Chapter three:
Kaoru is sitting awake in bed. He can't stop thinking about what had happened.
Hikaru fell asleep not realizing that his brother didn't follow him into sleep.
Kaoru isn't fully sure how long he has been sitting there awake for just going over the events in his head. He remembers seeing the little girl's look after he had sung to her. He starts to think about what if he did this with anyone else. He feels afraid thinking about showing his hidden talent off to anyone else. He isn't even sure that Nekozawa is just being nice about it because he helped his little sister. He turns as he hears Hikaru groan then shift to slightly sit up.
"Kaoru? What's going on?" Hikaru tiredly mumbles sounding like he is still working on waking up. He shifts a little more up until he can lay his head on his brother's shoulder. "I'm twin. I can sense your troubled feelings on the vibes you're giving off."
Kaoru lets out a breath supposing that he should have known that this would be noticed by Hikaru. He tells the other about what had occurred with Nekozawa. He is grateful that Hikaru sits there listening to him quietly as he talks about it all. "And I don't know but my mind has been swirling with an idea. It's just that it terrifies me and I don't really want to do it. However it is like a part of me wants to."
"And that is?" Hikaru hums in question sounding more awake now.
"I was thinking about what if I did show others. On the other hand I still find it terrifying. I find it hard to truly think about it. It's just… That look on the girls face and Nekozawa talking to me about the whole thing just seemed to have gotten some sort of idea in my head about doing it."
"I see." Hikaru nods softly against his brother's shoulder. "Well I mean we don't have to go big scale yet." He shifts to let his gaze meet with his twin's own gaze that looks to him. "We could start small. Just those that we trust."
Kaoru thinks who that could be before blinking as it comes to him. "You mean our friends who are like family. The Host club." He feels a nod against his shoulder.
"I really do mean them." Hikaru confirms wrapping his arms around his brother. "Look. I can talk to them. You know that they'll be understanding. That way you don't have to force yourself to admit it yet. They'll be great to practice performing on until you feel confident to show others. I know that they will support you throughout it all. And be patient with you. They care about us. You know that."
Kaoru nods slightly glancing away. He finds that his brother's idea doesn't sound so bad. He would have the support of those that he knows cares about him and won't judge him as harshly as others who he isn't as close with will. He also could grow his confidence using them and perhaps one day he could perform for others. He actually finds that idea is nice since he does like singing. If he wasn't so afraid of performing he would want to go after something with that career path. "Okay. You ask them and maybe we can figure out some way to do this."
"Great!" Hikaru sounds super happy to hear this. He pulls his brother backwards to lay down. His arms still wrapped around him in a loving comforting way. "Can you sing me a song? Something that maybe can help us both sleep?"
Kaoru chuckles softly before he sings finding himself getting more and more tired. He soon stops as he starts to feel himself drift off into sleep.
"Goodnight Kaoru." Hikaru mumbles sleepily and Kaoru returns it before the two of them fall into sleep.
Neither aware of their parents who were up late for a project having listened in. The parents quietly high five each other.
"Oh I was waiting for when our dear son would be ready to show his talent. Oh it was so wonderful listening to him sing to his brother. Such a sweet boy that one is. Just a bit too shy for his own good at times." Their mother happily shares in a whisper with a big grin on her face.
"Remember my dear. Let him take the small steps that he needs to take." Their father whispers as he puts his arm around his wife's shoulders. "Come now. Let us get some rest ourselves."
With that the two parents head to bed for the night.
The next day…
Hikaru approaches the others as he had asked to meet with them. "Thank you for meeting me here." He sits down to join them at the meeting table while his brother does his own thing for a bit to allow them to discuss things.
Kaoru is feeling too shy about the whole thing to join in the meeting himself just telling Hikaru that he trusts him to figure out something.
"Is everything alright?" Haruhi can't help asking blinking in concern about what might be going on to warrant a sudden meeting.
"Well. There is a secret that me and Kaoru have been keeping from you." Hikaru admits to them. "Just it was a good reason. Kaoru has a talent that he isn't really comfortable with sharing so easily. He gets shy and self conscious about it. However recently he used it to help calm a little girl."
"The one he brought to me to figure out who her big brother was based on his name." Kyouya confirms getting a nod from Hikaru.
"Well the big brother found him and thanked him in person. Admitting that he had seen him use his hidden talent to help calm her down. He has a bit of a complicate relationship with his sister it seems. Honestly though that isn't as important. Kaoru is thinking about showing his talent with the only problem being how shy and nervous he is about the whole thing. I brought up the idea of maybe doing it with just you all and he said he could try it. I know that it is something that is worth displaying. I just haven't been able to get him confident enough to do it with anyone else except for myself before. So I want to jump onto this opportunity to be able to let him show what he can do."
"I think that is an excellent idea!" Hunny's eyes are shining happy that they are being trusted to help with getting Kaoru to come out of his shell about this.
"I am curious." Kyouya clears his throat to get attention on himself. "What talent are we talking about?"
"He can sing really well." Hikaru admits and sees some understanding on their faces.
"It is really hard to just show others such an ability." Tamaki nods holding his chin thoughtfully yet with an understanding look. "Thinking about going in front of many people to do such a thing can be a scary thought."
"I didn't take Kaoru to have stage freight. He always came off as pretty confident to me at least." Haruhi mentions before shrugging lightly. "Well. It is at least good that he is starting to come out of his shell about it more."
"You know what. I may have an idea." Kyouya slight smirks before sharing what he thinks that they can do.
"Ohh! That's good." Hunny nods his head and everyone else is in pretty good agreement with it.
"Anyway I can help?" Nekozawa pokes his head in through a door making them all jump almost out of their seats.
"So it was your little sister that Kaoru helped." Haruhi mentions quickly piecing the puzzle together. "Otherwise you don't really have much of a reason to be so interested."
"Yes. That is true that dear Kaoru assisted my sister. However he did not really ask for anything in return for me to show my gratitude. It would please me if there was some way I could assist with this. I can stay away though at least helping in the set up would be appreciated by me."
"Hm. I will let you know if there is anything needed from you as we figure out the set up." Kyouya hums to which Nekozawa makes a grateful sound then disappears back into the darkness.
Tamaki claps his hands managing to recover enough to speak again now that the other has left. "Alright! Let us get this thing ready!"
Hikaru thinks that Kaoru is going to love what they have figured out once it is all set up and ready to go. He is so excited to be able to show Kaoru what they have figured out to be able to help him stop being as shy about what he can do.
