Chapter 4 Monsters in the Village!

Today was my second day in Phoenix Drop. After I woke up, I went downstairs, where Sylvana had made breakfast for us. It tasted very nice.

Once we were done eating, Sylvana helped me get dressed and did my hair. Once that was all done, I decided to head into the village and look for Aaron. When I found him, he was talking to two people I had never seen before.

After walking through the village for a bit, Aphmau spotted Aaron and Garroth.

"Aaron, Garroth", she called out, before running up to them. "Good morning!"

"Good morning, Ms Aphmau", Garroth greeted.

"Morning", Aaron greeted.

"Why hello there, Ms", one of the people that Aaron was just talking to greeted. "I don't think I've ever seen you around the village before?"

"Brenden, this is Ms Aphmau", Garroth revealed. "She's someone Aaron found in the woods. Aphmau, this is Brenden."

"It's nice to meet you, Brenden", Aphmau greeted.

"It's nice to meet you too, Aphmau", Brendon greeted. Then, he stepped aside to reveal a red haired woman. "Oh, and this is my sister, Kiki."

"It's nice to meet you, Aphmau", the woman named Kiki greeted.

"It's nice to meet you too, Kiki", Aphmau greeted.

Then, she noticed something move from behind Kiki. Aphmau looked behind her legs…and saw a young girl with wolf years clinging onto her legs.

"Oh. Hello there", Aphmau greeted her. "My name is Aphmau. What's your name?"

When the little girl was asked this, instead of giving an answer, she hid behind Kiki.

"This is my daughter Leona", she revealed. "Please don't mind her. She's very shy."

"That's okay", Aphmau reassured. "Anyway, what were you guys talking about?"

"We were discussing what needs to been done to improve the state of the village", Garroth replied.

"For starters, we need to fix the pathways that go through the village", Aaron revealed. "We also need to build a dock so that we can set up trade routes with other villages so we can get other supplies and materials."

"I'm quite the handyman", Brenden revealed. "So I'm gonna take care of those things."

"We also need to gather up some animals so we can get materials from them as well", Aaron added.

"I'm an expert on raising and taking care of animals", Kiki revealed. "So I'll take care of that."

When I heard Brendon and Kiki talk about what they were going to do to improve the village, it made me want to help as well.

"Is there anything I can do to help", Aphmau asked enthusiastically.

"You wanna help", Aaron asked in shock.

"I do", Aphmau replied.

"Do you have any skills that can help with improving the village", Aaron asked.

"Um…", Aphmau started, trying to think of an answer. "Nothing I can think of."

"Then it's better for you to just stay out of people's way", Aaron stated, before turning around. "Now, let's get to work. This village isn't going to fix itself up."

With this, Aaron walked away from everyone else. Then…Leona suddenly spoke up.

"Th…that guy is kinda scary", she said softly.

"Yeah", Brenden asked. "What died and crawled up his as…"

"Brenden", Kiki said quickly as she kneeled down and covered her daughter's ears. "Tiny wolf ears."

"Right", Brenden said apologetically, before looking at his neice. "Sorry, sweetie."

"I know that Aaron's demeanor makes him come off as rude", Garroth started. "But I assure you that he is actually a very kind and caring person."

"You told me that you and this guy go way back, Garroth", Brenden said. "How do you even know him?"

"It's quite a long story", Garroth replied. "And I'm afraid that we don't have the time for it now. Aaron's right. This village won't fix itself up. We should get to work."

"Garroth", Aphmau started. "Is there really nothing I can do to help?"

"I am very grateful that you are eager to help, Ms Aphmau", Garroth said. "If I think of any way you can contribute, I'll be sure to let you know."

"Oh", Aphmau said, a bit disappointed. "Okay. Then, I'll see you all later."

Since there was nothing I could do to help out the village, I went back to Sylvana, and she ended up showing me how to do some housework.

Once we were done, I went back to my room, and wrote in my diary.

This was going to be the end of this entry. But just as I had finished writing, I suddenly heard someone scream!

"And…done", Aphmau said as she finished off her diary entry.

Then, just as she was done writing…she heard screaming coming from outside!

She quickly got up and rushed out of her room. When she entered the hallway, she saw Sylvana coming out of her room as well.

"Sylvana, what was that", she asked in concern.

"It's probably a monster attack", Sylvana replied. "They come out at night. And because the village doesn't have much protection, it's an easy target for them."

After being told this, Aphmau rushed downstairs and to the front door. When she opened it and looked outside, she saw hoards of monsters attacking the village!

"Aphmau", Sylvana exclaimed as she rushed up to her. "It's not safe outside! You should stay inside!"

"Mommy", a voice suddenly yelled out: A voice that Aphmau recognized.

She looked in the direction it was coming from, and saw Leona running away by a group of monsters!

"Leona", Aphmau yelled, before running to her.

Just as the monsters where about to reach Leona, Aphmau got to her and grabbed her.

"I've got you, Leona", Aphmau exclaimed.

She then tried getting away from the monsters, but as she was running, she suddenly tripped over a branch! As she fell to the ground, she wrapped her arms tightly around Leona to protect her from the fall.

After Aphmau hit the ground, she looked up, and saw the monsters hovering over her. She held Leona tightly to her chest and closed her eyes. Then, just as one of the monsters was about to reach them, it was suddenly knocked back.

After this happened, Aphmau looked up, and saw Aaron standing over her.

"Aaron", she said.

"Look after Leona", Aaron commanded. He then looked at the monsters, before charging at them!

One by one, I watched as Aaron took out the monsters. I couldn't take my eyes off him while he was doing it.

Aphmau watched in awe as Aaron took out all of the monsters. Once they had been taken care of, he turned around to face her and Leona.

"Are you two okay", he asked as he rushed up to them.

"Leona", Kiki frantically yelled as she rushed up to her daughter.

"Mommy", Leona said, before rushing into her mother's arms.

"Oh sweetie! I was so worried about you", Kiki said, before she began checking her daughter over. "Are you okay? Are you hurt anywhere?"

"No Mommy", Leona replied. "Ms Aphmau protected me! And Mr Aaron fought the bad monsters. He was super cool!"

"Oh thank goodness", Kiki said, before giving her daughter another hug. Then, she stood up and looked at Aphmau and Aaron. "Aphmau, Aaron, thank you so much for protecting my daughter!"

"Of course, Kiki", Aphmau said. "I'm just glad that she's okay."

"Thanks you Ms Aphmau and Mr Aaron", Leona thanked.

After she said this, Aaron kneeled down in front of her, and patted her head.

"No problem, kiddo", he said.

Aaron usually has this serious frown on his face. But when he was petting Leona's head, he had a warm smile instead. He…also seemed a bit sad when he looked at her.

"Aaron", Garroth exclaimed as he rushed onto the scene with Brenden in tow.

"Garroth", Aaron said as he walked up to him. "Everything's all clear here. What about the rest of the village?"

"All the other monsters in the village have been taken care of", Garroth replied.

"That's good", Aaron said. "Garroth, I think we need to add a guard tower onto the list of things we need to build."

"Right", Garroth agreed, before turning to Brenden. "Could I ask you to do that as well, Brenden?"

"You can count on me", Brenden replied. "I'll get to work on that guard tower as soon as I can!"
