MIST
Volume 1: Index_Breaker
Chapter 5: A Certain Member of their family.
So I need to apologise. I was watching the anime when writing the last chapter and that led to the mischaracterisation of Kanzaki. I hope I kind of explained away my mistake well enough in the story but I hope in the future I don't make mistakes character wise and if I do please point them out!
Also I must once more apologise for something. I'm retconning how many children were a part of the IndexBreaker project solely because I was way in over my head with six different characters in one body.
I'm going to keep the adult Index. The emotionless one, the fangirl and Index. So I know it's a small change but I hadn't really shown any other personalities and I was getting stressed about having to do more character interaction that didn't feel like some sort of rehash.
So now there were 120 kids involved in the experiment in groups of three. This means that 117 children died.
Anyway, that's all for now and I hope to see you at the end of the chapter. Also I've had a lot of trouble with FFN recently, I've had a review about not seeing the latest chapter and I can't even see my own reviews anymore. If anyone knows the cause I'd appreciate a comment. Preferably on Ao3 since I can't read my FFN reviews.
Future me: I don't know what the issue was but it is fixed now.
(Kamijou Touma)
"But first." Ozpin says, interrupting the eager trio.
Kamijou is confused. Didn't he just tell them that they could go looking for Index?
"With all the recent advancements in technology we have ended up allowing students to participate in a new activity." Ozpin explains, confusing the trio.
"Volunteers from the general education course are now participating in our 'Person in the chair' initiative. By Using state of the art bodycam technology willing students from the general course will act as strategists and guides in the heat of battle." He explains further.
"What does that have to do with us?" Misaka asks the headmaster.
Ozpin looks down at his scroll and says. "Any moment now." There's a knocking sound. "Come in." Ozpin tells the person knocking.
In walks Professor Goodwitch and a small girl who has short black hair and golden-brown eyes. Around her head is a headband made of artificial flowers. She's also wearing a female uniform.
"This is Uiharu Kazari. She too comes from Academy City and is one of the smartest people currently attending Beacon despite only being a first year. Her knowledge of technology is rivaled only by experts at Atlas." Ozpin introduces the girl and she blushes at the praise. "And from today she'll be your 'girl in the chair'."
(How much does she know?)
Kamijou can't help but be sceptical. Sure in theory this is an amazing opportunity but he thought Ozpin of all people would value their need for secrecy.
"Tell her as much or as little as you want to. She is simply here to help you do your job faster and safer." Ozpin states as if reading his mind.
Kamijou sighs.
(Damn Professor Ozpin and his schemes.)
The girl recovers from her embarrassment before standing straighter. "As you already know I'm Uiharu Kazari and it's a pleasure to be working with you!" She exclaims shyly. She goes to shake everyone's hands but trips and falls into Misaka.
"Sorry." The girl apologises.
"It's fine." Misaka accepts the apology. "I'm Misak–"
"You're Misaka Mikoto, the level five known as the Railgun, I'm a big fan!" The girl exclaims as she rambles on about all the facts she knows about Biri-Biri.
It's a long while before the girl finally quietens down and Kamijou finds that Professors Goodwitch and Ozpin have left.
(Index. We're coming.)
(Kanzaki Kaori)
"Is the boy okay?" She asks, her voice calm and unemotional. However for those that know her well like Stiyl can tell there is a hint of guilt in his voice.
She really did believe the boy had Aura. She was not used to facing opponents that were fragile like the Kamijou boy.
"He's alive at least." Stiyl replies. "It was not your fault."
"How is it not my fault?" Kanzaki asks, the scream of pain from the boy had been horrifying and yet seeing him stand up to fight for Index had been impressive.
"You were worried for Index. The second the tracker was somehow nullified. You and I rushed to find the only person that could have done it." Stiyl replies his voice calm as he lets out a puff of smoke. "You panicked, that's all."
But it is her responsibility not to panic. That boy was just doing what she was. Looking for Index because he loves her. She sees Index as her little sister, even if the girl doesn't remember it herself.
"Any progress on finding Index?" Stiyl asks as he crushes his cigarette beneath his foot.
"No." Kanzaki replies. Her voice is empty, almost machine-like.
"Then we better hurry up. The brat won't waste any time looking for the girl once he wakes up." Stiyl says, sighing in annoyance.
(Kamijou Touma)
"So you're looking for your teammate who has some bad guys chasing her?" Uiharu asks the trio.
"Mhm." Pigtails confirms.
"Okay then. What's she look like?" The headband wearing girl asks the trio, Kamijou can tell the girl looks interested in knowing the details but is trying to be professional. He can appreciate that.
Misaka and Kuroko think for a minute but come up with a blank. "I mean, I know she has silver hair and it's hard to miss her big green eyes but…" Misaka explains trying to verbalise her thoughts.
However Kamijou has no such problem. He still remembers his first meeting with her. Her big green eyes were cold and empty. Her long flowing silver hair was caught up in his hood from her sleeping in it. He also remembers her face. It was frozen in a thin line. She was neither happy nor sad. There was simply nothing.
Her pale white skin glowed in the little light that was left of day time. And yet no matter how clearly he remembers her that's not going to get back his teammate and friend. There is an empty place in his heart reserved for the four girls.
The way the oldest seems to reminisce about something whenever she sees children frolicking about outside. Or the way that the excitable girl's eyes light up whenever they talk about something Huntress related. This Index truly is a fangirl. Or the way the one he assumes to be the youngest is cold, distant, one could even say emotionless and yet she's brimming with curiosity.
She's smart. Being the Index in control when in lessons and such and to be honest Kamijou is slightly jealous of Index because of it.
Who wouldn't want to have a super smart friend to take over in lessons and get them good grades?
He's brought out of his thoughts by Kuroko who looks at him in concern. "Are you ok?" She mouths to the boy who was so kind to her when she was feeling down.
Kamijou wants to say yes. To tell them this isn't their problem and that he can do this on his own. He doesn't want to put his friends in danger and yes Biri-Biri is included in that statement. He's loved spending time as a member of team Mist and although they haven't done much fighting-wise yet as a team he trusts all of them to have his back.
He shakes his head at the girl who understands. She looks at him sympathetically. Kamijou feels pathetic. Here he is all high and mighty after finally getting into Beacon and he can't even save one girl. A girl that means so much to him.
Biri-Biri and Uiharu come up with a plan for the team to follow. Uiharu will scour any and all security camera feeds she can get her hands on. Pigtails will take to the sky, hopping from building to building. Misaka hopes to use her powers to speed across the ground to catch anything that Kuroko misses.
"What about me?" Kamijou can't help but ask. Index is supposed to be his responsibility.
"You need to rest." Misaka replies seriously with no hesitation. "You nearly died out there and you still haven't fully healed."
Kamijou clenches his fist.
(Why don't they get it?)
It's his fault that this happened. Index is out there, scared and alone. (Well as alone as someone who is actually four people can be) He can't just sit here and hope for the best while some mad scientist organisation is out there looking for Index.
But he also knows his teammates. They won't let him leave. At least not in the state he's in.
"Fine. But as soon as you've got something I'm joining you." Kamijou admits defeat.
The girls thank him before leaving. Uihara leaves a bit later. No doubt tasked with making sure he doesn't leave.
He guesses it's time he just sits back, relaxes and hopes for the best.
…
(No fucking way in hell that's happening!)
As soon as he's sure the girls aren't watching him in some way he finds himself limping slightly to his dorm.
He throws on his clothes including another of his white and purple hoodies. His trainers are dirty and he can even see a bit of his blood on there. He'll have to clean them later.
As he goes to leave his dorm he hears someone call out to him. "Kamijou!" He turns to see that the voice belongs to Weiss of all people.
"What?" He snaps at the girl. He doesn't have time for this. Index is still out there.
"Well excuse me for worrying about you." Weiss comments in her usual sassy voice.
"What is there to worry about?" Kamijou can't help but retort. He doesn't know why he's being such an asshole.
"Ruby certainly disagrees with you." Weiss snaps back.
(Oh)
A part of him had forgotten that Ruby had saved him. He can't imagine how upset the girl must have been. He was on death's door before the girl had saved him.
"I'm–" Kamijou goes to apologise. He feels incredibly guilty for neglecting one of his friend's feelings.
"Shut it and go talk to her, idiot." Weiss shushes him by placing a finger on his lips.
"Where is she?" Kamijou asks as he blushes.
"Where do you think she is?" The girl can't help but tease the boy. Kamijou smiles at the girl.
"Thanks…Ice queen." Kamijou replies before running off.
"Get back here you doofus and apologise!" Weiss screams at the boy before smirking.
(It's good to see him smiling again.)
Kamijou runs up a few flights of stairs before he finally finds the girl sitting on a bench outside. "Ruby?" He calls out to the girl hesitantly.
Kamijou doesn't even know what happened next as he hears the sound of shattering glass and Ruby appears in front of him and tackles him into the ground. He can hear her quietly sobbing into his chest.
He wraps his arms around the distraught girl. "Are…Are you ok?" He asks. His voice is filled with uncertainty. The girl mumbles something into his chest.
"Could you…uh…repeat that please?" Kamijou asks. "I didn't hear even a word of what you said." He further explains to the girl.
"I'm okay." Is all the girl replies. This concerns Kamijou because Ruby is the most outgoing person he knows. She's always jumping about from one place to the next. Her every movement is usually filled with almost an infinite amount of energy and yet at the moment she seems…sluggish.
(Yeah right…)
An ugly feeling worms its way into his gut. After taking a breath Kamijou notices the smell of cookies in the air. Kamijou puts his hand out flat. "Have you been stress eating again Ruby?" Kamijou admonishes the sugar-filled teen.
Ruby turns 'Ruby' Red. God he hates Yang. That's the kind of dad joke/pun that she'd use in this situation.
"Nooooo…" The girl says unconvincingly.
Kamijou just stares.
Staaaaaarrrrreeeeeeeee
"Alright! Alright! Fine!" The girl huffs in embarrassment. "Here," She says, handing over the bag of cookies.
"Good Girl!" He exclaims to the girl as he begins petting her head. It's hard not to think of Ruby as like a puppy. Cute, excitable and in love with food. So it's times like these that his mental image of her wins out and he begins to treat her like a dog.
Ruby seems to enjoy the attention for a moment before pouting. "I am not a dog!" The girl screams in frustration. She then goes on a rant about how un-doglike she is and that he's an idiot for even considering the thought.
Kamijou smiles.
(She's smiling…)
"Looks like you are feeling better now."Kamijou comments with a smile on his face.
"Promise to be careful," Ruby says after a while. "I know I won't be able to stop you from doing whatever it is that got you in that situation. Just know that if you ever need help that team RWBY will come to help!" The girl tells the teen. He smiles.
"I promise…" Kamijou replies with uncertainty clear in his voice.
"That's not good enough!" The girl exclaims in disappointment at his uncertainty. "You have to make a pinky promise."
"Isn't that a bit, you know," Kamijou goes to say but Ruby glares at him.
"Don't say it." Ruby pouts.
Kamijou smirks.
"Don't you dare." Ruby cutely glares at him.
"Childish." He finishes with a triumphant smirk.
"You…you…DUMMY!" The girl yells at Kamijou and tries to hit him gently to vent her frustrations. However due to Kamijou's poor luck she ends up slipping on nothing and pushing Kamijou to the ground.
Faces inches apart Ruby finds herself blushing crimson.
She squeals.
Later Kamijou does end up making a pinky promise with the black haired girl.
(Kamijou Touma) Friday September 7th
A couple of days have passed with nothing to note. Classes have gone on like usual or well he assumes so. He's only been there on his first day. Every waking moment since his encounter with the Edgy teen and scary woman has been spent looking for Index with no leads. None.
(Great.)
He sighs to himself. Kuroko has been bearing the burden of education. Not because she's the smartest (That title belongs to Index) But because she's an excellent notetaker who can dumb down her notes enough so that even an idiot like this Kamijou can understand.
Uiharu has been spending most of her time in classes. But whenever she's got a break she resumes the search for a girl she doesn't even know. Kamijou is impressed by the girl's dedication. He'll buy her some expensive tea to thank her later. She likes that kind of thing apparently at least according to Biri-Biri that is.
The dark sky above tells Kamijou that his search for the day is almost over. His senses are overwhelmed as he notices he is walking by some kind of fish shop. The smell is so intense Kamijou wants to gag.
(So strong!)
"...Hungry…"
(Is that?)
There's no way. It cannot be fucking possible that the girl they are looking for is so out in the open like this. And yet despite all forms of common sense being shattered Kamijou sees the silver haired girl on a bench nearby.
(WhatdoIdo?)
What can he say to the girl to get her to come back?
"Index?" Her name slips from his mouth so easily. She turns to look at him in alarm. A portal appears next to her. She goes to enter it.
(Not this time!)
Kamijou leaps forward and by some kind of a miracle he negates the portal.
Shatter!
He feels his body slam against Index as they tumble to the ground with him on top of Index and groping her almost nonexistent chest.
"EEEEKKK" Index shrieks suddenly. As it is now late he is spared of any onlookers beating him up for harassing a girl.
"Sorry!" He says as he rushes to get off of the girl. Index looks away blushing. She hurriedly gets up to leave.
"Wait!" Kamijou exclaims as he grabs the girl's arm to stop her from leaving. "You can't just leave like that!" He squawks Indignantly.
"I can't?" The girl asks emotionlessly and Kamijou notices how seamless the switch between the Indexes has become. It seemed painful before but now…now it's different.
"No. No you cannot." Kamijou states.
"Ok…So what exactly do you want from me exactly?"
"What do you mean what do I want from you?" Kamijou can't help but spit out in frustration. "You're my friend and a member of team MIST. We want you to come back."
Index trembles slightly. "But..but they'll find me and hurt you guys." She replies in fear.
Kamijou can't help but feel how stupid that fear is. Beacon is protected by some of the most powerful and talented huntsmen in the whole of Remnant. It took him leaving Beacon's grounds to be attacked. The slash on his back had left behind a memento, a reminder of how he felt that day; a scar.
"We don't care!" He argues hoping to ease the girl's fears. "We don't care if we get attacked. We don't care if we have to fight some psycho organisation. We care about having you there in the morning when we wake up and hearing you whine about how hungry you are!"
Index turns bright red. "You are our friend, you are our teammate and you are also a member of our little family!" He exclaims finishing his rant that came out far cheesier than it sounded in his head.
Index begins to cry. Kamijou worries that someone will notice them. However he finds that nobody is around. It's deathly quiet.
Too Quiet
DANGER!
His well honed instincts are the only thing that saves him from the sneak attack coming from the people chasing Index. His instincts aren't some kind of special power. After many years of being caught up in some incredibly crazy shit he's learned to trust his instincts. Or more accurately, his brain reacting to something he hasn't even registered as having heard yet.
Spark
Such a faint sound tells his brain that something is coming.
Shatter
His head whips around just in time to see a spear of fire make contact with his right hand. The next second everything other than his right hand is bound by thin metal wires. This includes his right arm until just before his wrist.
(Shit.)
"How sweet." The pyrokinetic comments pretending to wipe away a fake tear.
"Index. RUN!" He yells at the girl who is currently frozen in fear. He desperately tries to move in his binds. Fidgeting a little he notices that his clothes are now torn.
(Shit, they're incredibly sharp.)
"If you move much more you will be cut." A machine-like voice tells the wielder of Imagine Breaker. His scar aches in recognition.
"Standing still didn't stop you last time." Kamijou snarkily retorts.
"And I am sorry about that, however I have my own priorities. Index comes first." The girl mechanically replies to his retort.
"Why do you care?" Kamijou asks in disgust.
However before he can get his answer the redhead chimes in. "We are wasting time, Kanzaki, let's get a move on."
The sword wielding woman–Kanzaki shakes her head. "He deserves answers. He is just like us after all." She counters the redheads argument.
"How is a brat like him anything like us?" The teen can't help but ask as he grabs Index and pulls out some handcuffs. He puts the handcuffs on the girl and they begin to glow black.
"What are those?" He can't help but ask however the duo ignore him.
"Simple. He loves Index from the bottom of his heart." Kanzaki replies looking at Kamijou.
(Love.)
Kamijou clenches his still bound fist.
(How dare they claim to love Index.)
"Very well–You have te–" The pyrokinetic goes to say.
Shatter!
After clenching his fist Kamijou had noticed that if he risked cutting his arm he could negate the wires near his right ear. He had wondered why his right hand was unbound but then it was obvious.
They are obviously something he could negate (Whether they are made out of dust or the product of Kanzaki's semblance he does not know) she obviously was hesitant to let his binds touch his right hand in any way.
Drip Drip Drip.
Blood drips from the many cuts coming from his arm. He moves through the pain and throws a right hook at the tall teen. "How dare you claim to love Index…Look at her!" Kamijou yells in rage. Index is white as a sheet. Her eyes blank as if they've lost their spark.
Within the second he's bound again by Kanzaki. Yet he pushes on with his speech hoping to find a way to negate the wires once more.
"She's terrified of you! You've been hunting her since she escaped so how can you possibly claim to love her?" He asks in outrage.
Kanzaki releases the wires much to Kamijou's confusion. However the second after that he feels her nodachi press against his neck. "Let me talk." The seemingly emotionless girl orders Kamijou.
He feels a chill go down his spine. His scar aches once more. He begins to shake, only slightly, in fear. His body tries to show no fear. He doesn't want to show the monsters before him that he is scared.
However, Index seems to have found the courage to speak up. "I don't even know you! Why are you so obsessed with bringing me back?" The girl can't help but ask in confusion.
Kamijou feels the Nodachi press against his neck ever so slightly harder. The girl behind him twitches. The guy holding the now struggling Index looks angry.
"It all started so long ago…" The girl begins to explain with a nostalgic look in her eyes.
(Kanzaki Kaori)
"Kaori! Kaori! Kaori!" The young girl with incredibly soft silver hair exclaims over and over again. Her big green eyes shine in excitement at her recent discovery.
"What is it?" A much younger Kanzaki asks the girl who is like a ball of energy. The girl currently bugging her is a girl, a girl whose name she had long forgotten for she went by a different name in the present: Index.
She finds it so hard to reminisce about the days before the girl became Index and yet she remembers it all so clearly.
"I figured out what my semblance is!" The girl exclaims as she puffs out her chest in pride.
Curiosity gets the better of Kanzaki. "What is your semblance then?" She asks the girl hoping to satiate her own curiosity.
"It's a library!" The girl exclaims.
"Pardon?" Kanzaki asks the girl. Did she just say–
"A library! I can keep anything I learn in a giant library in my head!" The girl explains in excitement however to Kanzaki, a young girl who was only eight years old at the time, it seems rather boring, she'd rather be swinging a sword than reading a book.
…
It's been a month since she learned of the girl's semblance. She never expected it to come to this. They were in the hospital with the girl's doctor explaining something.
"You are the girl's friends right?" The doctor asks for confirmation. Kanzaki and Stiyl nod.
"Well to explain…Despite her semblance being a passive semblance, meaning it works constantly even against the person's wishes, it drains Aura constantly and then when that runs out it seems to feed off of the girl itself. With her level of Aura she's got a year at most left to live. I'm sorry" The doctor explains, however Kanzaki doubts he means that because he looks like Christmas has come early.
Stiyl being the youngest of the three of them doesn't understand most of what was said but he does understand that he'll be losing a dear friend soon.
…
As days passed Kanzaki tried to stay cheerful. She slowy locked up her emotions deep within her heart and became cold, mechanical, machine-like.
The name of her friend's doctor was Sebastian White.
…
The girl's doctor. Dr. White had a proposal for her friend.
"If you participate in my experiment, the Index_Breaker project, I can promise you that you have a chance to live and if not you will help me prevent others from becoming like you." The Doctor offers the girl who had become sickly, pale and drowsy in the last two weeks as her condition rapidly deteriorated.
The girl desperate for even a small glimmer of hope takes the man's hand.
…
"You should say your goodbyes." Dr. White says, chuckling. He had long abandoned his charismatic persona and had shown his true colours. An evil man jealous of another's capabilities.
There was a person. They had an unbelievable semblance. The power to negate anything supernatural at all…The reason the Index_Breaker project came about at all.
This person is known as 'Imagine Breaker.'
…
"I'm sorry but who are you?" Index asked her coldly and her heart shattered, she was fine just yesterday so why? Why did Index have to suffer more?
White later reveals the power of his semblance. He's placed a seal made of his Aura somewhere on Index's body and he can erase her memory any time he wants. This also means he could completely destroy her brain and make her a baby again.
And now she and Stiyl are forced to stand by and watch while White experiments on their friend who can't even remember them.
…
They tried so hard to save her and they only made things worse. Three children left Atlas in the hopes of saving a loved one.
None of them ever returned the same.
(Kamijou Touma)
What the hell did he just hear? Index was dying and somehow having more Soul's helped that?
None of this was making any sense. He is still vividly aware of the Nodachi pressed against his neck. He was so sure they were the bad guys, that everything was black and white.
But then he also knows that things are never so simple despite how much he wishes for it to be so. He's not smart enough to be able to understand the minds of those smarter than him. So all he can do is judge the situation based on his own views and decide who to side with.
And according to his views he's pissed off. But then he also knows that he probably would have done the same thing…Damnit why is everything so complicated!
He wants to run his hands through his hair in frustration but he's also aware what will happen if he tries to move.
"H-How is that possible?" Index asks distraught. If Kamijou was right, her thoughts on this whole story would be something like 'How could people I trusted hunt me like some sort of Grimm?'
"Enough chatting. Let's get out of here." Stiyl orders Kanzaki.
"Very well." He feels the sword move away from his neck as the woman replies. Index tries to escape from the duo but is unable to use her semblance. To stop the girl from squirming, Stiyl knocks her out.
As he sees the girl go limp in the man's arms he feels a burning feeling emerge from his stomach and spread around his body. He knows what this feeling is, in fact this feeling is something he has a complicated history with.
It's rage.
(Index!)
Is he really going to let Stiyl and Kanzaki get away? Is he really going to lose Index again?
(NO!)
He can't, no won't let that happen! Index is his friend. What can he do to help? How can he stop them? Think Kamijou! Think! He's a simple man and so he comes up with a simple solution.
POW!
His right fist makes contact with Kanzaki, cancelling her Aura for just a moment. It's enough however to shock Stiyl into panicking slightly.
Now his next move needs explaining. While looking for Index he had a lot of time to think and he realised one of his biggest problems was mobility. Most of his team was the type to hit fast and get out of there. Misaka has her 'Rampage Dress' Kuroko can teleport and Index can create portals.
However his right hand negates all of their abilities and he knows that he can't risk slowing down the team. Eventually brilliance struck and his mind whirled with a single possibility; Lightning Dust shoes.
By infusing the dust into the shoes he can increase his speed. Not by a lot but enough to emulate a hunter enhancing their body with Aura which is why most hunters forgo this technique. It was a step in the right direction at least.
His enhanced speed catches Stiyl off guard for a moment. He somehow manages to wrestle Index from Stiyl's grasp. Making as much distance as possible he tries to negate the cuffs on Index.
(They have to be made out of dust right, or someone's semblance.)
The worrying thought that this could be some new type of tech. It seemed to stop her from channeling her aura. At least by the surprise on Index's face.
As his hand presses against the handcuffs nothing happens. He lifts the girl up and puts her on his back.
(Shit, she's heavier than I thought she'd be.)
He has no way to escape. So hoping with all the pathetic amount of luck he has left in this life of his he gambles. They claim to love Index, so he will try talking to them.
"What's stopping you two from letting me find and negating this mark on Index? Why can't this all be over with a single touch?" Kamijou asks, hoping to stall for time and gather more information.
"Why should we answer you?" Stiyl snarkily retorts before getting another fireball ready. Kanzaki gives Stiyl a stern look before turning to Kamijou.
"He knows people." Is all Kanzaki can come up with as a reply to his question.
"He knows people?" Kamijou repeats. How can someone knowing people change the outcome of their situation?
"I suppose I should rephrase that. He knows the right people." Kanzaki reaffirms her statement.
Well now that she phrases it like that even an idiot like Kamijou can get what she's trying to insinuate. By knowing the right people Kanzaki probably means he knows important people like Hunters or government officials.
But…
"That doesn't change anything!" Kamijou exclaims in frustration. Index begins to stir awake.
"Oh shut up, a brat like you doesn't understand this is all for…" Stiyl goes to say but Kamijou shuts him up.
"...Index, I get it!" He finishes the teen's sentence in a mocking tone. "Stop being a hypocrite, if this was really all for Index you would consider how she feels about this!"
Index blearily opens her eyes only to see Kamijou standing in between her and her so-called childhood friends.
"If you had really considered how Index would feel you would ask yourselves 'Would Index want to live in exchange for her freedom?' or 'Is spending all day every day in a cell really living or is it simply existing?' Look at her!" He rants at the two before him and he can tell he's caught Stiyl off guard.
"If she's in danger then stay! Stay by her side and protect her, become the heroes of her story and save her from harm!" He goes on turning towards Index.
One stride is all it takes.
"Let me just say one last thing. This is your turn to make a stand. You can stop me and nothing will change, Index will return to being that…that monster's tool. Or you can let me do this and help me save her, help her be free and experience all the joys that were ripped away from her." He finally finishes.
Stiyl cancels his fireball. He can feel Kanzaki's piercing gaze on him, however unlike its usual ferocity it seems almost impressed with him. Does that mean a beauty like Kanzaki is impressed with him? Shaking his head to clear it of any of his momentary dirty thoughts. He looks at Index.
"After all this, I forgot the most important bit, Index, do you want this?" He asks the girl, because despite all of his hatred for the injustice before his eyes he can't save someone who doesn't want to be saved.
"Please, please help me!" Index exclaims as tears begin to leak out of her eyes.
A sudden burst in confidence fills Kamijou. Because for the first time in his life his ability will be the start of someone's good luck rather than the end of it.
His mind goes back to all the memories he's made with Index even in such a short time of them being friends and yet. Index is important to him. She means something to him.
She is his friend and someone he trusts.
(Where would someone want to hide something like this?)
His mind first goes to Index's breasts. Or lack thereof. But that's too obvious. As his mind wanders lower he blushes crimson. Then it's like a lightbulb turned on above his head as he looks at her lips.
(Her mouth!)
"Okay this is going to be incredibly awkward so I'm going to have to ask you to bear with me, ok?" Kamijou asks as his cheeks become slightly pink.
"Ok…?" Index agrees quietly.
After receiving Index's permission his right Index finger slips in between her soft lips and into her mouth. First he tries the inside of her cheeks but no luck. Then he tries on and underneath her tongue but that also fails. Finally he tries the roof of her mouth and…
Shatter!
However rather than joy or relief he has no time to be excited as the world around them explodes. It's almost as if the heavens descend upon them as seemingly millions of white angelic feathers appear in the night sky. The stars shine even brighter in conjunction with the feathers.
It's then that he notices Index has switched once more. Her cold and emotionless stare strangely reminds him of Kanzaki.
"Nothing in any of my records mention anything like this." Index states matter of factly, getting straight to the point. The feathers begin to shake and Kamijou hugs Index tightly in the hopes of shielding her from whatever is coming.
But then he remembers that Stiyl and Kanzaki are behind them. He looks up and notices the truly massive area the feathers cover.
(Shit! It's all or nothing I guess.)
For in the next moment something unnatural happens. Something ancient, something magical. Kamijou runs away from Index and the others.
"Touma?" Index calls after him. But he doesn't reply and once he's a good distance away from them he smiles sadly.
(I'm surprised it's come to this…)
He raises his right hand with his palm open. His right hand begins to ache.
His bad luck isn't simply a trait of Kamijou Touma. It's the trait of 'Imagine Breaker'. Like his ability to negate supernatural abilities his hand also draws in supernatural things. He theorises this includes the concept of luck. Specifically good luck.
As such it also draws attacks made of supernatural power towards his right hand.
The feathers come crashing down.
Kamijou looks at them. Their glow reminds him of his last conversation with Index before this.
"Whether you're willing to follow me into the depths of hell."
And then the ache in his arm explodes. Suddenly an unknown surge of power courses through him. Something that he knew was missing but was always sort of there.
Aura.
Anyone who saw the sight before them would claim they were hallucinating, for what they saw was impossible. As the boy raised his right hand everyone began to suffocate under the pressure. A near infinite amount of Aura burst out of the boy.
Some would claim they saw a monster. Others would claim they saw a god.
However what they really saw was the birth of a dragon.
(Kamijou Touma)
(What the fuck?)
He doesn't know what the hell is happening but Kamijou has a gut feeling that he should just go with the flow.
As the feathers fall he notices that they seem magnetically attracted to his right hand. As one feather pierces him he notices that something is missing. By the fifth he notices that he's losing his memories.
However there is one thought that the feathers can't take from him.
(Index, I will protect you!)
Thousands more feathers crash into ?.
(Who am I?)
The last thing he sees before he collapses is a girl with silver hair and his last thought is (I…love you.)
Finally once everything is done Kamijou gets to rest. For Kamijou Touma as you know him is gone. Friday September 7th would eventually be known as the day that Kamijou Touma died and a faker took his place.
Or at least according to this Kamijou that is.
"Nobody calls it that you Ape!" Pigtails yells at the misfortunate boy.
So another chapter down. I'm halfway done with the epilogue for arc one and I've realised that it's been a while since I updated this. To be honest I thought I'd already added this chapter ages ago. Anyway, onto the reviews.
Majin Othinus:Touma/Weiss would be awesome. it will also be the first time this ship sets sail in any Toaru/RWBY story. And their second comment for a good misaki story, check out three days by armoredcorenineball here on FF
First off, thanks for the comment and I agree Weiss X Touma does sound fun. It's certainly a possibility, the only problem is I cannot see Weiss sharing Touma with anyone. But maybe I'll find a way to make it work. Second, thanks for the recommendation.
BlueJack22: Okay so here are my thoughts first of all disregard my last comment I read the authors know more carefully and I jumped the gun way sooner than I thought so yeah but anyway I like this story it's a fresh new take on the series especially with this crossover we're not doing the same tired tropes, Mikoto is well balanced she still has a bit of Tsundere in her but it's not overbearing where she just shocks Touma 24/7 and then Kuroko holy mackerel I love this Slow Burn approach I like KamiKuro because of the potential what it could be because those two work together very well, Index oh my Index this is one of the best incarnation of index I've ever seen ever it's bold it's fresh it's new given how the world of Rwby works there will not be no magic because magic doesn't exist and hasn't exist for a long time so this fresh new take not only connects her to Toma but make her unique especially with the different index personalities not only that this is the most well-balanced I've ever seen her, index is not a very complex character she's a simple character with some complexities in her she had a tragic past but also she is a sweet, adorable, and bratty teen because with the constant memory erasures and never really gave her a chance to have a normal childhood and when the situation calls for it she will take things seriously, Anyway sorry for my paragraph long essay I'm just a huge index fan and I'm just happy that someone gets her you know she's always reduced to a side character or a joke or dumb brat but anyway before I wrap this up there's one thing I find weird the lack of Aogami in the beginning of the story is that something I should be looking forward to hmmm?
Ok, that is a long ass comment. THANK YOU! I've always wanted one of these. Also I'm breaking it up into sections so I can talk about it easier. Also yeah. I'm sorry for confusing you, I think chapter 2.5 for christmas didn't help much.
But finally we get to the start of Touma's memory loss.
I like this story it's a fresh new take on the series especially with this crossover we're not doing the same tired tropes, Mikoto is well balanced she still has a bit of Tsundere in her but it's not overbearing where she just shocks Touma 24/7
I mean I wanted to keep her as a tsundere but I think it's better that she only shocks Touma when he's sort of in the wrong. Or when misunderstandings happen. But I don't like that she shocks him just because and I think that living with him will slowly help her realise that asking first and shocking later is an option.
then Kuroko holy mackerel I love this Slow Burn approach I like KamiKuro because of the potential what it could be because those two work together very well
I absolutely love KamiKuro, one of my all time favourite ships. I just really like her character plus she's a pervert like Touma ;) Misaka doesn't know what she's getting into. Also just a note, this fic while mature, mainly because I swear way too much, is going to remain wholesome. Cuddles, kisses and the ever lewd act of holding hands but I don't plan to write smut for this fic.
Index oh my Index this is one of the best incarnation of index I've ever seen ever it's bold it's fresh it's new given how the world of Rwby works there will not be no magic because magic doesn't exist and hasn't exist for a long time so this fresh new take not only connects her to Toma but make her unique especially with the different index personalities not only that this is the most well-balanced I've ever seen her, index is not a very complex character she's a simple character with some complexities in her she had a tragic past but also she is a sweet, adorable, and bratty teen because with the constant memory erasures and never really gave her a chance to have a normal childhood and when the situation calls for it she will take things seriously, Anyway sorry for my paragraph long essay I'm just a huge index fan and I'm just happy that someone gets her you know she's always reduced to a side character or a joke or dumb brat
I think I've found Index's number one fan lol! But yeah, she gets some unnecessary hate for some reason and I love her. I hope you aren't disappointed by my retcon. I just felt very overwhelmed writing 6 characters in one body. And finally…
Anyway, before I wrap this up there's one thing I find weird the lack of Aogami in the beginning of the story is that something I should be looking forward to hmmm?
I mean I have an idea, kind of, but yeah. Aogami will be making an appearance, I just don't know whether he'll be important or not yet.
Aq11: Kurokami ships fic are very rare to find so im glad you made one. Rooting you all the best on the next chapter
People really love Kurokami or KamiKuro, I prefer KamiKuro, but still thanks for the comment and the encouragement.
Spoopygost: Annnd another chapter done.
As one dude in the reviews mentioned i think Kanzaki feels pretty ooc. Like she seems way colder and more brutal than usual. Is that on purpose or just a mishap in characterization?
Anyways since this is a harem i think (obviously) you should add some rwby girls into the mix here, which I think i can already see with the subtle hints of moments you've written Blake with Touma. Some other ships perhaps an upperclassman like Velvet or Coco, or maybe older women like Goodwitch ( let it be this one pls Touma deserves 1 w atleast).
Also one last thing, how cracked out do you want the ships to be? Cause there has to be like fineline between "maybe this could work" to "oh fuck it why not this one as well". Cause i was gonna suggest have touma aboard the triple schnee express cuz why not.
Another long comment YAY! Anyway I've already explained Kanzaki, hopefully. I mean I agree we need some RWBY girls and I hope I helped work towards that goal this chapter. But I also agree. Touma needs a win. Except he already has one. Kinda. If you can figure out what I mean I'll give you an imaginary cookie.
I love the idea of the 'triple schnee express' lol. But the only problem is that would make it six girls already and my absolute maximum is 8 but I'd prefer to keep it at 6-7. Although think about this absolutely cracked combo Touma X Raven X Willow X Summer Rose X Glynda. Sadly it is not to be for Touma isn't that lucky.
Amatsumi: Please continue to develop the KamiKuro ship
Aye Aye, Sir/Madam *Salutes*
ttege: Ilike Touma X harem.
At first,no one is good at as chapter after chapter is completed,we will manage to do it.
Thank you.
Wattpad have a fiction of A Certain Remnants Imagine breaker.
Thanks for the advice and another comment. That's all four point five chapters now right?
DarkMatter69: I wonder when a certain senpai of Kamijou would come into play? would she just be a civilian who works with the government or someone with huntress training posing as a civilian with a semblance to convince people.
I mean you just have to wait and see but I'll give you a hint: Mask. Figure out what I mean by that.
Anyway that's it for this chapter byeeeeeee!
