This is Part III of the New Years Special. Last time, Blaze and her team were confronted by Horror-Show and an army of Brainiac drones. The confrontation didn't seem to be going well, but then a trio of familiar faces. Spyro, Cynder, and Superman, apparently working together or at least under some kind of agreement to not kill each other until Brainiac was dealt with, came to their rescue, with Superman scaring Horror-Show away evidently. With five now being eight, the team made their way towards Brainac's control center. So what's coming next? Read on to discover...
(Our scene resumes in Brainiac's control room, where Horror-Show is re-entering the room after his encounter with Blaze and company, much to the chagrin of Brainiac, Doctor Fate, and Enchantress)
Enchantress: You had one job, Horror-Show. One job! And you couldn't even do that right!
Horror-Show: The two older dragons were a lot stronger than I anticipated.
Doctor Fate: It seems you were more scared of Superman.
Horror-Show: (Lying) I was not!
Brainiac: The Kryptonians have proven a bigger thorn in my side than I anticipated.
Enchantress: Perhaps collecting them isn't worth it.
Brainiac: My knowledge of Krypton must be complete. And without Kal-El and Kara Zor-El, it is not.
Enchantress: A little OCD of you, but whatever. The agreement we made was to aid you in exchange for aiding us, so I'll let it go.
Brainiac: An agreement I intend to complete.
Doctor Fate: And how do you plan to do that when they're all together?
Brainiac: The fact that they are coming right to us. Despite the ghoul's failure to stop them.
Enchantress: Looks like you'll have a chance to make up for your failures, Horror-Show!
Horror-Show: The fleshed ones will not escape me this time.
Doctor Fate: They had better not, or else the Master will have your head.
(As the four villains plot and scheme, the scene shifts back to our team of eight, progressing through the corridors of Brainiac's ship. Superman appears to be scanning the walls with his x-ray vision, seemingly looking for something)
Superman: I could have sworn the control center was down this way.
Cynder: I told you it was the other corridor.
Superman: And I'm telling you it's this one! It must be longer than I remembered.
Cynder: It's not.
Superman: I didn't ask for a back seat navigator!
Spyro: (Terse and to the point) Clark. Zip it.
(Begrudgingly Superman shuts up and keeps scanning for the control center.)
Spyro: (Under his breath) Asshole.
Blaze: (Looking to Spyro and Cynder) Okay, I've got to know, how did you two come to an alliance with Superman of all people? Considering how he treated you last time we were here, I had a feeling you'd have left him to be vivisected.
Cynder: It was tempting, believe me.
Spyro: But, in truth, if it weren't for Clark, we'd be the ones being vivisected.
Blaze: Wait a second, Superman actually saved you two?
Cynder: He claims it was on accident. But bursting through the wall right into that drone and then into the control panel that operated our restraints? Color me suspicious.
Spyro: Well, regardless, he did get us out of that mess. So we did kind of owe him one.
Cynder: One that was thankfully paid when an army of Kryptonite equipped drones came through and nearly had Clark on the ropes.
Superman: Brainiac has Kryptonite?
Spyro: I can't say how much, Kara, since I don't know, but we know he's at least got some.
Blaze: And now that Darkblood is involved, he's probably got Dark Gems too.
Cynder: The madness that monster masquerading as my son has gotten up to...
Spyro: I never would have guessed we'd be working with Superman to save him.
Cynder: Being honest, neither did I. But, saving the world makes strange bedfellows.
Blaze: Don't need to tell me twice, we've been working with the rest of the Regime on the ground. If anything can get Wonder Woman and I to cooperate, you know that's messed up.
Superman: (Having heard that) You? And Diana? Working together? Then why are you carrying her sword and shield? I honestly presumed she was dead.
Blaze: Surprisingly, she isn't. At least not yet. She's pissed me off enough to get close, but we're not to ending her yet.
Superman: Going back for the bracelets first I assume.
Spyro: We could do without the sarcasm, Superman.
Blaze: Though, I've got to say, all of this has made me realize. Diana was really the force behind the Regime. As much as I hate to say it, Superman may have just been a public face.
Cynder: No offense, Blaze, but that isn't exactly news.
Blaze: (At first surprised, but then not really) If anybody could figure that out, I should've guessed it would be you two.
Spyro: Hence why she's got to be the first one to go once we inevitable start fighting the Regime again.
Batman: For once, we're on the same page.
Superman: (Putting up a hand to stop them) I've got something ahead.
Blaze: Is it the control room?
Superman: No. If I had to guess, it's something you're going to want to see though.
(With that, Superman rips open a disguised door, leading everybody in as our tale ends for today)
This concludes Part III of the New Years Special. For the Finale, head on over to Ashes of Midnight. So, that's the brief story of how Superman, Spyro, and Cynder ended up working together. But next time, it looks like Superman's found something. It may not be the control room they're looking for, but I'm willing to bet you're going to be able to figure out what it is quite quickly. But for the answers, tune in next time! Same time... same channel!
