Welcome back to The Injustice Wars. Last time, Blitz, Twirl, Catwoman, Donatello, Green Arrow, Black Canary, and Cyborg arrived topside in Gotham City and went over their plan to infiltrate the Batcave and take back Brother Eye. Meanwhile, Brother Eye, Black Manta, and the Ex Machina Twins entered the Batcave to commence their mission from Darkblood. Black Manta, acting as the Legion's spy on the inside, placed a logging device on Brother Eye's system to flag everything he accesses. But Brother Eye has noticed him, though isn't saying anything, and the Ex Machina Twins are starting to suspect him. But with allies on the way, will he get out in time? Read on to discover...
(Our scene kicks off down a set of abandoned rails, where Blitz, Twirl, and company are making their way to the Batcave.)
Donatello: Got to give this to Batman, he certainly knows how to use abandoned infrastructure to his advantage.
Cyborg: It's predictable is what it is.
Twirl: Last I checked, nobody asked you.
Blitz: How much farther to the Batcave, Selina?
Catwoman: (As the group arrives at a wall) We're here. Just got to remember which bricks open the thing.
Blitz: Allow me.
(With that, Blitz places her palms against the wall and allows a bit of Electric current to flow through them, using her control over it to subtly illuminate the ends of the built in terminals. Seeing Blitz is already on one of the switches, Catwoman follows the current to the other one)
Green Arrow: Neat trick.
Blitz: Perks of being at my skill level.
(Wasting no further time, Blitz and Catwoman press the switches and open the wall to the Batcave.)
Twirl: Onward ho, then?
Blitz: Indeed.
(With that, everybody makes their way into the Batcave, sneaking around behind different pieces from the setup, trying not to get spotted as Black Manta and the Ex Machina Twins make their way across the scene on patrol.)
Cyborg: (Observing the Ex Machina Twins) No way, those two are active?
Black Canary: You know who those are?
Cyborg: Yeah, the results of a Regime side project. We never could get them to work. Guess I shouldn't have been willing to bet someone like Dragnarok couldn't.
Twirl: That thing is not Dragnarok. Darkblood is a perversion of him.
Cyborg: So, what's your point?
Blitz: If I didn't think ringing that bell you call a head would garner attention, I'd smack you for that.
Catwoman: Focus, we need to get to Brother Eye without the others spotting us.
Twirl: Leave that to me.
(Using the very air in the room, Twirl signals to Black Manta, who picks up on the change instantly, using fluctuations in the air flow into his helmet to discern a message in morse code and translating it. It spells out: "Keep the robots busy. We need to get to Brother Eye." Receiving the message, Black Manta briefly looks back and sees the team in the room, trying to keep hidden, and subtly acknowledges the instruction. He then turns back in the direction of the Ex Machina Twins and whistles)
Black Manta: Heads up, got bogeys coming in from the north. Deus, Diabolus, check it out.
Deus and Diabolus Ex Machina: (Suspiciously) Acknowledged.
(As the two robots leave the room to check out Manta's fake bogeys, Black Manta himself patrols in the opposite direction, subtly cueing Twirl that they can act now)
Twirl: Let's go.
Cyborg: About time.
(But before Black Manta can get past them, Cyborg jumps up and grabs him, much to his own surprise)
Black Manta: What the...? Since when are you here?!
(Seeing Black Manta is confused, Blitz uses the a similar tactic to Twirl earlier to give Manta a message in morse code that only he can detect. It spells out: "He's with us. Play along." Getting the message, Manta pretends to put up a fight, only for Cyborg to knock him out for real to get Brother Eye's attention)
Brother Eye: Intruders detected. (Sending a message to the Ex Machina Twins) Black Manta's detection was a diversion, return to this location immediately!
Blitz: Quickly, start hacking Brother Eye before the other two get back!
(Wasting no time, Blitz, Donatello, and Cyborg get to work on hacking into Brother Eye's systems while Catwoman, Twirl, Black Canary, and Green Arrow take up security posts, but right away, Brother Eye notices Cyborg)
Brother Eye: Victor Stone. You are the pinnacle of human evolution, yet your humanity holds you back. I can unlock your true potential.
Catwoman: Well somebody's got a secret admirer.
Cyborg: One problem with your little offer. I'm more a of a team player. And humanity is my team.
Brother Eye: I believe we have an error in communication. This is not an offer.
(With that, Brother Eye infuses Cyborg with some of the Dark Aether used to bring it to it's current state. And the resultant techno-sorcery ends up creating a near duplicate of Cyborg, except without any of Victor Stone's humanity.)
Grid: Grid, online. I am your vast intellect, Brother Eye's full data set, and Lord Darkblood's vast power, liberated from your weaknesses of flesh and emotion.
Green Arrow: Now that's just creepy!
Brother Eye: Grid, activate security protocols.
Grid: Acknowledged.
(With that, Grid starts fighting Green Arrow, Black Canary, Catwoman, and Twirl, and has made short work of them by the time Cyborg, Blitz, and Donatello have anything to say about getting through to Brother Eye's mainframe.)
Grid: And now for you.
Donatello: (Seeing Grid coming) One of us is going to have to fight this thing.
Blitz: I vote Cyborg, honestly.
Cyborg: For once we're on the same page. (Turns from Brother Eye's console to face Grid) So, Grid, is this any less weird for you than it is for me?
Grid: For years I dwelled as a subroutine within your program. An error Silas Stone failed to correct. I never fathomed an existence separate from you. And now, thanks to Lord Darkblood's power, I will not allow myself to go back.
(With that, Grid and Cyborg start duking it out just as the Ex Machina Twins return)
Brother Eye: The others could wake at any moment, focus on them.
(Not questioning it for a second, the Ex Machina Twins turn their attention towards the previously defeated group members. And as this goes on, Blitz gets tired of trying to beat Brother Eye's subroutines)
Donatello: He's countering every move before we can make it!
Blitz: Then we'll treat this like the Gordian Knot!
(With that, Blitz just summons her Electric element and slams her paws into the console, sending a massive shock through Brother Eye's system. The rogue AI knows that it's done for and activates a wireless download unbeknownst to everyone, uploading everything into Grid. But ultimately, the shock to the system works as Brother Eye starts to reboot)
Brother Eye: This minor success will not save you...
(And with that, Brother Eye's system reboots, the surge of Elemental Electricity appearing to have booted the Dark Aether out of the system as Cyborg knocks Grid to the ground)
Cyborg: (Seeing Brother Eye is rebooting) That should be the end of you, mirror match.
Grid: (Getting back up) Do not be so sure, Victor Stone. (Gesturing to the Ex Machina Twins) Your focus on Brother Eye and myself has cost you your allies.
Blitz: (Seeing Diabolus Ex Machina about to abduct Twirl) GET AWAY FROM HER!
(With one massive bolt of Electricity, Blitz steers Diabolus Ex Machina away from it's intended target.)
Grid: (Seeing this) Leave the dragon be. What we have will suffice.
(With that, Grid activates a dark portal program mimicking Cyborg's Boom Tube ability, allowing it and the Ex Machina Twins to leave while secretly portalling Black Manta out as well.)
Cyborg: Well that's ominous.
Blitz: (Rushing to Twirl as she regains consciousness) Are you okay, love?
Twirl: Doing better, now that you're here.
Catwoman: Wish all of us could say the same thing.
(At this point, everybody realizes the down side of this situation, Green Arrow and Black Canary have been captured.)
Donatello: Well that's a bummer.
(At this point, Brother Eye finally reboots)
Brother Eye: Brother Eye Online. (Detects Cyborg in the room, setting off alarms) Warning! Victor Stone has infiltrated the Batcave! Deploying countermeasures!
Cyborg: Countermeasures?! Typical Batman!
Catwoman: And that's why I'm here. Defense System Override: Authorization Code LK-4D4.
Brother Eye: System Administrator Selina Kyle recognized. Retinal verification required. (Scans Catwoman's retina) Identity confirmed. Standing down.
Catwoman: Good to have you back, Brother Eye.
Brother Eye: Good to be back, Ms. Kyle.
Catwoman: Fire up geo-sync comms, Brother Eye. Time to let everybody know we're in business.
(And as that program is activated, our scene concludes for today)
And that looks like a good place to wrap up for now. So, Brother Eye is now back on the good guys' side, but not before creating Grid as a figurative and literal backup. Out with one threat, in with another I guess. And now they've got Green Arrow and Black Canary. This is not going to end well. For answers, tune in next time to at least start finding out!
