Chapter 39

"Is a housewife bad?" Taylor asked, lifting her hand off of her right ear.

"No." Brittany and Santana both responded quickly.

"What did I tell you about people's jobs?" Santana asked, moving Taylor's other hand from her ear, since it was apparent her daughter was listening anyway.

Taylor chewed on her bottom lip while she thought before smiling. "That everyone's job is equally important from the mailman to the doctor, the garageman to the lawyer, the teacher to the janitor, and the President to the line cook. Everyone serves a specific purpose and everyone's job helps keep the world running smoothly."

"Right." Brittany nodded, shifting Skylar, who wiggled and woke up, staying

at her sister and exhaling deeply before closing her eyes and grabbing Brittany's shirt tightly.

"Exactly." Santana told her. "There's nothing wrong with being a housewife, Tay, momma didn't mean it that way."

"Okay." Taylor smiled.

"Why don't you head up to bed, you can read one of your comic books since Sky is asleep already." Santana told her. "I'll come say good night in thirty minutes."

"Okay." Taylor smiled, jumping to her feet and kissing Skylar on the cheek.

"Good night Sky, I love you." She told her sister, who woke up from the kiss and sleepily smiled at her sister before falling back asleep.

Once Taylor ran upstairs Santana turned to Brittany and stared at her. "Brit..." She said softly, shaking her head as her parents walked in the living room.

"Santanita we are heading out." Mrs. Lopez smiled, "meeting friends for drinks."

"Okay, have a good night." Santana nodded to her parents, her dad winking at her in reply.

"Let me put Sky in her crib and we can sit outside and talk." Brittany suggested.

30 minutes later, the pair was sitting outside by the pool facing each other.

Santana was staring at the water in the pool, deep in thought when Brittany rubbed her leg. "Go back to work, the whole soccer mom, afternoon snack, midday jogs with the stroller thing isn't you. I can tell you're all the way happy right now, and I need you to be happy."

"I am happy." Santana replied defensively. "I love it down here."

"You're happy but you're not yourself, I know you want to work, you miss being in the OR, the ER, and whatever else Rs are at the hospital." She smiled while laughing, causing Santana to blush and laugh. "I don't mind if you go back to work, I know we agreed you would wait a while, but your personal mental health is important to me, and important to this family, and if you are doing kitchen table surgeries, probably late at night, then you're not okay, baby. I need you to be okay if this move is going to work for us."

Santana rubbed her face slowly. "I hear you baby, but really I'm okay right now, but the moment I start to get too antsy, the two of us will one back out here and sit down and talk about the next best move for our family. We have Tay in school so that's good, and I want to find a preschool for Sky to start this fall."

"We can find a daycare for her during the summer, at least for a few hours."

Brittany suggested, lifting Santana's hand and playing with her fingers.

"Oh, my parents are moving to Arizona to retire her, did my mom tell you?" Santana smiled.

"Whoa, no, that's awesome. When?" Brittany asked happily.

Santana smiled, "they'll be here by the summer. I never thought I would say this, but I'm happy they'll be closer to us, it'll be a big help with the girls."

"Yeah it will be." Brittany agreed. "I'm glad you two are getting along better too. It's so good to watch you two laugh and smile again, you were always so close to your mom in highschool, don't let another small argument tear you two apart again. Imagine if Taylor was upset with you and kind of kept the girls away from you, as much as my mom makes me upset sometimes I always think about that."

"I know." Santana nodded. "Feel like cuddling and watching some tv with me?"

"Sure." Brittany nodded.

Thursday 5pm

"Skylar Reese, I said don't touch that, please." Santana told her daughter, looking up from the medical journal she was reading. Taylor, who was laying on the floor doing her homework, looked up at her sister quickly, not wanting her to get in trouble.

Skylar, who was staring at the crystal vase on the side table, reached her hand back and stared at her mother. "Sky's."

"No, that's not yours, do not touch the vase." Santana repeated sternly.

"Come sit by me Sky." Taylor smiled, patting the pillow next to her.

Santana shook her head. "Finish your homework, Taylor."

Taylor nodded and picked up her pencil again, focusing on her math problems. "Okay."

Skylar rocked on her feet, having a stare off with her mother until the older Latina finally looked away and began to read her book again. The baby licked her lips before stuffing her hand in her mouth, she then reached in her pocket and pulled out the rest of her breadstick and began to stuck on it before reaching for the vase again.

"Skylar!" Santana snapped, startling the baby who jumped back and fell on her butt, her breadstick flying out of her hand.

Skylar quickly threw her hands up to her face as she began to cry loudly, Taylor jumped up and rushed to her sister, hugging her tightly. "It's okay."

She cooed softly to her, the baby turning in her arms and hiding her face in her big sister's chest. "I think she's okay, mami."

Santana nodded, knowing her daughter was putting on a show. "She's okay, come here Sky." She opened her arms to her daughter, setting her book down. "Come here, honey."

Skylar shook her head no, but Taylor picked her up and carried her over to Santana, who rubbed Skylar's back and lifted her in her lap, kissing her forehead and humming to calm her down. "You're okay, mami asked you to not to touch that." She told her, digging in her mouth and pulling out the breadstick she stuffed in her cheek and set it down on the table. She then turned Skylar so the baby was laying on her shoulder and began to softly back her when she began to hiccup. "Calm down." She whispered lowly patting her on the butt softly. "Mami is sorry for scaring you."

Brittany walked in the house, a frown on her face at Skylar screaming and kissed Taylor on the temple. "What's going on?" She asked, hugging her daughter.

Skylar looked up at Brittany before pointing to Santana and babbling something loudly, telling on her mother, before hiding her face in her hands again, starting to scream and put on a show for Brittany. Santana rolled her eyes at her daughter and rubbed her back soothingly.

"Sky kept touching the vase and mami told her to stop, so she tried again and when mami said her name she got scared and fell back on her butt, and she started to cry." Taylor rattled off quickly.

"Hey B." Santana smiled at her wife. "She's okay, just scared herself when she fell, that's all. Probably knocked the wind out of her." She explained as Brittany leaned down and kissed her.

"Sky Sky." Brittany sang softly, the baby turning her head when she heard Brittany's voice and lunging for her right away. "Calm down, sweetheart." She told her, sitting on the couch next to her wife, turning her head and kissing her again. "Ready to head to the mall?"

"We're going to the mall?" Taylor asked, happily. "Can I go too?"

Santana nodded. "Go get your shoes on and grab Skylar a pair of sneakers to put on as well, too please."

Skylar calmed down from crying as Santana picked up her breadstick off the floor and wiped the table off from the food she pulled out of her mouth. She stuck her little fist in her mouth as Brittany rocked her slowly, peppering kisses to her forehead.

"Do you need to change B?" Santana asked.

Brittany shook her head, glancing down at her skinny jeans, white camisole, and pink blazer she wore to work that day. "No, I'll just put on a pair of sneakers."

Taylor came running down the stairs and kissed Skylar on the cheek as she slipped her air max on her feet, tying them tightly for her. "Why are we going to the mall?" She asked, zipping up her hooded sweatshirt.

"We are going to get your key for the house made today, and let you pick out a few keychain trinkets."

"Cool!" Taylor beamed.

The family was walking through the mall, Skylar refusing to leave Brittany's arms and ride in her stroller, so to avoid an argument, and Santana calm, who Brittany could tell wasn't having the best day, she offered to just carry the baby, or walk slow enough so she could walk herself and just hold her hand.

"Momma!" Skylar smiled, holding Brittany's finger tightly, and pointing at the bright colors on the wall. "Butt fly."

"Good job, that is a butterfly on the wall." Brittany nodded with a big smile.

Santana glanced down at Skylar and smiled softly as Brittany rested her hand on her lower back and rubbed there slowly. "Feeling okay, today?" Brittany asked as Taylor began to point out stores to Skylar, holding her other hand.

"Don't let her hand go, Tay." Brittany told her, dropping her daughter's hand.

"Okay." Taylor nodded, before picking up her sister and holding her instead, Skylar leaning on her shoulder and sighing. "I think you need a nap." She laughed at her sister, who giggled back when Taylor began to tickle her.

"No, I have a bit of a headache." Santana shook her head. "I didn't sleep well last night and just had a rough day.."

"I felt you toss and turn, didn't you take a nap today?" Brittany asked, continuing to rub her back.

"No, my parents were gone all day actually, they were house hunting and sightseeing." Santana replied. "Sky has been more than a handful today, and the damn puppies pooped and peed in the house, even though I let them out, then Hansel started to splash her damn water out all over the fuckin floor."

Brittany glanced up at her and moved her hand up her back, rubbing circles there. "Well we are just grabbing a few things then we can head home, I'll cook dinner tonight."

"No, let's just take the girls out to dinner, when we get back home I just want to go to sleep." Santana told her.

"Okay, we can open a bottle of wine and cuddle first." Brittany told her. "It's a little cool out tonight, we can light the fireplace and relax, I can give you a rub down."

"Thanks baby." Santana blushed as they walked up to a key kiosk. "You can pick whatever colors you want Tay, you need three different keys."

Taylor nodded and set Skylar down, the baby looking around quickly before grabbing Santana's leg and leaning on it. Santana bent down and lifted her up, setting her on the counter, immediately starting to move around. "Sit still, please."

Skylar looked at Brittany and nodded when her mother did and stared at the different keys behind the counter, holding Santana's shirt.

After Taylor picked out her keys, one tye dye, one bright metallic pink one, and one black one, they stopped at another kiosk where they allowed her to pick out two trinkets to put on the keychain, in addition to the metal letter T with crystals that Santana picked out for her. Taylor was walking around the kiosk listing the pros and cons of each keychain she really liked when Santana spotted Skylar, pulling off the key chains on the bottom racks and throwing them on the floor.

"Hey, don't do that." Santana told her softly. "Pick those up please."

Skylar stared at her and picked one up and held it tightly before extending her hand to her mother. "Sky's."

"No." Santana shook her head. "You don't need a key chain, put it back."

Skylar stared at her and shook her head quickly. "Sky's."

Brittany looked up and watched Sky try to push out tears. "Skylar, put that back please." She told her daughter.

"Sky's!" Skylar yelled before kicking some of the key chains on the floor and throwing the two in her hand angrily.

"The hell." Santana snapped, grabbing her hand and popping it twice. "That's naughty, you know better than that. You don't throw things."

Skylar snatched her hand away and screamed loudly as Santana began to pick up the keychain trinkets, she moved just as Skylar lifted her foot to kick her, Taylor's jaw dropping as Brittany moved to grab her daughter but Santana popped her legs twice and popped her on the butt.

"You do not kick mami!" Santana yelled at her, Skylar running quickly to Brittany and hugging her leg.

"Skylar Reese." Brittany said sternly. "You don't kick anyone." She told her as Skylar screamed.

Taylor set her trinkets down and kneeled down to hug her little sister, who quickly hid her face in her big sister's chest. "Shhhhh, you can't scream in the mall." She told her quietly, Skylar shaking her head and beginning to jump up and down, a full blown tantrum in place.

Brittany bent down and picked her up quickly. "Okay, it's time to go home I think. Taylor, did you pick out the trinkets you wanted?"

"Yes momma." She nodded quietly. "We don't have to get them."

Santana frowned. "Don't let Skylar ruin this for you, if she wants to be naughty, then let her be naughty, get your trinkets. Let's pick out some cool ones together."

Taylor nodded and walked around the kiosk with her mother while Brittany continued to hold a screaming Skylar, smiling politely at the people walking by and staring at them.

"Stop crying." Brittany told her, wiping her tears away softly. "Calm yourself down."

"Mami!" Skylar pointed angrily at the Latina.

"Yes, mami spanked you, you're being really, really naughty today." Brittany told her daughter., holding Skylar's legs when she began to throw them wildly. "You need to calm down or we are going to get the stroller. Enough." She added sternly but gently.

"These are all awesome, Tay." Santana smiled as she handed the clerk her credit card and gave Taylor the bag.

"Thanks." Taylor nodded, staring in the bag at them.

"Okay, let's go look at cell phone cases." Brittany smiled.

"You want a new case?" Taylor asked her mother.

"Yep, I need you to pick it out for me." Brittany winked at Santana.

"Cool." Taylor smiled, rubbing Skylar's back, and locking eyes with Brittany, silently asking to hold her sister, Brittany nodding and handing the baby to her, who was down to a sniffle and clutched tightly to her big sister, peeping at Santana for a moment.

11pm

Santana laid back in the bathtub and exhaled as she lifted her glass of wine and took a long sip before she closed her eyes and exhaled again. Brittany, who was behind her, began to massage her shoulders. "I'm sorry you had a rough day."

"It's not your fault, baby." Santana replied, lifting her glass and taking another sip.

"So that was a Skylar Reese tantrum? Brittany groaned.

"The scary part is I think that's a light one." Santana chuckled to herself, holding the glass behind her for Brittany to take a sip, she relaxed further when she felt her wife's hands start to roam her body and rub her thighs soothingly. "Today was just a fucked up day, baby, I'm sorry. I just don't feel like talking."

Brittany kissed her on the neck. "It's okay, honey, do you want to relax in the tub alone?"

"No." Santana shook her head. "I just want to lay here with you for a while."

"Okay." Brittany replied, wrapping her arms around her and hugging her tightly, she rested her chin in the crook of Santana's neck and kissed her softly a few times, before reaching over and turning on the radio, smiling when Anita Baker began to sing.

Santana finished the glass of wine and turned on her side to lay on Brittany's chest, she softly blew some bubbles from around her mouth, before kissing Brittany on the collar bone and exhaling shakingly before starting to shake with tears. Brittany held her tightly, knowing Santana would cry when she was stressed and had a rough day.

"Cry it out, Santana." Brittany told her, rubbing her back. "This is why I want you to go back to work, baby, you're going to drive yourself crazy being home all day, every day like this."

Santana didn't reply and instead just silently cried to release all her stress and anger before healing deeply and closing her eyes, Brittany massaging her lower back under the water as she peppered kisses to her forehead.

Friday 7pm

"We're late, Brit." Santana groaned.

Brittany raised an eyebrow at her wife as she fixed her makeup in the mirror.

"We are just going across the street and we needed to take Taylor to get her gift for the birthday party tomorrow and Sky Sky wouldn't let go of your leg earlier for you to get dressed. Yesi and Daphne have kids don't they? They understand, baby."

Santana groaned. "I don't like being late anywhere."

"I know, Doctor Lopez, give me two minutes to put on lipstick, that you'll be able to kiss off later." She turned and winked at Santana, who blushed quickly. "Why are you in such a rush? Oh...ready to see your crush?" She teased.

"That's not funny, Brittany." Santana said quickly, shaking her head.

"I'm joking." Brittany told her with a big smile.

"You're supposed to be jealous and super protective and all she's my Santana so back the fuck off, and you're not doing that." Santana whined. "Why not, fight for me." She pouted.

Brittany laughed and pulled her wife closer to her. "I don't have to fight for what's mine." She shrugged. "I'm not jealous because I'm not worried, you're mine." She added, allowing her hands to roam Santana's tight green dress.

"This ass is mine" She smiled while smacking her butt. "These breasts are mine.." She winked, grabbing them and squeezing softly, not wanting to wrinkle her dress. "This pussy that I know is probably watering up right before my hand is so close is mine, I can feel the heat coming from it already.

Look at your chest, I can hear your heart beating, I know you can feel it.."

She whispered lowly, their lips inches apart. "I can touch you right now, and you would explode on my hand. no one else can make your body react like this." She winked. "I'm not worried." She smiled, kissing her wife deeply.

"And these are my lips...I know they would never touch another set of lips, aside from my other set."

Santana shuddered and kissed Brittany again. "Fuck, B."

"On top of all of that, I know you respect me completely and you would never do something to tear our family apart; that's the biggest reason I'm not worried." Brittany smiled, kissing her on the cheek as Skylar walked in the bedroom.

"Sky book." She said quickly, holding up a book to Santana.

"You want mami to read you a book?" Santana smiled, Skylar nodding quicky. Santana lifted her daughter, smiling at her footed pajamas since she was fresh out of her bath courtesy of her Buela. She opened the book and set it on Skylar's lap, and began to read her the animal book she brought to them.

"Butt fly." Skylar clapped happily, pointing to the page.

"You really like butterflies." Santana laughed.

"Yes she does." Brittany nodded. "We should go back to the butterfly wonderland, and get her more books on them."

"That's a good idea." Santana nodded. She began to read the rest of the book while Brittany touched up her makeup as Taylor ran in the room.

"Momma I forgot to give you your case." She smiled. "You left it in my bag."

"That's your case." Santana replied casually.

"I don't have a cell phone." Taylor shook her head, laughing.

"What's that on the desk?" Santana told her, pointing to different animals on the page so Skylar could say their names.

Taylor's eyes widened when she saw the brand new iPhone 6S sitting on the desk in the box. "This is mine?"

Brittany nodded. "Yes, you need a phone for emergencies down here, and with us giving you a key to the house, and you maybe staying home for an hour or so by yourself, we want to be able to reach you before you get home.

Having a phone allows mami to text you to let you know she's isn't home so you don't worry or panic if you get here and she's not home."

Santana nodded. "That's right, it's also so I can text you a few chores to complete when you get home if I'm not home."

"Cool!" Taylor sniffled, overly grateful as always. "Thank you."

"I downloaded a few apps for you, some games, and some educational apps as well. Just like on your iPad." Brittany told her.

"Leave it in here for tonight, then tomorrow morning we can go over some rules with the phone." Santana smiled.

"Thank you!" Taylor nodded quickly, running to hugging both of them. "I'll follow all the rules, promise."

"Pwomise." Skylar mimicked while laughing.

After Santana finished the book the two headed downstairs where Mrs. Lopez was opening a new puzzle for Skylar. "Taylor, ready for some movies and popcorn?" She asked her granddaughter.

"Si." Taylor nodded happily.

"Okay, Papi is getting some firewood from outside then we are going to do a puzzle with Sky before she falls asleep. Then we'll start our movie."

"Brittany, I'll grab the wine." Santana told her.

Mrs. Lopez quickly followed her daughter to the kitchen. "Santanita, I don't trust her." Santana turned around quickly. "Brittany?" She frowned.

"No, the trouble maker from across the street." Mrs. Lopez replied. "She came over her dressed inappropriately with baked goods for you, she's a home wrecker."

Santana smiled. "Mami, she's not a threat, just a neighbor being nice, that's it."

"Don't be naive, and don't yearn so much for adult interaction that you ignore what's happening." Mrs. Lopez told her in Spanish. " i know trouble when I see it, she wants more than for you two to come over for dinner. Just watch her."

"I will mami." Santana nodded.

"Have fun." Mrs. Lopez winked.

Santana and Brittany walked up to Yesi and Daphne's door and rang the bell, Santana holding the two bottles of wine, while Brittany stood behind her, holding a cheese tray they picked up, wanting to bring more than just alcohol.

Yesi opened the door in a few low cut and skin tight black dress, leaving nothing to the imagination and scanned Santana's body quickly. "Nice to see you both, glad you could make it. We were getting a little worried."

"Sorry, our youngest wanted a lot of attention tonight." Santana smiled warmly.

Brittany raised an eyebrow when Yesi licked her lips and stared at Santana, so she wrapped her arm around her wife, holding her protectively around the stomach and kissed her on the neck a few times, locking eyes with Yesi.

"That and we had a little setback ourselves." She laughed softly, causing Santana to remember their conversation and blush. "We'll finish ours later tonight, probably all night."

Yesi smirked before smiling. "Well, come on in ladies."

Santana turned her head and kissed Brittany quickly before grabbing her hand and walking in the house.
