Chapter 31

Brittany kissed Santana on the cheek and rolled out of bed, she glanced at the clock and saw it was just after midnight, so she kissed a trail down Santana's bare back and rubbed there for a few moments before pulling the cover higher over her wife. The two made love for over an hour, nice and slow, savoring the other and getting reacquainted, each taking their time pleasing the other, Santana fell asleep almost immediately after so Brittany held her tightly, not wanting to let her go for any reason. She hopped in the shower and rinsed off quickly before putting on a robe and walking to the room Skylar was sleeping in. She leaned over the edge of the crib, resting on the rail and stared at her daughter.
"I missed you, momma hates that she has to be away from you and Taylor, but this is for the best. This is going to create the best life for you two. I just hope you don't miss me too, too much and you know that what I'm doing is for your own good." She sighed as she carefully picked up her daughter and sat down in the recliner on the other side of the room. She kissed Skylar on her chubby cheeks and leaned back. The baby woke up slightly and groggily looked at Brittany, she wiggled in the blonde's arms and exhaled deeply, grabbing a fistful of her robe and falling back to sleep, cuddling closer to her mother.
"I love you, Sky Sky." Brittany whispered, kissing the top of her head.
Santana rubbed her eyes as she walked in the room, wearing a pair of Brittany's pajama pants and a t-shirt. "She loves you too." She whispered. "Do you want to let her sleep with us?"
"Would you mind?" Brittany asked.
"Of course not." Santana shook her head. "Let me rinse off in the shower and then I'll join you two in bed."
Brittany carried Skylar to the master bedroom and laid in bed with her, setting the baby on her chest. She listened as Santana sang softly in the shower, even though she wasn't loud, the acoustics of the bathroom and the door being cracked allowed her voice to drift through the room. She knew Santana was singing in the shower to help her stay awake, the Latina sang the same three songs when she was tired after working a long shift.
"Okay." Santana yawned as she walked back in the bedroom and slipped in bed right away. She kissed Skylar on the cheek before pressing her lips to Brittany's. "Good night, baby."
"Good night." Brittany replied, closing her eyes, happy to be lying next to her wife in bed again.
2am, New York
Taylor cleared her throat and sat up in bed, she hopped down and slowly opened the bedroom door, peeping down the hall. She walked quickly down to Quinn's room and knocked lightly where she began to wring her wrists when she didn't hear any sound and lifted her fist to knock again just as the door opened.
Quinn kneeled down quickly, running her fingers through her hair, attempting to tame it, blinking quickly to adjust to the brightness of the hallway, since she left the lights on for Taylor in case she needed to use the bathroom. "What's wrong?" She asked quickly.
"I can't sleep, Aunt Quinn." Taylor told her quietly. "Can I sleep with you?"
"Sure." Quinn nodded and grabbed her goddaughter's hand, closing the door behind her. She moved the stacks of books and notepads off of the other side of her bed and set them on the floor, before pulling back the comforter so Taylor could climb in.
"Are you working?" Taylor asked, climbing in bed.
"I was earlier." Quinn smiled, fixing the covers around her. "I fell asleep going over some briefs for a case I have, I have to go to court tomorrow so I wanted to be super prepared."
"You work a lot like my moms." Taylor noted, laying down.
Quinn smiled and walked back to the other side of the bed and climbed in too. "Are you feeling okay? You don't feel sick or anything, do you?"
"I feel okay, I just feel weird cuz my moms are so far away." Taylor shrugged. "I miss them and Sky."
Quinn pulled Taylor to the middle of the bed with a smile, letting her know it was okay if she cuddled with her. "Do you want to call them?"
Taylor shook her head. "No, I know my mom has to get up for work early in the morning, and I want to show them that I can be strong and brave."
Quinn stared at her. "It's okay if you want to call, that won't make you any less strong or brave."
Taylor nodded. "I'm sure." She wiggled closer to Quinn, who kissed the top of her head and wrapped her arm around her, staying awake until Taylor drifted to sleep.
10am, Phoenix
"Are you sure you can take off of work today?" Santana asked Brittany, setting down a plate of pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, hash browns, and grits.
"This is a lot of food." Brittany smiled as she picked up a sausage and handed it to Skylar, who was in her lap, having been attached to her mother since the afternoon before when they landed, and didn't want to leave Brittany's arms for any reason.
"Sausee." Skylar smiled, holding it in the air happily. Santana winked at the baby and set down a smaller plate for her next to Brittany's.
"Yeah, I didn't have any meetings today, and they know we need to get things together for the house and the move, getting you three down here is my main focus right now. I may have to log into my email later and do a few things, if that's okay." Brittany told her, handing Skylar a fork, positioning it in her hand for her.
"More than okay, I was planning on taking Sky to the park while you worked, and just exploring anyways." She shrugged. "I missed cooking for you," Santana said shyly. "Okay, we are such huge saps." She then laughed. "It's only been a week, and you would think we've been apart for years."
Brittany patted Skylar on the back when she coughed and handed her the sippy cup with water in it. "Drink, Sky Sky." She looked up at Santana and locked eyes with her. "A day away from you feels like a year."
Santana blushed, glancing at Skylar, who was happily eating, one of her little hands, playing with Brittany's fingers. "Awwww, B. Baby, I know it's hard for you to be away from us."
"So much harder than I thought it would be." Brittany admitted. "I was at the mall the other day, buying Sky some toys and just some things for the condo and I saw a little girl and her mother, and I felt my heart break as soon as the little girl said mommy." She kissed the top of Skylar's head. "I miss just sitting in the living room watching TV, or being in the kitchen and one of them running in and calling my name."
Santana nodded. "I get it, well hopefully these next couple weeks fly by and we are all back under one roof for good."
"Momma, sausee." Skylar held up the sausage to Brittany's mouth, the blonde taking a bite, which made the baby smile and laugh loudly.
"She would ask about you every day." Santana laughed. "I told her you were at work, but she didn't believe me."
Brittany smiled. "She knows I come home around the same time every day. The girls are on such a routine."
Santana took a bite of her pancake and nodded. "How did Taylor sound on the phone to you this morning before school?" She held up a forkful of eggs to Skylar, smiling when the baby opened her mouth wide and accepted it.
After taking a sip of her coffee, Brittany cleared her throat. "She sounded really tired to be honest. I don't think she slept well, even though she said she was okay."
Santana nodded in agreement, taking Skylar's cup out of her hand and tapping her hand so she would eat and stop playing with her cup. Skylar stared at her before leaning back into Brittany and accepting the pancake that Brittany gave to her. "I told Quinn to call me when she had lunch, because I wanted to talk to her. Taylor is a lot like me where she tries to be prideful and prove she's brave so she's not going to be honest about how she slept."
"Well, we've never really been away from her like this." Brittany reminded her wife. "When we take little trips it's just to a hotel and we are home the next morning, we are still extremely close, both of us haven't gone across the country."
"Well you surprising her should be the best gift ever." Santana smiled. "That'll really brighten her mood."
Brittany nodded. "So first up today is checking out a few houses?"
"First up is getting you a car." Santana told her wife. "So are you thinking of a car or SUV, I'm going to sell my Audi, and just keep my G Wagon, we don't need three cars down here."
"Are you sure? I know you love your car."
"Yeah, I love my G Wagon more." Santana shrugged. "We are going to be more than fine with money, but with me not working for a while we just don't need three cars, just an extra unnecessary bill with the payment and then the insurance.."
Brittany stared at her wife, gauging her facial expression to make sure she was being completely honest. "Okay, so car shopping today, then houses."
"Cookie." Skylar looked up at Brittany.
"You can have a cookie later today after your nap." Brittany told her.
Skylar frowned but shrugged and picked up another sausage, Santana smiling at her. "What kind of car do you want?"
Brittany thought for a minute. "I guess I don't know." She laughed softly.
Santana laughed, standing up to glance out the window and nodded when she saw a tow truck. "I remember back in college you always said how you would love to have an electric car, you know, to help save the environment and stuff."
"Oh yeah, a silver one." Brittany laughed. "I said I would name it the bullet."
Santana nodded. "Let's go for a walk."
"We're still eating, you've actually barely touched your food." Brittany pointed out.
"I just want to go outside for a minute." Santana jumped to her feet and reached for Skylar, who glanced back at Brittany, but held on to Santana. "It's like 75 degrees already and it's January."
Brittany stood up and laughed as Santana ran out of the condo. "Dork." She slipped on a pair of sneakers that were by the door and walked outside. Her jaw dropped as she covered her mouth, tears springing to her eyes as she looked at Santana standing next to a silver Tesla, a bright blue bow on the top.
"Congratulations on your new job, I'm so proud of you." Santana told her as Brittany walked over to her wife and kissed her deeply. Skylar, who was holding on to Santana's leg tightly, looked up at Brittany and reached for her leg instead. The blonde breaks the kiss and bends down to pick up her daughter.
"Santanita, this is amazing." Brittany told her, tears still streaming down her eyes.
"Okay, I know for sure you love it, because you never call me Santanita."
Santana blushed. "Well only on super rare occasions, both weddings, and the birth of both girls." She recalled.
"Yes I love it." Brittany nodded as Santana handed her the key.
"I know your job has electric charging stations, and when we get our house, we can get one set up right away too, so you don't have to only charge at work." Santana smiled.
"I don't even know what to say." Brittany shook her head as she opened the door and looked through the car, which had her initials embroidered in the head rests; silver stitching on black leather.
Santana smiled. "Say you will take Skylar and me on a ride."
"You don't even need to ask me to do that." Brittany laughed.
1pm, Phoenix
"Finally we have the outdoor patio and pool." The realtor stated leading the pair outside to the backyard. "There is a stone grill inside the outdoor dining area, perfect for entertaining since there are seats built into the stone, and patio furniture would fit perfectly. You have the hot tub over here, it seats up to 10 people, then there is the pool, which is heated."
"Skylar, grab momma's hand." Brittany told her daughter quickly as they walked closer to the pool. Skylar, who was picking up blades of grass, looked up and ran over to Brittany as Santana glanced back at the pair to make sure Skylar listened.
"How deep is the pool?" Santana asked, looking over the huge mass of water.
"13 feet at the deepest end." The realtor pointed. "The previous owners had kids as well, small ones, so they had the pool renovated where a clear piece of plastic can be slid down to separate the pool and make it a kiddy pool right at the 3 foot maker here." She walked over and reached in the pool to knock on the plastic. "If your littles ones are in the pool, you mentioned you have a nine years old, you can slide this in and they won't be able to get in the other part, you can put a tarp on the rest of the pool as well, which is included."
"That's great." Brittany nodded. "The girls wouldn't be allowed out here alone anyways, but that's still a great item."
Santana nodded. "Yes that is." She walked over closer to Brittany, running her fingers through Skylar's ponytail and whispering something in her wife's ear, Brittany nodding quickly to her.
"Ooooohhhhh." Skylar pointed to the swing set and slid over to the side. "Sky play."
"Go play, baby." Brittany nodded to her and laughed as her little legs ran over the slide.
"Oh and over here is the play area, the previous owners are including this as well." The realtor nodded towards the elaborate slide and jungle gym. "Which your little one seems to love already." She smiled. "Over to the left is the pool house, there is a bedroom, small sitting room, and full sized kitchen in there, oh and a full sized bathroom as well. I've shown you the entire house, and given you information about the area, so I'll leave you two a little time to decide, I'll be in the living room."
"Thank you." Santana smiled before walking over to Skylar and lifting her into the swing, strapping her in and beginning to push her.
Brittany took a picture with her phone and walked over. "What do you think about the house?"
"I love it, I love everything about it, the kitchen is amazing, the bedrooms are all big, the basement is finished and decked out." Santana listed off. "It's pretty much perfect."
Brittany walked closer and kissed Skylar on the forehead, lifting her out and walking to the slide with her. Climbing the steps she waited for Santana's signal so she could record them, and sat down to slide down the slide with Skylar, who laughed loudly the entire time. "I really like, the area seems nice, it has a three car garage, which is a huge step up from our one car garage at home."
"The master bedroom is amazing, and I love the office too, way bigger than mine at home now." Santana smiled, laughing at Skylar who was trying to climb up the slide.
"So are we putting in an offer?" Brittany asked.
"Yes."
"Yes."
"We're moving to Phoenix!" Santana yelled happily, running towards Skylar and picking her, spinning around with her, the baby squealing happily, holding on tightly to her mother.
Brittany laughed. "Let's go make our offer."
4pm
"How was school?" Quinn asked Taylor as she got in the car.
"Good." Taylor smiled."We got to go outside for recess today and we had this huge snowball fight."
"Sounds fun." Quinn smiled. "Okay, so you're in charge of dinner tonight, what are we making?"
"Pizza!"
Quinn laughed. "Okay, but you have to have salad with it, and we have to get veggies on the pizza."
"Deal." Taylor agreed, shuffling through her backpack and finally setting it down. "Can we call my moms on the computer?"
"Sure." Quinn nodded, pulling off from the parking lot. "You didn't sleep too good alone last night, I don't mind you sleeping with me at all, so don't freak out about that, I just want to make sure you're okay."
Taylor stared at the back of Quinn's head and shrugged. "Well, my moms took me to talk to a lady after the break in."
Quinn hummed and pulled into a Starbucks just off the road. "Let's get a hot chocolate and talk."
Once they were seated, Quinn ordered hot chocolate and a piece of cake for Taylor, they sat off to the side so they could talk.
"So, I know you were having some nightmares after the break in, does being in my house maybe bring those scary feelings up again? You all came right over that night after it happened, so it would be understandable if it does." She asked carefully.
Taylor broke eye contact and looked back down at her hot chocolate. "When I closed my eyes at first I was okay, but then I kind of remembered the night we had to rush over here and how scared mami was." She shrugged and looked up at Quinn shyly. "The bad guys won't find me at your house will they?"
Quinn moved to sit next to her goddaughter and shook her head as she wrapped her arm around her. "You're safe at my house, those guys are in jail where they will be for a very long time, since that's not the first time they stole people's things. Do you want to sleep in a different guest room, or just with me again tonight. Or we can go back to your house, and I can stay in the guest room there while you stay in your bedroom."
Taylor shook her head. "Mami will be back in a few days then it'll be okay."
"Well, you know where to find me if you can't sleep, honey." Quinn reminded her.
"Thanks, Aunt Quinn." Taylor replied quietly.
Quinn decided to change the subject not wanting Taylor to get too upset. "So, how about if you finish your homework and then after I check it, I order our pizza and we can play some MarioKart on the Wii, and I can kick your butt on Rainbow Road?"
Taylor looked up with a smile. "You are so bad at the board." She laughed. "But deal."
"Do you have a lot of homework?"
"No, just some worksheets for math, mami usually helps me with math, but I'm going to try to do it alone. Are you good at math?" Taylor asked.
"I actually am, but if you want to FaceTime with your mom and do it, I won't be hurt." Quinn smiled.
"Cool."
"Cool, let's take our stuff to go, so the faster we finish homework, the faster we get to hang out." Quinn told her, standing up.
9pm, Phoenix
"All done helping Taylor with homework?" Brittany asked, sitting on the couch next to her wife, two glasses of wine in her hands.
"Yeah." Santana nodded as she yawned. "Quinn sucks at math."
Brittany frowned as Santana grabbed one of the glasses. "She was always good at math when we were in school."
Santana shrugged. "Well she lost it."
Brittany laughed and lifted her legs to place them on Santana's lap, the Latina running her hands up and down her legs slowly.
"It's good to see you and Quinn getting along more. When we were in highschool we were all so close, we always said that we would raise our kids together, and do all these joint family trips..."
Taking a sip of her wine, Santana pursed her lips before setting the glass down and using both hands to massage Brittany's leg. "I would be lying if I said I didn't miss Quinn as a friend, or that I don't think about those times in highschool where we made all those plans for the future, but life throws things at you and your life shifts and changes. You can't predict the future."
Brittany took a sip of her wine and nodded.
"I mean, it's not easy for me to just get past all the shit Quinn said to me. Just thinking of the stuff she said to my face or tweeted about me." Santana rolled her eyes. "I can only imagine the shit she said about me in private or even to you in your meetings."
"I never let her talk disrespectfully about you." Brittany told her immediately. "You know that."
Santana leaned over and kissed Brittany on the lips softly. "I know." She nodded. "So, let's talk about Phoenix." She smiled, ready to change the subject. "What did you think of the school we toured for Tay?"
"Which one?" Brittany asked, trying to think of the three schools they had short tours on.
"Morris Academy."
Brittany shrugged. "I don't know if I want to put Tay in private school. We didn't go to private school for elementary, and she's been in public this whole time."
"So you like Roosevelt Street School?" Santana asked, reaching for a handful of gummy bears off the table.
Brittany nodded and wiggled to get comfortable. "I really liked that one, the staff was so nice too."
Santana shuffled to move so she was lying next to Brittany, facing her. "Okay, the good thing about that is that they have a week off of school for that teacher convention before they're back for the second semester, so that would give us two weeks before Taylor would need to start.
"With her midterms next week, that works out, she would just be out of school for a week." Brittany thought out loud. "That'll be perfect for moving."
"So another week with us all over the place then we'll all be together." Santana nodded. "Hopefully we have a house by then."
"If not, there's plenty of room here." Brittany reminded her. "A house is preferable but we won't be all over each other here, the girls would each have a room."
"Tay wouldn't care if she had to share with Skylar." Santana laughed. "She would love it actually."
"Yeah she would." Brittany smiled as her cell phone rang. She glanced at the clock on the wall and looked at her wife. "Think it's Tay?"
Santana shrugged, sitting up to grab her glass of wine as Brittany answered.
Hello?
Yes, this is Brittany Pierceā¦
They accepted our offer?
Santana sat up quickly, her eyes widening in excitement.
Yes, yes, yes, we can definitely meet tomorrow with the down payment to sign the paperwork.
Santana jumped up as Brittany rose to her feet as well.
Yes, how does 9am sound, we can go to the bank in the morning and meet you there. Thank you, see you then.
Brittany hung up the phone and turned to hug Santana tightly. "We got the house!"
"We got the house!" Santana screamed happily. "Fuck yeah!" She clapped as she kissed Brittany deeply. "This shit is so real now." She said quietly.
"So real..." Brittany nodded. "I want to go home with you tomorrow to surprise Tay, and start doing some packing this weekend. I'll work from home and remote into the office on Friday morning for the meeting."
"I'm so excited, that house is perfect!" Santana screamed again. "I gotta call my dad and tell him."
Thursday, 3pm
"I'll ask my Aunt, my moms are still in Phoenix doing stuff so we can move, so I'll be at her house again tonight." Taylor told Berkeley as the two walked out of school together.
"I thought Doctor mom was coming back today?" Berkeley asked, opening a bag of Skittles and giving Taylor a handful before tossing a handful in her mouth.
"Something came up." Taylor shrugged. "It's okay, my Aunt's house is cool, it's super big like ours too, she has a lot of expensive stuff in it, like glass and crystal, so I have to be careful, but I don't think she would yell if I accidentally broke something."
"Oh the blonde lady with the cool green eyes?" Berkeley asked.
"Yeah." Taylor nodded. "She's a lawyer, my moms' friends all have super cool jobs." She looked around the parking lot and saw Quinn's car pull up so she put her gloves back on. "My Aunt is here, I'll see if she'll let me play Mario Kart online tonight, if not I'll see you tomorrow."
Taylor ran over to Quinn's car and froze when she opened the back door and saw Brittany. "Momma!" She screamed happily as Brittany jumped out and hugged her tightly. "I can't believe you're here." Taylor sniffled, a few tears spilling out of her eyes.
"I missed you so much." Brittany told her, picking her daughter up and holding her tightly. "I had to come home and see you and see you kick butt in your piano recital on Saturday."
"I missed you so much, momma." Taylor sighed, not wanting to let go of her mother.
"We'll all be together really, really soon." Brittany told her. "Let's go home, mami and I have some news for you."
Thoughts?
