Greetings, Mgunnels3 here, and welcome back to Ash's Unova Journey My Version. We are at the PWT arc now, and I have a lot planned for this arc battles-wise and all that. As for what is coming, you'll see. That said, let's get this chapter started, shall we?
Chapter 80: The Pokemon World Tournament
"Human Speech"
"Pokemon Speech"
Today is the day of the PWT. Our heroes are in line, ready to register for the tournament. They know many people will participate and are curious about who they will compete against.
"Man, look at the crowd. We know that most of the trainers from the Grand Festival would be participating in this tournament, but who knows who else will be taking part in this tournament," Ash said to the gang, who nodded.
Latias was human, exactly like her friend Bianca from Alto Mare, then Ash's Rival Bianca as Dragonite was beside her to watch the matches to see who was worthy of their time for being used in Ash's matches as the group heard someone call out to Ash it was Ritchie. "Hey, Ash, you here as well. Fancy seeing you guys here?" Ritchie called out to Ash along with his Pikachu partner Sparky Ash was surprised to see him there.
"Hey, Ritchie, what's it been since the Whirl Islands?" Ash said to Ritchie, who nodded as Sparkie and Pikachu shook their paws to show they still valued their friendship/rivalry.
"Yeah, it has. I've been doing more research over the years and just gotten back into doing leagues a few years ago; I heard about this tournament and decided to take part in it wasn't expecting to see you guys out here?" Ritchie said to Ash, who nodded.
"Hopefully, we will have a rematch since the Indigou league after what happened before our match," Ash said to Ritchie, who nodded as he went back into line to register. Ash sighed. "Ritchie wasn't expecting to see him taking part in this. Why do I feel he isn't the only one participating?" Ash said as he saw Paul walking by. "Speaking of, hey Paul!"
Paul noticed Ash and the group and smirked, and walked over to the group. "Well, it's been a while since Ash almost didn't recognize you since the Sinnoh League; taken that you are here in Unova to participate in the league, not just the PWT?" Paul said to Ash, who nodded. "You haven't changed even after almost two years since the Sinnoh league."
"Seem's like I'm not the only one, given what Cynthia told us about you, Paul," Ash said, humphed, and shrugged. "I'm hoping to get another chance to face you in battle again during this tournament," Ash said as Paul nodded.
"I'm here because you are my last challenge before I become a gym leader and retire my trainer's license. I hope that you and everyone else in the tournament will not disappoint. I have registered and look forward to seeing how much you and your friends have grown. Regie is also participating in the tournament. Take care, Ash." Paul said as he walked off into the stadium. Ash sighed as this was still the same Paul he knew.
"Seem's like Paul isn't the only one here in hopes to face you one last time before facing his dream, Ashy-boy," a voice called out to Ash. It was Gary, who was walking towards Ash, who was surprised by this. "Been a while, Ash," Gary said to Ash, who nodded.
"Been a while indeed, Gary. I thought you gave up being a trainer to become a professor one day?" Ash asked Gary, who nodded.
"Once this tournament is finished, I'll replace Professor Rowen, who is retiring soon. However, I will continue my role as a trainer until further notice. I am participating in the tournament as a guest per Rowen's invitation, Ash." Gary explained to Ash, who was taken aback by this but nodded.
"Wow, I wasn't expecting Rowen to retire soon. He doesn't even look the part of retiring; maybe your grandfather, but Rowen," Ash said to Gary, who shrugged.
"Rowen is actually older than my grandpa, and I rather not hold you all from registering, so I'll be seeing you in the tournament, Ash I hope to either face you or at least beat you before I take over, so see you all later," Gary said as he walked in as the group sighed.
Latias and Dragonite were watching this, and from the looks of the three trainers that Ash and the others ran into, it seems like Gary and Paul are of their interest. "Dragonite, those two seem to be perfect for battles. Paul, who was Ash's rival before coming here, tested Ash's team and was Infernape's former trainer," Latias said to Dragonite, who nodded.
"I must admit, Latias, both seem worth our attention. Even the boy Ash spoke to, who resembles Ash, is worth considering because he defeated Ash during Ash's first league, as others have informed me," Dragonite said to Latias, who waved her hand as she wasn't interested in Ritchie. "Latias, we can't expect everyone to be like the two we saw. Are you particularly selective?"
"You know me well, Dragonite, and if it were my brother, he would've been picky about them as well, but I will agree there aren't many so far that is worth calling weak or not my time, but there is one that I am hoping to see taking part in this tournament," Latias said to Dragonite who was curious and sighed as the group got registered as Latias explains she was more there for moral support. Dragonite was Ash's scoping out of the competition, which was allowed, but outside the trainer's area of the tournament.
Ash and his companions were eagerly awaiting the start of the tournament. He spotted familiar faces like Katie among the participants, making him excited for what was to come. To his surprise, all his rivals from Unova - Trip, Bianca, Cameron, Stephan, Georgia, and Virgil - were also present, adding to the anticipation.
"No way you're here too, Ash," Ash heard a voice say to Ash as it was Morrison as he walked over to the group along with Tyson.
"Ah, Tyson and Morrison, good to see you again. I guess that Katie wasn't the only one I saw from the Hoenn league participating in the tournament," Ash said to the two as Ash noticed that Tyson's Meowth was still wearing his outfit. "I guess his wounds aren't still healed, huh?" Ash said to Tyson, who shook his head as did Meowth's.
"His wounds have healed but given that he has gotten used to this outfit, he kinda agreed to stay in this outfit for a while, Ash," Tyson said to Ash, who nodded. "Don't think that this means that we aren't going to go easy on you just cause I won last time; we still want to face you again," Tyson said to Ash.
"Same with me, Ash, and maybe we can have eating competitions as well," Morrison said to Ash, who chuckled.
"I know a guy who can take you up on that offer, Morrison, and he's taking part in the tournament as well," Ash said to Morrison and pointed to Stephan in the crowd as Morrison nodded.
Ash also noticed Conway, Barry, and Harrison were in the crowd, and AJ and May's Rivals: Drew, Harley, and Solidad, were among the group, even Dawn's Rivals: Ursula, Zoey, and Nando. Ash didn't see Clemont, Skyla, or Drayden at the moment and knew they would show up sooner or later, given that they were invited to participate in this tournament.
"Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, one and all, to this year's annual Pokemon World Tournament. Over 6000 trainers are here to participate in this tournament, more than double last year, and this should be a memorable one," the announcer said to the group of trainers and the audience as Latias and Dragonite were at the back of the stands at the top watching this. "Now for the rules, the first round matches will be 3v3 battles until we reach the top 500. Then it will be 5v5 rules, and once we reach the top 128, it will be a full 6v6 battle, and both sides are allowed to make substitutions," the announcer said as the group was pumped to participate in this tournament.
"Given that there are trainers from all over the world here, all Pokemon from the six regions are allowed in this tournament no matter what the Pokemon is, and remember to have fun. Now we like to turn your attention to our special guests here today, who will also be participating in this tournament," the announcer said to everyone as they drew their attention to the screen.
"First is our guest of honor while both are a part of the exhibition battle that will happen in an hour, and the other opponent will be a part of the tournament shortly after," the announcer said as the screen showed two trainers. "First is our main guest of honor and is part of the exhibition battle is the Sinnoh league champion and the mistress of Sinnoh, Cynthia," the crowd was amazed other than Ash and the others who knew that she was taking part in the exhibition battle, not the tournament.
"Her opponent, on the other hand, will be taking part in this tournament; she's a former member of the Sinnoh Battle Frontier and currently a member of the Unova Elite Four Caitlin," the announcer said as everyone was surprised, even Ash and his friends Cynthia never mentioned this as the board was cleared and more images were shown.
"Now we have multiple special guests from all six regions participating in this tournament, so let's give it up for them. First, from the Kanto region, a member of the Elite Four and former gym leader of the Fusia City gym gave it up for Koga," the announcer said. As Koga showed up on the screen, everyone was surprised.
"Another trainer from the Kanto region, the red hot riddle master and now leader of the Cinnabar Island gym now located on Seaform Island, the red hot gym leader gives it up for Blaine," as Blaine was shown on the screen.
"Man, I guess that the Unova Gym leaders won't be the only ones who will be taking part in this tournament," Ash said to Misty and Brock, who nodded as Misty knew that she and Brock made four Kanto gym leaders and Misty knew that this was just the beginning.
"Next from the Orange Islands, we have two more trainers. First, a young man known for being both a casanova and one of the most challenging members of the Orange Crew from Trovita Island gives it up for Rudy," Rudy was shown on the screen.
Misty was surprised to see him here and knew he had a crush on her, but she knew he would let it go after his loss against Ash.
"Lastly, from the Orange Crew, he's the final challenge of the Orange crew and the one known to be unbeatable to most of his challengers, the Pumallo Island Gym leader Drake," the announcer said as Drake was shown on the screen as Ash knew that last part about Drake was true as he struggled against him and barely won against him all those years ago.
"Now from the Johto Region, he was once the champion of the region before he retired to become a gym leader, one of the strongest gym leaders of the Johto region, and ranked 2 of the Elite 6 gym leaders. The Mahogany Town gym leader Pryce," the announcer said as Pryce was shown on screen, showing that he is nearing retirement in terms of appearance and age-wise.
Ash noticed that Georgia was watching and knew he would attend the tournament but worried more about her grandfather.
"Now for the last trainer for the Johto region. She is known to be pretty prideful when it comes to Dragon types and her job and is the cousin of the Johto Region's champion and one of the students of the leader of the Opulicid City gym. From Blackthorn City, give it up for Clair," the announcer said as Clair was shown on screen.
She looked like she had gotten stronger since the last time Ash had seen her, and Ash knew that she would make things harder for the trainers in the tournament. Ash realized what was happening as gym leaders now participated in this tournament.
"Now from the Hoenn region, he is known to be one of the strongest gym leaders of the region and has a massive fanbase around him, not to mention a father of two contestants taking part in this tournament. From Pettleburg city gym, the master of the Normal types give it up for Norman," the announcer said as Norman was shown on screen.
May and Max smiled as they knew their dad was participating in the tournament, which Ash noticed. "So you guys knew that your dad was going to be here, huh, you two?" Ash asked May and Max, who nodded.
"Sorry, Ash, we found out the day before the tournament hence why we were out yesterday, but yeah, given his popularity, our dad couldn't say no, though not like he wanted to anyway," May said to Ash, who nodded as the announcer continued.
"Now for the last member of the Hoenn region rank 3 of the elite 6, a contest grandmaster as well as the former champion of the Hoenn region. He's here to dazzle the battlefield with power and style, the Sootopolis city gym leader Wallace," Wallace's portrait was shown as Misty glared, which Ash noticed.
"You okay, Misty?" Ash asked her, who nodded.
"Yeah, what they didn't tell you is that I was originally ranked 3rd, and he was ranked 4th, but I lost to him before I came here to Unova," Misty said to Ash, who was taken aback by this as he thought that losing battles wouldn't affect rank as Misty noticed. "Battling trainers doesn't affect rank, Ash. It's battling against the members, and he so happens to visit the gym before, and well enough said."
"We can talk later about it once the tournament starts and the day is over," Ash said to Misty, who nodded as she knew that she might be facing the group members in the tournament as the screen changed.
"Now, for the Sinnoh region, we have five special guests here, six if you include the exhibition match that will happen, and if you haven't noticed, most are gym leaders. But the first guest isn't a gym leader, but rumor has it he will be one day soon. He is a special guest invited by his region's champion and placed 8th in the Sinnoh League Paul," the screen showed Paul as Ash smirked seeing him on the screen.
"Next from Snowpoint City, she is not only a teacher of the local school but also ranked 5th of the Elite 6. She is a force to be reckoned with and said to be the mistress of the ice types, Candice," the announcer said as Candince's portrait was shown.
"Alongside Candice, he's also ranked high among the gym leaders and the strongest gym leader of the Sinnoh league from Sunnyshores City give it up for Volkner," as Volkner's portrait was shown as Ash was surprised that given how strong he was that he wasn't a member of the group that Misty was in.
"Now for our second special guest, who isn't a gym leader. He showed how powerful he was in the Sinnoh league has made his way through the Battle Frontier and won and is now here as a guest to take part in the tournament before facing Sinnoh's elite four, the winner of the Sinnoh league and a man of mystery Tobias," as his portrait was shown as many were murmuring as they have heard of him and wonder why he was here as Ash and his friends knew why Latias glared at him as Dragonite noticed.
"Wow, Latias, I've never seen you that focused on a certain trainer. Is he the one you had your eye on when it comes to a good battle?" Dragonite asked Latias, who nodded.
"You remember Ash's team mentioning a trainer who won the league with only one Pokemon, that's him, and he has a Latios of his own," Latias said to Dragonite, who was taken aback by this. "He faced Ash twice, and the second time, Ash barely managed to squeeze out a tie, let's just say I know his Latios, and I have my sights on Tobias in the tournament," Latias said, clenching her fist, almost dropping her illusion.
"Latias, I don't know what happened during your time with your family in Hoenn, but you are turning more into your brother than the Latias I know and scaring me," Dragonite said with a sweet drop as Latias sighed and calmed down and nodded.
"There is one more trainer, but we'll get to him later," the announcer said to the crowd. Ash was curious about what was happening and why one was being held quiet. "Now, for our region, two gym leaders were selected to participate in this tournament. First, a stubborn gym leader who is said to try to predict her battles lately and is the granddaughter of the original gym leader from Mistralliton City, Skyla," the announcer said as Skyla's portrait was shown on the screen.
"Lastly, for the Unova Region, he is ranked not only the strongest gym leader of the region but ranked 1 in the Elite 6, the master of the Dragon types and Mayor of the city that his gym is in from Opulucid city Drayden," the announcer said as Drayden was shown as the crowd was cheering loudly as Misty was nervous but knew that he was here anyway.
Latias and Dragonite looked at him and had heard about Drayden. "So that's the guy who owns Druddigon's father and Garchomp's brother. I didn't expect to see him here in the tournament?" Dragonite said to Latias, who nodded in agreement as the two knew he was someone they would be fine facing off against.
"Now for the newest guest from the region of Kalos. First, she is the granddaughter of her gyms original gym leader as well as a student who is trying to master a new mechanic that is only at the moment known for in Kalos with her trusty Lucario giving it up for Korrina," the announcer said as the portrait shown Korrina as Ash had met her Lucario a week ago and was curious about what the announcer meant by a new battle Mechanic.
"Lastly, for the gym leaders, he just became a gym leader a year ago and had the honor of being the newest member of the elite six as the last rank, the son of the original gym leader and the specialist of electric types give it up for Clemont," the announcer said as Clemont's portrait was shown.
"Now we have three last guests before we start this tournament, and they are the same group, just from two different regions, and were mentioned before," the announcer said. Everyone was curious, even Ash.
"First, she's known for understanding Pokemon through their feelings, and the master of the Psychic types known as the Salon Maiden and leader of the battle Tower in Kanto gave it up for Anebel," her portrait was shown as Ash was taken aback as Scott never mentioned that members of the Battle Frontier were here just from that introduction alone.
Latias looked like Anebel looked familiar for some reason though she had heard of her, and Dragonite noticed but let her be.
"Now the leader of the Kanto Battle Frontier, he is the strongest member, not to mention the master of the archeological, the Pyrimad king himself, Brandon," Brandon's portrait was shown on the screen as Ash and Paul, who were watching this in the stands knew things were not only personal for Paul but interesting for the competition as well.
"Lastly, heading back to Sinnoh, he's the Tower tycoon as well as the strongest member of Sinnoh's Battle Frontier from Twinleaf town Palmer," the announcer said as Palmer's portrait was shown as Ash was hoping to face him again one day. Now, Ash might get that chance.
"We mentioned earlier that we had another member of the Battle Frontier, that being Caitlin, so our guests are done, and in an hour, we will have our exhibition battle between her and the queen of Sinnoh, Cynthia. Till then, take some time to relax and enjoy the show," the announcer said as the crowd on the battlefield dissipated.
Ash, Misty Brock, May, Max, and Dawn were now excited to participate in this tournament and couldn't wait for the exhibition match to start.
With the gathering of the PWT contestants now over and everything set for the exhibition battle, PWT will be even more remarkable for everyone. What is in store for our heroes as the PWT is about to begin?
Stay Tuned.
Done and done. I still have more to come regarding the tournament, as I have been planning everything since the story's beginning. Before I get this in the reviews, I won't be doing every battle against random trainers, only the first round, and then after that, mostly the major battles against rivals and gym leaders and more. That said, it's the exhibition match next. It will be longer than what was shown in the anime. See you next time.
