Sweet and Dark Heart: Chapter 8

Natsuki bit her index finger in order to suppress the urge to hold John close, after all, she doesn't want to seem clingy or obsessive on the outside.

'Gah, he's so cute…too cute like this! I wanna hold him close…just…just put him on my lap and just snuggle him forever!' Natsuki thought to herself.

About five minutes passed with Natsuki battling on how badly she wanted to just hold John and a bit later, John stirs awake.

"Mmm? Oh…! Natsuki, I'm really sorry, I didn't mean to fall asleep on your shoulder like that…" John says with a faint blush on his face.

"Hmph, I'll forgive you this time, just don't let it happen too often!" Natsuki said with a small smile as she looked down at John, who had sat upright like he was doing prior to falling asleep.

'I might say that…but no…I wouldn't mind if it happened all the time. John sleeping on my shoulder was nice, even though it was only for a few minutes…' Natsuki thought as the two went back to reading the manga.

Some time later, Monika lets the other girls know that the club meeting is over for today. John sighed a bit, as he was admittedly enjoying the manga a lot. Natsuki masked her annoyance as she wanted to spend more time sitting down with John. The two stood up and Natsuki saw the disappointment in his face.

"I hate to say it, but it was fun…let me know the next time you're interested…" Natsuki said, her voice soft.

"I'd like that…" John said with a soft smile.

The two headed back to the main part of the Literature Club room, with Natsuki being behind John as she walks to her desk.

'Heh, even though he's a good height, with him being 6' tall it means the top of his head can fit underneath my chin.' Natsuki thought to herself as she sat down on the chair; which creaked under her weight as usual.

After some more chatting and bantering, the Literature Club meeting was all done. Yuri and Monika said their usual goodbyes and left the room. Natsuki gave a wave before leaving which left John and Sayori to walk home together. As John and Sayori walked out of the Literature Club and exited the school, Natsuki glared at them in the hallway as they walked their own way; Sayori's arm over John's shoulder as the two chatted.

'Tch, who does that midget thinks she is, walking with John like that? Ugh, I can't believe I'm envying a tiny thing like Sayori. The way she's throwing her shoulder around John is infuriating…but no matter…John belongs to me anyways. For now she can be all carefree and giddy…' Natsuki thinks to herself as she walks the other way to her home.

Meanwhile, John and Sayori kept walking to their houses and after a lot of bantering, Sayori decided to tease John about today.

"Sooo…what did you and our resident baker do today, hmmm? Some kissing? Hand holding? Hugging?" Sayori teased as John blushed madly.

"S-Sayori! Nothing like that, I barely know her even though she's cool! We just read a slice-of-life manga today called Parfait Girls! I…may have fallen asleep on her shoulder after some time…" John said sheepishly as Sayori looked wide-eyed before giggling.

"Ooooh, how cute! You slept on Natsuki's shoulder huh? Honestly that's super cute and sweet!" Sayori said as John groaned.

"More like embarrassing! I was enjoying the manga as Natsuki read it aloud but I didn't intend to fall asleep! Gah, she told me not to let it happen too often! I want our friendship to be good, you know?" John asked as Sayori's expression softened.

"Aw John, I understand you want Natsuki to like you…I think she does! I mean, she takes a while to warm up to people, so give it some time, okay?" Sayori said with her usual cheerful smile as John sighed.

"Yeah…yeah, I get it, I know it'll take some time, it's just…you know I want to know her…I'm shy around her…but I'll try, since we both enjoy anime and manga so we can chat about series we like. I mean, I did enjoy when we read Parfait Girls today!" John said as Sayori giggled.

"See, there you go! You'll get to know her and you'll see how sweet she is!" Sayori said.

After some more teasing, joking and bantering, the two reached their respective houses and said goodbye. John entered his house and as usual, decided to enjoy some manga after changing off into some casual clothes, before heading to bed a bit early since tomorrow was Friday and he'd likely be busier in his classes – and possibly the Literature club too.

- In Natsuki's House –

Natsuki was in her bedroom, admiring John's poem that's framed on her wall, after her dad had trashed her room the night prior, when she had put him in his place.

"Tch, what an idiot. I let him make me fearful of him all this time. No more. I'm in control of this house now, not him." Natsuki said as she kissed John's poem.

'Can't believe him, trashing my room like that. What a weakling he is, a pitiful man for a husband before mom left him, and a horrendous father. Good thing I have things to look forward to like John, my baking, manga, anime and video games.' Natsuki thought to herself as she heard her father come home, which made her groan in annoyance.
