Jamie walked out of his house to meet Roy and Phoebe. Phoebe bounced out of the car as soon as Roy had turned it off, opening the back door to grab her bag. Jamie spied a large box while the door was open.
"What's that?" Jamie asked.
Roy crane around to look into the backseat and then turned back around, not answering Jamie.
"It's a big box," Jamie continued undeterred, "something for you, Phoebe?"
"No," Phoebe shook her head and headed up the walkway to the door.
"Then what is it?" Jamie asked again.
"You're worse than Phoebe, so fucking nosy," Roy told him.
"How is I going to learn anything about you if I ain't nosy?"
Roy growled. "It's an architect's model of the house I bought."
"Which one?"
"The one you and I saw together; it's going to be completely renovated, so I had my builder make a model so I could play around with the new set up."
"Sounds amazing, bring it in," Jamie said, turning back around and heading inside.
"Give me a hand then," Roy barked.
Jamie turned around to help him, carrying the box inside and then unpacking it on the dining room table. It was a scale model of the house and land, the roof came off, the first and ground floors were removeable to stand alone. Roy showed Phoebe how the walls moved around, the staircase was removeable, and the box of scale furniture allowed him to see how the spaces would look when they were moved around. The walls hooked on the top of the outside walls which seemed to be immovable until Jamie found little grooves they could be moved into.
"This is amazing," Jamie said, fiddling with the walls on the ground floor, pulling the stairs out and moving things around.
"I have a guy who does them when I have a full renovation."
"What's the guy's name?"
"Caleb. He also made Phoebe's princess castle dollhouse."
"Mint."
"What are we cooking, Uncle Roy?" Phoebe asked.
Roy walked away from Jamie and towards Jamie's kitchen where he started pulling things out of the bags of shopping he'd brought in before he'd gone to pick Phoebe up. Jamie flicked his phone open and connected to his speakers to start some music filling the room while Roy taught Phoebe to make cheese scones.
Jamie let the music and chatter from Roy and Phoebe wash over him as he moved walls and organised then reorganised the house; playing until he thought the plan was practically perfect and the cheese scones were on a plate in front of him – butter melting on them. Jamie didn't normally like scones but a cheese and herb scone was certainly better than any scone he'd ever eaten before.
