A few days had passed since Mark's visit to the District and Hank warned him to stay away from Dani. Dani's school was closed due to a mold problem and until they found a place for the kids to go, the kids had stayed home. Hank didn't mind bringing Dani to the District with him. She would be fully protected by not only dozens of cops but himself and his team. But at the same time he wanted her to be a kid and run around with other kids he had planned on leaving her with a babysitter.
He knew that leaving her would be a huge risk because without him around Mark or Amelia would start sniffing around and make their move. If one or both of them so much as touch Dani there's no saying what he'll do.
One morning after getting ready for work, he made Dani's breakfast, made a small snack for her later and set up lunch for her and the new babysitter he had hired. He did a very long, thorough, firm background checks on all the babysitters he had interviewed and made sure no rock was unturned, all his bases were covered. He knew he could have left her with someone he knew but he didn't want to interfere with their work schedules.
The older man had considered a daycare but didn't trust them one bit. There were far too many incidents that happened at those places. Hank barely wanted to trust a babysitter because he knew some of them could potentially be irresponsible. The young woman he had chosen seemed to have fit the bill. She wasn't involved in drugs, didn't drink or smoke, she didn't have a criminal record, she didn't have so much as a parking ticket. She was a good choice.
Just as he finished Dani came down dressed in a pale yellow shirt, a blue denim skirt, flowered tights and her yellow sneakers. Her dark hair was down and frizzy. Hank had heard her coming and came around.
"Good morning sweetheart" Hank greeted her.
"Good morning daddy" Dani greeted her father.
"Ready for breakfast?"
She nodded eagerly, she ran to the table and climbed onto the chair, on the plate in front of her was a couple pieces of French Toast, eggs, and bacon. She had a glass of orange juice next to the plate. The six-year-old ate a few bites when she looked at him.
"Do I get to go to work with you today daddy?"
"Not today sweetheart, today you're gonna stay with a babysitter"
"Is it someone from the team?"
"I'm sorry sweetheart but no. I need them today"
Hank was hoping to finally bring down Amelia and Mark once and for all, he would need the help from his team. Before the six-year-old could say anything there was a knock at the door and Hank had gone to answer it. At the door was a young woman around 23 years old, she had dark brunette hair that had been in a loose ponytail, bright apple green eyes, she wore glasses that were pushed towards the bridge of her nose, she had worn a simple blouse and jeans with sneakers.
"Hi, Sergeant Voight? I'm Cameron, you can call me Cam" Cam smiled.
"It's nice to meet you, please come in" Hank let her come into the house.
She walked in and set her bag down and went over to the young girl with Hank in tow. Hank bent down to her level. "Sweetheart this is Cam, she's gonna stay with you today while I'm at work"
The six-year-old nodded. "I understand daddy"
"That's my girl" He kissed her head. "I'll see you tonight kiddo. Be good and behave"
"I will, I promise"
He kissed her head one last time, before leaving out he had gone over the rules with Cam, gave her a list of numbers for emergencies, Cam had paid attention to everything Hank had shown her and explained to her.
She smiled at him. "I've got everything here Sergeant, you have a long day. Dani will be in good hands with me. After breakfast, if it doesn't rain, we'll head to the park or the zoo. She would enjoy some fresh air"
"I think she'll enjoy that, I have lunch for you both in the oven. I prepared some meatloaf and potatoes"
"Thank you. She will be in good hands"
After one last glance at his daughter Hank had left. Cam couldn't have waited till Hank left. She peeked in to see Dani still eating her breakfast. She had to make this fast, pulling out her phone she had made a phone call.
"I'm in. What's next?"
