Sailing my sea!
Yeah – Never say die, Gotta go! Go!
(The Camera pans upwards to the sky, past the clouds as the Legacy flies off to the horizon as "KAMEN RIDER AHOY" title card appears over the screen)
Unfold the map to tomorrow and let's go together, Go along, along!
(Asahi is currently steering the ship as it flies through the ship, as Kira is currently chasing after Jirou in the background as Saisho rolls his eyes and shakes his head beside him)
When you peer through a telescope, we'll head to an unknown harbor, Go along, along!
(Saisho appears down below the deck and approaches the currently barren wall of Treazures, arms crossed and a look on his face)
Get on the deck! Get on the deck! Take the helm with your hands
(A look of the Blackheart Crew, most covered in darkness with only Gold John being seen as he scowls and swings his blade at the camera)
Get on the deck! Get on the deck! Sail out to the sea of dawn
(Another Kamen Rider, walking through a mist is seen as a feminine figure is seen with glowing blue eyes through the fog)
Say hallelujah with all your might; now raise the sails with your friends
Beneath the sunny sky, we'll head out on the great voyage known as our dream
(Kamen Rider Ahoy is currently swinging his Anchor Blade through a group of Powder Monkeys, before pulling out a flintlock pistol and shoots it off screen before meeting the hook of the strange looking Kamen Rider)
There's nothing we can't overcome, so we'll control the wind
and go anywhere as we please.
(Asahi jumps back onto the Legacy and flashes a peace sign to the audience, as Kira stands at his right, Jirou stands at his left, Saisho stands to the side, back to the camera, as the grinning face of the first Ahoy hangs over the cast, also doing a peace sign).
…
Aboard the Legacy, the three new occupants had very...differing reactions to the situation surrounding them.
Young, excitable Jirou stood aboard the pirate ship with wide eyes as he slowly spun around, mouth agape in awe before it slowly curled up into a massive, toothy grin. "OH WOW!" He rushed over to the side and quickly hopped over the edge, as he gazed down at the clouds billowing down below. "WE'RE SO HIGH UP!"
Knowledgeable, logic-based Kira chose at that moment to shut down. Her world was dedicated to the known and the logical. And currently, she was standing on a massive red pirate ship in the sky after having watched her best friend fight against a gold armored zombie, having transformed into an armored superhero and was now speaking to this strange ghost hologram...thing, about finding these strange little boxes. Her legs gave out and she slid to the ground, a disassociated look in her eyes. "Everything I know...is wrong..." She said, in a daze.
And Asahi, who was more than capable of rolling with even the strangest of situations, found himself to be the one in control of the situation. Something he wasn't exactly used to in this sort of situation.
"Jirou!" he exclaimed as he grabbed his younger brother and yanked him away from the edge. "Get away from there, you'll fall!" As he pulled him away, he passed Kira and looked down at her. "Kira! I need some help, please try to get a hold of yourself!"
"Nothing makes sense..." Her hands came up to either side of her head. "This is Chaos...!"
"It's not chaos, it's very logical!" Asahi argued back as Jirou eventually wriggled out of his grip. "Jirou!"
"Look at this! And that!" Jirou's young energy had come through and was a mere blur as he dashed around the ship, far faster than Asahi could see, raising a hand piteously as he lost control of him again.
And the man on the screen had a look on his face that was suffering on an unheard-of level.
"If you would please get control of the situation." He said, his tone monotone and dull. "We can get back on track for the day."
"Don't you think I'm trying!?" he shouted angrily as he gestured exhaustedly to the situation. "You're the ship, can't you do something!?"
"No, because I'm the ship." The figure vanished from the screen in a flurry of pixels and reappeared in front of Asahi, flickering for a moment once Jirou raced through his body. "You're the captain, YOU handle it."
Asahi gave an annoyed growl and looked over for a moment, pondering his next form of action. An idea sprung to mind, and he looked off to the side, where his hyperactive little brother was currently flitting around. "Jirou! I'll make a deal with you! Help me with Kira and I'll let you touch everything on the ship!"
The man blinked. "Wha-"
"Okay!" Jirou exclaimed with a grin as he immediately rushed over to Kira, mentally comatose and staring blankly out at the ship's interior. "Ms. Kira...?"
"Kira." Asahi began as he walked over to his friend and knelt beside her, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. "I know right now it doesn't make sense, but we'll HAVE it make sense."
Kira's dull eyes glanced at him. "Huh...?"
"We can figure out how everything works, you and me, together! We'll go over every single part of the ship if we have to."
"I did not give you permission to-"
"I'm the captain." Asahi held up a hand to him and glanced at him from the corner of his eye and grinned. "And I'm free to do whatever I please with it."
Bristling indignantly, the man grit his teeth and stepped forward. "You're shaping up to be a very poor captain indeed if that is how you think! The captain and the ship need to be one in mind and body! They need to work in tandem to achieve greatness!"
"Mhm." Asahi said, cocking an eyebrow. "Maybe if my ship didn't give me so much attitude."
"WHY YOU-"
"Hey, what's your name?" Jirou asked, in his childish energy having seemingly teleported over from Kira in front of the man, standing in front of him and looking up curiously.
The man glanced at him for a moment and released an angered puff of frustration from his nose, settling down. "I don't have a name. I wasn't given one."
Jirou blinked innocently, tilting his head to the side. "Everyone has a name." He said in a tone that screamed the obviousness of the statement. "How can you not have a name?"
"I just...do not...have...a name." The man said, his voice slowly crumbling to an annoyed growl as he turned to glare at him.
"I'll give you a name!" He exclaimed helpfully, smiling up at him.
"Please don't-"
"How about...Boat-San?" he asked, pondering for about a solid ten seconds, chin in his hands as he racked his brain for a good idea.
The man didn't look too pleased, as he started to simply walk past Jirou, ignoring him for the moment...for whatever good that would bring.
"Sail-San? Oh! Ship-San!"
Kira, meanwhile, had managed to come out of her mental break and was taking to walking among the ship and getting acquainted with it. Making minor notes as she passed by the sail, the wood that made it up, the small technological advancements that peppered the dated vessel, like the holographic screen that stuck out a good solid two feet from the closest surface and wondered exactly what was projecting it.
"I see, I see." She said seriously, nodding her head and then looking up at the ship. "This ship is a technological marvel unlike anything I've ever seen. Therefore, Asahi, while you're under this thing employ, I will be taking every opportunity to understand this thing and how it all works. I'm afraid you have no say in the matter." She spoke matter-of-factly and nodded her head, crossing her arms.
If Asahi was annoyed, he didn't show it. He grinned and gave a nod of his head and a thumbs up. "Sounds good to me." he Paused, turned and then looked at the man again. "So, what IS my job?"
The man stared at him for a moment and contemplated every decision that brought him to this moment. With a sigh, he gestured to the wall again as it opened, leading to a stairwell descending. "Follow me." he said, sounding despondent as he began the trek down, followed by Asahi, and then Kira after a moment's hesitation.
The underside of the ship was dark and dank, but with a cool glow of bright blue from the screens that peppered the walls around the small group. The man stepped forward and gestured, shutting off screen after screen as he passed. As Asahi passed them, he looked to see that the screens contained various images of his hometown, and the various wares and businesses, not to mention occupants, that lived about their daily lives. Each one shut off as he passed and gestured, until the three of them approached a wall of Treazures.
There were six rows from top to bottom and each row had five rows inserted into the wood. Now, counting the red and silver one that Asahi found previously, and a few other ones. One was bright purple and green, one yellow and orange and one other one grey and black. The man gestured to the wall, which rippled with light as his hand waved and the wall lit up.
"Decades ago, Kaisei Itchimata sailed the seas as Kamen Rider Ahoy, the same moniker you don now. In his journey's, he collected these marvelous items known only as Treazures, small, yet exceptionally powerful in the right hands. Captain Kaisei took it upon himself to collect these and keep them out of the wrong hands."
"Wrong hands?" Asahi asked with a blink, tilting his head to the side. "What kind of wrong hands?"
"The Black Heart Pirates." He turned and gestured to a screen, that turned into a screen that held the image of a black heart, with a notable scar going across the front of it, with a hand gripping it tightly from behind. "A roving band of monsters who seek nothing more than to collect the Treazures and use them to cause untold damages, and to destroy everything held dear by everyone."
"And this Kaisei defeated these guys before?" Kira asked, hand to her chin as she pondered. "Then why are they still giving us problems?"
"They're not anything even remotely resembling humans anymore." He said with a bitter tone. "They're monsters. Sold their souls long, long ago for great power. They're powerful, they're dangerous and they're not to be trifled with."
As the image of the Black Heart logo faded and was replaced with the world. Sporadically, Xs appeared over the surface of the planet, changing occasionally, to indicate the new hiding places of the Treazures. "Kaisei fought long and hard against the Black Heart Pirates. But eventually, even his body gave out and he...was lost in the battle against their captain, Black Heart."
Asahi noted the sadness in his voice as he said that, catching even a glimmer of regret in his...eye? He shook his head for a moment and sighed, turning back to Kira and Asahi.
"After he passed, it was my responsibility to take the Treazure and hide them, to ensure that nothing happened again, in his honor. But now...now that the Black Heart Pirates have begun to rise again, then I've needed to take desperate measures to ensure the worlds protection."
"Wait, that doesn't explain..." Asahi frowned, tapping his chin. "How long has this been going on? You said I wasn't the first choice-"
"Or second, or third, or even the fifty-eighth." The man mused. "You are, according to my records, the one hundred and twenty fourth iteration of Kamen Rider Ahoy."
"One hundr-" He blanched, stumbling in place. "How long has this been going on for?!"
"What's the current year?" he asked, turning to face them.
"Two-thousand and Twenty." Kira pipped up.
"About two hundred years."
"That..." For a moment, Asahi stumbled a bit over the implications. "That is a lot of Kamen Riders..."
"What's killed them?"
"Recklessness. Inability to listen to instructions. Often, I deemed them not worthy of the mantle and took the power away from them." He sighed and closed his eyes. "I should have done it more often. I would have saved more lives that way. They may have been reckless idiots but even they didn't deserve to die."
"And those...treasure chests?" Asahi asked, as he approached them apprehensively. "Those are...what they've managed to get?"
"Indeed. In the past two centuries we have acquired..." And he sighed in long suffering silence. "Four Treazures."
Asahi stared up at the wall silently. He looked at all the empty spots on the wall, the implications of his destiny. His hands reached down and gently touched the belt that was wrapped around his waist as he looked at the other Treazure he held in his hand. He turned it over lightly, investigating every single inch of it.
It's so light...so...why does it feel so...heavy...? He mused to himself as he flipped it open silently, as he gulped. His heart hammered away in his ears, and he took a deep breath, his eyes closing. It was a lot to take in. So, at that moment he decided to consider things that he knew for certain.
He was Asahi Iwatari. He was eighteen years old. He was an older brother and an average grade student. He was working at Mrs. Fukami's general store after work most days and he helped his father with chores before going to bed. His best friend was Kira Kitagami and-
Wait.
His eyes went wide, and he turned to Kira. "Kira! What time is it!?"
Blinking in surprise, Kira pulled out her phone and pressed the button. "Ah...six fifty-eight."
"AH! I'M LATE!"
"Late?" The hologram turned to him, confused and tilting his head. "Late for what-"
"Work! I'm late for work! I promised Mrs. Fukami I'd do some deliveries today before the sun went down!" The Asahi that was fun, energetic and peppy was now replaced by terrified and panicked, as he quickly dashed up the stairs. "I need to go!"
"Go!?" He shouted, as he appeared in front of a sprinting Asahi and held his hands out, glaring. "You can't go! Did you not hear a single word I just said-"
"Yes, and I'm super excited to help you out but I really, really need to get going! It's very important!"
"I am not landing this ship-"
"That's fine you don't have to Kira take care of Jirou until I get back!"
Barreling past him and breaking him apart into fragments for a moment, the man turned in stunned surprise to watch Asahi climb over the railing of the ship and jump straight off.
"What are you doing!?" The man howled in shock as he quickly disappeared and rushed over the side, looking over it. "We're at least six thousand feet in the air!"
"Bye big brother!" Jirou chirped as he loomed over the side as well, a big smile on his face as if this was the most common occurrence in the world. "Say hi to Mrs. Fukami for me! Oh, and try to get some sweet buns for me tonight!"
"I had nothing to do with you being late." Kira shouted dispassionately over the side, an annoyed frown on her face. "I'm not your keeper, Iwatari."
"Why-Why are you acting as though this is the most common thing in the world right now!? He just jumped off a ship to his death!"
"Nah." Jirou shrugged his shoulders and grinned, pointing. "Asahi can't die yet. He's still got stuff to do."
And true to form, Asahi free fell for a moment longer before, almost against the idea of fate itself, he fell onto the awning of another store, written in bright pink text "TOYO'S TOY STORE", buckled the awning a little bit, and then bounced a little bit into the air. This time he cleared the awning and landed in front of an older man with a cloth wrapped around his head and an apron around his waist, currently sweeping some dust out from his store. He blinked in surprise and jumped back as Asahi landed a perfect three-point landing and looked around for a moment.
"Late for work today, Asahi?" The man teased with a grin.
"Sorry Mr. Toya can't talk I'll talk to you later bye!" With barely any room to respond, he dashed his way down the sidewalk, dancing around the multitude of obstacles in the shape of men, women, children, and the elderly. He spun around the corner and then, was gone from sight.
Toyo chuckled a little bit and shook his head. "Bless his heart." He laughed and continued to sweep his store to perfection.
…
The gnarled cutlass found purchase in its scabbard at the side of the faceless man as the two of them drifted into the inky blackness of the ship he and the strange fountain creature in tow. The creaking of the wood echoed louder than the steps they were on but neither individual seemed too concerned about the matter.
"Is there something on your mind, Gekaisui?" The faceless man intoned as they reached the bottom of the stairs, allowing the creature to keep up.
The newly appointed creature turned its head (or rather, attempted to, as he also lacked a notable face like his companion) and nodded his head, again, never spilling a drop of water. "I simply wish to know what your next plan of attack is." he asked, gesturing to the belly of the ship. "In case you didn't realize, Gold John was the only one we have-or rather, had. It's just down to you and me, and it's going to take some time before John is even capable of fighting again."
"Who said anything about it being just the two of us?" The faceless man asked with a humorless laugh as he approached the dingiest looking door on the ship and kicked it open, forcing a cloud of dust that filled the air, implying it had been some time since the room had even been thought about. Stepping through the cloud and followed by Gekaisui, the faceless man walked in with his hands behind his back.
Like a twisted parody of the room in the Legacy, was a wall of what appeared to be Treazures but...Not. The "wood" on them was mangled, rotten, swollen, like wood that had been left in the water for far too long. Normally gold finishes on the Treazures had been replaced with rotten metal that barely did anything to hold them together. While the Treazures held bright, shiny doubloons and coins, the inside of these held various items through the broken wood that one could see through.
The major difference being that while, on the Legacy, the wall could hold at least thirty, this one only held about ten. And each one radiated with such noxious energy that anyone lesser would have retched just looking at them.
"What!?" Gekaisui asked in surprise as he turned to his captain, somehow managing to express surprise and shock despite his lack of face. "They're not ready! Who on Earth ever said they were ready to be woken up!?"
"A loyal crew always comes to a Captains beck and call, regardless of how they feel." He said, as he approached the chest that had the most notable colors inside of it, despite being notably dimmer. "I think it's time for our crew to begin waking up." He looked at it closer and nodded. "Akahana will do."
"Oh no." He bemoaned, his form slumping. "Why him...?"
"If we're to deal with an Ahoy again after so long, then we need someone who knows how to kill them, specifically." He nodded and held up the defiled Treazure, as he approached Gekaisui. "Now it's time for you both to earn your keep."
"But sir, again, it's not enough time-"
He didn't let him finish as he held the Treazure tight in a fist and forced it into the water on his fountain head. Stumbling back, Gekaisui gasped and held his head as the water began to bubble aggressively and froth, and he began to moan and groan and plead for something, anything, to end it faster than he would have liked-
And with a howling scream, and a flash of red, the ship was silent.
…
Shoe soles screeching to a halt and kicking up some smoke from the sheer velocity of the sudden stop, Asahi stumbled a bit and immediately dove into the grocer, holding up his hand and panting heavily, he grinned. "I'm here...Mrs. Fukami...!"
"You're late." Said the older woman with her hair tied up in a bun and a cloth wrapped around her hair. An angry look in her eyes as she approached Asahi with a few bags of groceries, which were fit to bursting with contents. "You better hurry up and deliver these, they've been waiting for almost an hour!"
"Yes, yes ma'am, right away." He bowed in respect and quickly grabbed them from her hands, refusing to buckle under the sudden weight of them. Rushing outside and placing the bags on the handles of a bike, he took the helmet off the seat, fastened it to his head and quickly made his way down the street on said bike.
The man on the boat frowned, arms crossing as he watched the scene from the screen on the wall. "What is this."
"That's Mrs. Fukami." Kira said conversationally as she looked up at the screen. "She's the head of the grocer at home, and Asahi works for her by delivering groceries to people who normally can't get them."
"He's been working for her for about two weeks!" Jirou pipped up in the background, currently took busy stacking books to properly look outside the porthole.
"Will this...interfere with his destiny as Ahoy?"
"Oh no it shouldn't." Kira shook her head, pulling out her phone and checking the date. "He should be quitting today."
Not that the man cared, but it did give him pause. "Why is he quitting?"
"He tends to quit things after about two weeks."
The man paused and frowned. "What."
"Asahi doesn't really stick around most places he's not feeling." Jirou perked up, looking over at the two of them and earning the full attention of the man. "So usually after about two weeks he'll just give up on a place like Mrs. Fukami's."
"And how many times has he done something like this?" The man asked, his tone not pleased.
"Since the school year started, about...eight times?" Kira asked, after doing a quick bit of mental math.
"So, he's going to likely quit Ahoy." The man sighed, shaking his head and sighing. "I knew this was too good to be true. At least this time I caught it early. I'm just going to go ahead and-"
"Wait, wait, wait!" Kira said, holding her arms out in front of him and jumping in front of him. "You can't "just-" The man dissolved into pixels and quickly slipped around her, reforming and making his way up the stairwell. The steam left Kira for a moment. "Right, forgot about that." Wasting no more time, she quickly rushed up the stairs after him, who was now standing at the Ship Wheel. With a quick turn of it, the ship began to descend down to the planet below, at such a shift and change of speed that Kira gave a quick yelp of panic as she was lifted off the surface for just a moment.
Finding her tenacity again, she rushed over and grabbed the wheel, yanking it and stopping the ship mid turn in midair. However, it was still quite a bit of effort as her face went red with exertion.
"What are you doing!?" He shouted in anger, stepping away from the wheel and glaring at her.
"I'm stopping you from making a huge mistake!" she shouted, panting softly.
"Let go of the wheel, human." He snapped as he stalked over to her slowly. "I'm not asking you so I can turn the wheel. I can do that with my mind. I'm asking you so I don't hurt you."
"Look, if you just wait for a moment and not jump to conclusions-"
"I'm not jumping to conclusions! You don't know what's at stake here and you're currently threatening the world as a whole by doing this. If your little friend isn't anywhere near the kind of person that I need to be Ahoy, then I will go and search and find someone who is!"
"You don't even know him!" She exclaimed as she rose to her feet. "How do you know he isn't!?"
"I need someone true. I need someone dedicated. I need someone who's going to be what I need them to be, when I need them to be it! If there's an even a fraction of a chance that HE-" He pointed to a screen which popped up right beside him, showing Asahi knocking on a door with about three of the bags in his hands. "-Won't be what I need, then I'll find someone else!"
"Vessel-Kun?" Jirou's voice perked up.
"What!?" The man shouted, spinning around and fuming at the innocent smile on his face.
"Oh, so you like Vessel-Kun?" Jirou asked, his smile bright and disarming.
"What-I-No! I don't like it!"
"But you responded to it!"
"You got into my head and surprised me! Now what do you want?!"
Kira watched in silent confusion, realizing she didn't need to exert herself as much as she did mere moments ago. Looking at the steering wheel and then back at the argument, she caught a glimpse of Jirou's hand as he gave a quick little circular motion with his index finger.
Catching on immediately, she stood to her full height, steeled herself, grabbed the wheel and SPUN.
The boat immediately took into the air again, and it took a lot to keep Kira at the wheel, but Jirou managed to maintain his footing, even with the sudden incline the boat took. Spinning around, the man flared in anger at Kira and began to march his way up to her. Kira looked back over her shoulders and quickly turned the ship to the right, steeling herself at the sudden shift.
To no one's surprise, he did not even falter, and the look in his eyes was downright murderous. "I suggest you back away from that wheel before I lose what little patience-"
"Boat-Kun!"
"WHAT!?" He spun around.
Had the hologram had an opportunity to pale, he would have done so. Jirou was looming over the side of the boat...in his hands, one of the Treazures in his hand, holding it over the edge.
Jirou stared him dead in the eye with an intensity that did not befit someone his age. His little fist clutches the box and holds it up off to the side.
"My mom always told me...that when you're rude to people, you get punished. When I was rude with Tomaru...my mom didn't like that and took my toys away from me as punishment."
He moved his hand out a bit more, and the hologram gestured as if to stop him.
"You're being rude." He said, with the indignant tone an adult would take to a bratty child. "So, unless you stop, I'm taking your toys from you!"
The air was tense, with the wind billowing around them and causing their clothes and hair to flutter about. The Hologram stared at him for a moment, a flurry of emotions going through his face, through his eyes...before he gestured casually, and Kira found herself buckling as the ship wheel finally turned without any resistance. Immediately, her grip tightened, and she righted the ship to make sure Jirou wouldn't fall off with a wayward jerk.
Jirou smiled and hopped off the side of the ship, Treazure still in hand, and approached. "See?" he asked, cheerfully. "That's what happens when you're not rude!"
His eyebrow twitched, and he exhaled, sharply.
"Now." Kira said from her position over by the ship's wheel. "Will you listen to us about Asahi?"
Turning his attention to her, he was silent for a moment...before he exhaled.
"I suppose I have no choice, now do I."
"That's the spirit."
...
"Bye!" Asahi smiled as he waved at the happy young family that was, while annoyed, still grateful to have received their groceries...if a bit later than anticipated. "Have a good day!"
But then again it was Asahi, it was almost expected at that rate.
Hopping up onto his bike and tucking the helmet closer to his cranium, he started down the street.
The wind in his hair, the warmth of the sun beating down on him, and for Asahi, that was all he needed. It was almost enough to take his mind off what he was going to have to do once he got back to Mrs. Fukami's shop.
The inevitable, and expected, quitting on the spot.
Asahi Iwatari was...lost. That was the nicest way to possibly describe it. People in life tended to know exactly what they wanted to do at a certain point in their lives. They wanted to be writers, they wanted to be astronauts, police officers, scientists, businessmen, all the way down to the more mundane options like shop owners, shrine keepers...the like.
But...Asahi never had ambitions like that. And that made him think...
Was there something wrong with him? What kind of person didn't know what they wanted to be? And what kind of person allowed themselves to live through that point in their lives? They figured something out. They've studied. They've researched. Everything and anything they could to find out, exactly, where they belonged.
To not be so poetic and cheeky, their "destiny".
Asahi had watched countless people prepare for their futures. People are going into training, into doing research on what they'd need. Excelling at school, preparing for the future, asking their idols questions...
And Asahi...did not.
He was happy go lucky on the outside. Free spirited, ambitious, friendly, and determined to help people.
He was also lost. Lost and to the point that...that made him scared.
All these jobs, these opportunities. All of them attempts, thoughts, one would say, desperate chances to feel like he could belong somewhere. Like maybe, just maybe, in these seemingly mundane jobs, was where he felt like he could be happy.
Delivering groceries for Mrs. Fukami? No go.
Sweeping at the Toy Store? Sadly, not.
Attempting to be a halfway decent barber? There's a reason you had to go to school for it.
Night guard, ramen seller, shrine keeper, garbage collector...everything and anything...nothing.
Not a single one.
And every single day, Asahi felt himself grow more and more...
Hopeless.
...
"So." The man said, slowly, arms crossing. "You think I should give him this continued attempt...because you feel as though it may be his calling."
"In not so many words." Kira nodded her head, turning to Jirou for assistance. "Asahi is..."
"The best!" Jirou nodded his head eagerly. "I know he's a little scared, but I know he loves helping people more than anything else, in this entire world!" He threw his hands up in the air for emphasis. "If you want anyone to be a hero, it's my big brother!"
Kira nodded, her arms crossing over her chest. "While I do give him a hard time with his flippant personality...he does still give it his all. He doesn't just give up on something just because he doesn't suit it. He does everything he can to the best of his ability, even if it means it's not for him."
The man frowned a little bit and crossed his arms. "And this is supposed to convince me to let him continue being Ahoy?"
"That's exactly why." Kira snapped, her eyes narrowing at him, which earned her a glare right back at him. "Because Asahi is a lot of things...he's an idiot. He's a lackadaisy. He's aimless."
She inhaled through her nose.
"But he's loyal. He's dependable. He always tries his best. He's my best friend."
"He's my big brother!" Jirou popped in.
"And if you want someone to be a hero. If you want someone to help you look for these-these Treazures, or whatever they're called-" She gestured to the wall of Treazures in question. "Then you'll have no one better than Asahi."
The man was silent, the glimmer of determination failing to fall from his eyes. His fingers rapped against his arm as he uncrossed them. He took a step forward, to make a comment, his mouth opened-
The alarm rang, and the normally cool room was filled with flashing red lights.
One of the screens suddenly shifted to a busy crowded street full of various stands, carts and unassuming populace. The man narrowed his eyes and floated over.
"Is it another Treazure?" Jirou asked, as he rushed over alongside him, earning an annoyed glare from the man.
"No, it's…-" His eyes narrowed, but then they widened in surprise.
"The Blackhearts again!?"
...
"Again, I'm sorry, Mrs. Fukami." Asahi explained to the older woman, as he took his apron off and held it in front of him with an apologetic look in his eyes. "I didn't mean to...you know..."
Fukami was silent for a moment as she took the apron as handed to him and stared down at it, smiling after moments pause. "I know you're a good kid, Iwatori. You're a little scatterbrained but...I suppose I can't fault you for trying." She chuckled as she folded it over her arm and placed one hand on her head. "That's almost everyone in the city right now, huh?"
"Yeah, seems like it." Asahi said with a little chuckle that was definitely not full of humor, one full of slowly imposing dread.
"Don't stress it, dearest." She said, reached forward and patted him on the arm. "Everyone finds where they belong eventually. You're not different. You just need to-"
BOOM!
The explosion rocked the shop, rumbling the floor and knocking several items off the shelves in the grocery store they were standing in. Asahi's first instinct was to reach forward and grab her, helping steady her and keep her from tumbling over. "What was that!?" She screamed in surprise, turning her attention to the glass door that separated the two of them from the outside.
Asahi was first to rush out, barely missing the deluge of people that stormed down the street in the blind panic, screaming and shouting in terror at...whatever was happening at the end of the street.
At the end of the street, amidst flames and smoke, there was what appeared to be a humanoid, but on closer inspection was anything but. He stood about a good foot or so taller than Asahi with a grimacing demonic visage that seemed frozen in a snarl. Hair that was fiery and red like that of ruby, long and in dreadlocks that fell down to about his middle of his back, with a beard of similarly shade of red, only...far different looking, inorganic, off putting like it wasn't hair but some kind of gemstone. A jagged scar ran from the middle of his face, from the top of his right eye that went down to the left side of his lower face. However, it looked as though the scar was made of ruby crystal, at least from what Asahi could see. A red coat sat over a white shirt, and a pair of black pants and leather boots. In his right hand was a cutlass of ruby crystal, and a pistol that sat in his belt loop.
"I KNOW YOU'RE OUT THERE SOMEWHERE, AHOY!" screamed the pirate creature, as he stamped his foot on the ground. Burning cracks of fire erupted from the point of impact on the ground, which spread out and caused more explosions around the city block. More people screamed and hollered at the sudden wave of destruction, and few barely managed to make their way out of there. "Unless you want me to raze this place to the ground, you will come out and face me, Akahana Ryuji! Unless you're a COWARD! Grahahahaha!"
"He knows about Ahoy?" Asahi asked himself, quietly, grimacing as he looked around for a moment.
He stared down the creature threatening to hurt more people around him. The screams and the explosions, the panic, the noise...it was all drowned out to Asahi, as everything seemed to slow down for him.
Heart hammering.
Mind racing.
Adrenaline pumping.
He only knew one thing at that moment.
Fight.
Protect.
Defend.
THAT is where Asahi felt he belonged.
His eyes narrowed, and he rushed down the street, against the wave of panic, screaming, terror, and sought to stop that.
"HEY!" Asahi shouted, as he stood just on the edge of the burned, cracked earth that Akahana had created.
Akahana turned his attention to the foolish human that stormed up to him. Their eyes met for a moment, before Akahana laughing and gesturing to him. "You best be moving along lad. You don't want to be here any longer than you need to. I'm lookin' for Ahoy."
"I'm not going to sit here and let you hurt anyone while I'm around." Asahi shouted to him his fists clenched tightly as he kept his intense glare on him. "If you're looking for Ahoy..." Reaching behind him, he pulled out the Map Driver in one hand, and the Ahoy chest in his other. "You've found him."
Akahana started, almost falling over in disbelief. Then, after his head tilting to the side...he began to laugh. It started off as a chuckle before it turned into a delighted, almost excited cackle. "YOU? YOU'RE the new Ahoy!? You've gotta be kidding me, you're a WHELP! A pup! A kid!"
"I may be a kid, but I'm still the guy you're looking for!" Asahi shouted. He threw his hand holding the Treazure forward, determination showing on his face. "I don't care who you are, you're going down!"
Akahana's uproarious laughter turned to a low, menacing chuckle as he stepped forward, slowly, the ground cracking under each step. "No, you ain't, kid." He said, his voice a dull growl as he did. "You know what you're gonna do? You're gonna DIE if you step up to me. My name is Ruby Akahana, and I'm one of the Blackheart Pirates greatest fighters." He stepped up in front of Asahi, utterly dwarfing the young man, and loomed over him threateningly. "Do you know how many Ahoy's I have under my belt, lad?"
One hundred and twenty-fourth- The man's voice echoed in his head, almost mockingly.
"Ninety-nine." Akahana chuckled. "You think you're good enough to be...my one hundredth kill?" Leaning forward, he chuckled. "You ain't worth wiping the blood off me-"
CRACK!
Asahi's fist struck the monster in the face, twisting his head to the side. Asahi, now with a throbbing, dull pain in his hand, quickly stepped back.
"I don't care if I DO die." Asahi promised. "If it means protecting everyone around me, my home, my friends, then I'll do whatever it takes, fight whoever I have to! I don't care if you've killed other Ahoys..."
He held up the Ahoy Treazure to the sky, and then slammed it on the Map Driver, his other hand hitting the switch on the side as well.
X! MARKS! THE! SPOT! CHEST! OPEN!
Asahi was more prepared for the wave this time as he stood against the rushing current, his hands firmly planted on either side of him.
"HENSHIN!"
ALL HANDS-ON DECK! MAKE WAY! KAMEN RIDER! AHOY! YAR HAR!
The cannonball sized orbs of water shot around Asahi, which were enough to drive Akahana back...but not by much. The armor snapped around Asahi, until he stood there as Kamen Rider Ahoy properly. He took a step forward.
"Raise the colors..." He began, as he pointed his fist up to the air, and then swept his hand forward, causing his long coat to billow out around him. "Set sail...Kamen Rider, Ahoy, on deck!"
Akahana was unimpressed, and he made that very, very well known. "Like I said, mate. You ain't worth the blood wiping off my blade. Tell ya what...you wanna die so badly?" He lifted his hand up in the air. "Then live through this, and I'll give you a proper death! POWDER MONKEYS, ON DECK!" And snapped his fingers to a resounding crack.
The cracks around him suddenly filled with a thick, heavy powder like substance that began to slowly leak out until the entire area around Akahana was surrounded by a thick, soot-like powder. Limbs began to reach up from the powder like it was water, until around Akahana was about a dozen or so creatures low to the ground.
The term "Powder Monkey" was very much on the nose, if only because the terminology belonged to those who loaded up the cannons on the ships. Vaguely humanoid in appearance, with hooded clothing that hid their face and strange movements and chirping not unlike a monkey. They held knives and smaller flintlocks in their hands, and they were absolutely COVERED in gun powder.
Akahana chuckled and gestured. "Get him."
And they surged forward with loud, howling screams.
Asahi met the surge head on with his own shout of battle and rushed forward as well.
Ducking under one swing from the knife of another, he returned it with a swing of his fist upwards into a brutal upper cut that sent the powder covered creature stagging backwards with a yelp. He spun around to meet another attempt at him and caught the wrist holding the knife just mere inches from hitting him in the face. With a cry of effort, he pushed him back with all his might, sending it flying back and landing on its back with a thud.
Where one fell, two more quickly joined in, and both of them swung high, and low, respectively. Asahi dodged the one high but couldn't dodge the one swinging below as the knife struck him in the stomach. Thankfully, the armor was more than enough to protect him but the wind getting knocked out of his stomach was another matter altogether. Stumbling back and holding his hand over his stomach, he quickly diverted another stab attempt at his head with his hand, diverting it to the side and then striking it with his free hand when the pivot was finished. Then, he turned in time to meet another one rushing at him, where he struck him with a side kick in the ribs, sending it squealing and flying to the side.
A right hook struck another one and sent it flying backwards, twisting the creature as it flung through the air. One attempted to tackle him in the side and got about...halfway there, before Asahi drove his elbow into the back of it, sending it down onto the ground, where it instead found purchase with its leg, gripping onto it tightly. Another one grabbed him from the side, and another followed to the other side.
Six Powder Monkeys aimed their pistols at him and took aim, clicking their hammer's back...
And then the ground in front of them exploded violently, sending them scattering back with a chorus of screams and panic. In a crater in front of them was the Anchor Blade.
"Eh?" Asahi asked, as he turned his attention upwards, where the Legacy came into view. "Oh! You're here!"
"I find your ability to get into fights without my knowledge to be concerning, boy." The Man boomed over the loudspeaker of the ship, as Asahi fought off the Powder Monkeys that were holding him down. "I suggest you get a move on. Akahana is not one to be trifled with."
"Noted!" Asahi shouted as he rushed over and grabbed the Anchor Blade from the ditch in the ground, holding it up and swinging it immediately, striking one of the charging Powder Monkeys that shrieked, rolled and then exploded into a fiery conflagration. "Oh, much easier!"
Akahana stood off to the side, chuckling a little bit as he stroked his crystal-like beard. "This is gonna be interesting..."
Asahi jumped out of the crater with a shout and landed in front of three of the Powder Monkeys, where he swung at two of them and sent them backwards in a shower of sparks, parrying the strike from the third one and kicking him away, before striking him in an X shape over his chest and sending him backwards where he exploded.
The click to the side of him caught his attention, and he turned over in surprise. Three Powder Monkeys clicked their hammers back on their guns and fired at Asahi, who barely had a chance to hold his blade up to block the blows. While he did block two, he couldn't block one, that struck him in the stomach, shouting out while he skids back.
With the blade up to his face, he stared at it for a moment...and saw a strange indent in the handle of the weapon, just under the blade. "Eh?" he asked, tilting his head. "Looks..." He looked down and pulled the Treazure out of the blade, holding it up for comparison.
A perfect fit!
With a curiosity that did not fit his current situation, he took the Treazure and inserted it into the indent of the sword-
CAPTAIN ON DECK!
"Gah!" Asahi yelped in surprise and held the blade away from him, where the blade began to glow a cool, water blue.
"Swing it." The man ordered him through the helmet.
Following the order, he held the blade up and reached back to swing it. Immediately, the blades unfolded out to its Anchor form, and the blade began to pulse with power, and as he swung it, the blade screamed out-
FINAL WHIRLPOOL!
The blade spun out and did not finish spinning, surrounding Asahi in about a thirty feet radius around him of bright blue energy. The swing struck the Powder Monkeys before outright collecting them, spinning them around like the aforementioned whirlpool, collecting the almost dozen of Powder Monkeys in a screaming fit.
Then, with a flick of his wrist, Asahi flicked the chain connecting the anchor down. The Anchor slammed down into the ground, where the Powder Monkeys all exploded in a MASSIVE eruption of fire and stone.
Asahi panted heavily as he flicked his wrist back, where the blade flew back into his hand and began to turn around. The victory was extremely short lived as Akahana's fist struck Asahi in the head with enough force that he was sent flying back, skidding on the ground and hit the curb headfirst, where he groaned and picked himself up.
Akahana laughed as he cracked his knuckles, standing where Asahi was mere moments ago. "Alright, Ahoy. You survived. Good for you." Then, he punched his fist into his open hand, sparks of fire erupting from the impact. "Now you can be my 100th Ahoy kill!"
"Oh boy." Asahi grunted and picked himself up. "Hey, Ship-San-"
"That is NOT my name-"
"What are my chances with this guy?"
"Very low. He just told you he's killed more than 80% of Ahoys. You're going to need some help with this one." There was a pause.
"Well, I won't give up regardless." He grunted, picked himself up and held up the Anchor Blade at the form approaching him. "I'm not like the other Ahoy's...my story does not end here!"
He tilted the blade and stood up a bit straighter.
"I'll fight you, and I'll stop you. I'm not scared of you. Because..."
He clenched his hands on the handle of the blade, as he inhaled.
"Because this...this is what...I was meant to do!"
Akahana grinned. "Better men than you have tried, lad." He said, as he held up his Ruby blade and chuckled. "You ain't gonna be too much better."
He swung. Asahi swung. The battle began.
...
The man in the Legacy stared at the screen as the two of them crossed blades with a shower of sparks. Kira watched with her hands held in front of her chest. Jirou was cheering and crying out for his brother to beat him.
The man turned his attention elsewhere and vanished from sight from the two of them and then appearing in the Treazure room. Impassively, he stared up at the wall of Treazures, all four of them, and sat alone in his thoughts.
"They weren't as good as you." He spoke aloud, his arms crossing over his chest. "None of them were. They lacked...something. A spark. They lacked the desire to be something. To be Ahoy."
He was silent, as if waiting for an answer that wouldn't come.
"How much is it my fault, that so many have fallen in my control?" he asked, closed his eyes and inhaled. "Is it my fault, that I didn't believe in them...or is it their fault, for not taking it seriously."
He stared up at the chests again, as if trying to justify his own actions. And knowing deep down he couldn't
"...If he is the one who can uphold your Legacy...then I... will give it an attempt."
He waved a hand, and one of the Treazures vanished from the wall. Nearby, one of the cannons closed,
"Just this once."
And pressed the" FIRE" button that appeared on the screen in front of him.
...
"You call that fighting!?" Akahana cowed as he swung his cutlass down against Ahoy's, sending the much younger, much less experienced fighter staggering backwards. "I've seen better moves from water-logged RATS!"
At that, he pressed his boot against his chest. The sole of his boot turned bright red, and exploded violently, the eruption sending Asahi tumbling backwards with a shout of pain as smoke rose from his armor. Stabbing the anchor blade into the ground to right himself, he began to rise slowly, groaning as he did.
"You ain't exactly cut out for this Ahoy stuff, kid." Akahana boomed as he approached, slowly, fingers clenching and unclenching as he did. "I ain't without mercy though. Back away, give me the belt-" He held his hand out expectantly, and the smile on his face widened. "And I'll let ya live another day."
Asahi stared at the extended hand, breathing heavily, heart hammering in his ears, and he swallowed. All he did was pull his blade out of the ground, and held it in front of him, the tip of it pointed at his face.
"I...am Ahoy..." he said, haltingly. "And I... will not stop...until people...are safe."
Akahana was silent...and then he chuckled. "You got spunk, kid." he laughed. "I'll give you that...but unfortunately for you, Spunk ain't-"
BOOM!
Another explosion rocked the space between the two of them, and while it wasn't enough to floor Akahana, it was enough to give him some space. Asahi, lowering his arms to shield himself from the debris and looked into the crater...
Inside was a Treazure, one bright purple and green, and without even thinking he grabbed it and held it tight in his fist.
"If you're going to survive." Announced the man. "Insert that into the Map Driver and pull the switch. The boost will be useful in helping you fight him off."
"Right!" Asahi took the Ahoy Treazure out and snapped the new one in, and then pressed the button. "Hen...shin!"
The button opened, and the clanging of metal coins echoed in the street around him as the boisterous laugh of the belt suddenly sounded out.
X! MARKS! THE! SPOT! Yar har! Sizzling! Smoking! Poison! VENOM! YAR HAR!
Asahi remained in his dramatic pose, as the wind blew some dust and debris away, suddenly losing steam very quickly. Akahana, meanwhile, looked around in confusion as well, as if expecting something.
"Uh...ship-Kun?" Asahi mumbled. "Nothing happened."
"Well of course nothing happened-to YOU. The Treazures don't enhance you."
The sound of the cannons on the ship suddenly turned their attention down to Akahana with loud, cacophonous clicks as suddenly half the barrels were now aimed at the Blackheart crew member.
"The Treazures enhance me."
And then, they all fired all down at the same time, raining down absolute hell down onto Ahoy's opponent with a flurry of explosions, even as he shouted out in surprise and held his arms up to block the barrage to the best of his abilities. Asahi did notice, however, that the cannonballs weren't gunmetal grey as they usually were, but they were bright purple and green, from what he could see.
Eventually the blitzkrieg ended, and as the smoke cleared, Akahana was standing in the middle of the crater that the attack had created, only looking slightly worse for wear. However, the damage was still happening, which Asahi watched in surprise as the clothes, and skin, on Akahana began to sizzle and smoke as purple splotches of poison clung to him. He looked at his hand and grimaced.
"What...did you do to me, Ahoy!?" Akahana shouted as he tried to wipe it off. "Bringing your ship in to fight, that's dirty, even for you!"
"That would be the Venomshell Treazure." The man told Asahi. "It's capable of melting away incredibly powerful substances, and most importantly, lowers the defense of the target in question. Meaning..."
"Meaning...he's easier to take down!" Asahi realized as he grabbed the Anchor Blade by the handle again. "Great thinking, Boat-san!"
"That is not my name-"
Asahi did not listen, nor did he care, as he jumped into the air and swung his blade down, striking Akahana across the back and causing a shower of sparks to follow. Crying out in pain, Akahana spun around and attempted to swing at him, which Ahoy duck underneath the swing and stab the blade into his stomach, before cutting up into his shoulder. The blow was enough to send him staggering.
Sensing an opportunity, Asahi did not let up his assault. With a series of cries, he cut into Akahana mercilessly, never giving Akahana an opportunity to catch his breath, his rising pitch in anger growing as it did. Each slashing sending sparks off the point of contact, until one slash sent Akahana staggering back, shouting as he fell onto his back.
Disengaging the blade and turning it once more into the Anchor form, he swung it on its chain to gain enough momentum, before he spun around with the rotation and SLAMMED it down onto the pirate with enough force to indent him into the ground.
"What!?" Akahana shouted, as he grabbed the handle of the blade and tried to wrench himself free. "No! NO! I WON'T LOSE TO A GREENHORN LIKE YOU-"
"First time for everything!" Asahi shouted, as he slammed the lid on the Treazure shut, and then clicked the button on the side.
TIME TO WALK THE PLANK! PREPARE THE VOYAGE!
Asahi vanished into the bright blue energy that was quickly absorbed into the massive cannon on the underside of the Legacy.
The man inside the boat waved his hand, and the screen changed from "AMMO" to "RIDER KICK". He slammed his hand on the button. "FIRE!"
Asahi was sent shooting out of the cannon, feet extending outwards into a proper kick. The only thing different this time, however, was the fact he was surrounded by bright purple energy, similar to that of the cannonballs fired earlier.
Akahana, against all odds, managed to pry himself free from the Anchor blade and rise to his feet. Turning his attention to the approaching kick, he gave a loud cry of challenge and swung his fist to meet it...
For what little it did. Asahi's foot collided with the creature's chest and wound up on the other side of Akahana, kneeling as Akahana stood there in stunned silence...before he gave a loud gasp, one final flail, and then he exploded into a mighty fireball, leaving nothing but a busted, destroyed Treazure behind.
"Enjoy your stay in Davy Jones' locker!" Asahi said, as he snapped the blade back into position.
The man in the boat shook his head. "We'll need to work on that."
However, unbeknown to either party, the Akahana Treazure vanished in a cloud of miasma...
...
"Spectacular work out there, Iwatari." Kira nodded her approval as Asahi climbed back up onto the deck of the Legacy, arms crossing. "For a beginner."
"You're so COOL, Asahi!" Jirou grinned as he rushed over and hugged his brother around the waist. "I can't wait to tell everyone my big brother is a SUPERHERO!"
"You are going to be Kamen Rider Ahoy not for praise and not for accolades, but for doing a job." The man said as he floated through the floorboards of the ship, his arms crossed over his chest. "There will be no abusing this power while I am around to reel you in, if need be. You are to find the Treazures." He nodded. "Nothing more."
Kira and Jirou looked at each other for a moment before looking back. "So that means..." Kira began.
"He can stay?" Jirou finished.
His eyes closed, and he inhaled. "He has...proven his use for the time being...I have no reason to take it away from him."
Asahi nodded his head just once as if he understood what was happening...and then he started in surprise. "Wait, you were going to take Ahoy from me!?"
"Another time." The man brushed him off and floated on. "Your first interaction with Akahana was...not as terrible as it could have been. But it does mean the Blackheart Pirates will follow soon after. Gold John has been the most consistent of the members, but now that the others are waking, that proves things will become even more dangerous going forward. You will need to be properly prepared."
"Does that mean he'll be fighting even more enemies, Ship-San-"
"THAT IS ENOUGH." He snapped, his eyes flaring as he stared down at Jirou. "I am not Sail-Kun, Ship-Kun, Ship-San, Vessel-Kun or any of your other obnoxious titles you seem to be SO KEEN on giving me, I am none of those. I AM-"
"Saisho."
That caught him off guard, and he turned to Asahi, the one who spoke. "...What?"
"Saisho." Asahi confirmed. "It means The First. And you've been around since the first Ahoy. So...Saisho."
There was a long silence between the two of them. The newly dubbed "Saisho" could only sigh in annoyance. "If it'll stop these foolish names." He rose. "Then I will be Saisho. It is better than the alternatives."
"Well all right." Asahi smiled a bit and held a hand out. "First step into making friends, I guess. Nice to meet you, Saisho. I'm Asahi."
And for a moment, Saisho was not in front of Asahi anymore. Instead, Saisho was in front of his old friend. Hair whipping in the breeze, hand extended out.
Asahi looked so much like him...
Saisho ignored the extended hand and floated off. "I will alert you once the next Treazure reveals itself. Until then, sleep." He gestured to the side of the boat. "You're no good to me exhausted...Asahi."
Asahi grinned a bit. A little bit of progress was always good. Looking at the other two, he gestured. "Come on. We SHOULD get some rest...two fights in one day are almost too much for me...I'm going to be sore tomorrow."
"Bye, Saisho!" Grinned Jirou as he rushed over to the side of the boat. "See you tomorrow!"
"I look forward to investigating all of your workings, Saisho." Kira explained dispassionately and followed after. And soon after, all three of them were gone.
Saisho stood in the center of the deck, closing his eyes and basking in the silence...before he wordlessly took the boat up into the sky again, away from prying eyes.
...
"That was Ahoy?"
"That was Ahoy."
The man stood beside the girl in the coral green dress as he stepped out from one of the Alleyways, looking around at the destruction of the street. "He seems...powerful."
"Not as powerful as you, my dear." She smiled as she approached him. "If you follow what I say, then he will not be a problem..."
The man stared around for a moment; his eyes dull, silent as he took in the damage. "So." he said, again, after a pause. "He's what's stopping me...from gaining these?"
He held up a Treazure. It was blue and green, but more ornate than the ones Asahi had been using. A hook on the front held the chest shut.
"Indeed. Destroy him...and all the Treazure will be yours." She smiled.
The man stared at the chest...he pressed the button, and the front of it popped open. The only thing that came out of it was a deep, snarling growl.
KEELHAUL...
"Fine." he said, as a smirk started to cross his lips. "Then let's raise the sail."
...
Next time on Kamen Rider Ahoy!
"There's been another Treazure sighting."
"Kira, are you okay?"
"Do I even have a purpose on this ship...?"
"You're on my crew, everyone has a purpose!"
"Time to earn your keep."

"Wait, who's that?"
"Time to walk the plank, Ahoy."
