A man is sitting at a desk, going through different jars full of chemicals. He picks up one jar, "...and calcium carbonate." He lowers the jar. "Yes, that's all of them."
"Excellent."
The man looks over his shoulder, as someone in the shadows approaches.
"Then, Mr. Jalome Beacher, we're prepared for when the final step comes?" the approaching person asks.
"We are," the man, Jalome, turns to face Mister Negative, as he steps out of the shadows.
"We have the paper, and now we have the ink," Mister Negative holds up a hand. "All that remains is the printing plates, then I will make my mark in the criminal underworld. And my Inner Demons will be unstoppable."
"Parallel Evolution"
In the school hallway, Peter is looking at a copy of the Daily Bugle, reading the headlight "Lincoln Arrested, Theft Hit the Bank" with the byline "Robbie Robertson".
"The Big Man is behind bars where he belongs, but some of the currency papers are still missing," Peter walks through the hallway, unknowingly passing Gwen as she turns a corner into the hall. "Not to mention, Mister Negative is still out there." Peter is walking toward the front entrance. "Guess no rest for web crawlers."
Gwen sees Peter and starts to approach him, with a hand out, before she stops herself, as Peter walks through the doors, going outside.
Gwen sighs.
Mister Negative and a couple Inner Demons, one male and one female, are walking through a long tunnel.
"So, we got the paper and we got the ink," the female Inner Demon starts. "But how we're gonna steal the printing plates?"
"Where can we even find something like that?" the male Inner Demon asks.
Mister Negative snickers, "So much for modern education." He looks over his shoulder. "The printing plates are used by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, located in Washington, DC and Fort Worth, Texas."
Mister Negative starts to climb a ladder up to a trapdoor, "And I've already sent operatives to the DC location."
Mister Negative pushes open the trapdoor and climbs into a large room with a huge printing press and several Inner Demons are working around.
"Mister Negative."
As the two Inner Demons climb out of the trapdoor, Mister Negative turns and smiles, "Ah, they have already returned."
The male and female Inner Demons turn and nearly jump back as they see Kraven and Scorpion approaching.
"First that vampire at the jewelry store, now this," the male Inner Demon whispers.
"Quiet," the female Inner Demon whispers to him.
"Admittedly, I would've sent the Enforcers, who are more lowkey," Mister Negative says. "But I didn't release them again for fear of exposure. Though since you are held in a different part of the Vault, it shouldn't be too much of an issue."
"Speaking of which, how did you organize ours… early release?" Scorpion asks.
"It's…" Mister Negative starts. "A secret."
A prison guard opens a cell door to find Kraven inside.
"What is the meaning of this?" Kraven approaches the door.
The guard, whose eyes are glowing a black aura, "Mister Negative has a need of your services."
The prison guard approaches Mister Negative in a dark alley.
"Kraven and Scorpion had been released," the guard reports. "And awaiting your orders."
"Good work," Mister Negative says, before placing a hand on the guard's shoulder, with the guard's eyes glowing a tad bit more. "Now, return to your station. With no memories of the past two hours."
The guard nods his head, then turns to leave, as Mister Negative grins.
"Doesn't matter," Scorpion takes a step forward. "I am grateful for being released and having my suit repaired, but what reason do I have to stay around?"
"Yes, I'm for one, have a hunt to complete," Kraven clenches a fist.
"It's simple, my 'friends'," Mister Negative starts. "I can promise you a chance to deal with the same bug that had previously placed you both in prison in the first place."
The male and female Inner Demons look at each other.
Outside the high school, Mary Jane is sitting by herself, reading a book, when Gwen sits down next to her, and sighs heavily.
Mary Jane grins at Gwen, before closing her book, "Something on your mind, Ms. Stacy?"
"I-I just not sure anymore," Gwen says.
"About what, need I ask?" Mary Jane asks.
"I've been keeping my distance from Peter, to avoid talking about me and him," Gwen starts. "But now he seemed to be avoiding me. And I'm still not sure about Harry."
"Well, you know how I feel about the entire matter," Mary Jane tells her.
"I just… I almost feel like I need a second opinion," Gwen says.
"Then get a second opinion, perhaps someone older with more experience," Mary Jane suggests.
"Someone older?" Gwen responds. "I don't know. My mom is… gone, and my father might not be the best person to talk to about boys."
A newspaper blows through the air and lands against Gwen's legs, "Huh?"
Gwen picks up the newspaper, seeing it's a Daily Bugle, "Maybe… Maybe I can talk to her…?"
Mary Jane tilts her head at Gwen.
Spider-Man web swings through the city, "Aww man, I can't just web sling all over, looking for a lead. There gotta be a better way to find Mister Negative or an Inner Demon."
He swings around a building and continues web swinging, "Perhaps Robbie heard something. I just hope Jameson is out of the office."
Spider-Man fires a webline when his spider sense goes off, before he is tackled in midair by Kraven, with both crashes through a billboard and lands on a roof. Kraven starts to get up, with Spider-Man fires a webline, pulls himself to the top of an air conditioner and turns to see his attacker.
"Kraven?" Spider-Man responds. "Was there any point in testing the Vault's security?"
"No cement wall or gilded cage will stop me from hunting down the one prey that had eluded me," Kraven tells him.
"I don't know if I should be flatter or disturbed," Spider-Man says. "But I am busy, so how about you just turn yourself in?"
"Nyet," Kraven prepares his claws.
"Yeah, I didn't think so," Spider-Man says, as Kraven charges him.
Spider-Man jumps up as Kraven strikes at the air conditioner. In midair, Spider-Man fires a webline at Kraven's back and pulls himself down, punches Kraven in the back of the head.
Spider-Man, standing on Kraven's back, fires weblines at Kraven's arms and tries to pull them back, "I always wanted to join the rodeo. Yippe ki…!"
Kraven pulls his arms forward, flipping Spider-Man over his head. Spider-Man lands on his feet and turns to see Kraven grabs him with both arms, trying to squeeze him.
"I… can do without… the Russian lion hug…" Spider-Man struggles, before he manages to free one of his arms, fires a webline at the damaged billboard, pulls on the line to pull off a piece of the billboard and slams it against Kraven's back.
"It's gonna take more than that to stop Kraven the Hunter," Kraven continues to squeeze his arms, as Spider-Man struggles.
"Thanks for the notes," Spider-Man manages to free his other arm and fires two weblines over Kraven's back, then pulls on them.
Hearing a loud noise, Kraven looks over his shoulder, as he sees the air conditioner, guided by two weblines, fly toward him.
Meanwhile, down on the street, a blonde male teenager, standing next to a red motorcycle with a helmet on the seat, has a hand against a building's wall, in front of a slightly older red-haired woman.
"There's this new club I've been dying to check out," the blonde teenager suggests. "Could be fun."
"No thanks, I need to study or I won't get into my dream college," the woman tells him.
The teenager sighs, "C'mon, I've been stuck inside for weeks, bored out of my mind." The woman rolls her eyes. "Besides, there's more to life than studying." The woman gives him a look, causing the teenager to back up slightly. "Okay, okay, if clubbing is not your scene, then how about something more romantic. Like going to the zoo…?"
Suddenly Kraven crashes onto a car, causing the two to turn to the sight, as Kraven starts to stand and looks up.
"Or the zoo can come to us," the teenager says to himself, before he glances over his shoulder to see the woman running away.
The teenager looks back ahead, before looking up to the sound of web slinging.
"How about that, Kraven ol' boy?" Spider-Man mocking asks, as he swings down. "Did a five story drop stop you?"
"No, but it did anger me," Kraven says, before he leaps up.
"Great, the science fair reject hunter is now angry," Spider-Man fires a line to the side and pulls to dodge Kraven, but he manages to grab Spider-Man by the ankle.
In mid air, Kraven spins and throws Spider-Man, slamming him against the crushed car.
"I agree, Kraven, not a good time," Spider-Man jokes, before he backflips out of the way of Kraven slamming his fists down onto the car.
"Hey Simba!"
Kraven turns to see the teenager, wearing the helmet, aimed the motorcycle toward him, with the bike's high beam almost blinding Kraven.
"What's this?" Kraven holds up a hand to try and block the light.
"It's a distraction," the teenager says.
Kraven looks surprised, then looks to the side to see Spider-Man web swings toward him and kicks Kraven.
Kraven lands hard on the ground, before he looks up to see Spider-Man falling down with a ready fist. Kraven rolls out of the way, as Spider-Man punches the ground.
Kraven stands straight, "This hunt will resume, spider, on my terms."
Kraven leaps up and starts to climb up the side of a building.
The teenager drives his motorcycle over, turns off the high beam, and then removes his helmet, "That's ominous."
"Hum, thanks, for the help," Spider-Man approaches the teeanger.
"No mention it, besides, you were getting your webs handed to you," the teenager says, leaning on his handlebars.
"Right…" Spider-Man says, annoyingly, then looks up at the building that Kraven was on. "Listen, you better head on home."
The teenager watches as Spider-Man fires a web line and swings over the same building.
The teenager grins, "Going home, yeah right."
He puts his helmet back on and starts to drive in the same direction.
Gwen gets off an elevator and finds herself in the Daily Bugle's bullpen. She walks past a couple people, before noticing a desk with the name tag: Betty Brant. She looks up to see Betty sitting at her desk.
"I didn't realize she's so pretty…" Gwen says, before shaking her head. "Focus, Gwen."
Gwen approaches, "Excuse me, Ms. Brant." Betty looks away from her desk to her. "My name is Gwen, I'm a friend of Peter."
"Peter's friend?" Betty asks. "Peter Parker?"
"Yeah, he mentioned he was gonna take you to the Fall Formal last year," Gwen says.
"Oh yeah, that was a big mistake," Betty admits.
"A mistake?"
"Don't get me wrong, Peter's a great guy and all, but there was an age difference between us," Betty tells her, before noticing Ned is pouring himself a cup of coffee. "Besides, it was for the best."
Gwen looks over her shoulder at Ned.
"So, how may I help you?" Betty asks, with Gwen looking back to her.
"Oh, I-I know you're very busy, there really isn't an older woman who can I ask for advice, but I'm conflicted about my feelings for Peter and… and another boy," Gwen says, before lowering her head. "I'm sorry, this was a mistake. You wouldn't care about some teen drama…"
Gwen looks up as Betty stands up and looks away, "Ned, if someone asks, I went on my lunch break early."
Gwen looks ahead, surprised.
Outside the Daily Bugle, Betty and Gwen are turning away from a hot dog stand, with their hot dogs.
"I just don't know what to do, Ms. Brant," Gwen says, before taking a bite of her hot dog.
"Please, Gwen, just call me Betty," Betty takes her own bite. "Now… about this boy you're dating…?"
"Harry," Gwen starts. "He's a great guy, and he's been through a lot, but… but I still have feelings for Peter. I've liked him since we're little. But I might've pushed him away too much."
Gwen is about to take another bite of her hot dog but she stops herself, "Argh, I just wish I had a normal life."
Betty laughs slightly, with Gwen stares at her, "Sorry, sorry, didn't mean to laugh, but Gwen, you do have a normal life."
"Normal? A few months ago, my high school was invaded by a supervillain," Gwen starts. "And my spring break field trip was interrupted by mercenaries and a dinosaur man. Some normal."
"Unfortunately, that is becoming a normal part of life," Betty says. "A few months apart, the Daily Bugle had been invaded by a rhino man and a jungle man with a pet lion."
"Last Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve, I was kidnapped by supervillains," Gwen adds. "The first supervillain's also the one who invaded my school."
"Okay, maybe your life might be a tad bit abnormal," Betty says. "But you shouldn't let anything get in the way of your happiness. Even if you have to break a few hearts along the way."
Gwen lowers her hot dog slightly, and looks down.
On a warehouse's roof, Kraven opens a window then jumps inside.
Nearby, Spider-Man is sticking to the side of a smokestack, watching, "Supervillains and their warehouse hideouts."
Spider-Man fires a webline and swings over to the warehouse's roof. Spider-Man opens a window and climbs onto the rafters, as he sees the large printing press, a couple Inner Demons, and stacks of paper on shelves.
"This is unexpected, Kraven joined the Inner Demons?" Spider-Man looks around.
His spider sense goes off, before Spider-Man looks to the side to see Scorpion swings his tail and barely knocks him off the rafters, with Spider-Man lands on the floor.
"Scorpy?" Spider-Man watches as Scorpion lands on the floor. "I don't know what's worse, the Vault's revolving door, or that the Inner Demons would accept anyone."
"This partnership is only a means to an end," Scorpion tells him, before charging. "Yours!"
"Very original line," Spider-Man flips over Scorpion's tail swing, before fires a webline and pulls himself into a kick. "Did you read 'Supervillain Lines for Dum-Dums'?"
Scorpion swings an arm, knocking Spider-Man back.
"How this for originality?" Scorpion says, before firing a laser beam from its tail.
Spider-Man dodges, with the laser beam blasting the ground next to the male and female Inner Demons.
"Hey, watch the collateral damage!" the male Inner Demon complains.
"You said something to me!" Scorpion calls out.
"Oh, hum, no, nothing at all, sir," the male Inner Demon backs up.
Spider-Man is hanging upside down from the rafters by a webline, behind Scorpion, "Wow, not much of a team player."
Scorpion doesn't move, but grins, "Not my team."
Spider-Man's spider sense goes off, before Kraven leaps from the rafters at him, as Spider-Man just barely swings out of the way, with a small tear in his suit's arm.
Spider-Man lands on the floor, before noticing his arm, "Hey, watch it, fixing this suit isn't cheap, not to mention my arm."
"You have bigger issues," Kraven says.
Spider-Man then notices several Inner Demons are aiming laser guns at him, "Oh, I see what you mean."
"This is getting kind of heavy, huh?" The male Inner Demon takes a step back, before noticing the female Inner Demon is looking away. "What is it?"
"Do you hear… a motor?" the female Inner Demon asks.
Suddenly, the teenager on his motorcycle bursts through the warehouse's front entrance and slams his motorcycle against Kraven, as the teeanger jumps off, allowing the motorcycle and Kraven to crash against a wall. Several of the Inner Demons jump back or are knocked back.
"Whoa, that was awesome!" the teenager stands up, bumping his fists, as Spider-Man lands next to him.
"What are you doing here?" Spider-Man asks.
The teenager looks at him, "I realized that you were swinging into a trap. Are you glad I followed along?"
"I knew it was a trap," Spider-Man explains. "But I had to follow Kraven. I knew it was the best way to get to the bottom of his attack!"
"Ooooh…" the teenager responds.
"Enough!"
Spider-Man pushes the teenager out of the way, before he jumps up to dodge Scorpion's tail slam.
"I don't need any help to squash you!" Scorpion yells, as he fires a laser beam at Spider-Man, who dodges, with the laser cutting through a rafter beam.
"Infuriating piece of scrap!" Kraven lifts the motorcycle over his head and throws it, slamming it against the printing press, breaking off a piece of it, with sparks going off and a fire starting.
"Talk about an unhappy camper," the teenager says.
"Perhaps we should secure the escape route?" the female Inner Demon suggests.
"Reading my mind," the male Inner Demon agrees.
The male Inner Demon opens the trapdoor and jumps down, with the female Inner Demon jumping in after him, allowing the trapdoor to close.
At that moment, Mister Negative enters from another room, "What's going on here?!" He sees the fire, then sees Scorpion chasing Spider-Man across the rafters. He gets angry, "First the Enforcers, now this… No longer let the hired help determine the sites for their traps."
Spider-Man jumps off the rafters and lands on top of the printing press, "Wow, Scorpy, is it just me or has your aim gotten worse."
"Hold still and find out!" Scorpion, standing on the rafters, fires a laser beam from his tail.
"Nah," Spider-Man flips out of the way, allowing the laser beam to cut off a piece of the printing press.
"No!" Mister Negative calls out.
Spider-Man fires a webline at the piece of the press, then spins through the air and launches it at Scorpion, knocking him off the rafter, slamming him against a wall, and then falls down, unconscious.
"Mister Negative," an Inner Demon approaches Mister Negative with a long case.
"Collect what hadn't been destroyed and retreat to base one," Mister Negative instructs, as he opens the case, revealing a sword, then takes it out. He looks at the sword, as it glows with black energy. "If you want something done right, do it yourself."
Spider-Man lands and sees Mister Negative with the sword, "Mister Negative, I presume?" He notices the glowing sword. "Let me guess, 'engarde'?"
"I prefer, gōngjí!" Mister Negative swings the sword, sending a wave of dark energy.
Spider-Man flips over the energy wave, "Guess Mister Negative isn't just a pseudonym." In midair, he fires a webline and pulls himself over to Mister Negative, barely dodging a sword strike. "Normally, I would geek out over the use of negative charged photons that you are producing." He bounces off a wall and launches a punch, which Mister Negative catches with his free hand. "But first you are gonna pay for ruining a good man's life."
Spider-Man pulls his fist free, but Mister Negative kicks him away.
"You need to narrow it down!" Mister Negative stabs the floor with the sword, sending out a large blast of dark energy, knocking Spider-Man back.
Kraven is chasing the teenager through the warehouse, "You gonna pay for your interference."
"Left my wallet at home, gonna have to own you," the teenager mocks.
"You're nothing but a Spider-Man lite," Kraven complains.
The teenager slides into a turn, with Kraven accidentally sliding against a wall, before the fire spreads and separates them.
The teenager smirks, "Oh, I'm my own flavor."
Mister Negative swings his sword, launching an energy wave, with Spider-Man flips back, barely dodging as the energy wave flies under him.
Spider-Man lands and fires two weblines, "You shouldn't pay with such sharp toys."
The weblines hit Mister Negative, but he cuts through them with his sword, "You won't web me, ya' bug."
"Then I won't," Spider-Man fires a webline high above, hitting the shelves of papers, before he pulls and knocks the shelf and all its papers onto Mister Negative, burying him.
"Ah, rock paper scissors does work," Spider-Man jokes.
A blast of dark energy blows through the shelves and papers, with Mister Negative standing up, breathing heavily.
"The Big Man's biggest mistake… was he didn't eliminate you on day one…" Mister Negative holds up his sword. "I won't make the same mistake."
The fire continues to spread throughout the warehouse, before Mister Negative swings his sword, launching a dark energy wave. Spider-Man webs up to the rafters, dodging the energy wave.
Kraven, sweating heavily, takes a step back, looking around, before he sees the teenager on the other side of a small wall of fire. Kraven takes a step before, before he stops and looks at his hands.
"Kraven the Hunter won't go down in a sea of flames," Kraven says, before he looks ahead.
Kraven then turns around and jumps through a wall, blowing a hole through it and running off.
Mister Negative takes a step back, before he sees the hole through the fire, "Unbelievable. Kraven's a coward and Scorpion's a failure."
"You really should work on your hiring requirements," Spider-Man mockingly says, on the rafters.
Mister Negative tightens his grip on his sword, "This endeavor might fail, but my criminal empire will rise!"
Mister Negative holds his sword straight up, shooting a blast of dark energy right through the roof.
"Whoa!" Spider-Man jumps off the rafter, flips and lands on the ground, before he watches Mister Negative, as pieces of the roof come down and he disappears behind the smoke and fire. "Next time."
Spider-Man fires a webline and swings to the opposite end of the room, he fires a webline at the unconscious Scorpion, pulls him away and launches him through the hole in the wall.
Spider-Man grabs the teenager as he swings past, "Time to go, hero boy."
Spider-Man, with the teenager, swings through the hole, as the roof continues to come down.
At the Daily Bugle, Robbie enters Jameson's office, who is looking at a newspaper.
"Jonah, the write up for the next edition's headline had been sent to your computer," Robbie says.
"Glad to see the police's inquisition is done," Jameson says.
"The police just had some questions for me, that's all," Robbie says.
"Speaking of which, congratulations on the article," Jameson holds up the newspaper. "Most people won't be able to come clean about something that could be so damaging."
Robbie smiles, "I'm not sure about that. I have no doubt you would be able to do the same."
Robbie leaves the office.
Jameson quietly says, "Yeah…"
Jameson places the newspaper on his desk, next to another newspaper with the heading "NASA Tight Lip on Mystery Shuttle Crash".
He then looks at his computer, which reads the headline: "Ryker Investigates Inmates Escape", with pictures of Scorpion and Kraven below the headline.
Jameson focuses his eyes on Scorpion's picture.
Inside an alleyway, Kraven watches as firefighters are using their hoses to put out the fire at the nearly demolished warehouse.
Hearing the sounds of drums, Kraven turns to see Calypso approaching him, "My love…"
Kraven looks at his hand, before looking back at the fire, "I start to believe I have gone off my proper path." He turns and starts to approach Calypso. "It's time for a return to the basics."
At the Osborn penthouse, Emily is walking through the foyer, talking on her Osberry.
"What is missing?!" Emily angrily says to her phone. "You know what will happen to you if those are stolen? Just find out what happened!" Emily hangs up her phone, as Harry approaches.
"Mom, what's going on?" Harry asks.
"Now now, Harry," Emily angrily says.
"But mom…" Harry starts.
Emily inhales, calming herself, "I mean… not now, dear."
Harry stops himself.
Emily looks over her shoulder, "Now, I need some privacy to make an important call."
Harry watches as Emily walks away, "Oh… okay…"
Harry's Osberry phone then rings, with him pulling it out of his pocket and sees a text message from Gwen: "We need to talk".
Harry stands outside Gwen's house front door.
"No, not behind Harry's back or Liz's," Gwen's heard saying.
"Right, right," Peter's heard saying. "We… we have to break it off with them first."
Harry looks disappointed.
Harry looks away from his phone's screen, then grins.
Gwen is sitting on a bus, when her smart phone rings, which she picks up and sees a text message from Harry: "Later All the news about gangs remind me of what GOBULIN GREEN made my dad do".
Gwen looks surprised.
At the cemetery, Harry hugs Gwen.
"I don't know what I'd do without you, Gwen," Harry starts. "You're all that's keeping me from going back on the Green myself."
Gwen lowers her phone, before looking out the bus window, saddened.
The teenager removes his helmet and watches from across the street, as a couple cops are loading an unconscious Scorpion into the back of a police van, as the firefighters continue to put out the warehouse fire.
"Crazy, how fast that fire grew," Spider-Man hangs upside down from a lamppost by a webline, behind the teenager.
"Yeah, crazy," the teenager says, as he turns to face Spider-Man.
"I want to say, thanks again for your help," Spider-Man says. "But that was very reckless."
"I have always been reckless, at least that's what my sister says," the teeanger rubs the back of his head.
Spider-Man releases the webline and sticks to the side of the lamppost, "You should watch that." He gets ready to shoot a webline, but stops himself and looks at the teenager. "It just hit me, I don't know your name."
The teenager smirks, "The name's Johnny."
"Maybe I'll see you around, Johnny," Spider-Man fires a webline and swings away.
Johnny's smartphone rings, before he takes it out of his pocket, looks at the screen, and sighs, before answering the phone, "Hey sis… Yes, I know, I'm sorry for leaving without telling anyone, Sue." He looks away. "Yeah, I'm on my way back." He snaps his fingers, creating a small ember.
A trap door opens in a back room, with Mister Negative climbs out, followed by a couple Inner Demons, including the male and female Inner Demons, as they enter a closed Chinese restaurant.
"As for master plans, that one fell apart quickly," the male Inner Demon says to the female Inner Demon.
Mister Negative stops walking and turns to the Inner Demons, staring at them for a moment, before speaking, "Let me set something straight here. We are far from done. I will, the Inner Demons will rise up to the top of the criminal underworld, and no one will stop us!"
Suddenly, a large explosion goes off, ripping a hole in the roof and knocks everyone off their feet.
Mister Negative picks up his sword, returns to his feet and turns to look up, seeing through the smoke-filled hole a figure is floating in the air.
"Who dares to attack me!" Mister Negative yells.
"Mmhm, I never actually come up with a name," the figure starts to float through the smoke. "But one does come to mind. Though it is quite a deviation, it does suit."
The figure emerges from the smoke, revealing they are standing on a goblin-head glider, wearing an orange and blue costume with a hood and cape, and a light yellow goblin mask, "Hobgoblin. HAHAHAHAHA!"
