Sweet and Dark Heart: Chapter 5
After that, the others shared their poems, with Sayori's being bubbly and adorable, Yuri's being mysterious and cryptic while Monika's poem is one that's hopeful and about connecting with one another. Monika figured asking everyone about their insights on everyone's poem would be a good idea so that the club can see how different writing styles can flow.
"So John, tell me your thoughts on each of our poems! I gotta ask you first since it's the first time you've written a poem, so, sorry for putting you on the spot!" Monika said as she gave a playful smirk.
'Oh Monika, how I wish you didn't decide to pick me first…' John thought to himself.
John glanced around the room, Yuri had a shy smile while Monika and Sayori had warm smiles and Natsuki was intently watching John to see what he had to say.
'John said my poem was deep earlier…and that I'm cool…I'd love to know in detail as to what he thinks of my writing. I have to know…I have to know…' Natsuki thought to herself as she tried her best to calm herself down and act nonchalant.
"Hmm…well, Sayori's poem is like she wrote it this morning…Yuri's poem was a bit creepy with how it talks about the last remaining lightpole in the city…yours was pretty energetic and hopeful. As for Natsuki's poem, it was really deep and I liked her poem quite a lot in all honesty." John said bashfully while Natsuki's eyes widened a bit.
'Don't freak out…stay calm…stay calm…he likes my poem…he really, really likes it!' Natsuki thought to herself as her breath hitched.
"Hah, makes sense that John would see it that way; after all, my poems are the best in this school anyhow!" Natsuki said proudly as Sayori giggled.
"Ehehe~ Your poems are cute and lovely just like you, Natsuki! But I think my poem about breakfast was pretty great too!" Sayori said as Natsuki's eyes widened and she pouted, crossing her arms.
"Hmph, I am NOT cute!" Natsuki grumbled as the others chuckled.
"Okay fine, if you insist, but at the very least, your poems are!" Sayori said.
Afterwards, the group discussed each other's poems a bit more, the Literature Club meeting wrapped up for the day. Yuri and Monika left, with Sayori waiting by the door for John. As John was about to leave, Natsuki held his arm, her pink eyes glinting with a combination of hesitancy and something else that John couldn't decipher.
"Hey John…so that poem you wrote, it was really great…do you mind if I maybe could…hear you read it again?" Natsuki asked, waiting with bated breath as she looked down at him.
"Huh? You want me to read it again? You liked it that much?" John asked as he took the poem out of his backpack.
"Well…actually…even though your poem wasn't as great as mine…I wanted to take it home…with me…" Natsuki said with a faint blush dusting her cheeks.
Now this was something that had surprised John, here was a somewhat intimidating giant of a woman…asking him for his poem because she enjoyed it that much.
"H-huh?! You…want to take my poem home? I…didn't realize you liked it to that extent…s-sure!" John said as he happily handed it over to Natsuki, her larger hand grazing his smaller hand.
Natsuki felt a shiver run up her body upon contact and did her best to stay as nonchalant as possible when she put John's poem into her bag.
"Thank you…I always hold onto important things so they can never leave my grasp!" Natsuki said.
'…Just like how I'd make sure that you never leave my grasp once I get a hold of you…' Natsuki thought to herself as she looked down at John, giving him a small smile.
"Oh? Thank you Natsuki, that really means a lot to me…" John said with a warm grin.
"Yeah, yeah, don't get all mushy on me now…" Natsuki said as her tsundere mask slipped back on into place.
"Hahah, sorry, sorry…well, I'll see you tomorrow Natsuki!" John said as he waved and headed over to Sayori.
John and Sayori began to walk away, with Natsuki in the Literature Club room, hearing their conversation.
"Took you long enough, goofball! What was that about?" Sayori asked as she and John walked down the hallway.
"Natsuki wanted to keep my poem, she looked pretty happy I handed it to her!" John said.
"Awww, that's so sweet! I told you she's a giantess with a heart of gold!" Sayori said.
Once Sayori and John were out of earshot and she could no longer hear their footsteps or conversation, Natsuki took out John's poem from her bag and gave a long inhale before putting it back into her bag, letting out a content sigh.
"Haah…what a great poem that John wrote…now it's all mine. Time to go home and frame this…" Natsuki said as she exited the Literature Club room.
A bit later, Sayori and John reached their homes, the time passing by quickly as they chatted about everything and anything. Sayori reaching her house, decided to tease John one more time about Natsuki's interest in his poem.
"So John, with Natsuki being that into your poem, it seems like you're going to have a girlfriend soon!" Sayori teased as John groaned.
"Ugh, shut up Sayori! Natsuki isn't my girlfriend, I barely know her! We do have some interests though, so it'd be cool to hang out sometime…" John said as Sayori giggled.
"Well, we do have the School Club festival coming up soon…it'll be…next week Friday! You always skipped out on it every year to watch anime or get the latest manga…so will you participate this year?" Sayori asked as she looked up at John with puppy dog eyes.
"When you look at me like that, I can't really say no…besides it'll be nice to help out." John said as Sayori smiled.
"That's the spirit! Most likely Monika will have us split up the work to be done, you know, snacks, decorative stuff and things like that to bring people in!" Sayori said.
"Hmmm…that does sound fun, I can't believe I'm actually excited for this…" John said.
"That's a good thing! I'll see you tomorrow then!" Sayori said as she hugged John goodbye and headed into her house.
