Sam Pov
I watched from the tree line has Paul led Bella back into the house, I could still sense Jared's thoughts, so he was still phased in and led on the forest floor. I ignored him and began to run our patrol routes, taking in every other wolves' scent. On a whim I decided to run to Forks and check out the Swan house, I needed to be sure that the Cullen's were gone and had not returned.
The head leech didn't even have the curiosity of calling Billy and letting him know that they were leaving the area, had it not been for Bella. Forks could have been left wide open without any protection. Has I got closer to the house, I picked up the scent of the two of the Cullen leeches. I almost gagged at the high concentration of their smell, bleach, vomit and horse shit. They had been scenting this whole area, even the trees smelt of them.
I phased back when I reached the edge of the forest, at the back of the Swan house. I jogged across the yard and tested the back door making sure it was still locked, there wasn't much crime in Forks but with small towns also came the knowledge when the chief was out of town. It only took one idiot to come up with the idea that the house would be empty and prime picking for breaking in.
I walked around to the front door and reached up to the eave where the spare key was, I grinned to myself. Chief of police and he leaves a key in the most obvious place, I will get Bella to have a word with him. Surely it would be better to leave the key at the Black's or the Ateara's.
I opened the door and was hit with the smell of leech; they must have come in here and touched everything. The place reeked of them; I crunched my nose when I walked into the kitchen. The bin had been sat there with rotten food in, holding my breath I picked up the bin and carried it out the front door and left it on the steps. I checked the back door again and the window, before walking out of the kitchen and going upstairs.
I opened the Chiefs bedroom door, took a quick look around and made sure the window was shut before shutting his door again. I didn't feel comfortable just walking into his room, I then walked into the bathroom and checked the window in there. I took a deep breath, relieved that I could smell Bella's scent the strongest in here.
I then walked down to Bella's bedroom door, almost immediately I was hit with the leech scent again. I tried to mentally prepare myself, knowing that his scent was going to be strongest in my mates' room. I could feel my wolf wanting to come to the surface and put his own scent in the room, I opened the door and closed my eyes. I could feel my chest growling has the potent scent hit me, if I didn't know any better, I would have thought he was still in the room.
I opened my eyes, feeling the change in them has my wolf came closer to the surface, almost whispering at me to burn everything in here. Bella's room was almost bare, she had a bedside table with a small lamp on, a digital alarm clock and a small pile of books. On the other side if her room was a computer and above that was a cork notice board. I smiled when it was covered in photos of Bella, Quil Junior and Jake when they were little along with photos of the beach and other places on the Reservation.
I walked into the room, and checked her window, noticing straight away that the lock was broke, so that was how the leech was getting into her bedroom. Everything need to be cleaned and aired before Bella came back here, and my scent needed to put in here. Tomorrow was Saturday, I wonder if I could get Emily to come up and clean the whole house in the morning. We had no work on, so me and Paul could also help. I would get a new lock for the window, so that Bella was as safe as possible when she came back here. The lock wouldn't stop one of us, or a leech but it would slow them down. I nodded to myself and planned to ask Emily. I also needed to stop at the Ateara's and see about having a bonfire tomorrow, she could then meet Emily and Kim and they would encourage her to sleep at the house.
I left the house and double checked the front door was locked, emptied the trash in the outside bin, before walking around the back of the house and into the forest. I stripped off my shorts and tied them around my ankle before allowing my wolf forward and phasing, I ran a quick patrol around the out skirts of Forks before heading back to La Push.
I stopped in the clearing near the treaty line when I came across Jared now in human form just led on the forest floor, I walked over to him and growled. I was still pissed at him for taking Bella out before I could, my wolf wanted to take another chunk out of him. I phased back and pulled on my shorts before crouching down in front of him.
Jared opened his eyes and looked up at me quickly before averting his eyes back to the ground.
"You need to get back to the house." I told him, before standing back up and taking a step away from him.
I watched has he attempted to stand up before collapsing back down again, laying himself back on the forest floor. "I will meet you there." He whispered.
I shook my head, and walked over to him, I hooked my arm his arms and stood him back up. "Come on brother, I'm not leaving you out here alone." I told him, before lifting him up and throwing him across my shoulder.
"I'm sorry Sam." Jared whispered again.
"I know" I nodded at him, before walking back towards the Reservation and the house.
The house soon came into view, and I stomped up the steps to the porch, the front door swung open to a worried looking Embry.
"What happened to him?" he asked, before taking a deep breath and looking deeper into the forest.
"Jared forgot his place in the pack, he needs to heal." I growled, ignoring Emily's gasp when she walked out of the kitchen. I carried on walking through the house until I got to the pack bedroom, I placed Jared on the nearest bed and then bent over to look at his leg.
My wolf had done a number on him, that was going to take a while to heal, I needed to be with Kim tonight has she was questioning her place in the pack. I had taken a wolf out of patrol for at least the next two days. Paul needed to spend some time with Emily, I know that Jake has a big job coming into the garage today so he would be working late. Jared can stay at the Blacks tonight and Embry can run the patrol.
"My leg is fucked." Jared moaned has he tried to bend it.
"Yep, I would rest up for now, can I trust you to stay at the Blacks tonight?"
"Don't think I'm going to be able to phase for a couple of days, you wolf bit through to the bone, yeah, you can trust me."
"Don't do it again Jared, I know Bella is different from the other two girls, but she is still human and my mate." I growled at him, before getting up and walking out the room, shutting the door behind me.
I walked passed Embry and Emily without saying a word and walked into the forest, I stripped and phased and began to head towards the Blacks. I had a few phone calls to make and Paul needed to get back to work.
I phased back and got dressed at the back of Billy's house before walking towards the house and letting myself in. I closed the door and walked out of the kitchen to see Bella led out on the sofa with a blanket over her and Paul sat with her feet in his lap.
"Is she ok?" I asked, stepping closer and moving some hair off her forehead.
"Yes, she was worried you wouldn't be back." Paul whispered.
"She wasn't scared?"
"No Sam, she accepts us in either form." He answered me.
I nodded, before standing up straight and heading back into the kitchen and pulling my phone out of my pocket. I looked over has Paul walked in a few seconds later.
"I need you to go back to the cabin and finish off, get it all signed off and give the key to the Mayor. Jared is off patrol for a few days, his leg is fucked." I said, has I pulled out a chair at the table and sat down.
"Shit, Sam. How bad?"
"My wolf was pissed, I wanted to take Bella out first, he stepped way out of line."
Paul just nodded at me and kept silent for a few seconds. "So, what is the plan for tonight, I need to be with Emily tonight?" he asked.
"Kim needs me tonight, Jake is working late, Embry will have to run patrol and I'm letting Jared stay with Bella." I explained.
"Really, and you are fine leaving Jared here?"
"No other choice, my wolf doesn't want Jake or Embry to spend the night alone with Bella. I don't understand why, just the thought makes him crazy and want to claim her and mark her." I shrugged, I had no idea what my wolf's problem was, they wouldn't do anything, and I trusted them.
"You just said it yourself Sam, she is an unmarked mate and they are unmated." Paul said, grinning.
"Well she is a long way off to being ready to be claimed and mated, I just hope she and my wolf allows Jake and Embry to bond with her."
"It will happen, give it time. She is ours now, and we can wait until she is ready."
I nodded at him, hoping he was right because this could mess with our bonds. "How long has she been asleep?" I asked, changing the subject.
"About twenty minutes." He said, before looking briefly into the living room.
"Don't make plans tomorrow morning, I went to the Swan's to check on the house and it reeks of leech. If you, Emily and I go up tomorrow morning and air the house out and clean Bella's room before Charlie comes back Bella won't have to be near it. Billy can keep Bella occupied, and then we are having a bonfire in the evening and Bella will be staying at the house tomorrow night."
"Sure, does she know that she is staying?" Paul grinned.
"Nope, but Old Quil said that she needs to stay and build a bond with us."
"She will be pissed." Paul chuckled.
"Probably, I was thinking that if the pack goes down to the beach early, then I can show Bella around the house when it's empty."
"Sure, so we clean the Swan's in the morning, then no doubt Emily will want to clean our house in the afternoon. I will help her with that, you have a council meeting tomorrow afternoon."
I nodded, and then thought about who I could leave here with Bella, or I could take her to the Ateara's. "Bella can spend some time with her cousin tomorrow afternoon, then I can pick her up."
"Yep, that will work, well I'm off, I will see you later." Paul nodded before walking out the back door and into the forest.
I spent the next hour calling Old Quil and Billy with my plans for the bonfire and then I had a few possible clients to call back. I hung up on my last call when I heard Bella wake up and walk into the kitchen.
"Hey Sam." Bella said, before yawning and stretching.
I smiled up at her and watched has she got herself a glass and filled it with water, before turning around and leaning against the sink. "Are you ok, Bella?"
"Yes, Paul explained about this afternoon and why you attacked Jared, was that really necessary?"
I growled and stood up and walked closer to her and took a deep breath. "Yes, I'm the Alpha and Jared over stepped his place and rank. Bella we are human, but you have to remember that we are also wolves and just like wild wolf packs we all have ranks and orders."
Bella nodded and I could see her shoulders relax some, "it just seemed so brutal and violent." She said after a while.
"I didn't want you to see me like that, I don't want you to fear my wolf." I almost pleaded with her.
"Oh Sam, I'm not scared of your wolf. I suppose that I needed a reality check, you are not just these fluffy over sized wolves" Bella chuckled, and I couldn't stop pulling her in for a hug.
We stood like that for while just hugging in silence, I was relieved that she wasn't scared. Bella was different to the other girls, I felt for my brothers and their mates not accepting them in wolf form. Maybe in the future Bella could help them see that we are not scary.
We pulled apart when Billy's truck pulled up and he climbed out, Bella looked at the clock and stepped back.
"Do you want to stay for dinner?"
Bella cooked us a pasta and meat dish, and the three of us sat around Billy's small kitchen table and ate in almost peace. The food was delicious, and I laughed when there was a tug of war between Billy and I for the last portion on the serving plate. This caused Bella to laugh and shake her head before she took the plate from us and split the last of the food between the plates.
I helped Billy with the dishes, has Bella wiped down the table and tidied up around us, Billy has told her a few times to go sit in the lounge and relax but she insisted on staying in the same room has us. While I was drying the dishes, an idea came to me to let Bella see my wolf, I was still pissed at Jared for taking away my chance for my wolf to connect with her.
"Bella, go put on some warm clothes, I think we should go out and see the cliffs." I told her, turning around when she went to sit on one of the chairs at the table.
"Ok" Bella replied sounding confused.
"Why are taking Bella to the cliffs?" Billy asked, turning to look at me.
"It's time for my wolf to meet her, and I doubt she has ever seen the sunset in La Push." I explained to him.
Bella then walked in wearing her coat and shoes, I didn't think that was warm enough clothing, but I wasn't going to say anything that might make her change her mind. I put the towel down and grabbed Bella's hand and led her out through the kitchen door to the side of the house.
"Are we walking Sam?" She asked, looking into the forest.
"You're not, but I am. Wait here, I'm going to phase into my wolf." I told her, before jogging off into the forest. Just in the tree line, I stripped off my shorts, tied them to my ankle before I let my wolf out. I shook out the fur and stretched has I slowly stepped out of the forest. I heard Bella gasp, I could hear Jake and Embry phased and watching Bella through my eyes but chose to ignore their thoughts.
"Wow Sam, you are beautiful" I heard Bella whisper, has I got closer to her. I led down and watched has she stepped closer with her hand held out. I led still and silent has she ran her hand through my fur. "It's so soft." I heard her whisper again. I listened to her heartbeat to make sure she was scared or nervous, and it was steady just like when I am in human form.
After a few minutes I used my muzzle to move her slightly towards my back, hoping she would understand that I wanted her to climb on.
"Do you want me to ride you?" she asked, and then climbed on once I had nodded.
Once I thought she was secure and holding on tightly, I slowly stood up and walked us back into the forest. I heard her gasp has I picked up my speed, I didn't go too fast, I was scared that she would lose her balance and fall off. Knowing that my mate trusted me and felt safe enough to ride on my back I couldn't stop the howl leaving me.
Your wolf is loving this, I wish I could see Bella's face. Embry thought, has he watched through my eyes and listened to my thoughts.
I ignored him, I wanted this to be just us, I slowed my pace has the forest thinned out and the cliff came into view. I couldn't decide to either phase back or stay in my wolf form. I slowly walked to the top of the cliff and stopped so I was facing where the sun would go down in the net few minutes. I could hear Embry's thoughts the loudest, and he was beginning to annoy me.
Mind your own business and concentrate on patrolling. I ordered him, I watched through his eyes has he shook his head and started to concentrate on our scents.
I lowered myself down and felt Bella slide off, I thought about getting up so I could go into the forest and phase back when Bella suddenly wrapped her arms around my neck and pushed her face into my fur.
"Oh Sam, I know what you can do, and I know that I should be cautious, but that was amazing. Please say we can do go for a walk through the forest again." Bella said, giving my neck one last squeeze before letting go and sitting down on the gravel.
I stood up and whined when she looked at me with a panicked look on her face, I looked towards the forest and then back at her. Trying to tell her that I'm just going to go into the forest and phase back.
"Don't leave me." Bella said, stepping closer to me.
I used my muzzle to make her sit back down and took a step back, hoping that me phasing back in front of her wouldn't scare her. I turned around enough so that my dick would be covered and pulled the wolf back into me.
I chuckled has I heard Bella cough, move her head down and go bright red. I quickly pulled my shorts on and tapped her on the shoulder. "I did try to tell you that I wanted to go back into the forest to phase."
"Sorry, I don't understand wolf." She laughed, still blushing.
I sat down next to her and wrapped my arm around her shoulders and pulled her closer to me. The wind was picking up a bit, and I didn't want her to get cold. We both watched has the sun started to set behind the sea. I felt her relax further into me, the lower the sun go.
"This is amazing Sam, so peaceful and beautiful." Bella whispered, like she was afraid to make noise.
"Were you really ok riding my wolf?" I asked her, I wanted to hear her thought.
"Yes, I've got to say riding on the back of a wolf in the forest give it a whole new perspective." Bella said, causing my wolf to growl.
"Are you still upset about Jared taking me out first?" she asked, turning a little to look up at me.
"Yes, it was something that I wanted to do. Bella you are different, Paul and Jared's mates are scared of their wolves. They have only seen them briefly, obviously Emily saw what Paul did to Leah and Kim has this horrendous fear of dogs or any animals. For Jared and me you are the first person to not be scared and for us to be able to carry you like that." I explained to her, while grinning. She was amazing, no fear or anything.
"Oh, why do you think that is?" she asked, suddenly looking nervous and beginning to twiddle her fingers.
I pulled her hands towards me and gripped both of them lightly, causing her to look up at me. "Don't be so nervous, but I think the reason you are not scared is because even in our wolf for you still see us has human."
"But you are still human, turning into a wolf is like an extra part of you." She said while shrugging her shoulders.
I just nodded at her and pulled her on to my lap, I needed and wanted her closer. We both watched silently has the sky got darker, for the first time since I phased, I finally felt at peace. Everything up until this point becoming a wolf had been so hard, the Elders told me that my time will come when I will be at my happiest. I felt like I had been waiting so long, it just wasn't going to happen. I felt the temperature drop and it usually does at this time of night, and Bella moved so she was almost sat on my lap. It was time to take her back to Billy's.
"Bella" I whispered and waited for her to turn around to look at me. "We need to go back, before it gets too cold."
She nodded and moved away from me and had a another look out towards the sea. "Can we come back?"
"Always, maybe next time we can bring a blanket so we can stay longer." I suggested. I smiled, when she smiled and her whole face lite up. "I'm just going to go to the edge of the forest and phase, ok?"
At her nod, I got up and jogged into the forest, staying where I would be able to see her. I watched, has Bella stood up and looked up to the sky before pulling her arms around her. I quickly stripped out of my shorts and tied them before phasing and coming back out so she could see me. I made sure that I made some noise and watched has she relaxed and smiled towards me.
I laid down and waited has she made her way towards me; I had not expected her to rub the gap between my eyes and closed my eyes at the feeling. My wolf wanted to lay down show her his belly and purr, so she would continue. I could hear Jake and now Paul laughing.
Just you wait until she asks to ride on your wolves and see how they react. I thought at them both, knowing that when that happens, I will also be phased in.
I wouldn't unman my wolf. Paul thought still laughing.
I ignored them, and beckoned Bella to climb on, she gave me a final rub before walking around my side, climbing up and getting comfortable on my back. I turned around and walked back into the forest, walking fast to get her back.
Halfway there I felt Bella jump as she started to slide off and catch herself, I stopped and made sure that she was back and holding on before moving again. The same thing happened again, and I noticed that her heartbeat was slowing down indicating that she was falling asleep.
I sent out a thought to both Paul and Jake, where are you both?
I'm up by the boundary line, Jake thought.
I'm not far from you, do you need me to come and help, Paul offered.
Yes, I think she has fallen asleep or fighting to stay awake.
I stopped where I was and listened out for Paul, glad that he was close enough. The last thing I wanted was for Bella to fall off and seriously hurt herself. I could hear and smell Paul has he got closer, and then turned around to face him has he stepped out from behind a tree after phasing back.
"I can't believe she is that comfortable with your wolf to fall asleep on you." Paul said, has he softly pulled Bella from my back and held her close to his chest. I phased back and got dressed before stepping closer to them.
"She isn't afraid or anything, Christ Paul, I never knew my wolf to feel so at peace with her so close."
"I'm jealous, I will wait my time, but I am telling you know she will be riding on my wolf." He smiled, before handing her back to me. This movement cause Bella to wake up and jump and her heart rate to increase.
"What's going on, are we back?"
"No, you fell asleep." I told her pulling her closer to my chest.
"You know what, when I have to go back to Forks you are coming with me. I'm just going to tell my dad that I got a new pet, honestly Sam your fur is so soft, warm and comfy." Bella mumbled has she closed her eyes. Causing Paul and I to both laugh, "No I really am, especially when it gets really cold."
I just smiled down at her, I don't think I will ever sleep beside her when I'm in my wolf form, I would be too scared to accidently roll on her or catch her with my claw, but I know I'm counting down the days until I can sleep next to her almost every night in my human form.
"She has gone back to sleep." Paul whispered has we started to walk through the forest.
"Paul, phase back and watch my back for me." I told him.
I carried on walking has he phased back and walked slowly behind us, has we closer to the Black's I looked behind me and nodded to Paul in the opposite direction, telling him to get back to patrol.
I walked around the front of Billy's house to see Jared leaning against Billy's truck, putting most of his weight on his uninjured leg.
"Billy has gone to the Clearwater's; the house is unlocked." He whispered to me, has I walked passed him. I watched has he limped passed me and opened the door, stepping in and leaving me plenty of room to get in and walk passed him.
I carried Bella in and walked down to Jake's old room, glad that the door was open.
"Bella" I whispered, has I led her down on the bed. "You need to get ready for bed."
I watched has she slowly opened her eyes and yawned, nodding and tried to sit up. I reached out and grabbed her arm has she wobbled to get her balance.
"Ok" She quietly replied before getting off the bed and grabbing what I presume was her night clothes and her washbag. I left her to it and walked out of the hallway to see Jared sat on the sofa with his head leant back and his eyes closed.
"Will you be ok with her tonight, when she has a nightmare, I don't want you growling at her if she kicks your fucked-up leg?" I asked him.
"Yes, Sam it will be fine, it's almost healed. Worse case I will just make sure to move it, but she hasn't had a nightmare for the last two nights. Maybe they have gone away now that she is bonding to us and happier with us."
"We will see, I will be back in the morning, I know that Kim needs me, but Jared if it gets really bad then I will come back." I told him and watched has he opened his eyes and nodded at me.
We both looked over when Bella walked into the lounge and took a seat next to Jared, sitting closer to him for his warmth. I watched has he pulled her closer and slung his arm over her shoulder. "Bella, I need to patrol tonight, Jared is going to hang around here."
She nodded and looked down at her hands, and I could sense that she wasn't too happy. I walked around the sofa and kneeled down so my face was level with hers. "what is wrong?" I asked her.
"Nothing, I don't need a baby sitter Sam." She grumbled.
"I know that, but I don't want you alone to your own thoughts in the mornings when Billy has to go to work or has to be somewhere."
"Ok" she whispered, so I stood back up and leant over kissing the top of head before walking towards the front door.
Jared Pov
"I'm going to bed" Bella said before yawning loudly.
"I'm going to crash her, call out if you need me and I will hear you." I told her, has she got up and went into the bedroom, shutting the door behind her.
I put my head back on the back of the sofa and closed my eyes, my leg was throbbing, but I could feel the bone and muscle healing. I reckon I should all be healed up by tomorrow, I should have known that Sam would lose his shit for me taking Bella out on my wolf. I couldn't help it, her reactions and attitude to us phasing is so different than the other two.
I relaxed back and thought about my mate, Kim needed Sam tonight. With him finding his mate, I think she just need the reassurance that he was still there for her and still her Alpha. I know that Sam almost has to battle with himself to leave Bella when she is at her most vulnerable and having nightmares, but he also knew that he has to maintain his bonds with the other two girls. I wouldn't be surprised if in a few days Emily would also need Sam, she is a lot less demanding and would wait until she was desperate to say anything.
I remember when Paul first met Emily and realised that she was his mate, being new to phasing and accepting our wolves none of us including Emily knew how any of us would cope when the time came for Sam and me to bond with her.
Like it was an instinct when our wolves were ready, there was no jealously, and Paul didn't feel like his bond with Emily was going to be affected. Once Sam and I had both slept with Emily, we realised that our bond to her was stronger and our bonds between each of us stronger. I wondered what would happen when Bella was ready, if our bond was to get even stronger, we would all be almost just one person.
The girls struggled more than we did, and that resulted in both me and Paul having to disappear for a while when it was time for Sam to sleep with them. Emily gave in after just two days and allowed Sam into her bed, allowing me to join her just a day later. Kim was more stubborn, and it took nearly four days for her to give into Sam and let him be with her, I understood, she was a virgin when I mated and marked her and probably didn't want to think about being like that with another man. Sam helped her and took his time, letting her almost guide him for most of it, something I was truly grateful for.
Bella Pov
I woke up screaming again, this nightmare was different. I could see 'them' and the wolves they were all running away from, I was calling out to them to stop and to wait for me when I could hear chanting 'you are not worth it, we don't want you.' Over and over again getting louder and louder.
I sat up in bed, when the door opened and Jared was stood in the doorway, I burst into tears and rolled over so my back was to him. Unable to stop the words coming out of my mouth, "why does nobody want or care about me." I felt my body shaking with the sobs.
I felt the bed dip and suddenly all I felt was warmth has Jared wrapped his arms around me and pulled me into his chest.
"Bella, Princess we want you, we care about you, you are so important to us." I heard him whispered, placing his lips near my ear. It was like he knew what my dream was about has I fell back to sleep listening to him whisper the same words over and over again in my ear.
