"The partially, nearly Naked Gun 3 : 'They Saved Crumpf's Brain'..."
Summary: Frank Drebbin is out of retirement and on the case when he learns the fanatical former president and loser candidate Fred Crumpf may not be quite as dead as he left him and he and/or his crazies including his family threaten the newly elected President Woodrowmina Wilson.
Of course, Nordberg is no longer on the squad because of, well, we never talk about that...
Part XXXV…
"Excuse me, sir…?" the slender waifish young woman who'd passed by him earlier, approached Frank as he emerged from the men's room. "Are you Lieutenant Frank Drebbin, LA Police Squad?"
"Yes, that's right. And you are?" he eyed her id.
"Susan Waison? I work in Records. Just started, actually…" wan smile, brushback of hair.
"I see. Well, what can I do for you, Miss?" Frank smiled.
"Well, I hope I'm not being too forward…But I did see you on TV about nine the other night, in LA, with the President…?" she began, timid tone.
"And, well…" she smiled again. "That agent, the one who was arrested? She was actually supervising me, during my internship last year and…"
"Sorry, what time did you see me in LA the other night?" Frank asked.
Shit…Rory sighed. Of all things to get wrong…
"Well, it was nine in LA, but midnight here…" she noted.
"Uh-huh. Lets have a look at your skull, sweetheart."
She blinked… "What?"
"The lady in question, was arrested for having had her skull opened. And she was supposedly away from duty recovering from skiing injuries for much of last year. So…" Frank pulling gun. "I'll need to see your skull, just in case."
That's what they're doing? Lorelei, listening and watching from slight door crack from the conference room…Opening skulls for something? Boy…
Wait? Arrested for it? Something wrong there, even if I'm kinda opposed to law in general.
Well, thank goodness we're not paid to dispute ethics…And that our business is killing people without questions. Else I might be troubled by all this…
"Ummn?" (Arrested for it?) "Well…Sure…But I worked with her after she recovered. Could you please put that gun down, it's making me nervous." Rory, lifting hair to show part of her skull. "See, nothing opened…"
"Ok…No signs of an operation." He lowered gun. "But the girl was a field agent and you got the time wrong, so I'd like you to come with me to speak to the Director. Just a formality…Whoa." As she pulled up gun suddenly.
"Fraid not, Lieutenant. I am one of Morene's people but not officially on agency staff." Smile. "Though I do apologize for slipping up on the time thing. Drop the gun, sir. Please." Earnest look.
"Slipped through our security, eh?" he eyed her.
"Before they tightened things up, Dr. Morene brought me in as an assistant from his own staff…Afraid Susan Waison is a phony but the id is real enough." She nodded. "Now I'm asking politely, drop your gun or I will shoot."
I'd call that plausible, even if we've never really met Morene…Lorelei thought, peering carefully.
"I doubt it, in here." He noted calmly. "Every agent in this building will be on you in a second."
"Building's been closing, Lieutenant…Or did you forget the time difference?" Rory eyed him with smile. "I assure you I can shoot you and still get out before anyone comes to help you." Cold look.
Here comes the big scene…Oooh how I love watching my little girl act…Lorelei beamed, watching. But don't make it too easy…
"Surely you can see that…Now drop your gun." Rory ordered.
Frank looking round a bit…
"What?" she stared. "You tryin' to distract me?" she frowned.
"No, I'm looking for this Shirley. Your partner I presume."
Don't call me Shirley, Lorelei thought as she watched through the door crack. But you are close…
"Why not go ahead and kill me then? Or are you afraid I'm a faster shot?" Frank noted to Rory.
What? Lorelei stared. Now, wait a minute…
"Are you suggesting we shoot it out, Western style?" Rory stared, rather startled.
I know they're kinda weird out in California but…
"You plan to kill me as soon as I drop the gun, so why not?" he shrugged.
No, no…We don't play draw! Rory? No draw play! Lorelei, nervously.
"I'm tempted…" Rory smiled. "And I do have the edge on you, old man. But, perhaps I just want to deliver a message rather than kill you. So be sensible and drop it. Before I decide not to waste any more time."
Ok, good…Lets get the gun on the floor, now, honey and then…
"All right, but just let me fix my zipper, I think I left it down." Frank noted.
Eehew, Lorelei thought. Down all this time?
"Eehew, sure…Hey!" Rory cried as Frank, bending over, whanged her gun away.
Wow, he is good. Lorelei thought, tensing for possible rush…
"Dang…" Rory, racing off for the exit now. Frank taking aim… "HOLD IT, sister!"
"Hold it!" Frank called again. Rory almost at the door, she halted, turning.
"You wouldn't shoot an unarmed woman as winsome as me?" she eyed him.
"Just try me, sister."
Hey?! Lorelei tensed, pulling her own gun…Geesh, and I thought he was a nice guy hero type. Well, we may have to keep him alive but…
"Ok…Ok!" Rory put up hands. "Don't shoot."
"Fine, turn around, hands behind your back, sister." He approached her.
"You're pretty sharp. Look, I'll make a deal, Drebbin. You want Morene. I can take you to him." Rory eyed him. Innocently truthful expression…
"You can make that deal with the Director. Turn around, hands behind your back." He noted. Fumbling in pocket for hand cuffs.
Hmmn…Left them in my other pants, damnit.
"I prefer to make it with you, Lieutenant…" she spoke, keeping back turned.
"Oh?"
"Sure…I take you to Morene, he trusts me, he'll let you get in close enough to take him. And you let me go. Fair enough?" she spoke to the wall, back to him.
Sell it, girl. Sell it. But lets watch that it doesn't get blue, Lorelei thought. My baby is only twenty-one in three months after all.
"I don't think I can take that deal, sister." He noted. "Put those hands up a moment, wouldya?"
She raised hands. "He'll make his break if you wait, Drebbin. And he has the info you need."
"Sister, I'm as willing to engage in cheap heroics as the next joe, but it sounds like you've a trap waiting with Morene. Am I wrong?"
She sighed to wall. "I just want out of this…The skull opening stuff I didn't know about. And it sounds crazy. Can't you just make this deal? I'm too young to go to prison." Half-turning to him... Another winsome but fetching smile.
Watch it honey. You know Mama's watching but lets not overdo, Lorelei, frowning…
"Afraid not. Lets go, hands stay up."
She turned around.
"You'll be sorry, Lieutenant. I was offering a fair deal…In fact…"
Watch it, Rory…
"…I might be open to more of a deal than that." Smile.
Ok…Right on the line, missy. Lets pull back there. I love acting too but…
"Sorry, sister…Not a chance."
"Ok…Your…Loss." Smile. "Lets go meet the Director."
Ok…We got through our first big scene. Now the academy award winning one before the Director and company, Lorelei thought.
But, I know you're up for it, sweetie.
