Coming Together

Previously on Ghostwriter:

"Ghostwriter? How are you doing that, Dad?" Jade asked.

"It's not me," Alex said to Jade. "it's Ghostwriter."

"Ghostwriter, what a trip!" Jade said.

Alex found it all too familiar.

"You sound just like me when I was your age." Alex chuckled.

"Um, hi Ghostwriter." Jade said.

Alex chuckled, "He can't hear or talk out loud like we do you have to write to him." he explained.

"How do you know all of this, Dad?" Jade asked.

Alex smiled, and reaching under his jacket he pulled out the pen that was on the cord around his neck.

"Because, he wrote to me when I was around your age," Alex said. "he put together a team of kids called the Ghostwriter team who solved real mysteries in the neighborhood and I, your mother, and Aunt Gaby were all members of the team."

"Do you think he's starting up another team?" Jade asked, perking up and the mention of solving mysteries.

"He could be," said Alex, "why don't you write to him and find out?"

Jade grabbed a pen and strung the cap around a cord, put it around her neck, and began to write to Ghostwriter.

The next day, the entire Ghostwriter team met up at Jamal's house for Thanksgiving dinner.

When the dessert course came, Ghostwriter appeared to Tuan Junor through the whipped cream on his pecan pie.

Now on Ghostwriter:

Two months after Thanksgiving, Elizabeth, Jade, 11-year-old Andrew Nguyen-Fernandez, Jade's younger brother, and Jade and Andrew's 5-year-old maternal cousin, TJ were on their way to school.

When suddenly, Andrew saw something weird in the sky.

"What is that?" Andrew asked.

Elizabeth and Jade were looking in the direction that Andrew was pointing in.

There were words in the sky.

The message read: Andrew Nguyen- Fernandez, justice believer.

"It's Ghostwriter." Jade explained.

"Ghostwriter? Are you kidding with me?" Andrew asked Jade.

"No, I'm not kidding with you." Jade replied to Andrew.

"Well, how does this thing communicate?" Andrew asked.

"Ghostwriter can't hear or talk the way we do," Elizabeth answered Andrew. "whatever you want to say to him, you need to write it down."

"I see." Andrew said.

Just then, the group stopped at Washington Elementary School where TJ had kindergarten and Andrew had fifth grade.

"See you boys after school!" Elizabeth called.

Elizabeth and Jade walked on to Hurston Middle School.

Where Jade had the most unfortunate run in with Calvin Hall-Ferguson Junior.

"Hey, Babe, where were you from Thanksgiving to New Year's?" Calvin asked Jade in a flirtatious manner.

"I was with my family and friends, Calvin! Do you always have to know where I am?" Jade countered out of irritation.

"Come on, Jade, we will be late for homeroom if we don't hurry." Elizabeth said.

Elizabeth grabbed Jade by the hand and the two girls raced to their home classroom.

Over at Washington Elementary, the twins of Gaby Fernandez and Rob Baker were in art class making baby shower invites because they were hoping their family would even up with one more girl so 10-year-old Anastasia wouldn't be the only daughter in the family.

When suddenly, the words on their invites went haywire.

"Whoa! What's wrong here?" Anastasia, the oldest of the twins asked.

Bradford looked at his own invitation.

"I don't know! But it is weirding me out!" Bradford agreed.

Ghostwriter: Don't be afraid, Anastasia and Bradford, write to me.
