Ben had dug himself into a hole. When he and his Team faced the Injustice League he had let something slip that he had been hiding for a while something he was hiding quite well he may add.
His feelings for a couple of friends of his.
'Stupid Rath! Why do you have to be such a loudmouth!?' Ben probably could have passed Rath calling them 'His girls' as Rath being stupid and not thinking what to say about his friends getting hit. That probably could have worked if his Teammates did pour a crap ton of gasoline onto the fire.
They had started to tease all of them. Ben wanted to punch them, however, he was forced to tell the truth when both girls asked if all their teasing and his words were true. And I think every guy can agree when you're staring at two cute girls that give you the puppy dog look you just have to tell them the truth. Even the strongest of men would cave.
Although that only led to more teasing from the boys, Robin and Wally, calling him a 'simp'. He swore he would find the person that created that word and kill them.
Now the two girls knew he liked them, he was thankful that they still wanted to hang out with him although that didn't remove the awkward air around them.
There were only two good things, that came out of this shitstorm.
One Rath's rant to Superman had seemed to get it through his head that he had to talk to Superboy and they had been going on patrols for weeks. Everyone saw the smile on his face after coming back from patrol, it seemed he was happy which everyone was glad for.
And second, was that Megan and Artemis were still friends and weirdly enough seemed cool with each other. He was glad they didn't go 'CW drama style' and start hating each other for no reason.
Although he guessed that would mean that they already had feelings for him, he didn't know if they did but he had noticed they have become a lot more… clingy. Like right now for example, Ben and his two girl teammates were walking the halls of Mount Justice, Ben was talking about the 'good ol' days' with Grampa Max and Gwen, while the two girls had both taken one of his arms wrapping around almost lovingly.
He felt like the biggest asshole although he would be lying if he said having two cute girls in his arms didn't feel good.
They then met at the holo ring near the entrance of the cave to train with Black Canary and the others.
Everyone had been assigned a partner to fight with, Megan and Conner, Robin and Artemis, and Aqualad and Wally. This meant Ben had no sparring partner so, of course, that would mean he would have to spar with Canary herself '…fuck!'
While Ben had been dreading fighting the woman, Canary herself was impressed, when she first met Ben he at the very least knew his way around a street fight, but he wasn't that capable of a fighter as a human, now though it seemed as if he was a sponge taking in all her lessons and learning them so quickly it was actually getting hard to keep up with him. She also noticed some of the moves he had incorporated into some of his alien fighting styles which also impressed her. It seemed like every alien had its own specific fighting style that Ben used.
Basically, she was kind of afraid of just how powerful he would be when he became an adult.
Those thoughts were immediately pushed aside as she heard the zeta tube go off.
"Recognized; Zatara 11."
Everyone saw Zatara walk in and immediately turn to the command pad not far from the entrance tube and began typing away until it accepted his request.
"Access Granted: Zatanna Zatara A03; Authorization Zatara 11."
At the name, Ben's eyes widened and he smirked. 'So he finally allowed her to join, huh?'
Zatanna then walked into the cave from the Zeta Tube and saw the whole Team staring at her.
"Zatanna, this is the team," Zatara waved his cane over at the group of teens, "Team, my daughter Zatan-."
"Ben!" The girl interrupted her father as she ran for the boy and practically jumped on him, with Ben holding the girl in his arms. Both Miss Martian and Artemis both looked on in slight envy.
"Nice to see you again Zatanna," Ben responded to her as he set her down already knowing Zatara was staring daggers into him. "So is it official are you finally joining the Team?"
"L-Lets not get ahead of ourselves-" Once again Zatara was interrupted by the zeta beam going off again.
"Recognized; Kent Nelson D02."
"Now don't go backtracking now." The whole Team brighten seeing Kent Nelson entering the cave with a big smile on his face. "Hello, children."
The whole Team ran up to him to greet both Ben and Kent giving each other a nod. "So why are you here? Checking out Happy Harbor?" Wally asked.
"No, no, just making sure this one," He said pointing at Zatara. "Don't go chickening out of our deal."
"What deal?" Superboy asked with a raised brow.
Zatara grumbled. "I would allow Zatanna to… join the Team, but only if somebody is always watching out for her."
"I nominated you, Ben." Answered Kent with a wink. Ben raised a brow and looked at Zatanna as she immediately wrapped her arms around his arm and clung to him.
Black Canary looked on amused by the scene in front of her. She had to wonder what would become of this love triangle later, it didn't seem to be affecting the Team too much which was good, but Ben seemed to have a way with the ladies.
"I swear Ben if you touch her-" Zatara seemed to beagle to saying anything today as he was once again interrupted.
"DAD/ZATARA!" Zatanna and Kent said in unison.
Zatara slouched slightly seeing as he wasn't going to be able to give the fatherly talk. At least not now anyway.
'Are we still on probation with Zatara?' M'gann asked telepathically, clearly confused by how the man was acting.
'Not just him, why is Marvel still hanging around?' Conner grumbled.
'I don't know, but I like him?' Wally scoffed.
'You like him! He's been severing you like a king!' Artemis countered.
Ben was making casual conversation with Zatanna while also using the mind link. 'Look guys I don't think this is probation, however, I would like to start on the Red Tornado search.'
'Agreed.' Aqualad thought with a nod. 'But how will we find him? He could be-'
"Are you guys having a psychic conversation?" Zatanna asked aloud which turned the heads of the 2 Leaguers and Kent, "Because I can't decide if that's really cool or really rude."
Conner gave an eye towards their seniors, "Alright fine! We were talking about Tornado; it's been weeks and the league hasn't told us anything."
Canary frowned, "The League is searching for Red Tornado and the androids that invaded the cave as well as their creator, Tio Morrow," she continued as they all turned to listen, "Batman has made tracking their location his top priority."
Ben smirked and folded his arms, "Yet, you've found none of the above."
"Not yet," Canary corrected, "But, Red Tornado was Justice League; The Team will not pursue this."
Silence took over the room as the teens glared at the adults clearly not liking what they heard.
"... well…" Zatara cut in, "Why don't you all take her on a… Tour of the cave?" M'gann's eyes lit up in excitement.
"A tour!?" Marvel had appeared, and he'd apparently gone off to fetch nachos for Wally, because he had some in his hands, "Cool!"
"Actually, could you take Wolf for a walk?" Conner cut in. It didn't take a genius to realize that he was trying to keep the man from tagging along.
Marvel was eager enough to agree.
"What, but my nachos!" Wally objected weakly. Conner rolled his eyes, grabbing Wally's shirt to drag him off with the rest of the team, which was already heading toward the living area. As they walked, Ben noticed a shift in Zatanna's clothing, and when they reached the kitchen. Artemis noticed only when they got there, her lips parting in surprise.
"When did you…"
"We aren't really going on a tour, are we?" Zatanna spoke
"Nope, we're finding RT," Ben said nonchalantly.
"But, what about the new girl?" Artemis asked, "Doubt her dad would let us."
"Will you tell?" Robin asked.
"Oh, I won't say a word, and it won't even be a problem… at least, not if you kidnap me," Zatanna said, mischief in her voice. There was a small pause, and Artemis turned to the rest of the team with a grin.
"She'll fit in great."
The rest of the Team could only nod at her.
Yellowstone
Wyoming, 5:12 PM
The android known as Red Volcano had been awakened by a robot Tio Morrow. The remains of Tio Morrow's fake body are smashed to pieces on the ground. Suddenly, one of the monitors on Tio's wall lit up and the face on the monitor was one Vandal Savage.
"Morrow, are you there?" Vandal asked looking from the other side of the screen to try and find the doctor.
Red Volcano quickly adapted to the situation, changing his voice box to match Morrow's voice and keeping himself off-screen.
"I'm working on something here. Can this wait?"
"Unfortunately no, it has come to our attention that you might be experiencing guests soon. We need these pests dealt with, all of them dead. We have provided you with something to help you with our request." Vandal says simply as he turns off the screen. Then the android's attention turns to a small purple portal opening above his desk and a small black box with blue lines around it fell from the portal and landed on the table with a *thud*.
Red Volcano walks up to the box wondering what it was, his scanners could even process it which meant it had to be some really advanced tech. He looked at the note on the top that says 'crush it'.
He followed the instructions, crushing the box with his hand. The box exploded but then wrapped itself around Volcano until he was fully covered in the black and blue substance. The blue lines turned red and Volcano observed himself as he now saw his new form.
"What is this? This tech is beyond anything I've ever seen." Volcano stated before looking at his two brothers and sister. Red Tornado stood next to his two siblings, he swear if he could sweat he would be sweating bullets.
Volcano's arms lashed out and grabbed both red androids didn't fight much as they were absorbed into Volcano's body. The android's size increased and he seemed to have gotten more powerful too.
Tornado backed away slightly worried he was next, that worry increased when Volcano started to walk towards him. But Volcano then slapped Tornado away.
"Fool, did you think I was going to absorb you, brother? Your used goods." He then pulled down the red curtains in front of him, revealing the remains of the Mister Twister suit. He quickly used the black and red liquid to absorb the tech, and once again his body grew bigger. "I want the newer model."
Yellowstone
National Park, 5:30 PM
The Team was currently tracking Red Tornado thanks to a machine that Ben had built as Grey Mattern and Brainstorm. As the Team got ready in the Bio-ship Ben and Zatanna, the only ones ready, stood by the door.
"You going to be ok?" Ben asked Zatanna, she looked at him with a raised eyebrow before he raised his hands up defensively. "I don't know if you know any offensive or defensive spells. I don't want to put you in a situation where you can't do anything and you have to sit on the sidelines."
She smiled at him. "It's ok Ben, I learned mostly supportive magic, but I know some offensive spells. There is one where I can call upon lightning but it will take a bit to cast."
"Really? You can't just say gni-gnin… thgil… Gninthgil?" Ben said, knowing her spells were backward words, however, he was naive to how magic really worked.
Zatanna put a hand on her mouth trying to hold in the laugh she was trying to repress, the key word being 'trying', leaving Ben to feel slightly embarrassed.
"It doesn't exactly work like that, but good pronunciation, you might just be a sorcerer yet." She said with a slight laugh as the rest of the Team joined them.
"Do we have any other stealth gear? We can't have Zatanna walking around in casual clothes." Wally asked looking around, Zatanna smiled.
"Oh, you don't have to worry about that. Emit ot yrt tuo eht wen kool." Zatanna cast as smoke swirled around her and enveloped her body. As the smoke dissipated she came out in full uniform.
Everyone smiled at her as Aqualad, Wally, and Artemis tapped their emblems on their chests/belt and allowed their uniforms to meld into a black and grey variant. M'gaan used her mental prowess to shift her organic clothing's appearance.
Red Volcano watched the camera feed as the Team of eight dashed through the forest terrain.
Robin and Artemis approached in the front with the others lining up behind them; the boy wonder pulled a holographic screen up scanning the terrain below, "There's something down there."
"This is where my device says he is," Ben says looking at the device in his hands that were beeping. "Could he be below us?"
"Maybe some kind of bunker." Robin figured.
"Team?" Everyone heard the robotic voice of Red Tornado and looked into the distance. They couldn't see him, but they recognized his voice.
Wally and M'gann were the first to jump up and run forward and try to find the android but Artemis suddenly had flashbacks to the day in the cave when the Red siblings attacked.
They had tried a similar strategy to lure her out by using Tornado's voice. With that, she sprung up from her crouch position and grabbed both Wally and Megan while screaming "Wait!" And pulled them back, thankfully both just missed getting hit by a fireball that would have roasted them alive. All three got blasted back from the shockwave from the fireball.
The rest of the Team ran up to them to make sure they were ok. Ben looked up to see more fire heading in their direction.
"Aqualad!" Ben said out loud in case Megan being too close to the flames took down their mental link. Aqualad nodded running forward and blasting each fireball out of the sky with water-like spears that came out of his water bearers.
'I am really grateful for these upgrades Ben gave.' Aqualad said in his head, his old water bearers would bubble-like projectiles that would do anything to these types of fires.
As they got the three up, the rest of the Team joined in with the defense. They all looked up to the sky to see an android that was way bulkier than Red Tornado and his android siblings although it seemed to have a similar design besides the color difference. Instead of being mostly red, it was mostly black with red lines all around the body. The android was flying above their heads looking down at them as if they were ants and launched several more fireballs at them.
Ben was quickly reminded of Upgrade's look from the android before another thought came to mind. He remembers the 'Galvanic Mechmorph Armor' Azmuth's dad used to hunt him down. With Eon and Vilgax here and them still searching for revenge he couldn't ignore the thought that more villains or more technology from his world could show up.
"Is that…?" Ben narrowed his eyes at the technology before gritting his teeth. He quickly changed into Feedback and charged at the android. 'Superboy, go for a frontal assault. Robin, Artemis, Miss Martian, and Zatanna keep your distance and get ready to launch any projectiles. Kid Flash stays under him and tries to create a tornado to lift him. Aqualad tries to counter any fireballs coming from him."
The Team nodded following his orders. Feedback sent a hoard of electricity toward the android. At first, the android didn't see it as much of a threat before the electricity hit him and immediately found out that Galvanic Mechmorphs had a weakness to electricity.
Artemis and Robin's arrows and explosive discs collided with the android's body and immediately exploded on impact. Superboy then delivers and punches straight to the android's face sending it hurdling toward the ground.
Kid Flash ran in a circle underneath the android, immediately a tornado spawned underneath the android and it was lifted into the air and was left there helplessly looking at the Team.
"It will be harder for him to spawn any fire in a wind tunnel." Feedback commented with a grin. He had confirmed that it was a Galvanic Mechmorph that was attached to him and silently cured Vilgax and Eon for bringing more stuff into this world.
"Well, that was much easier than what happened in the cave," Artemis commented dryly with a smile.
"Not surprising, when they don't ambush us like a bunch of cowards," Superboy spoke with a huff as they all watched the android as he was stuck in the wind tunnel.
"Do not drop your guard, if this is truly the same fire android we fought in the cave then the other is not far behind," Aqualad announced looking around making sure they would not get ambushed again.
"Wasn't that one a female android? Why would the person that created them change their design and gender?" Miss Martian asked
"Maybe they thought a male one would be better," Robin said and immediately regretted the thought as he felt very small under the three girls' stares.
"Why would THEY think that?!" The three girls shouted at him making it very clear when they said 'he' they meant him. The other boys that could hear him all slightly pitied Robin but also called him an idiot for speaking the thought out loud.
The android gave a very dry laugh as he heard what they were talking about. Wally suddenly noticed something about the tornado that he was making. "Uh, guys something happening!" Wally shouted out making the Team look in the direction of the tornado. They could see that the spiral of wind was moving very weirdly.
"You children think I'm Inferno? How foolish!" The android motioned his hand up the tornado heading his command and bent to his whim. He then brought his hand down and the tornado collapsed in on itself and fell on top of Wally sending him flying into the air from the massive winds.
Superboy was quick to jump in the air and grab him and bring him to the ground safely.
"Uh, can Tornado do that?" Robin asked as he was pretty sure Tornado could only spawn tornadoes and wind not control the wind entirely.
"I'm not Tornado." The android commented dryly, his arms crossed. Feedback jumped in and shot a torrent of electricity over to the android but the android was quick to throw his hand in the air in a 'stop' position. A piece of the earth came up from the ground and a giant boulder blocked the electricity from hitting the android. The Android then grabbed the boulder out from the ground and launched it at Feedback. Unable to dodge in time the rock collided with Feedback and sent him hurdling into the forest terrain behind them all.
Aqualad launched several spears of water at the android but they all stopped before hitting him. They then immediately launched back at the teens who all managed to dodge in time.
"And before you ask I'm not Torpedo either." Once again the dry tone in the android was apparent. "Neither am I, what my Father called me, Volcano. I'm something new now." Fire erupted from the ground and launched at the Team as they all tried to dodge out of the way. "I'm something new, call me… Red Elemento!"
Kid Flash ran in immediately and tackled the android making him slide back slightly. He quickly threw a fireball at Kid Flash but the boy dodged.
Robin remembered what happened when Ben hit Elemento with electricity and decided to copy the strategy, both he and Artemis launch the respective weapons at the android who was currently being punched by Superboy, he raised his hands and blocked the weapons from hitting his with a giant rock before he punched the boy of steel and then kicked him away from him.
Superboy wiped his mouth removing any saliva or blood that escaped it and then turned on the watch on his wrist. A golden light enveloped his body and he grinned like a madman as he launched himself at the android again. This time the android punched him first but it was clear it didn't do any damage. Elemento was sent flying from the punch Superboy delivered to him.
Elemento then sent a huge blast of wind at Superboy and sent him skidding back. Aqaualad then came up from behind Elemento and hit him over the head with a water hammer. Aqualad then followed with the attack by combining his water bearers and having them turn into a double-sided sword.
As he stabbed at the android, Elemento blasted him back with heat beams coming out of his eyes. Miss Martian came up from behind the android and got ready to use her powers of telekinesis on him before she heard Ben's voice.
'M'gann try to take off the material around him instead of the android itself.' Ben said through the psychic link. Megan nodded and quickly tried to pry the Merchmorph armor off the android. However, the android immediately felt the attempts and a stream of lava came up from the ground right next to Megan which weakened her.
The android grabbed Miss Martian and lifted her up but his attention was brought by Zatanna casting a spell on Kid Flash.
"Ekoms dna srorrim... Etaerc Dik Hsalf snoisulli!" Zatanna commands as multiple smoke clouds form illusions of Kid Flash. All of them charged toward the android as Zatanna smiles. "I use the scaled-down version to sneak out of the house."
The Kid Flash's charged toward Elemento as said android destroys each one before there was only one left and the last Kid Flash steals Megan from his clutches.
Elemento was then punched in the face by Superboy and before he could retaliate he was punched again by Armodrillo. "Hold him down!" Armodrillo yells and Superboy nods. Both grab the android, Superboy pinning him to the ground. Armodrillo's hand spins and forms into the drill, he then smashes his hand into the android's face.
Before the drill could break through the android's body it blasted Armodrillo's arm making the alien's fault back in pain. Elemento sent a large gust of wind from his body and sent Superboy flying off before he caught himself flying.
"Enough!" Red Elemento shouted, his eyes lit up bright crimson once again as rumbling began underground causing lava to splutter from the top of the Yellowstone Volcano. It trickled and poured out of every crevasse slowly making its way down the mountainside.
"He just started a stage three supermassive volcano eruption," Wally shouted over the earthquakes and lava explosions. "There's no turning back from that! Something needs to stop the already pressurized magma!"
Ben and Superboy struggled against Elemento as Ben gave his orders. 'Zatanna start casting THAT spell! Kid tell us who you need to take out the volcano.'
Kid Flash nodded. 'Ok Robin and Artemis, and a wind alien if you have it.'
Armodrillo looked up. 'You'll get something even better.'
Kid Flash looked where Ben was staring and saw Red Tornado up in the air. "Tornado!" The android saw Wally and quickly rushed towards him, it was only when he reached the ground did Wally notice the huge dent on Tornado's face. "We need to vent pressure, fast. Triangulate around the pressure locus." He looked to Robin and then pointed out the three spots needed to fix the problem. "Aim and fire!" He said to Artemis and Robin as they both did so.
Silently, the android was next, using his wind to vent and cool down the locations, fixing the problem. Kid Flash let out a triumphant cheer as the solution worked.
"NO!" Elemento yelled out delivering a fierce punch to Armodrillo's face, Superboy delivered one of his own sending both the alien and android back.
Ben looked at the Omnitrix in thought, all of his smart aliens could dismantle Elemento but would get thrashed trying. If he tried an element type of alien Elemento would just counter and control what he threw. Upgrade wouldn't fix this since trying to downgrade a metamorph armor hasn't worked in the past. The best he could do without going overboard was to use the electricity advantage. His eye brightened as he got an idea.
Ben slapped the Omnitrix transforming again into an alien that looked like a giant blue jellyfish with white swipes on its body resembling lightning streaks, a main body with three-segmented skirt-like parts for its head, chest, and abdomen, and six long tentacles. "Ampfibian!"
He says his body floated over to Elemento and wrapped his tentacles around his body. He then let out several volts of electricity through Elemento's body that began to shock the android.
"Pathetic!" Elemento yelled grabbing the tentacles, it was clear it wasn't enough electricity to stun him.
Thankfully he had a backup plan.
'Conner back away now! Zatanna go!' Ben commanded as Superboy nodded.
'On it!' Zatanna spoke her eyes lighting up a light blue. "Gnigthgil emoc nwod morf eht Snevaeh dna ekirts nwod ym ymene!"
Clouds floated above the android and suddenly released a violent amount of white-bluish lightning from the sky and struck the android and Ampfibian at the same time. Ampfibian merely absorbed the lightning that hit him and then flowed his own electricity into the mix. After the lightning had settled Ampfibian unwrapped his tentacles from Elemento's body as the android started to fall to the ground.
"Miss Martian!"
'Right!' Coming uncloaked Megan came up from behind the android, her eyes glowing a bright green. She then used her telekinesis to rip off the Mechmorph armor. The armor then bunched up together forming a box once again and taking on its previous blue color before dropping to the ground.
The android known as Elemento split into three, somewhat four, as three androids fell to the ground and other robotic parts fell with them.
'Aqualad, Superboy now!'
Superboy immediately crashed down on top of the woman android and with his heat vision destroyed the body entirely.
Aqualad used his double-sided water blades to cut the male android into multiple pieces before stabbing its head to make sure it was done.
Ben transformed into Echo Echo, spitting himself into 4 and sending a sonic screech that ripped the new android, Red Volcano, apart. He then transformed again and turned into Big Chill phasing right through him and breathing cold air on top of him to completely freeze the android. He then once more transformed into Humungousaur, to smash the pieces of the android and apart.
After they were sure the androids they brought Red Tornado back to Tio's lab where they fixed his face and turned his voice box back on.
There they found out why Tornado even signed up to be their 'Den Mother'. He wanted to become more human and he couldn't do that while in the Watchtower and with Justice League.
In a way, the cave was not a proving ground for just them but for him as well.
They then stopped at Bell Reve's Medical Ward so that Red Tornado could see his 'Real Father'.
After that, they stopped back at Mount Justice. Kent seemed to have an amused look on his face, Black Canary had a tired look and Zatara looked furious and was ready to give Zatanna a stern talking-to and boot her from the Team but thankfully Kent stepped in and took him aside.
The teens all looked at each and smiled. "So good kidnapping?" Ben asked Zatanna as she smiled.
"The best!"
Zatara came back over to the Team with clear irritation on his face. "You can stay on the Team, Zatanna," Zatara commented as she squealed in happiness. "But I'll be watching you," Zatara said to Ben to his confusion.
"Yes sir…" He said with a raised brow not seeming intimidated at all.
The boys all sighed and Robin could only mutter "Dumbass…"
Ben looked back at Robin with a glare. "Oh shut up Mr. Sexist."
The three girls all glared at Robin again as he weakly tried to defend his comment. "I-It wasn't like that!"
