Katawa Shoujo- Raindrops and Puddles
Toby had woken up the next morning. It seemed after the game of risk that he played with Shizune the day before had drained the energy out of him. He was more or less used to the extra sleep but with the classes starting earlier than usual, he had to get used to the new adjustment. After having his breakfast, he decided to make his way to the first period he had. He was looking forward to speaking to Tanimoto about yesterday as well as Nina.
Toby decided to take a seat where he usually sits. It seems that he was on time as the rest of the classroom trickled in. Nina had sat next to him, curious about how his day went.
"How did it go so far?" Nina asked Toby, she seemed to be more or less excited to figure out how Toby's afternoon went.
"It was all right, I was playing a game in the Student Council's office, nothing crazy." Toby explained to Nina what exactly happened. For Nina, she seemed interested.
"Great to hear, I was thinking of going exploring but I decided to visit the Nurse for my hands. He says my hands are cramping up from a lot of use and he was thinking of ways to help ease the joints in my fingers." Nina explained to Toby.
"An excellent solution to a problem." Tanimoto explained to Nina. "It is great that you are looking into solutions to help your fingers out. Maybe you can play that instrument you told me that you were playing in your old school before its closure."
"I know. Hopefully a solution can be found in the next week or two, me and Toby seemed to perform a lot… in our freetime." Nina explained to Tanimoto. Tanimoto nodded, she smiled at the fact that they performed a lot.
"Great to hear. Also, Toby, you seemed to say that you perform a lot with Nina." Tanimoto told Nina before turning her head to Toby.
"We did. We seemed to get a lot of fun out of it. We often did this on weekends when class got out early and we seemed to perform for people passing by. I forgot to bring my piano as I hadn't set up my dorm last night." Toby explained to Tanimoto what he and Nina did at their old school. Toby also explained that he forgot the piano he brought with him for their performances.
"Actually, you can borrow mine for the time being as well as some music books to follow along with." Tanimoto explained to Toby what he can do to practice.
"Sure thing. I'll bring my own once I get everything set up in my dorm." Toby explained to Tanimoto.
"Good to hear." Tanimoto told Toby about it. She decided to set him up while seeing which song she could have him play. Seeing that he had a piano, she could make the assumption that he had some experience to see how it worked. Once reaching more of the end of the book, she found him something that he could practice on. Toby was busy testing the piano out to make sure it wasn't out of tune. Once done, He gave his teacher a thumbs up to show that the piano was in tune and ready to go. Toby cracked his knuckles before he began playing. It seemed easy to follow. "That's impressive. Given how much you do something like this you seem that this is nothing new to you."
"It's not really, I kind of make my own pieces of music when I get the moments." Toby explained while he was playing the piano.
"How long are these pieces?" Tanimoto asked curiously.
"Not too long I will say. I am not the type of person who makes sheets of music that extend out of the book." Toby explained. Tanimoto seemed to be impressed.
"Wow. I never knew you were that talented." Tanimoto explained. "Some of my students don't get very far but I would like to learn how you were able to accomplish such a journey." Toby stopped playing for a moment before turning to his teacher.
"You want to learn more about me and how I started playing the piano?" Toby asked Tanimoto if she wanted to know more about him playing the piano and how he started.
"Of course I do, I hope there is something interesting about you. So many students I have had before you aren't interesting and the students that don't have a lot of experience. A lot of what I teach them turns out to be half baked as I don't have the time to help them out." Tanimoto explained to Toby about what happened and why she wasn't able to get a good student. "You can be what I need as you have some experience at your craft."
"Well… thanks. Maybe when I get settled down more and know more about this school, I will consider your offer that I find interesting." Toby told Tanimoto that he would consider her offer when he decided to get to know Yamaku more as he was still pretty new to the school. "Shizune has offered me to join the student council yesterday as I haven't taken up her offer yet. I think I don't want to be rushed in my decisions on how I should proceed." Toby explained to Tanimoto what exactly he wanted to do.
"Okay. At least you plan on coming to a conclusion on what you want to do?" Tanimoto asked Toby if that was the plan.
"That's right." Toby told Tanimoto. Their conversation was cut short as the bell rang to tell the class that the first period was over and the next period was going to begin. Toby gathered his belongings and decided to head out of the classroom. "I'll let you know what my decisions are." Toby explained that the conversation had been cut short and he needed to figure out what to do later.
"Take care." Tanimoto explained to Toby.
Katawa Shoujo- The Student Council
Toby was walking down the hallway to his next class that he seemed to talk to Tanimoto about, he was given two offerings, join the student council or help Tanimoto out. He wanted to do something for them both as if they were counting on him. Toby decided to enter his second class when he heard a familiar voice.
"Wahaha!" Misha had appeared with Shizune. They were more or less happy to bump into Toby. Shizune made some gestures with her hands as Misha began speaking to Toby on Shizune's behalf. "Shicchan is wondering if you have made your mind yet about joining the Student Council. She thinks you would make a lovely addition." Misha explained to Toby if he made up his mind when it came to something like this.
"Not entirely sure about what you are talking about. I haven't come to any conclusions as of yet. I want to go look around the rest of the school first before making a decision." Toby explained to Misha and Shizune while making some motions with his hands telling them that this was his second day and that he hadn't made any decisions as of yet. Shizune made some motions with her hands and she wanted to speak to Toby.
"Shicchan says she wants to speak to you but everything has to go through me first so you can understand it." Misha told Toby about it. Shizune turned to them both and began to pout, this wasn't what she wanted.
"Why can't she tell me what she wants?" Toby asked Shizune. He didn't know what exactly was holding her back. Signing with his hands as he went. Shizune signed back to Toby as Misha decided to say it.
"Shicchan says you do good with your signage. She likes you for it." Misha explained to Toby. Toby seemed to be taken back but Shizune seemed to want Toby for something. They sat down at their desks as Misha and Shizune began signing on what they wanted to do. Something between spending the afternoon with him or the new kid. They end up saying something about the new kid but they weren't sure about what they were going to say. Toby knew that he had to get through the rest of this day like anything else. Was he going to have to put up with both of them? Possibly. He had yet to see the rest of the school so might as well slip under their noses while exploring the rest of the school himself. What treasures seem to lie beneath him waiting to be found.
Lunch time came around as Shizune and Misha were once again spending their time away. Toby was wondering about looking for some of the rooms where he can try to find something to entertain the thought of being away from Misha and Shizune for a while. Suddenly, three male students came over before taking their seats near Toby followed by Nina shortly afterward.
Katawa Shoujo- School Days
"Hey, you must be Toby Kimura. I'm Haruhiko and these are my friends, Takashi and Aiko. We were wondering who moved into room 024 yesterday. When we found out about the new student, we wondered who he was." Haruhiko introduced himself as he introduced his friends.
"Oh nice to meet you both. I am not sure about what you three wanted to do but my dorm is still a mess which I need to get cleaned up." Toby explained. The three boys seemed to laugh.
"Good thing since Nina was able to explain to us about you." Takashi told Toby about this.
"When did you meet her?" Toby asked the boys if they had any overlapping periods.
"Third and fifth for me." Takashi told Toby about it.
"Second and fourth." Aiko explained.
"Third, Fourth, and last." Haruhiko explained. "Say you have a last period with me and Nina as well so you can see Nina for your last period." Toby was wondering about the school schedule, the boys seemed to have known Nina well when they ran into her.
"Well we can get to know each other more. It seems that I am being pushed by Shizune to join the Student Council if that is something to go off on." Toby explained to the three boys. Aiko gave a laugh.
"Shizune is definitely one for the crowd when we see her for the first period. Misha too. I don't like Misha that much as she has the elegance of a Rhinoceros. Not very graceful at all." Takashi admitted his feelings that he wasn't fond of the two of them.
"Shizune is literally pressuring new students into the Student Council. Many of us said no but she won't shut up about it." Aiko added that it seems that nobody was safe whenever she was around.
"Oh. Should I join it to make them quiet down?" Toby asked if that would be a good idea to join the Student Council to get Misha to shut up. Nina began to think about this. Why didn't Shizune approach her to ask the same question.
"Hmm." Takashi began. "If it means getting them off of our backs, it will make them be able to get something done."
"Okay so a bunch for us and what else is next?" Toby asked.
"What do you want to do this afternoon?" Haruhiko asked Toby if he had any ideas on what he wanted to do. "I'm off to practice running to see if I can beat Miki next Monday. I was so close to doing so."
"Not really much of a runner." Toby admitted that he didn't seem to be interested in running.
"Well we can use another student to help build stalls for the festival coming up this weekend." Aiko added that Toby could be some help when it would come to making stuff such as this.
"What festival?" Toby asked curiously. The three boys looked at each other, Toby must've been confused.
"There is a festival coming up in the school on Sunday, it's going to be a lot of fun. Maybe we can get a game set up for you to try to win. My mother owns a shop and prizes are being churned out. Many of them are animals and hopefully someone lucky goes home with a prize." Aiko explained to Toby that something was coming and he was getting prepared for it.
"I haven't been to a festival in years. Maybe ten. I'm not sure of it myself." Toby explained to Aiko. This seemed to draw Aiko's attention.
"Haven't been to the festival in ten years. Wow, we must make your weekend worth it." Aiko explained as if he was taking Toby's advice and wanting to do something. If it was a wish, then that wish needed to be granted.
"So, it's a Sunday if I may say?" Toby asked them. The boys and Nina gave cheers.
"We'll be there early in the morning ready. It'll be the day of our lives!" Haruhiko told Toby that he would be excited to have him over.
"Absolutely. We seem to be more or less excited for it. We'll be in our dorms tonight if you have plans on hanging out with us. Someone can set up the pool table in the spare room we use for television. I'm just messing with you, we don't have the room although we wish." Takashi told them. It seemed that the boys had their moment with Toby. It was time to eat up.
Toby, Nina and their new friends happily chatted away about their experiences in their old schools, how they got here to Yamaku and what they had planned in mind. They seemed to be absorbed into the conversation that they didn't notice Shizune and Misha who were watching Toby but they had their hands tied that afternoon. It wasn't like they had any sort of plans if they were going to decide on what they were going to do.
They didn't realize that lunch was going to end in a few minutes as they were engrossed in their conversation. Haruhiko, Nina and Toby had decided to make their way to their last period, they were going to decide on what was next.
The last period of the day flew by as they were still deciding on what the afternoon was going to be. Once the bell rang to signal the end of the academic day, the students began to split off and decided to do their own thing.
"I'm going to be going for a few laps around the track, I need to be ready for Monday." Haruhiko explained to the group. He wanted to be ready. "In the meantime can you go to the library to get a few books and supplies for me, it's going to be for my friends. I'll explain the stand and its design and what we plan on doing." Haruhiko left the scene with Toby and Nina left to go get the stuff that was needed. For Toby, he had never seen the library.
"You know where the library is, Nina?" Toby asked Nina.
"Sure do, let's go." Nina explained. She took Toby's hand before heading off to where the library was.
The library was the one thing Toby hadn't discovered about. He wanted to see what it looked like first hand. Inside, he seemed to be taken away by the number of books there were.
Katawa Shoujo- Everyday Fantasy
"Look at all of these books, are you sure you can fit something like this back into the old school?" Toby asked. Nina gave a smile while holding her friend's hand.
"There are more books than the old library, the old place didn't have as much, you can fill three libraries with the amount of books there are." Nina explained to Toby. Now came the mission to pick through the books to find what they needed.
"But where are we going to find what we need?" Toby asked.
"Perhaps I can help with that." A voice told the students, the librarian walked over as she had long auburn hair and green eyes.
"Sorry… who are you?" Toby asked, he felt bewildered that he needed to ask for an introduction.
"I'm Yuuko Shirakawa, I work in this library, anything you two are looking for?" Yuuko gave introductions before asking what they were searching for.
"We're looking for books on building stalls and supplies to get started on them. Haruhiko hadn't specified why he needed the books but he told us to get them. Also got any supplies so we can begin?" Toby asked Yuuko for help.
"Sure, I sense you two are beginners?" Yuuko asked them.
"We both just got transferred here." Toby explained. Yuuko nodded as she began to think.
"Yes I have some books you can borrow for stalls and I'm surprised that you're getting to work early. Most students don't build their stalls for the next day or two. I'm surprised the festival is catching wind." Yuuko told them. She took them both over to where the books were and decided to get them accustomed to what they needed. "These are some of the best books I can find on the subject and contain designs of the winning stalls of Yamaku. I'll go get the other stuff." Yuuko explained before she disappeared to find the supplies they needed. Toby and Nina opened the book to look at the stalls.
"There are so many good designs there. The festival is no joke. I wonder if we can make a stall like the one in the book?" Toby asked. Nina seemed curious.
"We can try. I think I should try to attend the meeting and we can work on it together. All five of us." Nina explained to Toby.
"You said you needed to see the Nurse later?" Toby asked Nina as they were looking through the books of stall designs.
"Hopefully I shouldn't be gone that long." Nina explained. Yuuko came back with some of the supplies.
"You need to ask the art club for paint but I have some of the bare essentials laying around and good timing, I have plenty of supplies to give out, try your best not to be wasteful." Yuuko explained. Toby and Nina smiled.
"We would like to borrow the books." Toby told Yuuko. Yuuko gave a nod before taking the books to the front and ringing them up and putting return dates in the slips.
"Be sure to return these when you're done so other people can look at them." Yuuko instructed them.
"We will." Nina explained. Nina grabbed the books while Toby handled the supplies. They began to walk out when a girl with purple waist length hair and purple eyes entered the library, she timidly passed them without saying a word.
Toby and Nina got back to their dorm with what they needed, they were mostly going to wait for the boys to get back before discussing their plans. Nina dropped the stuff off for Toby as she had something to say.
"I have to get to the nurse to see what he can do with my hands, they're killing me." Nina told Toby before disappearing. Toby was left by himself as he didn't know what exactly to do. He decided to put his stuff down before heading over to his bed, his room was still a mess from the day before. Haruhiko was going to take a while, might as well straighten the room out. Toby took a bit to make sure everything was neatly organized, he didn't know if bringing his piano to Tanimoto was a good idea at the moment. He decided to settle down first before deciding on that. After all, it's still your second day and not only was he being asked to bring the piano but also deciding on joining the student council was a good idea. He heard a knock on the door, he was wondering who it was. Toby went over to open the door to reveal Stephanie standing outside of it.
Katawa Shoujo- Ease
"Hey, how did your day go?" Stephanie asked Toby if he had any ideas of how his day had gone.
"It was all right, I made some new friends and I have decided to help them out when it comes to making their stand. I brought them some books so we can decide what our stand will be." Toby explained to Stephanie what his plan was.
"That's great, most students wouldn't start working on theirs for the next day or two, deciding ahead of time to get this done. I seem to be happy for you." Stephanie told Toby that she was happy to hear her little brother was making friends.
"Glad to hear that. I spoke to Kenji when I bumped into him and he said he's got a new dorm mate. I then asked him if he was coming to the festival on Sunday which I was told about this morning." Stephanie explained to Toby about what was going to happen.
"Did Kenji give an answer on what his plans are?" Toby asked Stephanie if he said anything about heading there.
"He says he doesn't come out of his room at all. I asked why not and he said that he doesn't like the so-called feminist conspirators. I think this way of thinking isn't healthy for him. He definitely needs to start spending time that isn't his room. I then brought you up and he said he would want to see you again." Stephanie explained to Toby about it.
"So he wishes to see me?" Toby asked Stephanie. Stephanie nodded yes. "That's odd, I don't know if he likes boys or something. You're making me curious." Toby explained to Stephanie. Stephanie seemed to give another nod.
"Of course. He says he finds his new dorm mate is boring as he seemed to be withdrawn but the problem is that your dorm is on the first floor. I should arrange something that would allow for the two of you to meet." Stephanie explained. She heard her phone ring before picking it up. "Hello? Okay? I'll come." Stephanie explained before hanging up. "I have to go, a meeting was decided about the festival coming up. I like how you straightened up your room." Stephanie said before she got up and walked out. She was more or less happy for how Toby was enjoying his time here in Yamaku so far. Toby seemed to relax on the bed, waiting for what the next choice would be.
It wouldn't be long as there was another knock on his dorm room. Toby walked up to open it. It was Haruhiko covered in sweat. He must've gone to the track to work out for a bit.
Katawa Shoujo- Daylight
"I'm back and it's nice to see the new student's dorm clean." Haruhiko explained to Toby. "Kenji would be jealous of having a tidy dorm. When I went to visit, his dorm was a mess and I bet it still is."
"Well we were taught to keep things clean when we were growing up right?" Toby asked Haruhiko if that was correct.
"I guess you can say that. I sensed you got everything I asked for." Haruhiko explained to Toby.
"Not everything, I still have a few things I need to get before the festival starts. I still need paint, I'll get that tomorrow." Toby explained to Haruhiko that some of the stuff he needed was still not there.
"Well we can go out of our way and begin working on it. Let's get the meeting started." Haruhiko told Toby before heading off to his dorm. Toby grabbed the books he borrowed and followed Haruhiko. Once there, Aiko and Takashi were waiting to see what Toby had brought over with him. They noticed the book that Toby had out as it contained what seemed to be something that had to do with stalls. Takashi opened the book as he began to look inside of it.
"It's got all the winning stalls that are at the festival. Many of these are from the old days." Takashi began explaining to the group. He continued to flip through the pages to see if they could get some ideas. "There are some from Yakamu, they seem very recent."
"How long has this school been open for?" Toby asked Takashi if he could figure out about the school when the words very recently crossed his mind.
"Only a couple years at this point. This school is still very new." Takashi replied. "It explains why the school is pretty small and rooms are still vacant."
"I think that's a good thing… I'm not entirely sure." Toby replied. He seemed to think being part of a small town was either good or bad. Toby was thinking he was drifting off course before snapping his head to Takashi. "So what kind of ideas should we do for the stall?" Toby asked.
"Well definitely not food and drinks, those are something lots of people do and when they do something like that, there is a lot of competition." Haruhiko told Toby that creating food and drinks was off their mind. For the four boys, they began to think about what they wanted to do.
"Any kind of entertainment, we can use the toys as prizes." Takashi suggested to the group.
"That can work, Aiko said his mother makes toys that he can use to give to them. We can use those as prizes." Toby explained that they were getting somewhere. "Now which stand should we make if we are to give these toys out since we don't want to straight up sell them."
"We can make a game stand." Aiko suggested. "I actually made one last year and I think we can do it again." The boys turned their heads to see what Aiko had to say,
"What kind of games are you thinking about?" Toby asked Aiko if he had any bright ideas about what he had in mind.
"Last year we did a game involving wiffle balls and bottles which were filled with water, if you knocked down all the bottles, you won a prize." Aiko explained how his game worked. The boys raised their heads.
"Great, now I brought some of the supplies over so we can begin working on it in our spare time. Hopefully this will be done by sunday?" Toby explained to the group that he was more than helpful to begin working on the stand.
"Great, we still don't have what we need but we're going to begin one way or another." Haruhiko told the group that they had their ideas for the stand and how they were going to build one. "Leave the book here, we'll come up with a design tomorrow and we'll get started. Meeting dismissed." Toby nodded before getting up and walking out, back to his dorm.
It seemed that Toby was fitting right into the crowd. He was making friends quickly and by the looks of things he seemed to have the right tricks. Sunday had gotten his interest if he was to show the world what he truly made. That will have to wait, it was all coming together. Toby decided to test his piano to make sure that it worked.
The big day was coming, and they were going to be ready.
[A/N]: On a time crunch when trying to finish this chapter. I probably won't be writing for the next few days due to an event that has been building up for a while. Now that the time crunch is here, it seems that I wanted to get this done before I leave.
I'll see you until I return with another chapter.
