Late at night in the Pokemon Center
"Yeah, hold on, hold on." Ash said in a half asleep tone, seeing Riolu's Pokeball shaking vigorously.
Ash picked it up, and began walking outside, only realizing the absurdity of the situation once he'd sent out Riolu.
"Riolu, why did you want to be out here? Also how did you get your Pokeball to shake like that? And how did I know you wanted out here from shaking your Pokeball?" Ash asked.
"Ri!" Riolu said, turning to his trainer, his fists and eyes glowing a light yellow.
"Aura, right, alright lead the way." Ash said, wiping sleep from his eyes.
Riolu lead the way out of the city to the north, heading across the several bridges, eventually reaching a cave opening across the river.
"We really are going in there, aren't we." Ash said.
Riolu turned with a nod, his eyes still glowing yellow.
"Alright, let's go." Ash said, jumping into the stream to cross, Riolu quickly following suit.
As Ash and Riolu swam, both their eyes synced up in the yellow glow.
"Alright, so what's so important that you brought me here." Ash rhetorically asked as he and Riolu made their way through the cave, hearing what sounded like an intense battle going on.
"Is this what you brought me here for?" Ash whispered.
"Ri." Riolu said with a serious nod as the two looked over some boulders to see Dewott training with other wild Pokemon, and a large blue quadrupedal Pokemon with yellow horns overlooking.
"Balion!" The large Pokemon said, causing most others to scatter as he looked at Ash and Riolu.
"Sorry, we didn't mean to interrupt, we were just watching." Ash said.
"Dew!" Dewott said in shock seeing them here.
"Co. Balion!" The large Pokemon roared, causing Riolu to rush in front of them before turning to look at Ash.
"Me too, alright." Ash said, joining Riolu, Dewott, and two other Pokemon.
"Co!" The large Pokemon said, all four Pokemon thrusting their right fist forward, again waiting for Ash.
"Alright, I'm taking lessons in a cave, at night, from a Pokemon." Ash said, taking a stance before thrusting his fist forward.
"Balion!" The Pokemon said, all four Pokemon thrusting their left fist forward while bringing their right back.
"Okay." Ash said, getting the idea.
"Co!"
All five thrust their right hand forward as Ash noticed a small spark.
"Alright then." Ash said getting into it now.
"Balion!"
This went on for a while, by the end, sparks forming evenly and fully around Ash's hands.
"Cobalion!" The Pokemon roared, as Dewott and Riolu turned to the two other wild Pokemon.
"What about me?" Ash asked, as the large Pokemon took a stance. "I'm regretting asking."
"Balion!" The Pokemon yelled.
"Ah!" Ash said punching his fist forward, the electricity sparking around. "You, you're teaching me to use this, aren't you?"
The Pokemon nodded.
"Alright, let's do this!" Ash said, pumping his fists excitedly.
"Co!" The Pokemon commanded.
Ash's fist shot forward, the sparks dissipating in an orb around it.
"Balion!"
Riolu punched his opponent with incredible speed and a hard fist, knocking them back.
"Cobalion!"
Dewott spun around, striking his opponent with his tail, sending them slamming into a wall.
"Alright Dewott, only two left. Now it's our turn!" Ash said confidently.
"Dew!" Dewott said, grabbing one of his scalchops, taunting Riolu.
"Riolu use that new Bullet Punch!"
Riolu raced forward, striking Dewott's scalchop, striking over and over again as Dewott blocked and deflected.
"Balion!" The Pokemon commanded and instantly, Dewott switched to a more offensive strategy, slicing at Riolu as the fighting type leapt back and out of the way of the attacks coming at him.
"Co!"
On command Riolu and Dewott once again switched who was attacking and who was defending.
"Sir, Pokemon, I'm guessing Cobalion, this is great training but I've seen these two in separate battles, if you really called them here to get stronger, you need to let them fight." Ash said as polite as he could.
"Co. Balion!" The Pokemon called out.
Riolu leapt at Dewott with a Blaze Kick as Dewott dodged before launching a double Razor Shell at Riolu, knocking the fighting type onto his back.
"Ri!" Riolu exclaimed, slamming his hands on the ground, letting loose a Rock Slide down on Dewott as he countered by striking each one away, taking some damage in the process.
"Olu!" Riolu shouted, rushing forward his palm flat out, striking Dewott's outstretched scalchop, sending both flying back from the impact.
"Balion!" The large Pokemon called out, ending the fight.
"So is that it? We trained in a cave with a strange Pokemon and Dewott and call it a night?" Ash asked.
"Ri." Riolu said with a nod.
"Dew!" Dewott said, throwing one of his scalchops against a wall.
"Hey I get it, you've had a bad hand dealt. You weren't saved, then almost did something bad, and now you lost, but that doesn't mean you can't change." Ash said.
"Dew!" Dewott scoffed.
"Look you don't have to, but if you'd like I'd be honored to have a water type as strong as you join us." Ash offered, holding out a Pokeball.
"Dew." Dewott said with an angry huff.
"Ri. Riolu." Riolu urged.
"Dew." Dewott said in thought, before turning his back, tapping the Pokeball with his tail and going inside willingly.
"Welcome to the family Dewott, you have one now." Ash said. "And thank you Cobalion for the training."
Ash and Riolu turned only to see the large Pokemon already gone.
"I guess he had somewhere else to be." Ash said. "Come on Riolu, let's head back."
