She grabbed her daughter, hugging her tightly and kissing all over her face. Skylar smiling and laughing, holding Brittany tightly around the neck.
"All we need is Tay." Brittany sighed.
"I know, she has her midterms next week so you know we couldn't take her out of school, she has to keep her grades up so we can transfer her easily to a school down here." Santana replied, Brittany kissed her deeply and grabbed her hand.
"I know, but I still miss my baby girl." Brittany nodded. "Let's get your luggage so I can get you two back to the condo and we can catch up. I got gifts for both of you."
Santana looked around at the surroundings as Brittany drove them to the condo. "This is a nice area."
"Very nice." Brittany nodded, glancing in the rear view mirror at Skylar, who was looking out of the window as best as she could.
"There's a park nearby that we can take Sky to if you want, and some amazing restaurants." Brittany beamed. "You'll love the condo too, baby, it's so awesome, if we didn't have the girls, and it was just us, I would totally just suggest we stay there."
Santana smiled at Brittany. "You are so happy down here, aren't you."
"Yeah." Brittany nodded. "Very."
"Momma?"
"Yes, Sky." Brittany replied quickly, happy to hear one of her daughter's call her name again.
"Play wif Sky?"
"As much as you want, momma got you a ton of toys down here, and we can play with them all." Brittany told her, Skylar smiling in reply.
"Are we playing tonight?" Santana asked Brittany quietly.
"All damn night." Brittany nodded to her, winking at her while licking her lips.
They reached the condo 45 minutes later, Brittany carrying Skylar, not wanting to let go of the baby while Santana grabbed her purse and carried on with her laptop in it, leaving the luggage in the trunk for the time being. They called Taylor right away to let her know they landed safely and we're all together in the condo. Santana looked around, while Brittany talked to Taylor, hearing about her day at school, Skylar opting to stay in Brittany's lap and finish her cookie.
After getting settled and putting Skylar down for a short nap Brittany took them to a Mexican restaurant a few miles up the street, Santana raving over the margaritas and sending pictures of the huge one she ordered to Quinn, Mercedes, Rachel, and Nikki. Skylar once again fell asleep in Brittany's arms at the table so the two of them continued to talk and catch up, missing each other more than they realized. After realizing Santana had two margaritas they made their way back to the condo, Santana being slightly drunk laid down on the couch, while Brittany gave Skylar a quick bath and got her settled in the crib she bought for her, since they were donating the one in New York to a children's group home.
Brittany walked back to the living room with a bottle of water for Santana and sat on the couch. "Are you okay?" She laughed.
"I'm okay, not as drunk as I thought I was." Santana laughed. "We are going there all the time when I officially get down here."
"Sounds good." Brittany smiled, she leaned forward and kissed Santana softly on the lips. "I'm so happy to be able to kiss you again, and hug you, and touch you, and just see you."
"I feel the same way." Santana admitted. We all missed you so much."
"Can you stay until the weekend, I wanna fly back for the weekend and surprise Tay." Brittany asked.
Santana thought for a minute. "It'll be just an extra day since we were going to fly back on Thursday afternoon anyways, I'll talk to Quinn and make sure it's okay, Taylor would love that, especially since her recital this weekend, and I know she's upset thinking you wouldn't make it."
"I know she does, which is why I want to surprise her." Brittany nodded, rubbing Santana's arm. "Why don't we call her and say goodnight, and then we can start our night."
"Don't you work in the morning?" Santana laughed.
"Yes, but I start at 10am, I wanted to sleep in with you." Brittany nodded, standing up and pulling her wife with her. She grabbed her iPad and called Taylor, them telling her good night and letting her know that they missed her.
Brittany then ran a hot bath for the two of them and lit candles, she slowly undressed Santana, hugging her tightly when they were both naked before leading her to the tub. Santana leaning back on her chest, holding Brittany's arms tightly around her.
"I feel whole again." Santana stated, breaking the silence. "It's weird but I was feeling like I did when we were divorced, and I shouldn't have felt like that."
Brittany kissed her on the neck. "You are back in my arms right now, and will be for the next couple of days, so let's get through this and get everything straightened out and set up as fast as we can so you don't have to feel that way."
Santana turned and kissed her.
"I felt weird without you too." Brittany stated finally. "I didn't like it at all."
She leaned back and sighed as the two relaxed in the water, happy to be back together again.
Thoughts?
