6am
"You don't have to get up, baby." Brittany smiled when she got out of the shower and walked back in the bedroom. She saw Santana sitting on the side of the bed, rubbing her eyes while yawning. "You look exhausted." She added, leaning down and kissing her wife before sitting on the chaise at the end of the bed and lotioning up.
"Good morning, B." Santana yawned. "I need to get up, theer's a ton of things I need to do around here today, I want to make a grocery list, get some fruit and veggies in here, I want to get some charcoal so I can grill out tonight for dinner too. We have to do some shopping for Taylor's supplies after you get off, and pick out the furniture. We both know Sky is awake already and ready to play, not to mention the puppies need to be dropped off."
"The puppies are getting picked up." Brittany smiled. "The obedience school I found them picks them up, it's a little bus for puppies, so cute. Just have them in their carriers, I already wrote our name and address on there."
"Cool." Santana nodded, standing and stretching. "I'm going to shower quickly before I make you a little breakfast."
"You don't have to cook breakfast for me, Santana. I set the coffee pot last night, I can grab something quick." Brittany shook her head, walking to the closet.
"You don't want an omelette?" Santana asked, raising an eyebrow, knowing Brittany loved when she made them.
"Well yeah." She stuck her head out of the closet quickly and smiled. "I'll get Sky up for you and I'll let the puppies out to poop."
"Okay." Santana laughed, walking in the bathroom. "I love this shower." She beamed, stepping in right away, turning on the shower radio to Pandora.
Brittany put her robe on, deciding to get dressed after getting Skylar, knowing the baby would pull on her clothes anyways. She walked in her room, smiling when Skylar stood up right away and smiled at her. "Good morning, Sky Sky." She exclaimed, opening the blinds in her room and lifting her daughter, who was reaching for her. After giving her a hug and kissing all over her face, she turned on her radio for her, turning on the tape that sang the alphabet and counted before setting her back down. "Momma will be right back." Skylar stared at her and sat down, staring at the wall where her letters and numbers were flashing on it in bright colors, the projector being a Christmas gift from Quinn.
"B!" Skylar pointed happily at the letter before it changed to a different letter.
Brittany pulled out an outfit for Skylar to wear, a pair of blue jeans with a white tshirt, purple and pink glitter stars on it, she grabbed a white cardigan sweater out for her as well, and set her purple Nike sneakers out as well. Skylar staring at her before picking up Big Bird and babbling to him while pointing at the wall, no doubt yelling at him to pay attention.
"Bye momma." Skylar laughed.
Brittany smiled and waved as she left the room, she walked down the hall to Taylor's room, wanting to check on her daughter when she heard her coughing and opened the door to see her vomiting. "Tay!" She rushed in the room and rubbed her back, looking around and grabbing the pillow case off of a pillow quickly, holding it to her mouth as she began to cough again. "Calm down, sweetie, let it come." She whispered to her when Taylor began to struggle.
Once she was done, Brittnay lifted her in her lap and rubbed her back, rocking her side to side. "What happened?"
"I tried to make it to the bathroom." Taylor sniffled, Brittany noticing the small puddles of vomit leading to the bathroom.
"How many times did you vomit?" Brittany asked, standing up, holding her tightly, and carrying her to the bathroom. She quickly grabbed a towel and wet it, dabbing her chest and forehead. "Let's get you cleaned up." She carried her to the master bedroom and quickly helped her get undressed before knocking on the shower door and opening it slowly. "Santana."
Santana opened the shower door wider as Brittany helped Taylor step in. "Ummmm." Santana frowned. "I'm showering, B." She raised an eyebrow at her wife, not expecting her daughter to join her, but rubbing Taylor's back when the little Latina hugged her and rested her head on her mother's stomach. "What's going on?"
"I went to check on Tay and she'd vomited all over her room." Brittany sighed. "I'm going to put her sheets in the wash and clean up her room, luckily we have hard wood floors in there."
Santana nodded before sitting down on the shower seat. "What's wrong honey?" She asked Taylor, turning down the water so it wasn't as hot. "I got her baby." She told Brittany, as she started to examine Taylor's rash, which seemed to spread over night.
"I don't feel good." Taylor whined. "My stomach hurts."
"Stress rash." Santana mouthed to Brittany, who nodded and left the bathroom, wanting to clean up Taylor's room before the smell set in. "Let's get you all cleaned up, Tay Tay." Santana reached for a loofah and ran it gentlly over Taylor's chest, noticing the rash there as well. "Do you feel dizzy?" She asked her, watching Taylor shake her head no. "Okay, hold on to the rail anyways." Santana hummed softly cleaning her daughter up before turning off the water, grabbing a towel and wrapping it around Taylor. "Go wait for me in our room, Tay. I'll be right there."
Taylor nodded and walked slowly out out of the bathroom and laid down in the middle of her mother's bed. Santana rubbed her face harshly and sighed. "Welcome to Phoenix." She laughed to herself before grabbing a towel and quickly drying off, she then grabbed her robe and walked in the bedroom to check on her daughter.
8am
"Sure you don't want me to drive you to work?" Santana asked, pouring coffee into Brittany's travel mug for her.
"Positive, Taylor is back asleep, and Sky is busy chasing the puppies." Brittany laughed, glancing into the enclosed patio that was just off the kitchen and watching her daughter chase the puppies while squeaking their toys, laughing loudly. "Your truck should be here today, this afternoon actually according to the email. I don't mind taking an Uber so you can use my car to run some errands today."
"Okay." Santana replied. "Come here, Sky."
"No." Skylar shook her head quickly, sitting on the floor and letting the puppies crawl on her. "Big Bird."
"Why does she keep calling them Big Bird?" Brittany laughed as her wife rolled her eyes.
"Everything is Big Bird to her, please don't buy her anymore for the time being." Santana told her, packing celery sticks and grapes for Brittany. "I think Big Bird is just a phase and she'll be back to Elmo in a few days."
"Maybe." Brittany smiled as Skylar came running in the kitchen, Santana lifting one of the puppies and setting her back over the gate and into the patio. She set down bowls of water and food for them, laughing as they crashed into each other to eat their breakfast. Brittany set the bowl of oatmeal in front of Skylar on her high chair table, laughing when she frowned at it.
"No momma."
"You better get going, B." Santanita smiled, handing Brittany her briefcase and kissing her on the cheek. "Do not throw that oatmeal." She turned and told Skylar quickly, watching the baby grab a handful.
Skylar scrunched up her face at her mother and stuffed the oatmeal in her mouth, chewing slowly while staring at Santana.
"Bye Sky Sky." Brittany smiled, blowing her daughter a kiss, the baby smiling happily at her.
Once Brittany left the house, her Uber waiting outside for her, Santana checked on the puppies and saw them laying in the sunlight, each playing with toys quietly, she then pulled a chair up to Skylar and wiped her hands off slowly. "Let Mami help you." She smiled at her daughter, lifting a spoonful of oatmeal to her mouth, Skylar happily eating it. Once she finished her oatmeal, she grabbed a small container of peaches and positioned Skylar's fork in her hand so she could eat them herself. "Mami
will be right back." She told the baby.
Santana grabbed the toast and eggs she made for Taylor with a small can of ginger ale and headed upstairs, she went to their bedroom, where Taylor was laying in the middle of their bed, and sat on the side, rubbing her back. "Tay, wake up honey." She checked her for a fever as she started to wake up, her blue eyes popping open.
"Hi Mami." Taylor mumbled as Santana stroked her hair.
"Feeling a little better?" Santana asked her.
Taylor nodded slowly and sat up. "I feel a lot better."
"Okay, why don't you eat this breakfast and come on downstairs after you get dressed." Santana smiled, kissing her on the forehead.
30 minutes later Taylor walked in the living room where Skylar was working on a puzzle, her Big Bird stuffed animals lined up against the wall in front of her. Santana was sitting on the floor, busily typing on her laptop.
"Tay!" Skylar jumped up and ran over to her sister, handing her a puzzle piece.
"Hey Sky." Taylor smiled, bending down and hugging her sister, kissing her on the cheek. "I'll help you." She smiled kneeling down and placing the puzzle piece in the correct spot for her.
"How's your rash, any itching or burning?" Santana asked.
"No, it's okay." Taylor replied.
Santana glanced at her and nodded, knowing Taylor was always honest about her rash. "Well, we need to do some grocery shopping, can you go put some sneakers on."
"Okay." Taylor smiled and ran back upstairs quickly.
"How do those feel, Tay?" Santana asked as Taylor stood up in her new pair of sneakers.
"Good."
"Comfy, not too tight anywhere?" Santana asked, kneeling down and pressing the shoe, looking for Taylor's toe, Skylar smiling and copying her mother.
"No, they fit good." Taylor nodded.
"Okay, so we are getting this." Santana cleared her throat and waved over the sales rep. "Can we get the red Huraches, the black Jordans, and the pink converse, all in a size 3 for my daughter." She told them.
"Is Sky getting new shoes too?" Taylor asked.
"Not today." Santana smiled as Skylar reached for a shoe on the wall. "No."
"Sky's."
"That's not yours, put it down please." Santana told her, Skylar stared at her and put the shoe down. "Thank you, come hold mami's hand or you have to get in the stroller again, it's really busy in the mall."
Skylar, who still hated her stroller, ran over to Santana's and reached up, the Latina obliged and picked her daughter up, kissed her on the forehead as she walked to the register, and swiped her card to pay. "Okay, now let's get you some jeans and a few tops before we do some grocery shopping."
After spending over $300 on new shoes for Taylor, getting her a few more pair that she saw on sale made their way through the mall, looking for a store. Skylar looked around the mall smiling and waving at everyone that walked past. "You sure are friendly today." She laughed at her daughter, who kissed her on the cheek. "I get a kiss too? Thank you Sky Sky." She beamed, rubbing her daughter's back, the baby tightly holding to her shirt. "Still feeling okay, Tay?" She asked her daughter.
Taylor nodded, looking up from pushing the stroller that was full of stuff they'd already bought. "I feel a lot better.."
Santana stared at her, feeling her neck and forehead for a fever. "You feel a little warm, that could be from your rash. Drink some more Gatorade, we'll stop and get lunch before we go grocery shopping, we have to be home by 2pm when the puppies get home from school." She watched as Taylor grabbed her Gatorade from the cupholder and took a few sips, Skylar watching her with a smile.
"Puppy!" Skylar nodded.
"Si, your puppy." Santana winked at her, Skylar waving at an elderly couple that was walking through the mall. "Okay, let's go to the Gap."
After spending over $500 in the Gap, buying clothes for the whole family, a few blazers and collared shirts for Brittany to wear to work, jeans for herself, and clothes for the girls. Skylar picked out everything that's yellow that she wanted. After a trip to Hollister and to Children's Place, they headed home so Santana could drop off the stuff they bought quickly, she then went to a hardware store wanting to get paint so she could work the girls' play room in the basement over the next week.
Finally after putting Skylar down for a nap, and Taylor laying down and watching tv while Santana took a few phone calls, she finished up her grocery list and made her way to the grocery store, wanting to quickly get done. Skylar was wide awake and in a good mood once again, holding her Big Bird tightly as she sat in the stroller babbling to herself while Santana worked through the list quickly, checking the time every so often.
"Mami!" Skylar patted Santana's hand to get her attention urgently.
"Yes, baby?" Santana replied softly, watching Taylor pick out three boxes of cereal. Skylar pointed to a box of Cheerios on the shelf, knowing they were the kind she ate. "I almost forgot, Lo siento." She smiled, quickly grabbing the box and giving it to the baby to hold, Skylar smiling happily in reply as she held the box tightly.
"Can I get the little boxes, it has all flavors in it?" Taylor asked.
"Good thinking." Santana nodded. "Grab two of those, you can eat one before school every day, and I know you like dry cereal as a snack sometimes too. We need to get some fruit cups for your lunch and some chips, and granola bars. Chips only every other day."
"Okay." Taylor shrugged.
"Dr. Lopez?"
Santana turned around quickly, not expecting anyone in the Phoenix to know her and smiled when she saw a former medical school student. "Felicia, how are you?" She asked, quickly hugging the woman.
"Great, don't tell me this is Taylor." She smiled brightly.
"Hi." Taylor smiled and waved politely, Skylar staring at the woman.
"Yes, she's almost 10 years old now, you haven't seen her since right after I had her." Santana stated proudly. "Brit and I had another baby girl, this is Skylar."
"Hello cutie." Felicia smiled, waving at Skylar, who waved back, lifting her Big Bird proudly.
"Big Bird!"
"Whoa, he's cool, he was my favorite growing up too." She replied.
"My friend." Skylar snapped at her, pulling back her toy quickly.
Santana smiling. "Sorry she's in that phase right now."
"She won't take it, Sky." Taylor assured her, Skylar handing her sister the toy to guard for her. "I'll hang on to it for you." She nodded and hugged the Big Bird for Skylar, the baby nodding when Taylor did.
"Tay, get some pop tarts honey." Santana told her daughter.
"Can I push Sky?" Taylor asked.
"Yes, but do not leave this aisle, I want to be able to see you at all times." Santana told her in Spanish, Taylor nodded and pushed the baby a few feet down the aisle to grab the poptarts, explaining every flavor to Skylar, who paid close attention.
"So what are you doing in Phoenix?" Felicia asked. "Are you working down here?"
"No, I'm not, Brittany got a promotion and we had to relocate to Phoenix, so I quit my job." Santana smiled. "I'm going to take care of the girls for the time being."
"You're one of the top cardiac surgeons in New York, and now you're just a housewife?" Felicia laughed. "What the hell? You just followed your wife?"
Santana clenched her jaw. "I'm still a surgeon, but I'm a wife and mother also. Brittany and the girls come first for me, so yes, I followed my wife because she got the opportunity of her career, she's worked hard and earned it. I know she would do the same for me."
Felicia raised an eyebrow at her as Skylar and Taylor started laughing.
Santana glanced at her daughters. "Those two are worth me dropping everything and following their mom across the country." She added. "Nice to see you again." She stated curtly before turning and walking towards her daughters. "What kind are we getting?" She asked, glancing at Felicia and rolling her eyes slightly.
7pm
"Dinner was good." Brittany smiled, setting the dishes in the sink as Taylor carried her dishes over. "Thanks, honey. Why don't you let your puppies out, they just had dinner too, and will need to use the bathroom."
"Okay" Taylor smiled happily, running to the indoor patio, the puppies chasing after her as she ran out in the yard.
Santana wiped Skylar's mouth and hands, before lifting her out of her high chair and carrying her to the couch, the new furniture having been delivered a few hours prior, turning on the TV for her. "Stay here and watch the baby dinosaurs."
"Dinosaur."
"Si, watch the dinosaur." Santana repeated as she headed back to the kitchen. "Glad you enjoyed it."
"You've been quiet all afternoon, something wrong?" Brittany asked as Santana continued to clear the table.
"Did you talk about me today at work?" Santana asked, loading the dishwasher.
Brittany raised an eyebrow and shrugged.
"Not especially, I mean, a few coworkers asked if you and Taylor landed safely and if we are settled in the house.
Santana nodded. "Okay, but how do you refer to me?"
"As my wife." Brittany winked, leaning down to kiss the Latina on the lips. "My amazing wife."
Santana blushed and nodded. "Do you say Santana, or..."
Brittany leaned against the counter and dried her hands on the towel. "What's going on?"
"Mami!" Skylar screamed, causing both of her mother's to look up quickly to check on her.
"What's wrong with Sky Sky?" Santana asked, staring at her daughter, happy they have an open concept living room and kitchen so she could see her from the kitchen easily.
"Sky's!" She stood up on the couch quickly and pointed to the TV.
Brittany smiled. "That's Snoopy!"
"Sky Snoopy." Skylar told her quickly.
"Momma will get you a Snoopy tomorrow." Brittany told her.
"No momma won't." Santana laughed softly. "You just bought her a ton of Big Bird stuff."
"Just one won't hurt, San." Brittany shrugged. "Sit down, baby."
"Snoopy." Skylar repeated.
"Tomorrow." Brittany smiled.
"Morrow." Skylar nodded, sitting down with her sippy cup and holding it tightly as she continued to watch the cartoon.
Brittany glanced in the yard to check on Taylor, smiling as she tried to teach the puppies fetch. "So what is this about again?'
Santana cleared her throat. "When you talk about me do you say I'm a doctor or just your wife?" She whispered.
"Momma!" Skylar yelled.
"Sit down Sky." Brittany shook her head when she saw the baby standing on the couch again. "Sit down with Big Bird."
"Snoopy!"
"Snoopy tomorrow." Brittany repeated.
Skylar nodded, still pointing at the screen with a smile before sitting down. "Morrow."
Santana smiled at how happy Skylar was watching the cartoon as Brittany gently turned her to face her.
"You know I always introduce you as Doctor Santana Lopez-Pierce." Brittany frowned. "What's going on?"
Closing the dishwasher Santana leaned against the island in the kitchen and sighed. "Will you still even now that I'm not working in a hospital."
"Did you lose your license?" Brittany raised an eyebrow.
Santana laughed and shook her head. "No."
"So you're still a doctor, sweetheart." Brittany frowned. "Wait...why are enough asking me this?"
Santana sighed. "I ran into one of my medical students from way back and she called me a housewife and said I followed you down here, she made it seem like..."
Brittany shook her head. "Don't finish, how do you feel about quitting your job and moving here, honestly?"
"I honestly don't mind following you, did I hate quitting my job, yeah, I've been there for years, but our family comes first, you and the girls come first, I said I would never put my career before you again." Santana replied. "I know I can find a job easily, I have great credentials and references."
"Do you think I put my career first by accepting the position?" Brittany asked.
Santana thought for a minute before she shook her head. "No. I think you were thinking about the girls' future, and about our family."
"I was." Brittany replied. "Baby, who cares if people don't see what we are doing, we both know that we are thinking about our family, and you aren't any less of a doctor because you are choosing to take care of the girls for a few months. I always have and always will refer to you and introduce you as Dr. Lopez-Pierce."
Santana exhaled in relief. "Sorry I'm being crazy."
"You're not." Brittany replied, walking over and leaning on Santana, wrapping her arms around her. "You know that if you want to start looking for a job now and go back to work right away, I support you."
"I know." Santana nodded."Let's just see how the first month goes with the girls."
"Okay, love you." Brittany smiled, pecking her on the lips.
"Love you." Santana blushed, and deepened the kiss.
"Bath time for Sky?" Brittany pointed to the baby, who was now laying down, drifting to sleep. "I'll get started on bath time while you help Tay with Hansel and Grettell?"
"Sure." Santana replied, Brittany moved to walk to the living room but Santana grabbed her arm quickly. "Thank you, baby."
Brittany knowing exactly what Santana was thanking her for, simply nodded and winked at her. "Sky Sky bath time." She sang, dancing her way to the daughter, who was sleepily watching her with a smile.
"Tay!" Santana went outside. "How's fetch going?"
"Hansel brings it back but doesn't let it go." Taylor laughed. "Grettel doesn't get to the toy in time but she always runs back with Hansel."
"Okay, let's play with them for a few more minutes before bath time and some reading." Santana suggested she picked up two toys and threw them in opposite directions, each puppy chasing after them.
"Did you clean up the poop?"
"Yes, I put it in a bag and tied it tight before putting it in the metal garbage can by the garage." Taylor nodded.
"Good job." Santana smiled, giving her a high five. "I see you scratching baby, pat don't scratch. We'll do another oatmeal bath tonight."
Midnight
Santana rolled over in bed when she heard clicking on a laptop. "Come to bed, B." She mumbled tiredly, barely opening her eyes. "It's late."
Brittany glanced down at her wife. "Did I wake you?"
"Yes, but not because you're working, because you're not in my arms." Santana replied.
"I need to finish this report." Brittany leaned down and kissed her on the top of the head. "Five more minutes, baby."
"Okay." Santana nodded. "I'm going to go check on the girls." She sat up slowly and walked out of the room, Brittany smiling at how cute she looked when she was sleepy.
Ten minutes later Santana trotted back in the bedroom and crawled in bed, Brittany kept her word and closed her laptop, snuggling close to Santana, sweeping her hair to the side so she could kiss the back of her neck. "Are the girls okay?"
Santana wiggled back deeper into Brittany and wrapped the blonde's arms tighter around her. "Yeah, Sky is fast asleep and I just rubbed some ointment on Taylor's arms."
"Do you have plans tomorrow?"
Santana shook her head. "I want to grab a few things for the girls' play room and get started on it. I'm thinking of a chalkboard wall so Sky can work on writing and can color on it. I was on Pinterest this evening and saw some cute ideas, so I'll work on that this week."
"Sounds good." Brittany replied. "What about a reading corner for the girls?"
Santana turned over and faced her wife. "I really like that idea, they both have so many books, we can decorate the area with letters and numbers."
"We can get a big TV for them, put it on the wall, so Sky can watch cartoons and PBS." Brittany smiled. "We can do different station set ups for them..."
Santana nodded as her eyes closed. "We can get bean bag chairs..." "You're sleepy." Brittany laughed. "Good night, baby."
"Night." Santana snuggled as she fell back to sleep.
5pm
"Mami said you were so well behaved today." Brittany told Skylar, kissing her on the cheek as they walked in Target. "Since Mami is filling out some papers with Tay, we will pick up the diapers that Mami forgot at the store and the wipes."
"Diap."
"Yep, diapers." Brittany set her down once they were in the store and held her hand as they walked through the store, Brittany carrying a basket rather than getting a cart.
Skylar tried her best to walk as fast as Brittany, tripping over her feet in the process, Brittany always being patient and stopping when the baby tripped.
"Snoopy!" Skylar jumped up and down excitedly while pointing to the DVD with Snoopy on the cover.
"You remember him, huh?" Brittany smiled as she grabbed the disc. "We can watch it later with Taylor."
"My Tay." Skylar nodded quickly as Brittany handed it to her.
"Let's get your diapers and we can find some Snoopy toys." Brittany told her, picking her up and holding her so Skylar could still hold her new movie.
Once Brittany got to the aisle with diapers she grabbed three packages, Skylar reaching for one of the packages quickly. "Mine."
Brittany handed her the package to hold. "Can momma hold the DVD?" "No." Skylar shook her head. "Mine."
"Okay." Brittany kneeled down and positioned both items in her hands so she could carry them both. "Got it."
"Mine."
"Okay." Brittany grabbed a few other quick items before walking behind Skylar, as slow as she needed to go, to the toy section. "Let's see what toys we like."
45 minutes later
"San! Tay!" Brittany yelled as she walked in the house. "Ready to go to dinner?"
"Snoopy!" Skylar smiled happily as Taylor walked in the living room.
"Whoa, look at all the toys!" Taylor smiled.
Brittany handed her a bag. "A few new games for the Wii."
"Thanks momma!" Taylor smiled as Skylar began to pull all of her new toys out of the bag, showing them to her sister.
Santana walked in the living room, her purse on her arm. "I put the puppies up, so let's go.." Her voice trailed off when she saw all the bags. "Brit, we need to talk."
"Snoopy!" Skylar jumped up and ran over to Brittany with one of her new 5 Snoopy toys.
"So cool." Santana smiled at her daughter. "Did you tell momma gracias?"
Skylar stared at her and went back over to Taylor, Santana sighing at the baby. "How much did you just spend, I thought you were just going to get diapers?"
"I got diapers, three packs and some wipes." Brittany. Nodded towards the bag on the couch.
"Can I see you in the kitchen?" Santana asked, Taylor staring at her moms, a worried look on her face, knowing Santana was upset.
"Sure." Brittany nodded, following her wife.
"I'm tired of having this same argument." Santana sighed, running her hands through her hair. "Stop spoiling Sky, why did you just buy all those toys?"
"She likes Snoopy." Brittany replied.
"She's 20 months, she likes everything she sees, B." Santana replied. "You have to stop spoiling the kids, they act like a damn fool in the store with me because I don't buy them all the crap you do."
"Let's go to dinner." Brittany replied, walking past her wife and picking up Skylar. "Grab Snoopy." She smiled at her daughter. "Come on Taylor," She winked at her daughter as she led them out of the house.
Santana stared at her wife and groaned.
Thoughts?
