InuYasha remained in the dark, lying on the sofa in the small living room of his apartment. The early hours had started a while ago, but he still couldn't fall asleep; it had fled from him earlier, scared, during a strange moment with Kagome. He didn't know how they had reached this point, or maybe he did.
Sex with her always seemed worth an anthology, and InuYasha used absolutism without hesitation in this regard. Kagome was a passionate and imaginative partner, and besides, he loved her. He enjoyed her company both when they gave in to passion and when they shared a less effusive intimacy, although these latter moments were rare in comparison. Perhaps that was the problem: they rarely talked deeply about each other. The time they used to spend together was short, and they turned it into pleasant, perhaps too trivial, moments.
Tonight, after returning from dinning at a new place for Kagome in the city, she had been receptive to the kisses and caresses he began when they sat on this same sofa. However, there was a certain systematic way of responding that felt strange and cold to him. He tried to think it was just a perception. Nevertheless, when he began to seek nakedness for both of them, Kagome stopped him.
" Wait, I need to go to the bedroom for a moment," she had apologized.
Of course, he understood, especially since his own arousal was lacking compared to other moments shared. What he didn't expect was for her to take long enough for the desire to cool down. That feeling made him sad.
After that, Kagome did not return to the sofa. She looked at him from the bedroom door, holding in one hand the nightgown with a white bunny on the chest and a toothbrush in the other.
" Shall we go to bed? I'm tired," were her next words.
InuYasha watched her intently, noticing the knot forming in his stomach. He wanted to ask what was happening once more, but he could guess the answer he would receive.
" Alright, I'll be there in a moment," he had said and tried to smile without succeeding.
He thought that by the next day everything would be better, and by then, the unease he was experiencing would be a memory. However, despite the hours that had passed, he still couldn't fall asleep.
InuYasha sighed, stood up, and took a bottle of sake from a kitchen cabinet. He poured a couple of fingers into a glass and drank it in one gulp. He poured the same amount of liquor into the glass again and put the bottle away. He approached the bedroom, and the dim light from a lamp in the living room allowed him to see Kagome asleep and curled up due to the cold night. InuYasha approached the bed, drank the contents of the glass, and took a blanket to the sofa.
