Chapter 2: Summer Race

Agent BM: Thx

When the last day of school finally came around, the kids were squirming in their seats.

"Only 15 minutes until we get our freedom." said Liam.

"I can't wait." Zack piped up.

The clock continued to slowly tick, until it finally got on the right time. The final bell rang, and all the students hurried out of their classrooms.

"Finally, we have three months of no homework, tests, or projects." Lincoln told his friends.

"It's going to be great." Clyde replied.

"What do you say we should go out and celebrate." suggested Bessie.

"Good idea, Bessie." complimented Stella.

"Okay, after everyone drops off their backpacks meet at Gus' Games and Grub." Lincoln told.

Then the kids went their separate ways to go home.

After dropping off her backpack, Bessie asked her mom to drop her off with her friends. Luckily, Brittany had some errands to do around that area so she'd be able to drop Bessie off and pick her up later.

So they drove to Gus' Games and Grub, and Brittany dropped Bessie off.

"You have fun, Bessie."

"Thanks, Mom."

And Bessie wheeled herself inside, and saw some of her friends were already there.

"Hey, guys." she greeted.

"Glad you made it, Bessie." said Rusty.

"This is a great way to celebrate the last day of school."

After everyone else arrived, their fun began. They ate pizza and drank soda, and played games. While Bessie was playing a first person shooter game, something caught her eye. It was a poster advertising some sort of event.

When she finished playing her game, she wheeled herself over to the wall and looked at the poster. Reading it, she saw that it was for a walk a thon race. It was to raise money for cerebral palsy awareness.

She took the poster off the wall, and brought over to her friends.

"Hey guys, look at this." she called.

She put it on the table, and showed it.

"A race?" asked Liam.

"Looks pretty interesting." observed Lincoln.

"It takes place in July, and it starts in Royal Woods, and ends in Great Lakes City." Bessie read.

"That's like 300 miles." Clyde piped up.

"Well at least it's for a good cause." Lincoln said.

As the kids continued their fun, Bessie continued to think about the race. So much so, that she stuck the poster in her backpack.

Back at home, Bessie had dinner with her parents.

"So how was your outing with your friends, Bessie?" asked Brittany.

"Yeah, Mom."

"Well now that you're out of school, any ideas what you're gonna do?" Leon wondered.

"I don't know, but I did find this."

She pulled out the poster from her backpack, and showed it to her parents.

"Oh, a walk from Royal Woods to Great Lakes City? Oh that sounds interesting." Brittany observed.

"You think you may want to watch this?" asked Leon.

"I don't know yet."

Before going to bed, Bessie looked up the race on her computer. It turned out that the race started at Flip's, and ended in Great Lakes City at some kind of market. Along the way, there were rest stops at hotels and it was all paid for.

She then looked at the ages of the participants, and to her surprise there were some kids in the walk a thon. That made her think, could she be in that race?

The next day, she decided to play with Baxter. In the backyard, Bessie threw his red ball around Baxter chased it.

"Good boy, Baxter." Bessie said.

Baxter squealed, as he brought the ball back.

"(Giggles), sometimes you're like a dog."

As she threw the ball again, she thought about the race. That race sounded like something fun, something exciting, and maybe something she could do. When Baxter came back with the ball, Bessie patted his head.

"You think I should do this race, boy?" Baxter squealed at her.

"You think so, huh?"

With that, she wheeled herself into the house. She called her parents, and told them she had something to discuss with them.

"You want to take part in this walk a thon race?" asked Brittany.

"I've been thinking about it." Bessie replied.

"Well, it's definitely a challenge, but what are the age limits?" Leon wondered.

"I looked up that online, and it turns out they allow minors 12 and older."

The two looked at each other.

"Well Bessie, we'll think about it. But make sure this is something you really want to do." Brittany told her sternly.

"I'll think about it more."

Then Bessie decided to take a walk with Baxter in order to be able to think more.

As the two walked down the sidewalk they ran into Lincoln and Clyde.

"Hi guys." she greeted.

"Hey, Bessie, Baxter." they greeted back.

"What are you guys doing here?"

"We're on our way to visit our grandparents at Sunset Canyon." Clyde told her.

"What are you guys doing out here?" Lincoln asked.

Bessie explained to them how she was thinking about joining that walk a thon.

"Sounds like a great idea." Lincoln told her.

"I know, but I'm not sure if I can."

"Come on, Bessie. You could do it." encouraged Clyde.

"My parents said they'd support me if I do it. But I need to make sure I want to do this."

"Well do you?"

"I just need to do some more thinking."

"Why don't you come with us? It'll probably help you make a decision." Lincoln offered.

Bessie smiled and accepted. And off they all went.

At Sunset Canyon Bessie met Lincoln's Pop Pop and Gran Gran and Clyde's Nana. They were very nice, and they even told stories from their youth. Hearing stories of all the things they did, made Bessie think.

They did all kinds of fun things when they were young, and now they had these great stories to tell. It was then Bessie made her decision. She would enter the walk a thon.
