Chapter 9: Brock and the Dwebble

"Human Speech"

"Pokemon Speech"

We join our heroes as they are having lunch.

Ash noticed that Snivy has been staying out of her ball recently and refusing to go in her ball. "I noticed that you've been out of your ball recently; Snivy, do you prefer that you stay out of your ball?" Ash asked Snivy, who looked down.

"I don't know Ash. I am thinking about evolving or not. But I might as a Snivy and Servine if I decide to evolve. But please respect my decision to stay out of my ball until then?" Snivy asked Ash, who petted her back as she was enjoying that.

"Certainly, Snivy. Pikachu also rather be out of his ball and has been throughout his Journey," Ash said to Snivy. Who was surprised by hearing that Pikachu rather be out of his ball than travel in one? Snivy was now interested in Pikachu's Journey and Pokemon during their Journey.

"Ash did mention that you've been through four and a half regions. I wonder how many have you caught up till this point and how many are grass-types?" Snivy asked Pikachu, finishing eating like the rest of the team was curious about this. But the rest of the Pokemon that Ash has caught in the past.

"Well, Ash has a grass starter in each region, Bulbasaur, Bayleef, Sceptile, and Torterra. As for the rest of Ash's Pokemon, he's always the type to catch a flying type for each region, whether the one known for being the most common or hard to catch," Pikachu explains to all of Ash's Pokemon.

"Snivy, you're the second grass type Ash has that knows Leaf Blade. While cool, calm, and collected, Torterra is more responsible alongside Bulbasaur,' Pikachu explains. "Ash does have a lot of Pokemon; however, the majority of them are thirty Tauros."All six of them were now amazed by hearing this.

"Does Ash have a ground type?' Sandile asked Pikachu, wondering, given that Ash did mention that any Pokemon were allowed to be trained by them.

"Two Donphan raised from a baby Phanphy and Gabite, a ground/dragon type," Ash interrupted Pikachu.

"I didn't know that Gible evolved Ash? How long after we left our separate ways that he evolved?"Brock asked Ash, who remembered that Gabite was a Gible the last time he saw it.

"Gabite evolved about a month into our return to Kanto. We were asked in a few battles, and he evolved before one of those battles," Ash said to Brock. "Let's say I was asked to do a lot during the five months since we left Shinnoh. One of them was defending my title in the battle frontier as someone beat Brandon," Ash explains to Misty and Brock. Brock was about to ask Ash who beat Brandon but was interrupted as Pokemon came out of the bushes, all bruised and battered like it was in a nasty fight. Ash scanned it as Brock ran over to it. The Pokemon was a rock/bug type called Dwebble. Surprisingly Misty wasn't freaking out by this. However, Ash noticed it didn't have the rock shown in the Pokedex on its back. Brock healed the Dwebble up.

"Hey, I can understand you with a translator. Is everything okay? I noticed you don't have the rock you usually have on your back on you?" Ash said to the Dwebble. Dwebble was now processing all this but was hurt when Ash mentioned his rock, known as his home.

"My home was taken from me by a bully of a Dwebble. That's been attacking other Dwebble's and collecting their rocks as prizes for his victor,' Dwebble said to Ash, who translated this to Brock.

"Given that you are known for being hermit crabs, your species are known to be territorialistic," Ash said to which the Dwebble nodded at what Ash had said.

"Yes, but not when it comes to the home that's been a part of our lives since birth, and getting a new one isn't as simple," Dwebble said tearfully, to which Brock wiped the tears from Dwebble's face.

"We'll help you. This is beyond bullying, that's for sure," Brock said to the Dwebble. This cheered Dwebble up.

"Will you lead us to where this Dwebble is at?" Ash asked Dwebble, who nodded and led the group to where he and his friends lived. It was a massive quarry full of rocks. Ash and the others notice a lot of Dwebble that are missing their Rocks. There was a big Dwebble who was adding another rock to his shell of a rock showing that he was the one in charge.

"That Dwebble looks like he's been a Pokemon that used to be trained by a Human. Just by the size and strength," Brock said to Ash, Misty, and Dwebble.

"No wonder he beat many of us. We are wild Dwebble and have little battle experience," Dwebble said to Ash.

"How long ago has he come here and started all this?" Ash asked Dwebble, who looked down and sighed at the thought of when he came to the area.

"About a few days ago? I don't know why he's doing this to us?" Dwebble explained to Ash, who translated for Misty and Brock.

"I'll handle it, Dwebble. As a rock-type gym leader, I can handle this easily," Brock told Ash. Brock gets up and heads to the quarry when he sees another Dwebble returning to the quarry looking to fight the big bully.

"You Dwebble are so pathetic that you call yourselves rock-types; please, I've seen better rock-types out there," the large Dwebble said to the other Dwebble, tossing them about like they were just a pebble. The large Dwebble walked over to the youngest Dwebble that he just beat to claim the Dwebble's shell as his prize.

"Knock it off," Brock said as he stood in the middle of the quarry alongside Ash, Misty, and the Dwebble, that came to ask Brock and the others for help. "You want a fight. You got a fight," Brock said, holding a Pokeball.

"Oh, what a coward is calling other humans for help. Okay, if this man wants to play hero, bring it," Dwebble said to the young Dwebble and Brock.

"Steelix comes on out," Brock sent out his first Pokemon raised from an Onix. The bully, Dwebble, was taken aback but wasn't scared. This was the other Dwebble's chance to get away because something was about to go down as the Dwebble used X-scissors to charge toward Steelix, hitting it. It used shell smash, sending pieces of the other shells off to get stronger. Brock and Steelix weren't doing anything as it was just wasting its strength, barely dealing damage to Steelix, and the Dwebble noticed that no matter how much it was attacking Steelix, it did nothing.

"Some bully, you think you are a big mon on campus, but all you are is just a scared Pokemon fighting a rock-type specialist. Steelix uses Head smash and gets rid of him," Brock commanded Steelix, which launched a super-effective head smash, sending the Dwebble flying out of there.

The other Dwebble went to get their shells back from the shell smash. Luckily, it wasn't severely damaged from all that. The Dwebble from before got its shell/home back as well. "What was that all about? I mean, he just did this and was weak when it comes to the others who even tried," Misty said to Brock.

"Something is off. I don't know what it is, but it feels like Dwebble should have more moves than that unless he were released recently. I shouldn't have won easily," Brock said.

"I noticed that too. That Dwebble had more moves when I faced him. He must be holding back," Dwebble told Ash, who translated to Brock.

"I agree with Dwebble here. Something is off with this whole situation," Ash said. Dwebble from before comes up to Brock, asking for something from him as thanks.

"What is it, Dwebble?" Brock asked Dwebble, now curious about what he wanted.

"Can I join you? I want to get stronger, and I don't want what happened earlier to get the best of me, and you seem like a good trainer," Dwebble asked Brock, to which Ash translated to him.

"Certainly, you can join the team while Steelix is a steel-type. He was once a rock type, so I am happy to let you join the team," Brock said to Dwebble while bringing out a Pokeball. "Welcome to the team Dwebble," Brock said to Dwebble, who nodded and smiled as Brock tossed the Pokeball at the Dwebble.

The Pokeball sucked the Dwebble in, and it was caught without hassle. Ash and the others left the quarry and the area, saying goodbye to the Dwebble.

With a new capture to Brock's team, the question on everyone's mind is what is going on with that other Dwebble. The Journey continues.

Meanwhile, somewhere in the forest where the bully Dwebble landed:

"Stupid Dwebble, why did he have to get those humans involved? I was planning on returning those rocks after I made some adjustments," Dwebble said to himself. He noticed that a Buizel was watching him.

'You failed your mission. You got cocky, Dwebble," Buizel said to the Dwebble, walking to him while crossing his arms.

"Commander Buizel, please give me another chance. Those twerps messed with what could've been an," the Dwebble said to the water Weezle Pokemon who interrupted him.

"An easy job, yet you were holding back and easily defeated. Return to base. The bosses will punish you for your failure," Buizel said as the Dwebble was shocked and had no choice but to return with Buizel.

Stay tuned

Yes, this chapter is concise, and I showed Buizel early, but he plays a role in this story for those who have yet to read it later. We'll get there. The Trubbish episode is next, along with a brand-new capture for Ash. See you next time.
