CHAPTER TWO
Galinda hummed quietly to herself as she jotted down the information being spoken by Dr. Dillamond. She'd felt fine all morning - until her stomach suddenly jumped. Her pen fell to her desk and she raised her hand as she stood, prepared to run.
"Yes, Miss Glinda," Dr. Dillamond said.
"I have an emergency, I need to run to the restroom," Galinda said quickly.
"Go ahead."
As Galinda rushed out of the room, Fiyero got up quickly after, but was stopped.
"Mr. Tigelaar, sit please," Dr. Dillamond said.
"It's my fault she doesn't feel good, Sir, I just want to help her."
"Miss Glinda's a big girl, I'm sure she can handle an upset stomach on her own. Sit down."
Fiyero and the Goat stared at each other for a few seconds until the sound of Galinda retching outside pulled Fiyero out of his gaze. He didn't wait for permission, he quickly left the room and rushed to Galinda's side, holding her hair back as she vomited into a trash can. His hand ran over her back soothingly until she finally stopped getting sick.
Her breath was heavy from the lack of oxygen and she rested her head in her hands as she leaned against the trash can.
"You okay?" Fiyero asked.
"No... I hate everything about this, Fiyero. I can't control when it happens and I can't just skip class every day," Galinda's voice cracked.
"It'll get better eventually."
"That's not soon enough."
"Are you done getting si-" Fiyero's question was interrupted by Galinda suddenly vomiting again. He couldn't help but feel guilty. It was his fault they were in this situation. He should have insisted they stay safe. If he had, she wouldn't feel so crummy.
Once her stomach settled, she felt around on her body to find wherever her hidden pockets were. "I need my handkerchief, my nose is bleeding."
"I'll get mine. Here, rinse your mouth," Fiyero said, handing her a water bottle.
While Fiyero took his handkerchief out of her pocket, Galinda swished a few sips of water around her mouth and spit it in the trash can.
"Here. Hold this to your nose," Fiyero said, handing her the cloth. "We should go to the nurse. Maybe they can give you something for the nausea."
"I guess it couldn't hurt..."
With that, Fiyero picked her up bridal style, making her giggle. It wasn't a long walk to the infirmary, so it only took a few minutes to get there. As a nurse walked up, he sat her on the bed.
"Good morning, what brings you in today?" the nurse asked.
"Massive nosebleed," Galinda said.
"Do we know what brought it on? Overheated or anything of the sort?"
"Morning sickness. I'm pregnant," she said quietly.
"She threw up so hard it made her nose bleed," Fiyero said.
"I'm gonna get a cold compress and once the bleeding stops we'll get you cleaned up. How far along are you?" the nurse asked.
"I don't know," Galinda shrugged. "I found out last week, I haven't been to the doctor yet."
"I'm gonna get you a referral to an obstetrician. It's important you go get checked out properly to make sure you and the baby are healthy."
She nodded slowly. "Thank you." As the nurse walked away, Galinda let out a small breath, looking at Fiyero. "I'm sorry this is so... ickifying."
"Just a little blood. I've handled worse," Fiyero said, kissing her head.
"Still gross... Everything about this has been so gross. How am I gonna deal with this for 9 months? Not to mention when it gets here. Babies spit up and poop non-stop."
"Well, you throw up and poop too, I still love you."
Galinda giggled lightly. "Babies poop their pants. I do not."
"Maybe ours will be a genius and come out potty trained."
"Don't get my hopes up."
"When did you change clothes?" Boq asked as he shuffled to catch up with Fiyero and Galinda as they walked across campus.
"Earlier," Galinda said.
"Why?"
"Because I had a bloody nose. I fail to see why my wardrobe is any of your business, Bick."
"Boq."
"I don't care."
"Laundry delivery," Avaric said and he stepped in front of the three. "You have an interesting choice of undergarments, Fiyero," he said, holding up a pair of purple lace underwear.
"Those are Boq's," Fiyero said, causing Galinda to purse her lips to conceal a grin.
Boq's eyes widened. "My choice of underwear isn't your business," he said, grabbing the underwear from him and nervously fidgeting them in his hands.
"Right. Here," Avaric said, passing the bag of laundry to Fiyero.
Once he was gone, Galinda and Fiyero laughed, earning a glare from the Munchkin.
"Why would you tell him that?" Boq asked. "He's gonna tell people and they'll think it's true."
"It was funny," Fiyero said.
"For Oz sake Bick, stop playing with my panties," Galinda said, grabbing them from him and shoving them in the bag.
"It's Boq," Boq said.
"I don't care. Don't you have anything better to do than follow us around like a little lost bear cub?" she asked as they started walking again.
"Not really."
"Well find something. Skedoodle. We were talking."
"Like you were 'talking' last week?"
"March, Munchkin."
Fiyero watched as Boq walked off in another direction. "You could be nicer to him."
"He disgusticifies me."
"Elphaba did too, but you treat her like a friend."
"Elphie is my friend. It took time. Bick is weird."
"He's not that bad."
"He was fondling my panties."
"Yeah, that was weird."
"He's a strangeling."
"We should move in together."
Galinda stopped walking at looked at him for a few seconds. "What?"
"Let's move in together."
"Where? How?"
"We're having a baby. We should be together for this."
"Shiz isn't co-ed."
"It is for family units."
"They have those here?"
"Yeah. I looked into it. It's easy to move to one."
"On what requirements?"
"Well..."
"What?"
"You have to be married."
Galinda's brows rose. "We're not married, Fiyero."
"We could be."
"Excusify me?"
Fiyero sat the laundry bag down and took her hands in his. "We're having a baby. We've bonded for life because of this little life we made together," he said, gently resting his hand on her flat belly. "Why not spend our lives together?"
"Are... are you... proposing?"
"Galinda Arduenna Upland... of the Upper Uplands, of course - will you marry me?"
Galinda's eyes watered as she stared at him. "Oh, Oz..." her voice cracked.
"Sooo... is that a yes?"
"Yes!" she sobbed gently. "Yes, you dumb Winkie, absolutely yes!" Galinda said, kissing his lips.
Fiyero picked her up and spun her around gently before putting her back down. "I love you so much," he said softly, wiping her tears with his thumbs.
"I love you, too," she said with another small sob, burying her face in his chest.
"Everything will work out. It'll be oztastic. It'll be wonderful. You're perfect."
"You're perfect."
"So we're perfect together."
Galinda let out a small squeal as she bounced into hers and Elphaba's room.
"Why are you so giddy?" Elphaba asked.
"Fiyero and I are getting married!"
"He has to actually know about it first, Galinda."
"Oh, he knows this time. He's the one that asked me."
"What?"
"We're getting married!"
"You're 18."
"I'm also pregnant."
"That's no reason to get married."
"Of course it is. I mean, not the only reason, but it's a good reason. Besides, we can't move into the family dorm unless we're married, and with a witchling on the way... it's the most reasonable thing to do having us in the same place."
"I think you might be rushing, Galinda."
"We have to. We're bringing a life into the world. Elphie, why can't you just be happy for me?" Galinda said, her excitement gone as she plopped down on her bed.
"It's not that I'm not happy for you, you're just so young."
"The younger the better."
"That's not always the case, Galinda."
"Momsie and Popsicle got married at my age. They weren't even pregnant with me."
"Getting married just because you're pregnant is ignorant."
"We're raising a witchling together. It's easier to do it if we're living together, and if we're living together, why not get married?"
"What if you don't work as husband and wife?"
"Then we'll deal with that if it ever happens."
"My parents are a prime example of -"
"Your parents cheated on each other," Galinda said, crossing her arms. "Fiyero and I aren't cheating on each other."
"Yet."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"Fiyero is a bachelor."
"He was. Until he met me."
"You believe that?"
"Unless you have proof of Fiyero cheating on me, I don't want to hear any rumors of the sort. Can you please just... at least pretend to be happy for me? You're my best friend, I need you on my side, Elphie..."
Elphaba stayed quiet for a few seconds, watching the tears well up in her best friend's eyes. "I can try. No promises."
"All you can do is try, I supposify," Galinda muttered.
"I can't help the way I feel, Galinda."
"You don't have to bring me down, though."
"I don't mean to."
"You are, though," Galinda's voice cracked.
"Don't cry."
"I can't help it, I'm hormonal and emotional."
"Now you know how I feel."
"You aren't hormonal, you're just being witchy."
"I am a witch. So are you."
"I prefer sorceress. You need to find a partner."
"Excuse me?"
"Bick is single, you know."
"I know. He's desperately single."
"You should give him a shot."
"Why me?"
"So he'll leave me and Fiyero alone. He's always right there. He walked in on us last week - and today he fondled my panties."
Elphaba's face scrunched. "You weren't in them, were you?"
"No."
"What's so bad about him walking in on you?"
"We were... busy..."
"Doing what?"
"Each other."
"Galinda, that's what got you pregnant in the first place."
"It's not like I can get pregnant again."
"I don't understand the hype about sex."
"Because you've never had it," Galinda said, matter-of-factly as she walked to her dresser and pulled out a pair of pajamas.
"I don't feel the need to."
"It's beneficial to some. You know, some of that anger you keep all pent up might be sexual frustration. You should get some relief some day."
"I don't need sex."
"Doesn't have to be sex," she said, opening her underwear drawer and pulling out a plastic package. "Try this. I won't need it."
"What is this?" Elphaba asked, almost appalled.
"A vibrator. Never been used. Never even been opened. You'll thank me later," Galinda said, disappearing into the bathroom.
