"The dinner was good," InuYasha mentioned while walking next to Kagome, wrapping her cold fingers in his hand to warm them up. The snow had ceased, and the air remained chilly and fresh in a way only winter can achieve.
"Yes, good." The tone Kagome used when speaking was neutral and completely devoid of emotion.
InuYasha didn't miss the slowness with which she responded, and it wasn't the first time she'd done so since they first met. It seemed strange to him; Kagome appeared uncomfortable about something, and he couldn't figure out what.
"Is something wrong?" He decided it was best to ask the standard question, although it was rarely answered on the first try. This was part of what InuYasha had learned about Kagome in the time he had known her. At his words, she looked at him with an expression very similar to that of a child caught sneaking a handful of sweets into their pocket. That thought almost made him laugh.
"No, why do you ask?" She hurried to respond, breaking eye contact immediately after.
InuYasha let out a soft sound of amusement, confirming that indeed, that was how Kagome handled these situations.
"You've been very quiet," he insisted.
"Oh, I'm sorry," she apologized with the same lack of emotion as before. "Maybe I'm tired from today's work."
InuYasha responded to her words with a nod that was more speculative than anything else. He couldn't help but be filled with questions about Kagome's behavior. The previous night had been full of a passion that was still lingering, resonating in his body, and it was likely that the few hours of sleep and the workday had exhausted her. However, he couldn't avoid the occasional haunting thought of her leaving him, a thought that hadn't left his mind. He was troubled by the fact that Kagome hadn't considered talking to him before taking a job that would increase the distance between them. And InuYasha found himself often having to appeal to his more rational side to remind himself that Kagome did not belong to him, no matter how much he loved her. And perhaps it was precisely because of that love that he couldn't claim any ownership over her.
He squeezed her hand a little tighter, the one that kept them connected. His rational side didn't understand why his heart wanted to have her, like now, always by his side. He looked at her as they walked, taking in her image, rosy from the cold of the night. He wanted to know how similar her love was to the one he felt for her; however, that was something that couldn't be measured with a question.

There's something I really enjoy about the InuKag couple in IZON; they are very human. Their conflicts are part of their personal growth. I adore them
